I have been going to almost all FFLs in the Austin area as a firearm owner of 90+ different tools. I started ONLY going to GT Distributors as during the gun ban scare with Demonrats in power (RE: if you are one, be ashamed of yourself and choke on something when you eat, domestic t3rr0rist), most all FFLs raised their prices to "ridiculous" as people were buying tons of guns. However, not the case with GTD -- they kept their price the same it was before the gun fever. Yes, their price was $10 more than others before the panic buying, but once it was on, they were $25+ cheaper for transfer than any other gun store in Austin. So, I kept going in there for that reason. Nowadays their price is $35 / transfer, which is more than others, but I really don't care as they were great during the panic buying times. I also enjoy the knowledge that their gun counter folks have, so I don't have to spell everything to them plus they are not your average gun store idiots either and truly know about firearms. Lots of people giving GTD 1-star reviews, but I am pretty sure they had something to do with the service they got... Anyway, I like them, so you don't have to. read more

Very friendly staff, if your buying a gun the wait at the gun counter can be long and you have to take a number but the people there know a lot about firearms (as they should) and do a good job helping you if it's your first time. I recently bought my first pistol a Springfield XD and I had to come in today to get an extra magazine I didn't bring my gun and had trouble finding the right one, I couldn't remember what variation my XD was when I asked for help but they said I could always bring my gun in unloaded in either a case or holster and they could help me which was nice. Their selection is amazing and it's easy to get lost in their store, I highly recommend coming in the early afternoon or morning because they close at 6 so you'll have better time to browse if you come earlier. read more

If you're coming here for the first or second time and you're not exactly a seasoned gun enthusiast you might find the folks here a little distant. As I read through many of the reviews, and there's almost 150, it seems customer service is a complaint. In a way, I can see why because as you enter into the business, the place is as quiet as a morgue and I have to admit there was no greeting when I came in. If you're bringing a weapon that you need accessories for or wish to sell you must check in at the front counter before you head to the back counter. You then must take a number and grab a seat until called. I have to admit if there's two or three people in front of you, you could be in for a 15 minute wait. While I was there, I perused all the accessories trying to find the ones which match up to my two firearms. And here's where it comes in handy to actually bring your firearm in because despite knowing what they were, there were some subtle differences in the designs. I was able to pick up a holster for one firearm along with some target and hollow point ammo. One of the staff were very helpful in helping me find what I was looking for because they have a tremendous assortment of accessories. Unfortunately, they did not carry the clips that I needed, including an ammo holster. I prefer shopping the brick and mortar as opposed to Amazon, which is why I like to come here. I we here today to upgrade my carry pistol and bought my 7th Glock from GT and of course the prices are great as a Blue label price for military and fist responders. The pistol was over $100 cheaper than cabelas and the Glock trigger was $25 cheaper overall excellent price. I didn't have to wait long and the federal check was fast using the laptops furnished. Overall a great experience and great price I will be back for sure. read more

Typical ammo police equipment store. Place was pretty busy, full of people. Many staff members do not know how to wear a mask properly, some with their noses exposed and some not wearing one at all. Ironic since they have a sign at the door saying you must wear one to enter. read more

Kirby Evan, the instructor, was very knowledgable in this field as there are very few RDS Instructor Classes, and I obtained a better understand of the RDS system. I woul recommend this class to any law enforcement instructor that is considering switching from iron sights to pistol optics. I have been in this store many times over the last few months and every time the staff is ready to help, answer any questions I have and just be 100% in what they are doing. The are professional, kind and courteous. They really understand that not all of us know just what we need so they listen to your needs and work with you to find the best product for you. Everyone seems to really want to be there and I can't walk 10 feet without someone making sure I am taken care of and funding what I need. This is a great review that starts out a bit rough. It took me about 2-3 visits before I felt their employees "warmed up" to me. Gotta be honest, it felt quite impersonal at first and had kind of a sterile "business only" vibe to it. I know it's firearms being sold here, I get that, but having a sense of humor can still be achieved, while still being serious. In retail, personality is everything. EVEN in a store selling firearms. All this being said, this was until Ignacio approached me as I was browsing the magazine aisle. Ignacio was just super gracious and it was obvious he cared less about my personal knowledge base and more about being respectful and helpful and guiding me in the right direction. From the start it was clear that Ignacio wasn't just a clerk. He didn't just work there to have a job, training as he went along as so many retail store employees seem to do. They just "clock-in". Ignacio actually has a deep personal passion and real experience in the field. As a professional nationally touring musician, I recognize passion when I see it and it was absolutely clear right away that I was in good hands. Ignacio's knowledge and spirit comes from real life and not just on-site job training. From there on we just started talking, shooting the sh*t about passion and respect for firearms and for the US constitution. I thought that was super cool, rather than just being sold on merchandise right up front. I just trusted him immediately. He's now my go-to guy and he's the main reason for this 5 star review. Ask for him on your next visit, trust me. You'll get the respect you deserve and benefit from a lot of knowledge too. I wanna add that I was always taken care of. Every employe I dealt with was nice and DID take care of me. I just personally prefer a bit more conversation and some personalty doesn't hurt either. It's not the DMW, know what I'm saying here, ha ha ha. On my 2nd trip there I was trading in an older firearm for a new one and that time I was helped out by Ben, the store manager. He was SUPER cool. Personable, respectful, knowledgeable and showed GREAT leadership and efficiency. Everything went quick and smooth and he was more than fair too. It was a great experience and I felt really taken care off, I felt stoked about my new purchase and I wanted to come back. So all and all. Go see Ignacio. But in general, after visiting the store now on more than a few occasions, having made several purchases, I feel it's a nice store and I do like everyone there. It's also the most competitive prices I've found in Austin and the surrounding area. Last thing. Calling the store, and the customer service I personally have received over the phone have been a mixed bag. It's kinda all over the place, unfortunately. Ordering stuff not in stock have also been only somewhat pleasing and doesn't really compete with ordering from other stores online. You save money through GT, but it can take a while, just so you know. Either way, this isn't holding me back from coming back. Their prices are fair, their selections are solid, and the store is run by a totally stand-up manager who knows what he's doing and WILL make anything right if need be. These clowns made me wait 95 minutes, with only TWO customers ahead of me (already being helped when I arrived, neither of which were waiting for background checks to happen or anything that would potentially delay their receiving proper service and leaving the counter so the next customer could be helped), simply to pick-up an FFL transfer item which was shipped to their store, (I did not have a choice in which FFL transfer location this item was sent to as I would have chosen The Range Austin, where the employees are courteous, professional, and efficient). I am a current LTC holder which means the otherwise time consuming federal background check is bypassed re: any basic firearms purchase. The clerks stood around gabbing with the old men at the counter, who both closely resembled Elmer Fudd. I was beginning to get irritated as no one has so much as greeted or acknowledged my existence despite my having been standing with a number in my hand for 30+ mins at that point, but my irritation quickly spiraled to a state of BEYOND appalled upon catching an earful of the absolutely lacksidasical manner in which both the GT EMPLOYEE and customer exchanged blatantly racist banter, whilst laughing, joking, grunting, and carrying on. Now, I'm not a "libtard" by any means, but I do not stand for that level of disgusting, pure trash-human behavior. It os ignorant, neanderthal, and entirely unacceptable ESPECIALLY from a vendor who boasts being the main supplier of local law enforcement (even MORESO due to events over the past year or so re: race & law enforcement). And then, on top of having to endure that, being a wounded veteran as well and clearly with a mobility issue, I was then charged $60 for a freaking FFL transfer!! Are you kidding me? That is the most expensive, joke of a price for a simple FFL transfer, especially given that no background check had to be run or extensive time taken on this transaction as I previously mentioned I am a current Texas license to carry holder which allows me to bypass of the major, time consuming, portion of the firearms purchase procedure. $60!! For wasting about an hour and a half almost 2 hours of my day, whilst being forced to listen to some racist idiots grunt back and forth. That is stupidest thing I've ever been obligated to subject myself to in a very long time and I will never, ever go back to GNT distributors. This is not the first time I have had a horrendous experience with this retailer, and I will NEVER give GT Distributor another chance to potentially demonstrate how much more of a dumpster fire their establishment truly is. read more

Place is ok, sadly one of the better gun stores in the city. Staff are rude and have zero organization when it comes to keeping a line moving; something you're gonna get used to anytime you get to the gun counter. Another pet peeve is displaying guns that can't be sold. Here look at this and hold it and wait an undetermined amount of time before we can sell you the one that gets shipped in. Stupid but honestly makes perfect sense for Austin. If you have a gun, sell it. Otherwise stop fronting with your elaborate inventory of guns that might be available in 6 months to a year. I waited for 15 minutes in line, and although someone had the time to come up to me and hand me a mask, he did not help out the single checker that was helping the 8 people in line. Totally unacceptable lack of customer service. Knowing full well the nature of their clientele, many of whom are shift workers who must go through extraordinary measures to make it in during business hours, and many of their services are unavailable during their normal business hours, being limited to only certain hours on certain days. It's cool the sewing crews go home early and don't work Saturday, but that shouldn't matter when it comes to dropping off or picking up a non-alteration order. read more

First time customer. My experience with guns is from many years ago so I consider myself a novice at best. I worked with Michael Scott and could not have been happier. The guy clearly knows his stuff and had that calm and patient professionalism that helped me relax and feel good about my decisions. Never once did I feel rushed or pushed to buy. He can probably still hear my rapid fire questions ringing in his head. What I would tell myself 24 hours ago: Take a number, dummy, and be prepared to stand in line for a while. The gun buying process is heavily regulated and they are helping people from all walks of life and experience levels. You will get your turn. Toughen up, buttercup. I REALLY like dealing with these guys. I decided to take back a Glock I had purchased about a year ago to see what they would give me for trade-in value. I approached the gun counter and was immediately asked if I needed assistance, I explained what I wanted, he looked at the gun and said he couldn't give me nearly what I could get if I sold it myself. He suggested a procedure using TexasGunTrader and passed along a few tips to ensure I didn't get ripped off or sell to a bad guy. Sure enough, sold the gun in 2 days for $145 more than GT offered. I asked about some mag extenders for another Glock I own, he walked over to a display rack, got what I needed and popped the extenders on the magazines for me (a miserable task if you don't do them all the time). I also asked about some optics for my 5.56 rifle. Never rushed and answered all my questions...even the dumb ones...with a smile. read more

Worse customer service I've experienced from any company period and Ive been to communist countries. Waited in line with the next number in my hand for over 30 minutes while two staff members chatted up and "worked" on the computer. Calling in was just as bad and finally hung up after 20 minutes. Once they found out I was not law enforcement in the store the demeanor changed drastically and I was treated like a second class citizen. I was told online and in person that they had the firearm in stock but when they checked the computer after I told them I was not eligible for the police discount, low and behold they were out. Put on a backorder list for a month now and I'm not holding my breath. Retailer is rude and has nothing but contempt for the ordinary citizen. Was recommended here by my father who was local PD for over 30 years but i always thought it was only open to law enforcement. Went in, was greeted, I asked for james(a guy my dad knows on a name by name basis) and was taken care of immediately. They took my gun, broke it down and had me outta the store in about 30 minutes. The staff is extremely rude, unhelpful and slow.
