I paid roughly $1,200 for this e-bike expecting durability and quality. Instead, after fewer than 40 hours of riding, the battery failed. For an e-bike, the battery is the core component. A failure this early is unacceptable at this price point. When I contacted customer service, I was told I would need to pay $599 for a replacement. That's nearly half the original purchase price to replace a battery that barely lasted. It's hard to justify that kind of replacement cost. Given standard retail markups in consumer products, pricing a replacement battery at almost 50% of the bike's retail cost raises serious questions about long-term ownership value. Assembly was also more difficult than it should have been. Instructions were unclear, and the process required more effort than expected for a direct-to-consumer brand positioning itself at a premium price point. Between the premature battery failure and the expensive replacement quote, this experience has been frustrating. At $1,200, customers should expect reliability and reasonable warranty support. This has been a very frustrating and disappointing experience with my ZUGO bike. In October 2022, after a month of researching e-bikes, there was a lot of positive reviews of the ZUGO bike, so I purchased the Rhino on sale for $1700, it was a floor model sale, which was advertised as "cosmetic issues only," stating there were minor scratches and that's it. Well, first off, when the bike was delivered it did have a couple minor scratches, nothing horrible, there was touch up paint sent with the bike, however the the paint they sent was in 2 nail polish bottles that were dried up. I didn't care, the scratches were small, and I thought if that was the only issue, I was ok with it. Well, I was wrong. Less than a week of having the bike it was shutting off on me while riding. I would hit a small bump and I would lose power. After contacting customer service, within 6 days of purchase they were sending me a new controller, which didn't fix the issue. About 3 weeks from that they sent me a new display with the keypad, which did not fix the issue. 2 days after that (almost 1 month after purchase), they were sending me a new battery. I rode the bike a few times within a week, and it seems to have been working well. Two months went by and I didn't ride the bike much due to weather (January and February) and a move. Come March, less than 5 months after purchase, less than 2 1/2 months since I thought the problem was solved, I started riding the bike more, and sure enough, the bike began to shut off on me again. I reached back out to ZUGO in March of 2023 only to find out the company shut down. I figured I was stuck with a lemon of a purchase, and because I spent $1700, I wasn't just going to throw it away, or sell it to someone else so they had to deal with. So I kept it and have been riding with this issue for over 2 and a half years. Some rides it'll work perfectly, and I think it's fixed, but then I'll go on a ride, and it'll shut off on me multiple times, including at night when I'm in the road near cars, when no power - no lights. So, it is kind of dangerous at times to ride this way. Fast forward to August of 2025, I learned ZUGO bike company is back up and running, so I reached out and they have since suggested the issue is with the controller, keypad, display, or battery, which I reminded them those are the parts they already replaced, which again did not fix it the first time. They said I should take it to their partner shop. They asked me to send photos and videos again of the parts they had already sent me, and I did, and they said it all looked good. ZUGO is a Texas based company, and I live in California, Costa Mesa/Newport Beach/Huntington Beach area, and one of their selling points was if there are issues with the bike they would send you to a bike shop in your area, well, they just suggested I go to their partner store 97 miles one way -2 hours- away from me. I don't have a truck to load the bike into nor the time to spend a whole day just driving to and from a bike shop, so I asked if there was another closer, and 2 weeks have gone by, and they haven't even reached out to me. I did send new photos of all the parts and cables they asked me to, to which they said everything looked good, so they asked me to check the voltage on this replacement battery by using a multimeter, which I don't have, and don't think I should have to buy to fix a bike that has had the same problem within a week of purchase and multiple parts replaced almost 3 years ago. And now, to top it off, the replacement battery I have been using is now shot. The charger is indicating a full charge with a green light, but the battery lights, once pressed, are not showing any level of charge. This has been a 3 year headache, and if problems arose after a year, it wouldn't bother me as much as it does that these issues started within weeks of purchase and couldn't be resolved because they shut down. So, when seeing ZUGO was back in business, I thought I would try, thinking they may want to rectify old accounts, but unfortunately, I've just been getting the runaround. Their ebike tour was absolutely awesome! Rooster was incredible, he made the trip very informative and fun taking me to lots of unique spots across the city you wouldn't usually think of visiting. He has a rich knowledge of the history behind different things and gives you a great understanding of the culture and history of the different places you visit during the tour. He was an incredible tour guide, making it very personal taking photos and having a great time showing me around throughout the tour. This is a follow up to my last post. Save you the long story but after several months of changing out parts , Zugo made arrangements for me to take the bike to an E- bike repair shop near me. The shop was was receptive to all the issues I had with the bike and I had tried changing out lots of things Zugo had recommended. It was comforting to find out they too could not figure out the issue and could not get the bike to operate correctly. I heard back from Zugo and they offered to replace the bike with a new one. So with that being said I do give them 3 stars for that and making the arrangements for the bike to get fixed. Just very frustrated over the amount of time that was wasted trying to fix something that was apparently unrepairable that was just a few months old. read more

On only the 2nd day of attempting to use my new bike, both the pedal-assist and throttle did not work and the display showed error code "08". Zugo's response was just to have me unplug and replug wires, take a bunch of pictures of the wires and parts, and then send new wires when the trouble-shooting didn't work. I replaced the old wires with new and the bike still doesn't work. I am not a bicycle technician and I shouldn't be expected to suddenly become one. I paid out-of-pocket for a third-party bicycle technician look at it and provide real answers and was told the issue was with the motor. I reported this to Zugo and their response was to be dismissive of the technician's findings and state that they do not have any spare motors to send and don't know when they will get new ones in stock. So are they just not going to make more bikes for the time being? My trying to get Zugo to abide by their product and warranty, as well as interacting with them is like someone going to seek medical attention for a deep gash, and just being given a needle, some thread and a printout of sewing instructions, then being sent home to do my own stiches. Please don't make the same expensive mistake I did. Stay clear of Zugo and go with a company that has the proffesionalism and resources to provide real support. read more

I only gave 1 star because I love thr color and shape of the bike other than that its a brand new lemon. I have spoken to other ZUGO oweners with like issues. I ordered a bike from this company in September of last year 2021. I paid it in full. When I recieved the bike and it was already defective. It was sold to me with a compromised connection. The part of the bike where the battery attaches came with 1 of the bars broken. So I would have to remove the battery and place it back in in order for it to function. Also the brake pads wore out in 3 months. I had to replace those out of pocket. When I spoke to the company they refused to take responsibility for the lack of quality delivered. The only reason ZUGO replaced parts on the bike that was still under warehouse was because I posted on Instagram and Facebook. Once I did that they fixed the bike. So. When the bike shop opened the bike up to make repairs they saw the wires had begun to melt. The battery I paid for extra was damaged by the defective connection. The company tried to get to put a $300 deposit down on the new battery. They did not trust that I would return the 1st one. I informed them that if I return the damaged battery I can not use the ZUGO to get to work. Mind you I paid around $3000 for this bike.. I do not live in the mountains. I live in a paved city and the bike was over heating.... The longest distance I ride it is 2 miles at a time. A bike that is expected to ride 60 miles no issue must not have melting wires or overhead. I do not use this bike for fun. I use it to get around to work. So I need a functioning bike that I paid for in full. I never wanted a refund. I just want the quality product promised. When the bike began to over heat I once again took it to the shop. The controller had to be replaced because it was overheating once again. The bike kept breaking down I kept contacting the company. The only reason repairs were done was because I posted the issues online. I ordered this bike to make my life better and it just added to issues. Im out $3000 and I can't even use the bike and now ride ubers I do not want to. One time I was stuck at one school a 3 miles from my next job. Another I used the bike to get to the gym. After an amazing workout I had to peddle this heavy framed bike home 3 miles away. Issue #1 faulty battery connection Issue #2 damages battery Issue # cheap break pads Issue # overheating wires melted Issue # controller replaced This compay blocked me once I posted what was happening. Thry also turned off comments. They are selling a product with cheap wiring for a high cost. I forgot to add. They did not take me seriously until I put my guy friend on the phone. Guess they didn't understand a woman. We had to threaten them with the BBB of New Jersey and the BBB of Texas. I do not wish the frustration and disappointment I have had with my 1st bike. I believe this company is just out to scam people. I was just trying to save $ on ubers and car expenses. I will never recommend this company. I have attached screen shots of dates of correspondence and images of faulty and cheap parts. Now the company wants to make it better... but how??? read more

The owners of this company also have an Airbnb in the same lot where my partner and I stayed as we visited Austin. Juls let us borrow the bikes during our stay and we were super pleased to explore the city on them! The battery lasted days and even though we rode them at full speed for most of the time and we didn't have to charge the batteries at all. The pedal assist, throttle, gears, & brakes were all easy to set and navigate. The quality of the bikes is superior to the commerical electric scooters I'm use to using around cities and highly recommend them if you're looking for something you can either ride for fun or long term. read more

First off I would like add the 1 bike is fun, noisy but fun. I purchased two bikes one for wife and other for me. The bikes arrived in damaged shipping boxes, both bikes came with torn seats, damaged rear rack, a chain which was completely off the sprockets and derairler, a kick stand that was too short to hold the bike up, ( apparently there are two sizes? Unknown why). The routing of cabling around the handle bars on 1 bike was a disater. There are many issues which would take a novel to write. The quality assurance of these bikes are a tossup. 1 bike came ok, the other was a complete lemon, however the absolute worse issue is the customer service. After 3 months of unable to ride 1 bike I still have not received the correct part. Trying to get a hold of someone is almost impossible, met with auto texts and emails. I have spoken to Norman and Darwin, and Tiffany over the last 3 months in absolute detail of the problem with no correct conclusion. The bike came with the 12 magnet sensor disc. After 3 months I received a sensor cable and a 3 inch cable? It is extremely frustrating to deal with zugo, for the price and market of ebikes I would STRONGLY advise to shop elsewhere. read more

I no longer TRUST this company! I ordered a bike and 2 months later was told I could not get the color I wanted (White) so I had to settle for a purple bike. When it arrived it made a terrible front end noise like the bearing were out, Zugo sent me new brakes to try to fix the problem. (they didn't) The service department doesn't listen to customers. Then while riding it I heard a loud CLICK and the bike went dead! I tried to re-charge the battery but bike still had no power. I checked the battery and it had power but the bike didn't. Zugo sent me a battery! Bike still has no power! Zugo agreed to replace the bike but never sent one. When I called them to follow up, they wanted me to try to fix the 1st one. I told them it was not the battery but they would not listen. I finally called my credit card company to dispute the charge, Now zugo refuses to refund my money, or send me a replacement bike unless I cancel the dispute. THe credit card company says if I cancel the dispute I can NOT dispute this card again if Zugo doesn't send a replacement bike ot refund me the money! I had emails promising that Zugo would do things and then they never do, so cancelling a dispute is not recommended so I am stuck in limbo until this is settled. Going on 6 months now! I hope no one else has problems with this company because I don't believe they care about their customers! SO BUYER BE WARE!! read more

We purchased 2, 2 Zugo bikes upon arrival we found both bikes had received similar damage to the wiring at rear motor, derailer mounting bracket and derailer guard. The exterior of the boxes were ok, the original packing was done poorly and is where it went wrong. After sending in pictures we were advised to use electrical taper on shielding that protects the wiring and prevents water from entering rear motor. This is definitely not the solution for a correct repair for a new set of bikes, at the cost of 5k. On the next email we stressed out frustration to t Zugo with no response from their end. I would recommend not recommend this company to anyone. BE VERY CAREFUL WHO YOU BUY FROM. read more

At first I was a little sketched out because they don't have many reviews and I found similar bikes on other websites that appeared to have more notoriety. However, I noticed that their offices are in Austin which is rather convenient considering I work downtown. I went in for a test drive, not knowing what to expect. I am SOO glad that I did! Upon arrival the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The test drive went great and I left with a commitment to buy. I hopped online and bought one as soon as I got home. I am pleased to say, I went in to pick up my bike today and it is freaking awesome! Thank you so much ZuGo! My bike has been defective for six months. Originally, they were trying to pin the issue on me. stating water had gotten in to the cables (this bike was never in the rain, and even if it had been, their website claims it is waterproof and for all terrains.) The wheel came without a socket stop on one side of the back wheel, and the cog was SIMPLY SO TIGHT during it's original construct that it didn't matter. The wheel had popped midride, and changing it required a power tool which ended up leaving a spotlight on the lack of the part on the one side. that part keeps the wheel from spinning off while motorized. They claimed it's impossible that happened, and I must have lost it, but I informed them I had photos - which I did. Nothing resolved this issue because due to it not originally being on the wheel, the frame where it sat was now warped and stripped from how tightly they screwed it on without one. immediately after that, the motor completely stopped working. Perfectly taken care of, charged every day, and nothing. No display, no power. finally after six months of refusing to pay, Klarna starts refusing to work with them or me, and Zugo finally agrees to send me a replacement bike. The bike shop was supposed to have it shipped and built by March 4th. It is now March 6th, 2023 and Zugo has completely shut down their emails, and their customer service line. Now I have no bike, AND no refund, and cannot get in touch. Do NOT work with this company! read more

The bike has some cool features and isn't too bad. The shocks are low quality and so is the motor control system. All in all it rides like a $800 ebike. The paint job also scratches very easily. The most annoying this is that the rim was not sized right for the tire. The tire keeps popping off. I've had Zugo send me multiple tires at this point and its completely useless. The issue is with the rim but they wont swap the rim out. read more

This company really knows how to build a proper e-bike. Their 4 piston hydraulic brakes, 7 speed Shimano shifter, throttle, 750w motor 21 Ah battery... I need not say more. Most fun I've had on an ebike ever! They also offer to build your bike for you when you're an Austin local and free tune ups at their shop. They're customer service is the best I've ever seen. First off I canceled the order for my bike. Some how the order went through anyway. I was told by customer service to open the bike. Later finding out that opening it voids the return policy. After opening the bike I come to find out that there are broken and missing pieces. The headlight, the super charger and alarm system are missing from the order. There are also broken parts. The reflector is snapped in half and there is something wrong with the battery. I called multiple times and no one will tell me what is wrong with my bike or where my broken and missing pieces are... I expect more for the price I paid. There are many better and cheaper options for your money. read more

Ok after try to fix the bike they decided to just ship me a new bike to a bike store so I can pick it up. So far no problem with it.

Ordered our bikes in April and finally canceled our order end of June. We were in contact with Zugo bikes beginning of June telling us they were putting the finishing touches on our bikes and they were shipping any minute but didn't have tracking information yet. Turns out they didn't have our bikes ready at all and pushed our shipping date out till mid or end August! They tell you 4-6 weeks for shipping but it really should be 4-6 months! Very disappointed in this company and they way they handled this situation. This was a total waste of our time and energy to never receive our product. read more
