Always my #1 recommendation for a gun range. They have great prices - the range fee covers the whole day, however long you'd like to stay. Unlike other places that only allow 45mins to an hour. They have firearms for rent and for sale. It's FAMILY OWNED, and takes good care of their employees. It's also a woman owned business - I always love that. They have a shotgun range, a .22 steel target range, pistol range, a rifle range, and a private shooting bay that you can rent if you have a small party of friends or want to do some private training/lessons there. My fellow Army veteran buddy and I came here to qualify for our LTC. Our instructor Cecil was totally professional and encouraging. My buddy and I qualified first time go. So that was satisfying. They provided the instructions on everything and discussed safety in detail. In my opinion the staff were totally professional ans made sure safety was a priority. Unexpectedingly welcoming. Came in as two out-of-towners to get a full Texan experience. We were two black girls from up north. Not the target audience for these types of facilities, but we were not met with any unkind comments or behavior. Everyone was helpful and informative. It is user operated. No machines. No tools. Just employees at the case in the trainer and other customers in the range. There isn't anyone out in the range. Don't come expecting a typical range. You load yourself. I came from NYC with 3 buddies to rent a few guns and have a fun afternoon. We've only shot once or twice before, so we definitely aren't experts. Everyone at the front desk was extremely helpful and friendly, and explained all the rules and processes very clearly. We felt very confident about going to the range and doing our own thing, but the staff can be as hands off or as hands-on as you want them to be. The patrons there were also very friendly and took safety very seriously. The range is well maintained and they have a ton of guns to rent. Sooooo I found I love shooting guns and was good at it especially, I love the big long range guns or riffles with scope. Bang! I hit the target! Loved it! We stayed in Texas with some friends. We went here in the heat for a several hours to practice. I recommend to purchase sound proof headphones to minimize the sound of the gun fire sounds. There were plenty of outdoor parking. Inside you need to register and sign the waiver and rules. Good thing we already hand plenty of guns to practice with as well as bullets. I would not want to rent their guns. Man, I actually envy the Texans as they have no limit to the amount of bullets to purchase in Texas. There are different sections in the range to use for different size guns. Also, its all about courtesy with other shooters and when to stop when told. I will be back here or another to shoot some guns. I always have great experiences here and most of the staff is excellent and friendly. The folks who take our money and have us read rules are always really cool and I rather enjoy speaking to them and I love their dog. Later in the day during our adventure.... One of my party had a bit of a brain fart and began to shoot while in the standing position which, yes it is one of the rules we all agreed to follow. Mistakes happen some times. But it was not an unsafe act and it was not a safety issue as far as what I could see. Nobody meant to be any trouble....yes that was our bad. But This prompted an employee, who I'm guessing was the RSO, to aggressively walk up quick fast and in a hurry, all pissed off with steam comin out his ears and angrily shout at us "cease fire on the range!" Ok....... I mean, you'd think that we were all pointing our weapons at eachother or shooting into the air or being really stupid..... like that dude was freakin mad. Like had the anger veins poppin out of his forehead... like, way more mad than he shoulda been. He proceeds to angrily grill me about why HE was watching us stand and shoot through his camera. He treated me personally, a grown man, like a child, when it wasn't even me that stood up to shoot. He yells at us that this is our last warning or he would kick us out...... and then tops it off with an angry, "be blessed"..... gee.... Thanks buddy. We didn't argue or anything. We acknowledged and moved on. But I didn't appreciate the way that dude acted. A simple reminder of "Hey, we have rules, you agreed to them, don't stand and shoot at the 100 yard range, thank you" would have sufficed and would have corrected the issue. It was a missed opportunity to be tactful and not be disrespectful to your customers. Like I said..... it was a breached rule on our part. Our fault. But it wasn't a safety violation, nobody was in danger, nobody was missing their targets.... Dude just wanted to let us have it. And I don't think it was an acceptable way to treat paying customers. I usually have a great time here at this range. I appreciate the big boy rules and usually have a great experience here. read more

Great range overall (maybe my 4th visit) but there are no safety staff monitoring the actual shooting lanes on any of their ranges. Went on a busy day (Sunday) and novice shooters were waving around loaded guns like they were toys. Get some staff outside or someone is going to get seriously injured / killed here. read more

Negative stars. My family went to this range for my son's birthday in May and had a wonderful experience. We decided to take my recently widowed mother in law to buy a gun there when she came for a visit a month later. There were different people working there this time. The man spoke to me horribly, completely humiliating me for asking as question when his job is to answer questions about guns. I was so upset that I left from heart problem. He preceded to spend the next hour spouting crazy statistics to my mother in law and terrified her. Now she will not go near a gun and refuses to own one. This is NOT a person who should be working with the public and teaching people, especially women as he seems to have a personal problem with them and veterans. These veterans will NOT be returning to a place where we were treating with SUCH thorough disrespect. Shame on Will and those who keep him hired on there. read more

Great outdoor range, "user operated" as the staff called it. There are no RSOs patrolling the bays, but staff will attend to new shooters if requested. They also ensure that shooters understand their rules right when you get there. Range time per person is $23, which is very reasonable compared to other spots in the Austin metro area. They have a designated rifle range where you can shoot up to 100 yds, a designated hand gun range, and a rifle/handgun range for close quarters shooting. Permitted ammo types are also much more broad than a majority of the indoor ranges in the area and rapid fire is allowed. Highly recommend Lone Star Gun Range and I will surely be a repeat customer! read more

overprice if you go, make sure you take your earplugs because if not, they're gonna sell you some foamy ones for two dollars that you're gonna throw away. if you shoot with an A.R. the sluts where you're going to shoot have a very low overhang so either you have to squat or lay on the the table or the ground totally uncomfortable. It has clays, plinking, handgun and rifle ranges. Entry as of 11/2023 is $25 to use any and all ranges. So far every employee I've met here has been friendly and helpful, some of the customers are obnoxious in some ways that I don't know is completely fair to criticize them about (I don't know every bit of minutiae as it pertains to gun range etiquette), but I will anyway: why do some people with scoped out large caliber rifles insist on shooting on the lanes that are better suited to handguns? Beats me. I assumed it was just because they're shitty shots or they just are totally inconsiderate but I could be wrong. There may very well be a totally practical reason that I'm missing, but it's still a bit obnoxious. Employees are pretty hands-off for the most part, though there's always at least one patrolling the area. If you're a total novice this is probably not the place for you unless you have someone with you who will be up your ass about safety and etiquette. It's not what I would call "unsafe", but compared to an indoor range it's a bit more casual. They assume you know what the fuck you're doing is what I'm trying to say. No one is going to be up your ass about getting your shit together unless it's another patron, or unless you're doing something so egregiously stupid that it gets noticed by the employees. Don't be that fucking guy. Easy drive here, just off 183. As far as I know this is the only range with plinking in the area and it's close enough to downtown Lockhart to make a trip to Smitty's a No brainer. read more

Took my family here for a family range day and the staff is extreme , over the top , and not very nice .. they made it real uncomfortable for our family to be here and enjoy ourself .. staff was just being really extra !! I enjoy shooting outdoors but not sure if I'm guna be returning to this particular range .. When I say extra I'm meaning that employees are rude !!! Love how the owner is the same way .. we are all for everyone safety but you can tell that the owner themselves is rude and don't know how to talk to customers at all by the remark they replied .. this is how you will be treated if you come to this range !!! Loved this range. Came here with my gf the other day and had a great time. The guys inside were polite and helpful. We went over their safety rules and they got us started straight away. Rented a flock and an ak. Got 100 rounds for the rifle and 125 for the glock. They provided ear and eye pro for us. After we grabbed a couple of targets and added it up, All together it was 200& . Not bad. They ensured our safety without babysitting us like some ranges like to do. Everyone I met at the range was safe and friendly. Her and I had a great time shooting. There are plenty of good ranges around (and I've been to most of them) if you just want to shoot with friends and have a good time. However, if you want to train for scenarios where your life depends on your skill set it's pretty slim pickins. That's why I was happy to find this range where you can train more realistically, particularly if you rent the tactical bay. Rudest staff we've experienced at a range. During a ceasefire, we were lightly jogging to change our targets as to not hold the other shooters up. Was told "STOP RUNNING! What the hell is wrong with you?!" Then on clays, staff is required to load for us. They move super slow and generally give you an annoyed vibe that you are making them work. $10 for labor each load... move a little or higher younger people that aren't jaded by life. Forgot about us on the 2nd load. Can't holster your sidearm so forget related drills there read more
