Great place to get away and nice location. After reading the negative reviews from peeps. I'm known for not having a filter. sooo, The guy with the I.D. problem. That's your biggest complaint? Every range indoor or outdoor takes your I.D. Keep in mind. You're not that important to to worry about your I.D. And the rest who've had issues before. Those seem to be years ago. Would not sell guns to military member. If I could give zero stars I would. I went in today to pick up and pay for an Alpha Foxtrot S15 that I had ordered WEEKS ago (separate story below). Only to find out, the manager (not sure if that's who he was, he never actually gave us his name), refused the sale to me because he had "never seen anything that looked like that [my official Air Force orders] before" and he "doesn't know any of those people on there [the names of the people from AFPC who approved and authorized my orders]". Mind you, I also had my Texas drivers license from when I lived here in 2020 as well as my CAC to verify my identity, on top of those orders. I blacked out information on it such as my security clearance and my husband's and my SSNs because they wanted to keep their own copy. Which, I have no issue with normally, but I have no idea how they store this information and paperwork and there was no way I was going to have that information sitting out for people to look up and find. I understand they have a right to refuse sales, but he was completely unfriendly and unhelpful and could not give us a real answer as to why he would not sell me the gun except for the aforementioned. My orders are an official AF F899 CAO 2022, and updated 2 weeks ago when I PCS'ed to the area. The second part of the story: when my husband I first ordered the pistol, they said it would be in within the week. When it wasn't, we called on and off for the weeks following to check the status of the order, and received the same response, that it should be in the next day or so. I grew tired of it so I called Alpha Foxtrot myself to get tracking information. They informed me that the order had just been placed THAT DAY that I had called, and that they'd get it shipped out ASAP. Lo and behold, it arrived 4 days later and that's when my husband and I went to pick it up. I cannot recommend this place to any service member or anyone else. He basically said he thought I was faking my orders, and that he didn't trust us nor my official document, regardless of showing them 2 forms of ID previously. We are subsequently cancelling our membership and will never go back. read more

Had a few ranges to pick from in our short stay in Texas. This one had the huge selling point of trying the M82 50 Cal. Despite the negative reviews, our experience was completely different. We were greeted by Cory and everything went smoothly from the initial greeting. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. The rest of the staff were nice as well and helpful. Not sure what happened to some of the reviews who didn't have the same experience. Adding in the ridiculously affordable prices and big selection of ranges (we shot at the 100 yard) this place is a no brainer. Definitely coming back again when we are in town! read more

I read the negative reviews, but had no issues. This appears to be a family run, outdoor range, with affordable rates. My first visit (2/17/22) required a reading of the rules and confirmation that I understood their specific safety protocols (which are not complicated, nor are they unreasonable). I personally don't mind going to a gun range where the owners are particular about safety. Any time you go to a new range you should expect somebody to run you through their orientation. And gun ranges have the right to run their place the way they feel comfortable. I'll go again. The office had a small shop with ammo, so I picked up a box. Ignore the negative reviews. Be polite. Assure them you understand what they're asking you to do to keep everybody safe (mainly emphasizing what to do when somebody in your bay needs to go down range). It's a simple set up and they don't charge you for multiple guns. And really, if somebody asks you a lot of questions about gun etiquette/safety to ensure you don't hurt you or somebody else, is that such a big deal? Check times and dates, they are not open every weekday. read more

They confiscate your driver's license if you want to shoot. None of the other ranges locally insist on doing that, and I call it unacceptable. I won't surrender my primary ID to anyone but the cops if they demand it. Screw these people - they have no right to separate me from my ID. read more

I read the negative and positive reviews, decided the positive outweighed the bad, and decided to give them a try. No one was anything but friendly and helpful. I had questions, which the lady at the counter answered. She gave me the page of rules, which were simple and understandable, and quickly cleared up anything I wasn't 100% sure about. I was there near 4:15 or 4:30 in the afternoon of a blistering hot day, intentionally choosing an outdoor range to prepare for my outdoor LTC test Saturday. Instead of putting me in the middle of shooters in one of the other bays, she put me in a bay where no one was firing, and I was able to practice for more than an hour of uninterrupted time without worrying about inconvenience to anyone else while I checked the target after every magazine to see how I was doing. Since I had issues with one of my 2 pistols this was very much appreciated as the time passed. I agree totally with the positive reviews. this is a firing range with live ammo, and someone who has an attitude of disagreeing with anything the owners are doing should not, in my opinion, be there. I'd rather be asked every question they have to ask to ensure the safety of myself and others, than to be firing next to someone who doesn't stop when a cease fire is called! One suggestion - go earlier than 4:30 in the afternoon of a July heatwave! Although the shade provided did cut the sun a bit. Teach law enforcement firearms for 10 plus years this is important. The price is good and love the fact that they have numerous ranges, with limited points in them. This is hands down the beat outdoor range in San Antonio. It's not expensive at all and everyone is friendly and and accommodating at the office where you check in. It's a real cool place especially if you're trying to practice and or work your shooting. They also have pistol and rifle matches on some weekends of the month. Been to this range twice after trying for myself despite the bad reviews. Took my brother the other week to get the Texas experience, lady at the front desk is always nice and proffesional, along with the range workers. Dont know what the people did to piss the workers off or what kind of negligence was done to get kicked out but i have had a great experience with this range and will continue to. After getting cleared by my Obgyn, of course, I decided to renew my LTC license (with Deryl Oldag) before our new bundle of joy arrived. We had to qualify at this range after the classroom part of the training. I was impressed with how when I walked into the main building, the lady at the counter was quizzing a customer who wanted to use the range, on gun safety. She was very thorough! I'm not sure how much the regular fee is to use the range but I paid $13 along with the others who took the LTC training. Its VERY dusty out there so don't wash your vehicle and then go out there because you'll be upset like I was. Lol! Anyhow, I'd definitely recommend anyone come here to shoot at this range. read more

Cedar Ridge Range is a great shooting environment owned and operated by serious, no-nonsense people with safety foremost in their minds. They expect the same attitude from their customers, and insist on adherence to a few straightforward, simple rules. The range is divided into eight bays, and each bay operates separately from the others for maximum flexibility. Everyone is an RSO, and anyone can call "cease fire" - when you do, you accept responsibility for safety, and each person shooting is expected to behave as if everyone's safety is their personal obligation (it is, after all). There is also a members-only area with tightly-controlled access, and skeet/shotgun areas. Shooters range from first-timers just getting comfortable with firearms to grand master competitors, law enforcement, and seasoned combat vets with real-world experience downrange. I have never met a regular customer there who is not polite, friendly, and professional - the boneheads and muzzle-wavers don't last long here. There are other outdoor ranges in the San Antonio area (almost all of them closer to my home) but Cedar Ridge is the only place I shoot outdoors. Greg, Melinda, and Kyle are successful in a business where tolerating foolishness can get you killed. They don't suffer fools gladly, and I appreciate that. Regarding the "verbal test" - I've witnessed dozens of these simple, straightforward oral quizzes (only given to first-time shooters), and the only people who have trouble are the ones who can't read and respond, or who cop a "know-it-all" attitude. If you want a safe range to practice in a flexible environment with other responsible shooters, Cedar Ridge is the place. They don't charge by the hour or by the gun, either - shoot everything in the safe, all day if you like, for one low price. It doesn't get much better. read more

Their office personnel are not very friendly it's like they don't want you there I'm sure the regular customers are treated better then newcomers are it's like you're being stared down and being judged. I didn't care for the way they go over their rules and regulations the people behind the counter just seem to be rude and there was a group of men sitting at a table like they were staring you down. As well we did make it to the range and we had better experience. No problems there I would think that if you wanted return customers you'd be a little more friendlier I know rules and regulations are important especially at a gun range but I think you can still be friendly about it to get return customers don't think I'll be going back. read more

Hands down one of the nicest and friendliest ranges around. Very competitive rates and they loan out table mats, bags and rifle rests as well as eye and hearing protection. They offer lanes in sets of 4-6 in "bays" so that you and the 2-3 others in that bay can call a cease-fire amongst yourselves for target replacement, movement and checks. Each bay becomes a private shooting party. Range distances from 0 to 100 yards and we're grouped together by what distances we're shooting. Targets and ammo are reasonable. They have an interesting reclamation process for the environment -- which means you can only pick up your brass. Great place for bringing friends. We spent 4 1/2 hours out here the last time and we had a ton of fun. read more

This is a great range. As far as the complaints about the owners, I just don't see it. Don't show up with an attitude that you can't be bothered to learn and obey their rules and you'll be fine. The rules are not difficult to follow and are there to keep you safe. They setup the lanes so that everyone is an RSO. You can also have a 7 yard target for your pistol while the person next to you has a 5 yard or 50 yard target. Other outdoor ranges I've been to make everyone shoot at the same distance. BEST RANGE IN TEXAS! I've been shooting here every weekend for the past 3 years. The Ferris family is amazing and treats everyone with respect, and kindness, even those new to the 2a. As far as the 1 Star comments go, they have zero tolerance for stupidity, as they should. This is a shooting range not a playground. They are responsible for ensuring the safety of their clients and they do. The store has most any caliber you can think of, and 9 times out of 10 will beat even the cheapest online price. They have an amazing layaway program, 6 months, anything down. If you're a responsible shooter or even a novice this is the best place to go. Kyle is extremely informative and will help you find just about anything you'll need. Melinda is always working hard to get you to where you want to shoot. This is what a range should look and feel like. I don't live in the area any more but went here many times and now that I have to live without it, I realize how great it was. You drive to your assigned shooting area and it's outdoors and pleasant, without lame overhead beams or excessive structure. You're outside feeling the sunshine and breeze, not feeling like you're in a cave. It's spread out and spacious, out in the country. You've got the car backed up right to the shooting area so you aren't hauling all your stuff to where you shoot. You head down range yourself when you, a functioning adult deem it appropriate, and can set up targets. This is where self-respecting people go to shoot and relax, and hang out with friends and family and enjoy the experience. It's a model for what a shooting range ought to be. read more

This is the only range I have ever visited where I feel truly safe to focus on honing my own firearm handling skills instead of worrying about the idiot in the next lane accidentally shooting someone. Go to almost any other shooting range and take really good look around you (and above you, below you) .... notice anything strange? There are bullet holes in absolutely everything and everywhere. Every one of these holes was caused by someone who is not mature or competent enough to handle firearms safely. I have seen reviews where people attempt to criticize Cedar Ridge Range because they ask a few basic safety questions prior to letting you out on the range. If you cannot answer these questions, they will turn you away. It isn't trick questions either, it is common sense stuff. They even give you a cheat sheet before hand for Christs sake. These are questions that anyone who understands safe firearms protocol should be able to answer instinctively without hesitation. If you can't answer these questions, go take an NRA Safety Course for your own safety. These are BASIC safety protocols. I sincerely appreciate that they value the safety of their patrons more than they value the profits that could be had by letting unsafe shooters use the facilities. Beyond that, I appreciate the (what I call) "professional gun culture" there. Many of the folks you'll meet at this facility are veterans, lifelong hunters, folks involved in Law Enforcement, firearms training instructors etc. I've never seen thugs there with their pants hanging down their ass, holding their gun sideways looking like they are figuring out how the gun works before they go commit a robbery. Beyond that, the range is located in a lovely scenic rural area. The amenities are very nice. You can pull your vehicle right up close to your private pavilion, and you are free to bring your own targets.
