After picking my friend up from the airport, she wanted to eat. She said she heard about this place called "Guacado Mexican Grill" I figured it was different than I'm use to, so why not. There's paid parking outside but if you don't like street parking you can park across the street.....for a price as well. The outside of the restaurant represents the cultural and makes it feel different, in a good way, very creative. Inside was clean and organized. I loved the large floor tiles and the counter where you order. The staff were super friendly. They laughed and joke with us while we were ordering. It makes you feel comfortable. After a short wait, our food came out. Let me start by saying, yes you must go, and of course my favorite were the sweet plantains. They added cinnamon on them. It completely worked for the flavor. Everything else was good, but I found my new love. This place is special. Good food, good atmosphere, and great staff. What else could you ask for? Well...maybe free parking, but who's asking?

So hubby wanted to try this relatively new place for dinner and we did! At first I was skeptical bc it looks like a take out spot vs a restaurant. Smaller place than chipotle. It was empty albeit one person eating inside. However price is reasonable and portions they gave were HUGE! Hubby got the burrito and I got the quesadillas. He got the works with chicken while I opted for the beef. Like I said both were definitely a good portion. Thought there would be enough for leftovers but it was so tasty and fresh we finished it all! I actually was very happy with my quesadillas and tried a bite or two of hubbys burrito but his was so big I couldn't eat the perfect bite which I like since it was different things depending on where you bite into. It was good. Definitely going to return.

By Ditmars standards, the place feels large and spacious. Their renovation from a few years ago is really paying off, Waiting is a part of the experience, as folks will eventually pick items from the display and cooked to their liking. It's hard to go wrong with anything on the display which for me include stheir chunky octopus tentacles, their succulent butterfly shrimp, grilled fish, and tasty grilled scallops. For a good time, combine it with babaganoush, lemon potatoes, beet salad, and wash it down with a mint lemonade. Service isn't the warmest, but dealing with a bunch of folks in line all day always creates a hardened attitude. Most are fluent in Arabic and English. The sardines were fried well, but just not as mind-blowing as I thought they'd be judging from reviews. My fav were the Tiger shrimps (sautéed) and the branzino (grilled). You could really taste the char, and they were cooked perfectly. We also got butter garlic linguine with scallops and clams. My husband loved the linguine (and the free bread) the most. The scallops were nice and plump but could have been seared more. The clams were tiny and I wouldn't get them again. The guy behind the fish counter was great. The server however was pretty slow. We waited 10 mins after choosing our fish for just tap water and eventually I just got up to ask the guy behind the counter for water. I also had to go up to the server myself to ask for to-go boxes and the check. And I got up to give the check to them, because they still hadn't taken it after my trip to the bathroom. Our favorites were the Roasted Eggplant Dip (smoky and delicious) and the Grilled Spanish Branzino (grilled to perfection and well seasoned). For drinks, the Virgin Mojito was amazing and soooo refreshing that we had to ask our waiter for the recipe! Overall, it was such a pleasant dinner experience here!

Been either dining in or ordering take out ever since they opened the Rego Park location. Service is always friendly and amazing either dine in or take out. Take out is super easy. Order on line and you can even accumulate points for a future discount. They also deliver for free and its pricing is better than the online ordering services. We ordered 1lb each of the shrimp with head, snow crab legs and craw fish. We love the oceanic sauce but also ordered on garlic butter with old baby cause the little one loves it. You can also pick the level of spiciness. Only drawback is, seems like there's less sauce and the sauce is very watery compared to before and my kids love dipping the seafood back in the sauce and coating their rice in the sauce. We love the mango pina colada with a kick and the virgin option is always a treat for the 21 and under. They even sent an extra drink today since they made an extra by accident. Thank you!!!

Bring your own water, they don't serve tap - but do have plastic dixie cups. Finally went to Abuquir for an early dinner (Thursday - Saturday is the best for dining out & seafood Bourdain said). FYI don't go around Ramadan, when the baklava / kadayif bakery is open, but all the other restaurants close early. This restaurant is similar to Astoria Seafood, Hamido, & Sabry's where you place your order at the seafood counter first (including sides & drink) and then sit. Study the menu online, because the sides menu isn't posted anywhere except for the laminated sheet that the fishmonger hands you, waiting for your decision. The restaurant has about 20 seats (tables for 2 or 4) & more set up on the sidewalk. I got: $30.00 1/2lb Scallops (8 pieces) $18.54 1/2lb Tiger Shrimp (grilled, 8 pieces) $6.99 Side of Beets $6.99 Side of Babaganoush $2.99 1 medium 20fl oz. Poland Spring Water I was 1 of 2 early diners at the restaurant & everything came out pretty fast. The small cut up beets were delicious! There were big chunks of garlic marinated with it. Not a huge fan of Babaganoush, but wanted to try this there and it was very creamy & good too (no real strong flavor, a healthy drizzle of olive oil on top). IDK if the sides have been this size pre-NYTimes, but they are extremely small (6" diameter plate) for $6.99. There is lots of olive oil drizzle on top of things, take note if you're limiting oil. The bread that came with it was either overcooked - or it might have been the typical style? It was EXTREMELY leathery & almost dark tan pita-cracker like. I ate it with the meal but got extremely tired of chewing. Not sure if you can ask for free refills of bread. A google search for "Egyptian bread" shows some decent Soft puffy pita. There was a case with drinks: soda, mango juice, mediterranean fruit juice, maybe beer? The seafood was VERY fresh. Scallops large, very Lightly seasoned with a reddish seasoning. Was just slightly underdone for me but still good. The Tiger Shrimp was Excellent & cooked perfectly. It comes sitting on top of a pool of oil and seasonings/parsley, but the flavor wasn't strong enough for me to make out. I'm not sure what Egyptian seasoning for seafood is or should taste like; it wasn't very noticeable on the items that I ordered. Seems like the freshness of all the dishes were the focus. Staff is nice & attentive. The owner was at the table next to me putting in weekend orders. Chatted with him about a new café on the block. A few solo diners come in casually & seemed familiar with the place. Glad I tried it, but probably wouldn't go back because of the price point.

Came with some friends for lunch. We all got various combinations of the mixed plate and an order of fried calamari. The calamari was lightly breaded in a flaky batter that brought out the flavors of the squid. Cooked to perfection it was tender, not chewy. As for the mixed platters, we had lamb gyro and the souvlakis as well as the lemon potatoes and fries. The lemon potatoes were perfectly seasoned and had a nice tartness to each bite. The lamb gyro was tender. The chicken souvlaki being moist and flavorful is the barometer for the level of detail that goes into every plate served.
