Hate it when decent food is ruined by discourteous service. Gu Ramen is one of the first restaurants my wife and I went to, after we moved to Long Beach 4 years ago. It's within walking distance, so was a bit surprised that I hadn't visited in over 3 years. My long cruise had gotten me a craving for good ramen, so decided to walk over for an early lunch. I got there about 10 minutes after it opened at 11, and was the first customer. There were two ladies working the front, and one of them greeted me immediately. I put up an index finger with a smile to show it would just be me, and was seated near the back close to the kitchen. I got a menu immediately and was asked what I wanted to drink. I told her water which came quickly. That's when it started turned janky. The server was having a rather loud conversation with the other server in a language I didn't understand. She finally came back after the other lady walked away (to work I'm assuming), to take my order. I stated what I wanted, and without any response, she just went away...wasn't sure if she got it right (but she had). About 10 minutes later, the fried rice dish came. She just put it in front of me without a word, ignored my 'thank you', and walked off. The ramen came a bit later, and same action. She did fill my empty water glass once without me asking, so I guess she was paying attention. Note I was still the only customer. The same attitude with the bill providing and credit card swiping; by this time I stopped trying to interact too. This is the time when I WANT to either just ask "What's your problem?" or more passive aggressively "Did I offend you in some way?" Decided it wasn't worth it, paid my bill, still giving a small(er) tip, and was on my way. Did notice that she was talking normally to a new customer as he was being seated. As for the food, both dishes were decent to great: the fried rice ($7.99 as addon to ramen) was great...very generous portion, cooked over very high heat to produce a delicious veggie fried rice. The tonkotsu ramen ($13.99) with added corn ($1.99) and narutomaki ($2.99) was decent (OK). Plenty of ramen noodle (so didn't need to order extra) topped with a two thick slices of well-prepared Chashu. The broth was OK too, but did give me stomach problems later (still haven't figured out what ingredient(s) cause this...but have decided that ramen and pho are worth it for me).

Hit the spot today since it was raining Notes: -Spicy is a good spice. -Chasu and spicy ground pork are both good. -Always get the egg and the corn

    Spicy Dumplings with Salad

This spot was conveniently located in the downtown district and close to the theatre where we were going . Parking was easy as there is a lot next door. Place is cute inside, however during a busy time, i can see it would be busy because the main room doesn't have a ton of seats - but most ramen places are this way. My husband and I ordered the spicy pork dumplings and the gu (house) ramen with chashu. The spicy pork dumplings were very tasty, not very spicy at all, and came with a nice salad - but was extremely oily. The salad underneath was dripping in oil. Taste was good, but as you are eating, the oil goes all over. Enjoyable, but needs much less oil. So much was leftover that we were able to use it as a condiment down for rhe ramen. The Gu Ramen is their house ramen made with pork broth. Very tasty, the broth is very flavorful, not oily, and very delicious. Portion sizes is good. The thing with this ramen place is that each topping is an add on. So while other ramen places offer a bowl already included with some toppings, you have to pay extra for each thing you want on it, so it gets expensive. They also don't make the traditional ramen egg (marinated). Service was decent and pleasant. Our table was sticky on arrival despite the restaurant wasn't. Skimpy on the napkins, which were needed from the oily salad. Overall, while the ramen broth itself was delicious, there was nothing exemplary that would encourage me to choose this place over another ramen spot.

Went on a sunday afternoon first ones in there. Looking at the menu my boyfriend and I decided to do the $13 ramen but to ad things like egg and stuff like that is an extra charge but, they did have ramen bowls to choose from if you didnt want to customize your own. Since we went in before the rush we were sat right away and our orders were taken quick. The service was standard until a small rush came and our server got busy. Not his fault though, they should have had more foh help. But all around the food was yummerz and our server was really nice.

Food : 10/10, from the tapas to the ramen, everything was delicious! We ordered a fried calamari and it was really crispy and good! The Thai chili chicken wings are also good! I also ordered the tonkotsu ramen with pork, green onions, and bean sprouts. The meat was tender and soft! The BROTH WAS SOOOOO GOOD! It's really hard for me to find a ramen spot because the broth is either too salty, no flavor, or just really oily. But the broth here at Gu Ramen, is flavorful, not oily, and really tasty! I love their broth here and this just might be my new ramen spot! Service : Came here on a Friday night, got seated right away, and the food came out fast! Waiters and waitresses are extremely nice and attentive. Ambiance: pretty spacious inside. It is street parking or you can park at the parking structure near the restaurant!

**If looking for an authentic ramen place, this may not be the place for you.** Coming here super hungry and seeing all the great reviews, I left super disappointed in almost every aspect - the service, the food, and even having to pay for parking in DTLB. The place was almost empty when we arrived, however we didn't feel very welcomed. The waitresses were not very friendly and didn't really check on us throughout the meal. My fiancé and I both had a gu ramen, mild and spicy, and the chashu bowl. Both ramens were not authentic ramen flavors (maybe it was on us for not knowing this beforehand), yet even then, the Thai flavors didn't seem to really work well with the tonkatsu broth. The chashu was incredibly chewy and rubbery, and we received hard boiled eggs on top rather than the usual runny egg. The chashu bowl was probably the highlight of the meal - the fried rice was great, but... it's just fried rice. The chashu was again very chewy and rubbery and we only got TWO pieces, and for almost $20, we were expecting a little bit more, both quality and quantity wise. For a $60 meal, you can imagine how disappointed we felt afterwards.

Great spot a few blocks away from the convention center Nice ambiance Good service Good selection of drinks and food

experience was great until the very end. i'm pretty disappointed in the service and our server specifically. we were sat swiftly and prices were good, ramen was ok, noodles were a bit overcooked. at the end, my friend and i split our checks. i tipped, my friend didn't. when our server (a young asian woman) came and picked up our checks, she cornered my friend from leaving and pointed at the check. we were both confused, wondering if he didn't add the total or something. she then said "tip" ?? absolutely absurd. when my friend pointed out that i had tipped for the both of us, she then said that they were "two separate checks" and quite literally did not let him leave until he tipped. she then walked away with an attitude. i understand living is difficult, im not an idiot, which is why i tipped. if she and the staff wanted to sh*t talk us after we left, go ahead. but to corner a customer & force them to tip is absolutely horrendous. i will not be returning, extremely disappointing and disrespectful service.

This place was on our list to try....it was good. We got the Spicy Gu Ramen & it was SPICY, but not a lot of other taste. The La Cheese Wontons were also good but didn't care for the sweet sauce they pour over them and the Crispy Pork Potstickers were very good. The service was awesome & that why I'm giving them 4 stars. Would definitely try again & try something else.

We sat at the bar and the sushi, chefs and server were nice. We ordered their spicy edamame which was loaded with flavor by far the best spicy edamame. I love the garlic and chili combos with a little citrus flavor. Also ordered the stinky roll, which is spicy tuna on the inside and salmon on the outside which I liked very much couldn't decide on a second roll so I asked the server to surprise us and kind of regret doing that because he had brought us a roll that I was already cringing at reading the description on the menu which was their long beach roll however, the crunch it had on the inside was very nice and not too heavy. I don't feel that asparagus should be anywhere near a sushi roll, but that was my bad. Also ordered their Yuzu cheesecake, which was a no for me. It was too strong and screaming Yuzu simialr to lemon zest and super tiny. The quality of the ingredients they use here are pretty good. I would come back to try other items, but I do not suggest getting their dessert or their long beach roll.

I've never tasted katsu so light even though it's typically fried, and love the sauce they paired the katsu with. It was almost like a mustard? But it wasn't too overpowering or anything. We finished the night with the tempura ice cream, and let me tell you, this is a MUST. I honestly just expected them to throw some panko on top of a scoop of ice cream, but Te-Buru's take is (somehow) baking a tempura crust right onto a giant scoop of ice cream and then cutting up the scoop into wedges. The ice cream surprisingly did not melt all that quickly either, and the matcha flavor was on point. Our servers were quick to meet our requests, nothing super outstanding but made the meal pretty seamless. Prices I think were pretty standard except for their sushi. Those are bit on the steeper side, but again, their fish quality is really good. Sushi Nikkei is a unique experience, blending sushi with Peruvian cuisine. It's a fantastic date night spot for adventurous foodies. Here's what I got that I think really made Sushi Nikkei shine: Scallops - These grilled scallops are small, but pack a punch with smoky charred flavors from the grill, tender scallops, and crispy crunchies from the popped quinoa. This is a great starter. Tuna Tacos - These are simple and delicious. One to two bites of crisp, refreshing, flavorful tuna tartare in a light, flaky fried wonton shell. Tostada - This was good, but a goof one to pass on if you're choosing between appetizers. It's a good sample of all of the fresh flavors available, but the tuna tacos are just a similar and better option. Nikkei Tasting - The Nikkei tasting is the perfect way to try what Peruvian sushi means. It's a fun encapsulation of what flavors they want to bring forward in their dishes. All of the pieces are very unique, flavorful, and fun to try. I've gotten this every single time I've been here and I have not regretted it. Unknown Tiradito - I am always underwhelmed by their tiraditos/ceviche situations, so it makes sense why I can't remember what this one was called. I also can't find the name on their menus, but I've included it in the photos here. They're fresh, but to me, the flavors are always a little wonky. It shares parking with a couple other business and the entrance is just off the alleyway off Carson. Construction in the back did halt some of the parking spaces and entrance on one side. I didn't know where the entrance was walking around the block which found out later that the entrance was where parking is. I believe you could get on the waitlist but it was still early during lunch time when we arrived that it wasn't necessary. The restaurant itself isn't that big. A good amount of Asian modern style seating. Menu is pretty limited but gets down to the punch. Ramen, a couple of rice dishes and starters. Basically it. They had some alcoholic drink options too. We started off with some beers, the crispy chicken which was really nice. Thick chunks of thighs lightly deep fried and served with a dipping sauce. Juicy and tender. Entrees, the tonkatsu which you could make into a combo that comes with a side salad, and with salmon poke bowl or spicy tuna bowl for an additional fee. The broth for the ramen was quite tasty and paired really well with everything that added to it. And very filling. Also had the pork rice bowl with pork chashu, green onions, poached egg, spinach on top of rice. That was quite tasty and filling as well. There's a small and large option. Lastly the vegan ramen with sesame miso broth, broccolini, corn, bean sprouts, soy meat, tofu, baby kale with chili oil. Food was quite tasty and very filling. Service was great with friendly staff. Didn't take long for the items to arrive. The place isn't that big so it does get busy.

We ordered via third party app because the preparation of the poke sounded intriguing and different. The food came in cute packaging. When we opened the containers, in my opinion there was too much rice/quinoa to fish portion. I did enjoy the taste of the poke. It had bits of sour notes from the apple dressing, which is different from what you normally order with poke. The avocado balances out the sourness. And the poke surprisingly pairs well with quinoa. The pork buns were really delicious! It has that umami taste you look for when eating pork. The meat was very tender - easy to bite and chew. The bun was nice and soft - had good texture. And the onions that came on it was good. You don't get that oniony, bitter taste that lingers in your mouth. Overall, I enjoyed the food. Poke was good but idk if I'd order it again because the rice-fish portions are off. But I definitely need to try the ramen cos I know that's what they're known for.

No Live Scallops were available, which displeased my daughter and granddaughter--but not me, because they are one of the most expensive items sold here when in stock. The two disappointed diners were comforted somewhat by two Seal Beach Rolls, while I enjoyed a great Spicy Tuna Roll which did not have overwhelming spiciness. Diane was happy with two orders of All Shrimp Tempura, while I dabbled with one order of Assorted Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura that included great-tasting delicate Sweet Potato, Zucchini, Broccoli, Mushroom and Onion Tempura, besides hot and juicy Shrimp Tempura. Miso Soup was good, as well as a small included salad. As to which dressing is tastier between Ginger and Poppyseed Dressing, I still can't make up my mind. So, as usual, I applied each one to half of the salad. For my chosen entree Sukiyaki was fine--just not as hot as usual. And the portion was large enough to give some to my granddaughter and still have enough food remaining at dinner's end for a likeable lunch the next day. Koi will continue to be my favorite go-to restaurant for non-teppan Japanese cuisine.

We ordered the vegan bun as well as two bowls of ramen, one was made vegetarian and the other was shrimp and chicken (blanking on the name). Both were phenomenal, super filling, and flavorful. My only issue is that the broth wasn't piling hot, so it cooled down and thickened up pretty quickly for mine (shrimp and chicken ramen). I will definitely be back here if I'm in the area and it's late!
