Thankful I got to try this place before we went home! We initially tried to come here for brunch on a Sunday morning but the wait was too long. Decided to come in on a random Tuesday right before our flight and we were able to be seated right away. The prices were all reasonable and the portions were large. They served great quality breakfast classics and also some delicious BBQ chicken! The chicken was tender, flavorful and delicious. It was clearly marinated well. The service was also excellent. 4.5 rounded up. We had the oxtail soup and a poke bowl with half poke and half adobo. I thought the soup was really tasty but it started getting too salty for me. The poke bowl was also good but nothing great. The star for me was the ube pancake. Wow! I love ube but a lot of ube things just don't have a strong enough ube flavor for me. This one hit the spot! First timer here and went with my coworkers. I heard not so good reviews of the other locations so I mentioned we went to the first establishment and that is how we got here. It's a bit cozy which makes for better customer service. Our server was very attentive. The food was great. I heard of this place thru a friend and decided to give it a try today. It's definitely worth our time! Don't let the look of the place from outside stop you from trying them. We were greeted with a friendly staff with a friendly smile as soon as we entered. Her name is Mary. There were at least 7 - 8 tables for a seating between 2 - 6 people. I had their Adobo Fried Rice Omelette with Longanisa. I was surprised at first when I got my longanisa because it was flat. Mary explained that it was so the sweet sausage can be cooked better. The adobo is salty and sour, perfectly balanced with flavors. The longanisa is definitely cooked well with a little side crisp. I love the combination! My friend got his h homemade fresh corned beef hash with 2 eggs, white rice and a side of the buttermilk pancakes. The pancakes were fluffy. I honestly preferred the canned corned beef but this corned beef hash was seasoned and cooked well. I like it! He enjoyed it as well! Our overall experience was pretty amazing! Finally had a chance to dine in at Guieb it's been awhile since i came here last. We put our names on the wait list and waited about 15 min to be sat. Although this is in Kalihi I think Yelp is so popular in HI a lot of the people dining in were from the mainland. Im happy they were able to try some local fare. The employees are friendly and efficient in seating customers as quickly as they could. Although I wanted Brunch as soon as I saw prime rib on the menu I just had to have it! And it was delicious and tender and perfectly seasoned absolutely hit the spot. The other dish we ordered was the Loco Moco that was huge and also good but I was a little disappointed on the flavor I'm not 100% sure the patties are home made here but nevertheless the dish was good. I took my friends here for a late breakfast because they have never been. I was telling them how good the food is. We got there around 10:45 and put ourselves on a waitlist and were seated at 11. I had the Ube Mascarpone pancakes before and it was so good so I ordered that for the table. I wanted something light so I ordered the Seared furikake ahi salad and my friends ordered the fitness omelette and eggs Benedict. The ahi salad was so big and full of different flavors. There was wakame, Taegu, cucumbers, crab salad and even strawberries in the salad. The only thing I noticed is that the ahi tasted like previous frozen fish. My friends enjoyed their meals and everyone loved the ube pancakes. The servers here are so attentive and welcoming. Im surprised because for the food youre getting here its like so affordable for really good quality and beautifully presented food. First of all the presentation, is so so beautiful with the flowers. The loco moco had a large hamburger patty with two eggs on top. There was a generous amount of gravy that soaked the fried rice and it was so so good! The ube pancakes came with a stack of 3 pancakes and not as much ube topping as YogurStory but I felt this one was better. We absolutely LOVED our food here! The ube pancakes with mascarpone changed my life. I will never accept regular pancakes again. They're somehow dense but fluffy at the same time, perfect vanilla flavor and the ube is outstanding. Deciding is harder than pronouncing the name... Guieb Cafe has been on my radar though it's a place you need to enjoy with friends and luckily I had two on this day as Nadine who took great care of me while I had my car serviced and was surprised to see Cece who joined us along for the ride was the best surprise! This cozy spot on North King Street in Kalihi is slightly hidden the prominent building is diners by Upscale and this popular spot is very small so getting a spot which we were so lucky to do so without any wait. Deciding was the real struggle especially since you can order anything on the menu I just don't know how they do it. Since I couldn't find any pics on Yelp I got the Matcha Pancakes...yes that's the real reason lol! Service is very fast and friendly and as my pancakes came out very vibrant and green what I thought was a sauce seem to be a wad of butter slightly sweet but yummy making it almost a dessert along with the fresh fruit garnish and dusted with powdered sugar this stack of three pancakes was quite stunning if I'm able to say so. Though I definitely can't say it's Matcha it was a very yummy pancakes and enjoying it with friends was a very fun and fabulous breakfast spot. I had been wanting to try this place for so long. I love longanisa when it's sweet but unfortunately this one was way too fatty. I also love garlic rice but when I got it, it was so hard it was crunchy. I asked them if it was supposed to be like that and they said no, and thankfully replaced it. The ube pancakes were not what I expected. It may have been a bit overhyped. I felt like it was dry. Neither my boyfriend and I could finish it which was disappointing. Did Guieb for takeout for lunch today and it was extremely crowded for a wednesday with the line to dine in wrapping out the door. We selected a 12:15 pickup but didn't receive our order until around 12:40 which we understood because of the crowd and our large order. I got the adobo fried rice omelette with longanisa which was amazing, the fried rice was very flavorful and the portion was generous and was enough for 2 meals. We also shared the ube pancakes, and maybe it was because we did our order as takeout but the ube sauce was more of a liquid than the mascarpone that we saw in the pictures. I came here with some colleague for lunch. They were busy so I grabbed a table while waiting for them to arrive. Their service was wonderful and although I probably waited 10-15 minutes for them to arrive, I didn't feel pressured at all. For brunch, selecting from a sweet or savory entree is always a dilemma. I think this may be my newest fave for brunch. Our food was served fast and great customer service from the moment we walked in. The Prime Rib Loco Moco was super bomb, thick sliced and generous portion. I'm a sucker for dark brown gravy and it was delish. I'm writing this review because the food was not great. I don't even really write reviews, but i felt compelled to write this one because the food was surprisingly bad. We had gotten the corned beef hash with soft scrambled eggs w/ cheese with a fried rice upgrade and the original French toast. The French toast was normal. Idk what to say, it wasn't amazing, it just is regular degular french toast. It was reminiscent of a public school cafeteria French toast, if you guys know what i mean. The corned beef hash was stringy. I looked at their past pictures and it seems like they had changed the recipe from patties to beef strings. It's not good, the texture is exactly how it looks in my picture. The flavor? Also not good. Bring back the patties The eggs had a nice texture but was bland. No problem, just add some shoyu, whatever. I ended up only eating the eggs on this whole plate. The fried rice... tasted kinda sweet? Idk, i was confused. I think it may have been from the kamaboko, it was strange to me. Also, it had an overwhelming oil flavor. Perhaps sesame oil? Just didn't taste like regular fried rice and i didn't love it. I had the Fried Chicken the last time and it was super crispy and delicious! Next day my Boss and I had breakfast here. We both got the Homemade style Corned Beef and it was just like how my parents used to make em! I also had the thick cut bacon and was as thick as some spam slices! Very filling and cooked right. Can't believe this was the first time I heard of this place! Small hole in the wall breakfast/ brunch/ lunch type or restaurant. They close at 3pm. They have 4 locations-3 in Honolulu and 1 in Vegas. Our server Ashley was friendly and very informative. She educated us on their 3 locations. And told us about the differences between the 3 locations in Honolulu and the 1 in Vegas. We ordered the crab salad, prime rib loco moco, the mauka and makai loco moco, the adobo fried rice omelette with lechon, classic egg benedict, ube marscapone pancakes, and the ube haipia french toast. The food didn't disappoint. Although we were hesitant to order the prime rib loco moco because they ran out of the rare cuts and only had the medium well pieces left, we ordered it anyways and it was my favorite. The prime rib was very tender and rich in flavors. Prime rib was amazing as a loco moco. My second favorite was the adobo fried rice omelette with lechon. The lechon was so tender and crispy and when you dip it into the vinegar sauce...umm it was so good! The adobo fried rice inside the omelette was bomb. Also I'm not really a French toast person, I was pleasantly surprised by the ube and haupia French toast. Crispy edges with soft gooey center and dipped in the ube and haupia sauces, omg so good! The mauka and makai loco moco has a crab cake stacked on top of the hamburger patty was good but I felt the gravy masked the flavor of the crab cake. It did however add a nice texture to the loco moco. I did have higher hopes for the ube marscapone pancakes. It was pretty but it was just ok. The ube marscapone was what took the pancakes to the next level tho. The pancakes were a bit dense and I like them fluffier. Also the crab salad which was made of imitation crab was just ok. (It was my friend wanted to try it not me haha.) They have a huge menu with lots of variety and so much to offer. Generous portions with comparable prices. Great service! I will be back to try their oxtail soup and other items! They take rezzis for parties 6 or more and they have happy hour 15% off from 12:30-2:30.
