For as passionate as I am about biking, I don't know as much about bike care as I should... so when I got a "new" vintage 1970s Schwinn Stardust, these guys took it from ok to good working order in only a few days for a good price. Their communication and attention to detail stood out. Next time my bike needs maintenance I'm going back! (Photo not taken at East Side Pedal Pushers, but this is the bike they got working for me.)

This place ROCKS!! The staff is super knowledgable, honest, and not tryna hustle you! Other bike shops were going to charge so much more than these guys to fix up my bike, but they did a quick and awesome job here, and I've been riding happily, without any problems since. :)

They helped tune up my 1988 Schwinn World Sport that I bought used a month before this post. Easy to communicate with the staff. They are friendly and knowledgeable. They got the job done quickly. I was incredibly surprised at the price. Much cheaper than I went in expecting. Will continue to return here.

I had a wonderful experience here. I won a bike at a Goodwill auction and took it here for some guidance. Everyone was very helpful, went over what they could do to tune it up and got me on the road in no time. The employees are friendly and the tune up was speedy. Highly recommend.

These guys are great! The first time I went in I met Brian, he cut to the chase and told me the bike I had recently purchased was abused and not worth the tune up or fixing. I knew it was a box bike but I didn't know how bad it was until I took it in. Anyhow on his recommendation I returned to the craigslist seller (miraculously) and purchased something else. Brian also offered to be the "inspection intermediately" between me and any bike I was considering buying. He said, "most sellers shouldn't have a problem meeting you here to have it looked over if it's a good bike." Then today (12/03/2010) I walked in to have a new tube put on my Trek road bike and got to meet James. He pointed out things that might need attention later, but didn't push me to do it the same day. Thanks for keeping me rolling guys.

I wasn't able to buy today but Chalo didn't make me feel bad about it and he answered my questions anyway without pushing products onto me.

It has been a while since I have been in a store where every store associate is super helpful and go out of their way to extend next level service. When I was an avid cyclist, Trek Bicycle was known as Austin's most dependable and all-around bike shop with a wide range of cyclist customers. I went into Trek for a two-fold purpose: 1) buy new bike shoes and 2) inquire regarding the status of my bike tires that have been seating in the garage for years (new tires or new tubes). When you walk into the store, you are met with a sea of bicycles...every color and style imaginable. Fortunately, I do not need a new bicycle because mine is in good shape. So, first, I inquire about my tires. The repair specialist was so super helpful, and he assured me that my tires might be ok. He suggested bringing the tires into the bike shop so he could inspect them. Next, I headed over to the bike shoe area, which is small but importantly they were having a sale. I snagged some $120 bike shoes for $30...score!!! Also, the sales associate offered to order me some insoles since they were out in my size. Super kind... The store sells a wide range of Trek bikes, including road, mountain, hybrid, and electric models, along with associated accessories and gear. The sales associates are top notch - super knowledgeable and not high-pressure sales folks. Also, the bike shop is known for its bike rentals, especially for visitors wanting to explore nearby Lady Bird Lake trail or nearby neighborhoods. Next visit tire inspection...

Absolutely no pressure in sales and when you're spending $2k on a bicycle you want to feel like you're not being pressured to buy but being helped to purchase the right bike for you. Can't recommend the team here enough! Post purchase I came back in to get some adjustments and advice and the team was more than willing to take time to help adjust seat height and hood angle to get the right comfort fit. I was cross shopping a Canyon brand bike but you just can't put a price on having a brick and mortar to turn to for post purchase support and service. Highly recommend this store and Trek!

Mellow Johnny's was cool, modern & bright. This full service bike shop has quite literally everything you need. My friend bought energy supplements for a non-cycling event. Additionally, the staff was polite & answered all of my questions. Mellow Johnny's has a nice selection of bikes for sale , apparel, & other supplies. They were sold out of the more common sizes on the discount rack. However, I was pleased with my purchase. Prices are in line with what I pay in the Washington DC area. I would've rented a bike & jumped on a group ride if I felt better. Welp until next time!!

I let the sales person know the model and size I wanted and let him know I was interested in accessories, as well. He was terse and seemed irritated I called as he informed me that it wouldn't arrive until October (this is June). {2020} I asked if I could get it any sooner or if I needed to preorder. He, in a very frustrated tone and manner, told me that I could call other stores around the country and see if they would be willing to ship it to me. I tried to explain that I was asking so that I could find out the procedure to buy and was trying to find out if I needed to pay for it in advance or pre-order it. After he let me know I wouldn't need to pre-pay; I started to ask another question with the intention of seeing if he had suggestions on other bikes that might work for me. When he interrupted me again with frustration in his voice, I hung up on him. Maybe he misunderstood the phrase "Keep Austin Weird" as "Keep Austin Wired". I'm guessing there are no commission sales. Either way, I'm pretty certain I can locate the model I am looking for elsewhere... Even if it's in October, another city, or an online retailer. Update: {2025} I ended up calling a store in San Marcos next. They were amazing and I ended up buying several bikes from them over the next 5 years, whil sending all my friends from Austin to them. I was talked into going to Mellow Johnnies a few months back to get some supplies to help a friend with his bike. At least they maintained some consistency, their service was terrible. Whether you are a noob or an experienced rider, I'd find another shop.
