My son son joined as a member. He told me he had free gun rentals and unlimited range time. As a result, we bought $350 in ammo for two rental guns we do not own for this one session as I live elsewhere. issues- Lots of unmet expectations and a huge lack of customer service. - NO free gun rentals - NO unlimited range time. My range where I am a member treat their members far better with unlimited range time even on weekends. This range wanted us out after 1 hour despite being a member and all the ammo we bought from them. - the rental gun did not cycle very well. It kept jamming. All they told us is they would fix it before re-renting it. Wasted lots of our time fixing uncycled rounds in a bad rental gun. NO FUN! - appealed to manager. He was far more interested in telling us we were wrong and explaining what their policies were with NO concern for us. NO grace on range time. NO refunds on ammo. We sure felt abused. - tried to appeal to owner. The manager said he would not help us as he does not work weekends. No help. None. This was my very first time shooting a gun and I honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience. I visited The Range at Austin while in town from California and went with my girlfriend. We had an amazing time and most importantly, we felt completely safe the entire way through. Our instructor Jamie was outstanding. He took the time to show me everything I needed to know and made sure I was confident and comfortable before even stepping up to the range. His instruction was clear, patient, and really helped make the whole experience fun. If you're looking for a great way to spend part of your day and want a perfect introduction to shooting, especially if you're trying out a Glock 17 like I did, I couldn't recommend The Range more. I absolutely LOVE this place! I drive from NB to this location to get my target practice in twice a month at a minimum. We have the VIP membership so we have private access to our section and it's always a great experience and never crowded. They have complimentary drinks for patrons and they have free gun rental. Again, this is for VIP membership. Not too sure how it all works downstairs. If you're ever wanting to visit an amazing range, I'd recommend this location. read more

The Range was a great experience! Some of my friends and I have never shot a gun, so we did the pistol introduction experience. They had a variety of other intro packages, and more experienced shooters could go straight to renting out a lane. Our instructor was amazing, and helped me feel less intimidated by the gun shooting experience. He led us to a small classroom to go over the basics and rules, and answered so many of our questions! Once we were ready, we picked out our targets and headed to the lanes. We got to try out two different types of handguns, and the package included 2 magazines per person. Sometimes the gun would get stuck, but our instructor was always there to help us continue safely, and even gave tips on how to correct our aim based on the patterns he was seeing. Definitely a worthwhile experience, and the instructors and staff are so helpful. read more

I'm done with this place. It's clear they cater to first-timers chasing the full-auto experience. Every visit ends in a three-hour wait (including today, I walked out, which I do more frequently than shooting here). The range is packed with beginners, and serious shooters will find it unbearable. They keep pushing memberships, but why would anyone sign up when the experience for non-members is so bad? If they treated walk-ins better, they might actually gain long-term members. Instead, everything feels rushed, overpriced, and chaotic. Guns and transfer fees are steep, and traffic getting in and out is a mess since it's right off I-35 with horrendous construction traffic at all hours of the day. They've made their choice of clientele, and it's not experienced shooters. read more

I purchased the Pistol Introduction Package for my girlfriend, who was a brand new shooter, and would highly NOT recommend. While I did not shoot, I was present the whole time watching from a distance and accompanying her throughout. I had high expectations as someone who recently gotten their LTC and had seen all of the good reviews about The Range at Austin. The safety and handling instructions were extremely rushed and there was no opportunity for her to handle the firearm unloaded, such as practicing her grip, stance, or how to unload a magazine before heading to the range. Once at the range, the instructor did not provide any real assistance as she tried to shoot for the first time and seemed to expect that she had absorbed everything in such a short period of time. My partner even asked if she could wear the safety goggles over her glasses, but he dismissed her question. This was very unprofessional and hazardous, and numerous times he gave very little assistance when she had questions. Her last shot proved the necessity of wearing safety goggles - a spent cartridge unfortunately hit her in the eye. Afterwards, he immediately asked us to leave without a clear explanation and just walked off. The fact that I had to chase down the instructor to understand what had happened was completely unacceptable. This accident could have been entirely avoided with a different, calmer, and more patient instructor who didn't seem like he wanted to get the lesson over with as fast as possible along with proper safety training. What I expected to be an hour-lesson of education and fun ended up being an in and out experience of just 25 minutes and my upset girlfriend ended up deciding that she never wants to touch a firearm again. I can't say I blame her. I would definitely encourage first time shooters to reconsider their visit to the Range at Austin if you are looking to try shooting for the first time. This experience was made way more intimidating, unfriendly, and dangerous than I have ever witnessed. read more

Was in Austin for a business trip coming from California. Wanted to shoot some guns so went ahead and booked the "Test Flight" package to try out some handguns, which was priced super well for what it included (coming from California pricing). When walking in, everyone was super helpful in getting me checked in and ready. I can't say enough good things about my instructor Jacob. He was incredibly helpful and patient when helping me choose what 3 guns I wanted to shoot. He took his time to show me different ones and when I decided what to go with, he gave me a super helpful safety briefing before going out to the lane. At the lane, Jacob helped every step of the way with any questions and helped me understand what to do and how to do it correctly without a hitch. He also made great conversation and was awesome to talk to and learn from. The whole experience was super cool and I wanna thank Jacob for making that happen! read more

Certainly location and convenience could be some of the reasons why you'd come here to either get you in a lane for practice or learn how you need to be able to confidently navigate in a lane and/or with firearms in general. The Range is a safe place you can come to and learn all about firearm safety. You can even bring in a group of friends/party/family as the wait areas and lanes are large/wide enough to gather around. This is my first indoor gun range I have ever been to and I am comfortable here. Transparently I took firearm 101 classes on the other side of Austin but I have seen many groups come in and learn together and be able to explore different types of firearms within 2-3 hours of a class. From my observation all of the staff are professional, clear, and "take care" of you whether you're a seasoned / frequent visitor or a newbie. I have been very happy with the level of attention we experienced here even with the gunsmith/service-level of services here. Another worth of mentioning is the no-pressure approach for continued membership here. You can be a member as often, as long, or as on/off as you want to be without additional fees or hassles. Perks of being a member includes expedited time to get a lane (jump the line), preschedule appointments/reservations, and I believe discounts on certain items in their shop. Pricing is super reasonable too so it's a win/win. Check out their classes too - they are all priced well and there are group classes, 1:1s, and even certified offerings. Visibility on the status or where you are on the queue is super appreciated and also being displayed in the showroom areas. QR codes can be found on the screens, at the front counter, and in the waiting room on information on classes, events, and all other offerings they have here. As a female I feel comfortable here each and every time I visit. The waiting area is friendly and wifi is fast for what it is worth. From the parking lot to the advice provided when being curious/exploring their inventory I know I am around experts and staff who care about informing me with their best advice and guidance. Signed up for a class having never held a pistol before. As it was an introduction package I assumed they would begin with safety, awareness, etc. No such thing. I was in and out in ten minutes. I never thought I would ever shoot a gun in my life....but it happened, haha! I came out here with someone who was visiting me in Austin, and I signed us up for the AR-15 package. Yes, from not touching a gun to shooting with an assault rifle... But the thing about The Range is that everything is handled with maturity and responsibility from start to finish. With any of the packages, a staff member is assigned to you to explain safety protocol. You are taken to a room in the back where they explain how to handle the gun (safely!) and how they will help to make sure you are safe the entire time. After this chat, I felt confident going into the range. You are given goggles and ear protection prior to entering the range. With the AR-15 package, you are given the opportunity to shoot 30 pistols twice. For the "real" experience, the staff person assigned to us recommended we shoot two singles and then the rest all in one go. It was definitely quite the experience! Just feeling the rifle in my arms (not even hands, lol) put things into perspective for me. Guns and handling guns are sensitive topics in general, but I do believe that it is important to not let fear prevent you from going through the experience in a safe environment. I've been looking for an indoor range since moving to Texas last year. When I started my application for a carry license, I discovered I could take the classroom portion of the required training online and take the proficiency exam at The Range. My first visit was on a weekday afternoon to do some tuning up as I hadn't been a regular shooter for a couple years. The first thing that struck me is how immaculate and spacious this place is. The Range has a decent selection of ammo and accessories, even snacks, and you can rent a weapon from their large selection if you don't bring your own firearm. Staff is super helpful and friendly and take time to explain the services available. There were plenty of lanes open so I did not have to wait to get on the line. The ventilation system does a great job keeping the air clean; I could barely detect the scent of powder. My old eyes also appreciated the excellent lighting. The range officer monitored the shooters to ensure safety and also assisted with questions. After my visit I realized that I need to get regular practice sessions in so I signed up for a membership which, if you shoot at least a couple times a month, is well worth the price as you can reserve a lane in advance and also take advantage of members-only hours. There are also many classes here with an emphasis on personalized instruction. They also have a "shooting dojo" where you can practice with fellow shooters at your particular skill level in a comfortable environment. For those of you with a significant other that hasn't shot before or doesn't like guns, this venue is awesome for introducing them to the shooting sports. Many people don't understand firearms and even fear them, and you'd be surprised how a little education and experience can change their perspective. Years ago, my dad and I would take one of his work buddies out to our range. The buddy came with us because his then girlfriend would not go because she "hated guns." One fall weekend, the buddy convinced the girlfriend to come along with us and watch. When she got there, the sour facial expression, unhappiness in her eyes and standoffish body language did not bode well, so my dad took her aside to talk to her a little bit and break the ice. He convinced her to give shooting a try and gave her basic firearm safety instruction and then set her up at the bench with a Ruger Mark II, an accurate, easy-to-shoot, non-threatening .22 pistol. We all quickly discovered she was an excellent shot and by the time we were done, she was completely enthralled and practically petting the pistol having mastered it. She is now a very accomplished target shooter and became the wife of the buddy. Both the buddy and she having retired since then, they have another shared interest and can enjoy participating together. The Range will be getting my shooting dollars from now on. I'm an experienced shooter who has not shot in many years. I had never been to The Range, but the website made it look nice. I decided to get time with an instructor to give me a tour and familiarize myself with The Range and see if I wanted to become a member. I also wanted to work with a professional to 'knock the rust off.' I was paired with Thomas Tsui, and he was very professional, patient, and a good listener (thank you, Thomas!). He was also more than happy to show me around. Overall, it was a great first experience. While The Range might be slightly more pricey than other Austin ranges, it is worth the extra cost. This place is very big and well-kept. I've been to many ranges all over the United States over the past 50 years, and this is a top-three range, IMO. They are also quite innovative, which is odd to say about a shooting range. They have a 'shooting dojo', which is a martial arts-like approach to helping you improve your shooting. And we're not talking about standing in a lane and shooting paper. They have basic 'belts' for beginners and more advanced belts where you can have advanced training opportunities, both through exercises and scenario-based situations. The most advanced belt even offers chances to improve your skill on and off-site. If you're a beginner and want to learn about firearms, how to handle them safely, and how to shoot them properly, this is the place for you. If you're an experienced shooter wanting to improve or maintain your shooting skills, they also have something to offer you. Signing up for a membership was a no-brainer for me. If you're a frequent shooter, the cost of the membership pays for itself as you get discounts and preferred access. Had a Great time at The Range Austin!! Even if you don't know a lot about guns or whatever, the staff is very professional and friendly and will help you along the way from start to finish! They have weekly specials to definitely pay attention to that. Such as Tues: 2 for 1, Wed: Ladies Night, Thurs: Service Night, & Fri: Date Night. We didn't go on a special day but it doesn't matter it didn't take away from the exhilaration and good time! Even if you don't want to shoot guns but want to be there to support those who do, you can sit outside the shooting area and look through the glass which is by the way soundproof for the most part. Even if you're curious. You should go and check it out. Prices are fair. You can bring your own ammo and your own gear to include weapons if you want. they treat members like garbage. an example, I was kicked off the lane after an hour, even though there were 5 lanes open and no one waiting. they just stuck to the rule of 1 hour and off; btw this "rule" is not posted in the store or on the web site, nor mentioned during membership applicatio. they said shoot all you want by becoming a member. what a lie. and what a stupid rule to enforce when there's no one waiting on a lane. The facility is super nice. The operation pushes hard on membership. I get it regular attendees should get priority. The membership price is not unreasonable if you are going to use it. The low score is due to the gunsmith. I have so say is stay away. Late December, I spotted a red dot on sale. (10%) . I should have taken it right then. Sometimes, getting someone's attention can be challenging. I hesitated and spent about an hour doing research, I came back and the sight had been sold. I found the sight from a different source who would honor the original sales price. I installed the sight myself. The Range's website mentioned that offered sight adjustment services,etc and mentioned one price for equipment bought there and a different price for other equipment. I decided to give them a chance. Early January (3 or so), I arranged to have the sights adjusted(pretty easy). Yesterday March 16, I picked up my pistol, because they had not even looked at it. After 9 weeks, the gunsmith made no effort to contact me and had not even looked at the task. They are either having a real labor problem which is not good if you want someone to work with your guns, or they just decided they did not want to service my pistol. Either way they did not make any effort to contact me for 9-10 weeks that they had the pistol, I was promissed a 2 week turnaround. The range itself is pretty nice. I would stay away for the gunsmith. I bought some earphones, a small safe, an equipment bag from them. I bought the pistol before the Range was even open. read more

I was so excited to shoot my first pistol my husband bought for me. We heard about this place and decided to go check it out. Well we were early to arrive and just sat. We constantly saw people who came after us going in but we were wait listed. After 30 minutes or so. We started noticing that if you were a member, you got to go in before the other people who arrived before you. This was not explained to us. We spoke to four different employees for the range and none of them explained this to us. How can I be a member if I can't experience what I'm gonna pay for. Came in with a group of 12 at the drop of a hat, and they got us set up with a package that made sense and turned out to be very affordable considering we came in last minute and had so many people. Jonah and Andrew especially made it seamless and painless, major shout out to them! Give those men a raise. All in all, 10/10 experience. Came in a first timer, left as a member. Have taken classes here. Instruction by Marcus was top notch. Have purchased pistols here and service was excellent. Have spent time here honing my skills, and the experience has been great. Lane rentals are $29 per hour, which puts it on the higher price end for the Austin area. There is a beautiful VIP members area with cigars, conference room, sodas, and private lanes. I had such a great experience at The Range. It was my first experience with shooting and this facility made it super easy. We went with a friend who has membership here, so the process was quick and easy. It's a very nice place, clean, and helpful staff. If you have never shot before or don't own a gun, you can rent a hand gun for $15 and a riffle for $20, a lane for $29/person, and will have to pay for a lesson with an instructor there. Decided to take the fam here for a birthday celebration. Everyone was friendly and welcoming throughout our entire visit. We pre-purchased one of the packages for four plus one and once we arrived, we headed straight to get our 9mm and a carbine. Daniel was our designated wingman for the night and once everything was good to go, we completed our safety training, and then were on our way to the lanes. Daniel absolutely ROCKED! I've been shooting before but I was hesitant on the carbine for whatever reason. He finally convinced me to take a go at it and I loved it. Our baby girl had never shot anything before so we also rented a .22 so she could get used to it. Before we knew it she was going through everything! For five people, we had plenty of rounds to go through and again, Daniel was patient, thoroughly knowledgeable, and completely friendly throughout our experience. He even offered to take pics of us after we were done. We made sure to Zelle him a tip afterwards as well! ;) All staff was great and the entire place was well kept. Revisited The Range on a Tuesday afternoon in the hopes of a better experience. While check in was less hectic and the facilities itself is always nice...YET AGAIN the range officers are on their phones sitting in a chair heads down not paying attention to shooters. This is the only gun range in a host of gun ranges I've been to in Texas that the range officers exhibit such a lack of professionalism. BOTH were on their phones heads down not even pretending to overlook shooting. Why have range officers at all if they're allowed to sit in a chair on their phone and not monitor live shooting? I stand by my previous review after giving this place another try that the range officer's lack of awareness and disregard for safety will potentially lead to an accident. The management or ownership needs to have a serious discussion with their ROs about what their job and responsibility is...sitting on a phone scrolling on social media is not one of them. read more

The facility was really nice and they supplied all of the equipment you need to have a good time (earbuds/earmuffs, protective goggles, firearms, bullets, etc.) and there is plenty of staff on hand to assist people. The only feedback I have is that the instruction was a bit rushed... It ended up not being a big deal since our group was ultimately able to figure things out but given the activity, I feel like a more hands-on approach is merited (especially since our group was pretty vocal about the fact that it had been many, many years since any of us has handled firearms). I go on a Saturday afternoon. Nobody there. Sign up to use the range and told it's a 45 min wait. I go to wait and see that 5 of the ~20 lanes are being used. I ask the desk worker why I'm waiting. He says we hold those lanes in case someone with a membership comes in. I said there's 5 people shooting and 5 waiting outside to go in. He shrugged his shoulders. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Staying in austin for vacation (from Houston) and decided to go to the range, and was not disappointed! Went early in the morning no wait got us checked in for a lane right away. The facility is super nice (the nicest range I've been to) and well kept. I brought my girlfriend who is a first time shooter and she enjoyed it. Brought my own handgun and ammo but they do have rental options. Pricing itself is a little on the expensive side, but worth it since you get to be in an amazing facility.
