After years of shooting a wide variety of firearms, I recently attained my LTC and wanted to…read morereceive some formal pistol training to improve my skills and overall competence with with my everyday carry pistol. Overall, this was an amazing experience which has significantly challenged and enhanced my skills. I can't wait to practice what we learned again at the range, as well progress with additional courses they offer. This is no weekend warrior shit. These guys are seasoned professionals who can coach you if your smart enough to close your mouth, and open your ears. Here is more details... I found Texas tactical Training institute on YELP, and while they had no reviews, their information and photos intrigued me to make a call and have an initial discussion. I spoke with Tim over the phone for more than 20 minutes, explaining what I was looking for and what he could recommend. He explained he was a former police officer who was now focussed on offering firearm training experiences for people of all skill levels, at a price that didn't scare people away. Within minutes you could feel his passion coming through the phone, and i was eager to get something scheduled. I shared the idea with a friend and we signed up for a 4-hour 'Intro to movement - pistol' class for the upcoming weekend. We were excited at the idea of receiving some training to improve our skills, but unsure what two 'seasoned' gun owners would be able to learn in just 4 hours. A few days ahead of the training day, we received instructions by email of where to meet the course instructor, and what to bring with us. On the day itself, it was unusually cold...39 degrees in April cold. This elevated the training to a new level, as we were both not prepared or used to shooting in such cold climate. When our hands were not tucked deep into our pockets in a effort to once again feel our fingers, our hands were a little shaky when shooting (or at least that was my excuse on the day.. he he). We started with a short yet descriptive safety brief, and jumped straight into some dry-fire exercises of turning 90 degrees and firing on the 'threat'. That is the word Instructor Dustin used when telling us to engage the target... "Threat". At that moment you would turn the 90 degrees, or 180 degrees, or start moving and shooting from various positions indicated by black circles of spray paint in the dirt that had just been created by Dustin and his his fellow Instructor Brian. Over the course of 4 hours we were introduced to various shooting exercises involving moving and shooting. My favorite phrase of the day (aside from "threat", which meant you were being told to engage the target), was "Push, Plant, Pull", which described your movements from one position to another. The push and planting refers to your feet, and the pull... well you can guess what that is for. We continued learning and practicing through the bitter 39 degree weather, breaking only for a few minutes here and there to return to the truck in an attempt to warm up and feel our fingers again. Dustin was an exceptional coach. He would watch you follow his instructions and offer specific minor changes to your body position, feet position, pistol grip, the elevation of my hands in relation to my eyes, and other small tweaks. All of which felt a little uncomfortable at first, kind of like I was shooting for the first time. However, this was a strong introduction to a new understanding that all my previous experience shooting was from a static position with no accountability of each round pushed through a paper target. I strongly recommend this training to firearm owners of all ages and skill levels. I also strongly recommend the 'intro to movement - pistol' course to anyone with a LTC, or someone looking to improve their skills.

He also helped my wife find a pistol that better fit her hands. It was my wifes first time shooting a rifle and by the end of class she was able to hit a target at 300 yards. We would recommend this training center to our friends and family, we will be taking classes here again.

Moreover, the laws have changed quite a bit. Our instructor, Lou, was very enlightening, informing and entertaining. The class was well organized and researched. He was able to identify and correct several issues. Arthritis in my right thumb was affecting my aim so I switched to a smaller caliber thanks to him. Lou was very patient and knows his material. While safety was always #1, he also covered care, cleaning and storage of firearms. We were quite comfortable with the training and passed our License to Carry with high marks. My sister and I both highly recommend Lou as an instructor and we plan to work with him on accuracy/marksmanship.

I'm taking the online course to excuse a speeding ticket. I expected it to be funnier and more…read moreentertaining, with demonstrative skits by a comedy troupe. It's just a very animated woman, Megan, in front of a green screen who matter-of-factly speaks about safe driving procedures and presents a few dated (besides one about texting) short films from different sources. The course is very informative and makes me rethink some of my driving habits. I just thought it was going to be more fun and engaging to watch. It took me 3 days to take the course, but that's just because I didn't have a lot of time to do it until the weekend. I got through chapters 3-9 in a few hours on a Saturday, so can definitely get it done in a day if you have about 6-8 hours free. After watching all the videos, you have to make over 70% correct answers on an untimed 20 question comprehensive quiz to pass the course. You can log out and in during the quiz. You have 3 chances to pass the quiz. If you fail after 3 chances, you have to reorder and retake the entire course. The quiz questions are pretty common sense questions, but you have time to research it if you can't remember or don't know. Make sure to read everything carefully, including the answers. I answered too quick on one and got it wrong because answer D was "Both answer A and B." The course is very thorough and informative, but it's also boring at times and I find myself zoning out and then getting surprised and flustered when a question comes up. I fell asleep during a 20 minute video 2 times and had to rewatch. If your computer shuts off for some reason you have to rewatch the entire video over. I don't like how some videos are split in two, but I guess that helps with the having to rewatch the entire video problem. There's 9 chapters with varied subtopics. In every chapter there's a timed surprise question to validate your identity. It's handy to have your insurance info, vin number, license, and registration info nearby for when these questions come up. If you miss 4 answers you're locked out. After every film there's an easy untimed question about what it was about. As far as the humor, it's pretty tame and at times annoying because I'm totally aware of how flat the jokes are and how they're eating up time when we could just be getting on with the program. Instead of incorporating humor into the lectures, the instructor goes off on unrelated trying-too-hard tangents and then some uptight angry man off screen yells at her. It's not my taste of humor. Maybe others find it funny, but I think they could have thought up a more effective and funny way to present the course. The one thing I did find funny was her pronunciation of "rural." I do think she's a good speaker, though. I'd probably appreciate her approach a lot more if I didn't come in to this expecting the course to be funny. I will admit I am a snob when it comes to what makes me laugh. (My ideal hosts for this course would have been equivalent to the Kids in the Hall, or the cast from The IT Crowd.) Despite the lack of funny jokes, the course got the job done for just $25 (minimum amount by Texas law to be accepted for a driver safety course) so I guess that's the most I can ask for.

I took the online course. It was terrible. I get it, defensive driving is not supposed to be fun…read more But this is the opposite of fun. The presenter/narrator is desperately trying to get a laugh but failing, and the off screen director is not helping by constantly berating her for basically being stupid. So it's not only just really bad, but also misogynistic.
