I bought a set of Ameriglo bold night sites from them and an soon as I put them on my Glock I realized that they aren't visible enough for me in the day time. I immediately removed the sights and placed them back in the original packaging and emailed GT Distributors for a return authorization number only to be told that since I placed them on the Glock, they couldn't give me a refund. I then asked if I could return the sights and at least get a credit towards the purchase of some other sights that may work better for me, only to be told that they couldn't do that either. So now I'm stuck with a set of $90 sights that I'll never use. Not very customer Friendly read more

I will first say that I've been dealing with GT's for many years since 1998 when they were located on Guadalupe. I remember ordering a holster from them around that time and it taking 5 weeks to get. I have since shopped there many many times without problems, but recently was in the market for a Remington 700. I walked in and spoke to a salesman that seemed like he knew what I was looking for, but it wasn't a gun they had in stock. He immediately called their supplier in attempt to obtain a price. He wasn't able to get the price so he said he'd contact me before the end of the day if not the next day. I gave both my email and phone number. This was the week after x-mas, 2010. It's been over two weeks now and not a single call or email. I have already purchased the gun elsewhere. I've had another recent dealing with them today. I received a gift certificate for GT's as a x-mas gift, so I still needed to spend the money. I placed a phone order on 1/7/11 for scope rings and a sling. The sling is on their site, but the scope rings were an item they didn't stock. Nothing special though, just Leupold QRW rings. Three phone calls later (was on hold two other times for over 5 minutes and nobody picked up), I finally spoke to a human that works at GT's. I asked the status of my order and received an answer "those items were ordered". No Shit Captain Obvious, I think I already knew that. I asked if there was an ETA and the response was a very quick "No". As a local LEO, it's very convenient to have GT's for necessary items, but good luck in ordering anything from them. My experience with ordering items though GT's is similar to dealing with a crackhead on Rundberg. You just never know what you're going to get. If it wasn't for the gift card, I would've ordered and already received the items if I went through midway or some other online dealer. Update 1/14/11: I called GTs yesterday and was advised the order has been placed, but there has been no response from the vendor. I immediately canceled my order and placed an order with OpticsPlanet.com on 1/13/11. I just received an email advising the items have shipped. No tax and free shipping. And not to mention I'll have my scope rings in just a couple days where GT's didn't even have an ETA after a week of waiting. I don't work in the retail business, but it seems to me that there are some QC issues with GT's vendors if they're having trouble getting a set of scope rings and a sling. read more

Great customer service and if they don't have it on hand they are willing to custom order and once they call you they hold your order for 5 days. Can't wait for mine to come in. I compared the Glock 31 and Glock 32 for comfort and fit and found that 31 fit my hands better and they also carry the .357 sig rounds that I needed also. read more

GT Distributors is an interesting place. It feels more like a Best Buy than an old school gun store. Since they're primary clients are law enforcement, they have a larger selection of accessories (especially non-firearm related ones) than most gun stores, their prices are also very reasonable. read more

Great prices on GLocks. Got a Gen4 G17 with new ejector and recoil spring installed before I left the store. One thing I've found is that wait times do increase the more people that are at the gun counter, but that has been my experience everywhere I go. The actual process of buying the gun is very quick, though. It's terribly convenient for me to shop there, and I probably spend more time in there than I should. read more

GT Distributors was my local FFL holder for a transfer from an online Glock vendor. Their FFL receiving fee of $16.00 is very reasonable and below that required for most other FFL's in the Austin area at the time of this review. Initially I had thought about using McBrides Guns, but after visiting the store and encountering a number of staff with more attitude than intelligence I decided to try elsewhere. The guys at GT Distributors seem honest and sincere and the "jerk" factor of the staff is very low compared to places like McBrides Guns or Red's Indoor Range. Having said that, it's clear that they need to work on streamlining their processes and they need additional staff to help customers. For example, my firearm arrived at their store early on Wednesday however it was late the next Friday afternoon before they sent an email notification to me to come pick up the gun. On Friday, it took several phone calls and then an email request to get confirmation that the gun was there and ready to pick up. I went by their store on Saturday around 11:00 and encountered a 15 person long line around the front checkout counter waiting to pay and leave. I walked to the back wall gun counter and encountered about 25 people waiting at the gun counter for help. There were two guys behind the counter working. The store was severely under-staffed. It took over an hour waiting at the gun counter to pick up a single hand gun. Around eight minutes of that time was devoted to me filling out a form and paying the transfer fee. During the last 10 minutes of my wait, the clerk asked if I needed any ammunition or accessories? I did in fact want to buy some other things including a gun bag, ammunition, snap caps, shooting glasses, etc. but I was so worn out from standing at the counter for the last hour I simply said "no" to avoid any additional delay. The process took so long that I just wanted to pay the fee and get out of there. From my place in line at the gun counter, it looked like the rest of the store was well stocked, clean and organized. If you don't mind standing in long lines to get help or to check out, it's probably a nice place to shop . I just wouldn't go there during a lunch break or when you don't have a lot of time to wait and wait and wait. read more

Big fan. GT's has just about anything tactical you can come up with. Their prices are average, although Glocktoberfest is something to definitely attend. Don't get your gun sights installed here as they usually don't sight them in correctly. Store is clean. They do a wonderful job catering to first responders. read more

DO NOT buy online. I ordered an E2 grip upgrade kit for a P226 DA/SA when I received the order the invoice matched what I ordered. I then struggled with the install for several minutes before I realized I had the wrong critter. The baggie that the part was in was labeled as belonging to a P229, not the P226 I ordered. That makes the grip a bit short. So I called for an RMA and they rather grudgingly took it back -- then they sent me a replacement, but this time for a P226 DAK, not the P226 DA/SA that the (typewritten in bold font) return form clearly specified that I needed. Great selection, professional and prices usually, if not always, beat big box stores significantly on guns and ammo. I bought my Colt AR there and the computer background check was quick and easy, they helped me out a lot at the counter and I even got a free tactical bag with it. For an example on prices, Gander Mountain sells the Ruger 40C for $100 more than GT so why go to a box store? What makes it not a full 5 star for me is that I have rarely, if ever, been approached while shopping out on the floor and asked if I needed any help. I know it's crowded because of demand but also you'd think there would be people there to support it the increased load. As an example, when checking out nearly all the time there are only usually two registers running and the process take forever to go through even for something like a single box of ammo. At Academy or Walmart I get the box, pay and leave but at GT I stand in a single line 15 people deep for two registers (usually) and then have to give all sorts of information at the register. I can't say for sure but I'd say instead of checking out within 1 minute like other places I 'd guess I spend up to 5 minutes at the register alone(not including the line prior) giving information for items that should require nothing more than cash or a credit card. All in all though, GT is my favorite in Central Texas and beats all the box stores and other smaller shops I have been to so I keep coming back. read more

Really good unique selection. I thought I couldn't shop there as a civi - but went in and no problem. Prices were better than Academy (holster, sling, belt) - same brand holster. Ammo prices looked good, but I did not buy any. I will be going back. The team seemed helpful - no hassles, checking in without making you feel weird, courteous, professional. I've been a Texas LEO for 25 years and have been going to GT's for about as long. While it is a big store with a large selection a recent incident has led me to the decision not to do business with them any more. Some months ago I put my name on a waiting list for a pistol. After waiting 4 months they called and said it had come in. I live no where near Austin but had a planned trip at the end of the month about 2 weeks away. I tried to pay for the gun in full over the phone as I was under the impression they took phone orders. I was told that I had to come pick up the gun a week sooner than my planned trip. The reason given was that they really wanted to get the guns off the shelves. Well I tried to pay and they have a lay away program which would imply they know how to hold an item, but no... I had to take a day off work and drive 2 hrs. Once there I ask again why. In addition to the original story I was told something about they get charged for guns left on the shelf after the fiscal year... the fiscal had ended the month before. No more. Nothing there I can't get elsewhere with better customer service. read more

As a Glock Distributor, there prices are unbeatable as most shops can't price match their low prices. I called earlier in the week and was put on a waiting list for something I was looking for. Other shops usually don't do this or follow up when the item arrives. I received a call that the items were back in stock and so I visited the next day. In and out without any hassles. They even installed base-plate extensions for me (without me having to ask) as we were waiting for paperwork to go through. Other places would probably tell you to find a "How To" video on YouTube. They also installed my night-sights in less than 15 minutes and also went over the little quirks involved with my purchase. read more

Do NOT spend your hard earned money with this corrupt business. I decided to place an order because they offered free shipping, most of the items i wanted were out of stock so I only ordered 6 things. They ended up sending me a wrong item, I immediately called them on a Friday afternoon to explain the issue and they told me i would have to send the item back and then they would send me the correct item, but they also told me because it was "too late in the day" they wouldn't email me a return shipping label until the following Monday. Monday came and went with no email from them, I ended up sending 3 emails in 5 days, after zero response I called them twice and was put on hold and eventually hung up on. It is now 11 days since I received the wrong item and I told them about it and they have not bothered to respond at all. I have used every email they give and tried to contact them directly through the website and they refuse to respond. Now I am stuck having to contact my bank to see if they can help to get my money back. Stay far away from these corrupt people. read more

This place is a joke. Yeah, they have an "ok" selection of gear, but their customer service is atrocious. I watched a "tacti-cool" beard kid not recognize a well known Vietnam Era Special Forces soldier with more than 300 confirmed kills to his credit, and then proceed to try and play big man on campus with him over firearms knowledge. The guy just wanted to purchase a new Concealed Carry weapon. The SF, being an old school quiet professional just played dumb and said he'd have to think more about what he wanted to buy and left (to go buy his sidearm somewhere else I'm sure.) This place thinks it's hot stuff because they service LEO's. US Army Special Operations legends aren't as cool as Cops I guess. LOL! I left right after seeing it. I'll never be back. Errata: When a man who's used a .45ACP to kill more men than you'll ever drink beer with says he wants a .45ACP, you move your butt to get it for him. Worst customer service EVER!!!! I should preface by saying my husband frequents GT on a regular basis as a police officer and CHL instructor. I know nothing about this stuff but purchased gifts for him from here for Christmas. Of course I paid no attention to what I was charged, and he ended up needing to exchange all the items because, as I said, I had no idea what I was buying for him and knowing this would be the case I gave him the receipt I had saved for him. When he went in the cashier first complained that there was lint on the tshirt and commented "don't u have a lint brush or something?" he responded that it was a gift and the tags are still on and its unused so no - he didn't lint roll it. Bad start. then the cashier realized that one of the items had been entered incorrectly resulting in a charge of zero dollars which I hadn't even noticed when I purchased because its not the customers responsibility to make sure they do their job right. He then told my husband that if he hadn't brought it back in he could have kept it but "thanks for being honest - hehe...." What a jerk! He then proceeded to TAKE the item - which was a GIFT - away from him and didn't offer an exchange or store credit of any kind even though it was THIER MISTAKE!!! I tried to call to speak with a manager and was taken through a maze of automated menus only to be hung up on with no option to leave a message at any time. I am seriously disappointed with this service! in the future, all fellow police officers and CHL students that we encounter will be encouraged to find ANY distributor EXCEPT GT and we will take our business elsewhere unless I am contacted by someone willing to fix this situation!! read more

I came here after work looking to buy a shotgun. I waited quietly and looked at some of the other guns in their case while others were being helped. I waited ... And waited .. And waited . Finally, one of the salesman had finished up his sale and was putting up his paperwork. He looked at me and walked away. Are you kidding me ? I've waited here for 15 minutes and you completely ignore me!!! Wth !! I got frustrated and left. The last time I came here I purchased a cold steel recon folding blade. The customer service was excellent! I don't know why he completely ignored me and walked away to talk with the other salesman dealing with his customer, but whatever. If your reading this GT just know that your salesman is destroying your good name. If your salesman did not want to work. Send his butt home!! Hire people who want to work and are willing to help. I had stopped by 2 times since to try to get small things, but cannot pay for it due to the cashiers having piles of cloths, etc. on the counter and long customer lines, had written the manager, never heard back. Tried again today, same thing, the employees are confused, and the pile of belts and cloths on the counter that they don't seem to know what to do with. I always feel a little out of place there as they cater primarily to LEO and AF people and I definitely don't look those parts... But they are still friendly. Their inventory is also primarily oriented towards tactical and duty gear so if you are looking for a big selection of used guns (other than PD trade-ins), stuff for hunting or things like reloading equipment this isn't the store to go to, but if you are looking for, say, spring cups for a Glock like I was the other day, they had 'em in stock. Prices are fair, better if you qualify for some of the LEO discounts. read more
