The event had…read morea little something for everyone, including a petting zoo from Tiny Tails to You, plant potting activities, complimentary margaritas, juice samples, and prize giveaways. The atmosphere was welcoming and family-friendly, with plenty of opportunities to explore the store while enjoying the activities. The plant pop-up was a nice touch and fit perfectly with Whole Earth's outdoor lifestyle theme. I also enjoyed seeing the updates to the Lamar location, including the refreshed store layout. Whole Earth Provision Co. has always been a great place to find outdoor gear, unique gifts, and adventure-inspired products, and events like this make the shopping experience even more enjoyable. It was a creative way to bring the community together and celebrate the outdoors.

The first time I went I felt like I was borderline being followed around by staff without even being spoken to. They have a lot of potential to be great if they just had friendlier rapport with customers.

This place has plenty of room to paddle and an amazing view of the city. Such a good view that your girlfriend will ask you to take photos of her in front of the city while on the water and you clutch her phone with a death grip knowing if you drop it it may be your death. Only issue here is limited parking. Don't park on the sides of the road. Tried that got a ticket. So come early and get a spot in their tiny parking lot or über on over here. Austin PD makes bank on parking citations from this business, wait to support the city of Austin.

The store is a single room with boards lined up on the walls. If you want, you can check out the SUPATX website and see a live feed (uh, kind of stalker like haha). With my familiarity from surfing, a used board was my intention. I met Chris, who was extremely helpful. He showed me two used boards and gave me the history behind them. One board was in stellar condition with some wear and tear. The other board had a dent from shipping, which they repaired. I purchased the formerly dented board and he told me that they will fix it if I have any issues in the future. He hooked it up with a great deal. Because we had some kill time, he let us play with the balance board in the shop. He did not mind us bringing our dog into the shop. Lastly, he helped us strap the board to the SUV. Finally, they sell a variety of accessories: water cameras, dry pouches, leashes, bags, coolers, waterproof speakers, etc. Check these guys out for some amazing boards and great times.

The store has a nice layout, and you can easily find what you're looking for. I met Leslie, who was super helpful and patient. She recommended I spend a few minutes walking around the fitting area to get a good feel of the boot to determine the best fit. I'm in between sizes depending on shoes, brand and design (6-6.5 US Women) and typically wear lightweight socks with all year-round boots. To my surprise the Blundstone Original Chelsea # 510 in size 3 (AU/UK) = 36 EU fit just right. I wore my new boots to Vancouver, and they were comfortable right out of the box, no need to break them in. I signed up for their membership and can't wait go to back to pick up a few more things--overall solid experience.

Your Urban Basecamp for Outdoor Everything…read more The REI in downtown Austin is the kind of place that somehow makes you want to go camping immediately, even if you walked in just to browse. It's well-stocked, well-organized, and staffed by folks who clearly live and breathe the outdoor life. What makes it great: Excellent layout -- spacious, easy to navigate, and doesn't feel overcrowded, even when it's busy. Gear is thoughtfully displayed, and the store flows well from one department to the next. Helpful staff -- genuinely friendly and super knowledgeable. Whether you're getting fitted for boots, comparing bike racks, or just looking for the best water bottle, they take the time to walk you through your options without upselling. Well-stocked -- From high-end hiking gear to commuter-friendly bike accessories, it's got a little of everything. Great selection of clothing, trail snacks, and even travel gear if you're about to hit the airport. Bike shop in the back is a hidden gem. Solid service, quick turnaround, and honest recommendations. Bonus: Located in a convenient area with easy parking (which is a huge win downtown). Feels like a hub for the local outdoor community -- check the events board or just chat with someone about where to hike, paddle, or ride next. Bottom line: Whether you're prepping for a thru-hike, a weekend at Barton Creek, or just commuting across town, REI Austin is a reliable and inspiring place to stock up. Great gear, even better people.
