Product was fine. I brought in my bike to have them pack it in a travel case and rent the travel case for a week they told me it would be $60 for labor to disassemble the bike and pack it up, and then $40 for the week of the case rental. I showed up to pick up the bike and they told me that now labor was $80 because it took them longer than expected to pack the bike. I would have appreciated them sticking with the price that they shared with me instead of up-charging me with no forewarning when I showed up. Faced with severely worn chain rings on my vintage LeMond road bike, and not able to get replacement parts or useful advice from my regular bike shop in Dallas, Austin TriCyclist took the time and patience to teach me how to evaluate used parts and to show me some alternative part options from different manufacturers, at no charge for their counseling. When I was miraculously able to locate a brand new NOS exact replacement crankset I decided to give them the business of installing it, which they did for an amazingly low cost though I was willing to pay whatever they asked, without question. With the corona virus pandemic going on I was so happy to find out that Austin Tri-Cyclist was open. I called ahead to be sure and was assured they were open and before hanging up they did clarify what their new hours were so I wouldn't come at a time possibly listed on google and be disappointed. Which I appreciated! Upon arrival I really just needed the basics. Air filled up and my handle bars re-wrapped. The gentlemen helping me were kind and helpful. They checked my bike out to ensure everything else was going to operate smoothly before me leaving. Breaks, tires, chain etc. The prices were super reasonable and at no point did I feel duped into needing to do more to my bike. I was very happy with my experience here and am thankful for them to help me with my bike during this time! Support small businesses ALWAYS! You guys are awesome! read more

I came into the store, noticed immediately that an employee was not wearing a mask to cover their mouth or their nose. I was referred to be helped by this gentleman, and I asked him to put on his mask, his response "I forgot" they did a mediocre job at tunning my bike up, after asking this person to put on their mask, as required by the city of Austin, the rest of the staff shot me dirty looks. I didn't feel welcomed from the beginning, and no one was friendly. I don't recommend this business. read more

I came here for their full iron tune up and had some mixed feelings. They did a great job on the cleaning of the bike and they were prompt in getting the work done. However the gears were not indexed when I picked up the bike from the shop. I was able to fix this on my own but I was not able to ride the bike at first because of this. When I made them aware of this, all they offered was for me to bring it back in. I'd expect some sort of discount for a mishap like this where I'm wasting my time and gas to take my bike back over to you to finish your job. I also mentioned the bike had a creak noise I could not diagnose, but they made no mention of this when I picked it up. I assumed it was addressed but the creak is still there. I have no idea if they even tried to fix that. I'd expect a more thorough review of the work performed when I'm paying for the best tune up they offer. read more

I am in shape. I may not have a perfect body (cause I really like to eat entire pizzas at one time) or anything but I am in pretty good condition. Well I decided to "wing it" and do the Capital of Texas olympic distance triathlon this weekend. I thought "eh, I can muscle through anything" and that would be it. Ok well maybe it would be a good idea to not drown and so I went and did the Splash-n-Dash at Pure Austin Quarry Lake to get a bit of swimming practice in and there, surrounded by people in fancy gear, I realized I looked ridiculous in just a basic bathing suit. Although comfortable in my suit, I was self-concious as I ran around the lake in nothing but a swimsuit and sneakers. So today I grit my teeth and went off to buy some tri clothes. I HATE spending money on gear. I just want to go play and I don't like having to invest my paycheck into a sport. I went to one store and left quickly after being frustrated with with high prices and realizing that somehow the tri-shorts made my athletic body look like an athletic sea lion's body. Off to Austin Tri-Cyclist I went instead. There a lady was so attentive and helped me to find the exact fit I needed. She knew the inventory and the pros and cons of each item and prevented me from having to try on too many items. And the ones that she did give me ended up ALL being contenders too. While trying to decide what to buy she worked with me on my budget and even was willing to modify the return policy for me, as a special favor, because I was so uncomfortable committing. So now that I have fancy gear that I am vaguely comfortable in I guess I need to do more triathlons to make it worth it. read more

Ok, first I would like to say I am more incline to believe a 4 star review than a 5 star review. Save the 5 stars for the shop owner who pulls your baby from a flaming airline wreckage and still gives you 20% off your next purchase. That being said, this shop deserves 5 stars - but I have never had a baby so fair is fair :) Seriously though, this bicycle shop puts an emphasis on the individual and they will go the distance to make you happy and sell you a bike that fits your needs. I am a die hard do-it-yourself roadie, but I stopped buying bikes off the internet because I would rather support a local shop who gives back to the cycling community than buy from a soulless retailer. I went into ATC for the first time last weekend, and was pleasantly surprised by a) the selection of swim stuff and b) the helpfullness of the staff! I was shopping for a wetsuit, and had an unsuccessful run at a couple of other stores beforehand. The guys over there did a great job explaining fit and function of getting that darned thing on and off, and gave great advice on how all of it would/should fit. After I was done with that, I took a few minutes to check out the rest of their selection and was pleasantly surprised at all of the tri gear they had available. I'm not a jock. Not at all, and you can tell by looking at me. That being said, I like to swim. So when I need swim gear, I head over to Austin Tri. They have everything I need and no uppity attitude with me. The staff has always been super helpful when I've had questions about equipment and brands. In addition, they have an endless pool and workshops as well. If it's bike gear you need, they seem to have a lot. I don't know much about bikes, but I borrowed a friend's old bike when I thought I wanted to start riding and they did a tune-up for me for free and with absolutely no hassle or attitude (I think it was a Huffy). So all in all, I love these guys and will continue to go to them for all my athletic gear. All 2 ounces of it. read more

I was astonished by Austin Tri-Cyclist. Great great great. I went in there looking for a decent bike on a (relatively) modest budget and I told the guy what I was looking for and he asked my height and said, "I have JUST the bike for you." He showed it to me, I rode it around, I got some good tips on what to look for and all that, and I left pretty happy with thinking I'd get that bike. Well I went to some other shops around and the first I went to was helpful, but were like, "You know, if you only want to spend less than $1k on a bike, you really should get a used one." Holy moly! But yes, I shopped around a bit, and went back to buy the bike from these guys more just because I loved the shop. I loved the feel and the attitude that they have here. They threw in a water bottle and some little handle bar riser things (I'm a novice biker, I don't know the names of the parts yet) and fit the bike to me using their super swanky bike-fitting-setup (which is like a trainer with a video camera you can see yourself from the side in so they can show you what's wrong with your (stroke?), which was in my case, pretty much everything. But yes. I love these guys and am very happy with my decision to become a customer of theirs and I had a fantastic time riding my bicycle in to work this morning. However, a word to anyone thinking about starting to just bike in as their commute: first, get a large stick. Then, walk (or drive slowly, but walking is more practical for this task) along the route you're going to ride in. Every time you see a bump, try shoving the stick up your ass; this will let you know just what you're in for should you decide to go this route. It will make you a better person, to be sure, but it does have its downsides. read more

Tristan helped pack my bike for its inaugural flight to San Francisco and it arrived there in perfect shape. I came back to Austin and Chris cheerfully checked over my own clumsy attempts to put it back together without bursting into laughter at my sad bike mechanic skills. It's astounding to me that this place hasn't gotten a bad review. ATC is legendary among my friends for poor rude service. The first time I went in (against the advice of a friend of mine) I think it was the owner who helped me. He looked like Mick Jagger. Anyway, I had JUST started riding a bike and had gotten my first flat. So, I bought a tube and asked the guy if I could pay him the price of labor and he could show me how to replace my own tube. With a look so patronizing and condescending he said, "Just take out the old one and put the new one in. It's not that hard." Are you freaking kidding me? I told him I was new to cycling and had never done this, so he begrudgingly took me to the side and showed me how...making me feel like a degenerated idiot the entire time. I've got friends with stories from ATC just like this. Not long ago, I needed a new helmet so I figured I'd swallow my pride and give them one more chance because I want to support the local shops. This is when I encountered the most charming helpful lady of all time. She got me into the perfect helmet for a decent price. She's the only reason I gave this place one star. Therefore, I thought I'd bring my wife in because she had an issue with her bike. And what do you know, the dude (another shop worker) treated us like crap. Although I've only gone into ATC for repairs and tube purchases (which isn't a crime, is it?), you can be sure I won't darken their doors when it's time to look at new bikes. read more

Not a bunch of triathlon snots, like I have experienced before where once we got corrected for referring to a triathlon store as a bike store..excuse me for being improper..geez cut a newbie some slack...yes I am still a bit bitter. The owner is really nice, they do free bike fittings and have this camera on you so you can see your form and all that good stuff. Didn't get charged for the full tune up price, since they said my bike was in pretty good shape still. All you have to do is ask, and you'll get the best input available on wetsuits, tri gear, and bikes. All the staff at Austin Tricyclist has serious experience in triathlon and the owners have raced as elite and professional triathletes. One of the most refreshing things about ATC is that they're not fake - they tell you like it is without the fake smile and sugar coating. If you just want a wetsuit that keeps you afloat, they won't try and sell you the highest end most expensive fancy wetsuit (bike/whatever), but rather the one that suits your needs. Missy is in charge of wetsuits and can provide you help and advice on wetsuits, clothing, and of course bikes until your ears fall off. All the staff here is on top of their game in the bikes area. Additionally - the prices here are the best in town by FAR. They have a great Saturday morning ride that breaks into a number of packs as well - and at the end of the ride there are great tacos from Taco Deli. Partaking in this is one of the great Austin triathlon/cycling traditions! As an aside - Austin Tricyclist is a triathlon specialty shop - so keep that in mind when shopping here - you may not be able to buy a basket cage or training wheels for your bike at this store. read more

Austin is full of bike snobs, thankfully, the guys as Austin-Tri Cy are not. I first came upon this shop when I was bike riding with my best friend around downtown. After we had been riding for about 12 miles my handlebars became loose, which is really, really strange. Anyway, this was the first shop I came to and asked for a tool that I could use to tighten my handlebars. Without thinking or asking, they handed me the exact size tool I needed. I fixed my bike, went back inside, and every one was in back sitting down. I heard a voice, "Just leave the tool on the bench." "Thanks!" I yelled back. I thought it was cool that they trusted me enough to leave the tool and leave. As far as the shop goes, they have everything from biking shoes to new tires to new seats to socks, pants, shirts, helmets...the works. This is a one stop shop for a cyclist. read more

The staff at Austin Tri Cycles did a great job reassembling my bike after its first ever plane ride (from San Francisco), but more than that, they were just plain nice, relaxed, and extremely timely. Other bike shops unapologetically quoted me 10 days to 2.5 weeks to get my bike back. I'm fairly sure I could teach myself to build bikes off of YouTube videos, and then do it 20 times over, in that amount of time. ATC said they'd have it back to me in 5 days, and then had it done in 2.5 -- all significantly less than I'd been quoted elsewhere. I'll definitely be back for future bike needs! read more

Previously, I'd only been here to pick up race packets, but then it came time to get serious about spending a decent chunk of change on a new bike. To be honest, we probably would have bought the bike from them regardless because they had the one we wanted, unlike everyone else in town. However, the 5 star review is legit. Everyone that helped us was super chill but very helpful. They fit us on some bikes, and once we determined we liked them, they let us take them out for a ride. Not just around the parking lot or anything, but a real ride. Their only request was to be back before closing, so we rode about 8 miles to get a feel for it. Since we ended up buying 2 bikes and a bunch of accessories, they hooked us up with a sweet deal and threw in 2 t-shirts for free as well. I'm only just starting to get into triathlons and have been here a few times as a guest of my father-in-law who is an Ironman triathlete. Then, my experience was just browsing around and looking at the cool bikes and gear, but I never really needed anything. I came in two weeks ago to pick up a bike rack for my car, fit my bike to me, get some tri-shoes, and a few other odds and ends. Richard was incredibly helpful and even installed my rack for me--no questions asked. This service was above and beyond.
