I wanted to share my experience here for anyone, especially women or newer shooters who are deciding where to go. During pistol practice, a round became misaligned while loading my magazine. I immediately stopped, raised my hand, and alerted the RSO because I take firearm safety seriously. Instead of calmly explaining the situation, the RSO escalated immediately, told me my gun was "broken," said it was extremely dangerous, and instructed me to leave the firing line and go to a gun smith, without attempting to resolve it or providing any reassurance. You would think that I just armed a bomb. At the front desk, it was later confirmed that the firearm was not damaged and that the round had already fallen free, which made the earlier response feel excessive and confusing. What made this worse was the owner's public response to my Google review, which was dismissive, condescending and tried to gaslight the situation, instead of acknowledging how intimidating the situation was, the response reframed my experience as something I should be "pleased" about and implied incompetence on my part. He also tried to say the RSO was watching over 9 lanes with 18 people but there were only 2 other people there shooting in the entire range. Overall it was a really terrible experience and upon checking others reviews It seems the owner has a pattern of responding defensively. I would not recommend this range unless you are okay being talked down to and treated as incompetent. It did not feel women friendly and I will be making sure I take all my friends to any other local range. No one should be punished for trying to learn and asking for help. read more

Can't imagine a better gun range. Kind staff and facilities are clean and organized. I went here with my husband who is a skilled shooter. My husband is a good teacher but the range safety staff was also super helpful at making me feel comfortable and gave me some guidance as well. Feeling excited for my next trip to Shady Oaks Gun Range. Note for first timers: wear close toed shoes, high neck shirt, so shell casings don't pop down your shirt like what happened to me haha, have protective eye wear and gun range ear muffs, and take safety instructions seriously. My husband said last time he was at the range two guys were pointing the guns at each other to take selfies. DON'T be those people!! This is taken seriously and those two people were banned from the range for life. read more

Was expecting to feel really intimidated as I had never been shooting before, but all the workers there are so friendly and welcoming! Shady Oaks Gun Range - Deeply Disappointed After Years of Loyalty I've been coming to this range for nearly four years. I've always had good experiences in the past--I even completed my License to Carry qualification here. Until recently, I would have recommended this place without hesitation. Unfortunately, that has changed. Over the last few visits, I've noticed a clear decline in staff attitude and customer service. Employees have become short, dismissive, and openly irritated--not just with me, but with other customers as well. Today's visit was the breaking point. I arrived with a friend and spent about an hour and a half shooting on the pistol range with no issues. That friend left, and another friend arrived so he could quickly zero a rifle. We asked staff if pistols were allowed on the rifle range and were told yes. We spent roughly 15 minutes while he zeroed the rifle. I didn't even remove my own gear--I stood well behind him the entire time. When we went to switch back to the pistol range, we were told: * Pistols could only be shot at 20 meters minimum, which makes little sense for most pistol training. * We'd be charged again to switch ranges (fine--rules are rules). * But then we were informed that both of us would be charged $20 each, even though I never fired a single round on the rifle range. When we explained the situation, the employee at the counter was visibly frustrated, rude, and more focused on his computer issues than on listening. He went to speak with the manager and returned saying we would be charged anyway. No explanation, no attempt at customer service--just "that's the rule." We accepted it and moved on. What left an even worse impression came at checkout. My friend--who is a retired combat veteran, 100% disabled, with two tours in Afghanistan--asked if there was a military discount. The manager responded curtly with "only active or retired," despite my friend clearly qualifying. The end result? A $7 discount total, delivered with zero appreciation or respect. Ironically, the older range employee later apologized to us privately and acknowledged the frustration, saying he was just enforcing rules. That alone speaks volumes. This place has gone way downhill. Rigid, poorly explained policies combined with dismissive attitudes and a lack of basic respect for long-time customers and veterans make it impossible for me to recommend this range anymore. There are better options nearby. I would rather drive 20 minutes to Round Rock than return here. I'm disappointed--and unless management takes accountability and reaches out, I won't be back. read more

Place has a confusing lay out but the have very friendly and attentive staff. They take safety very seriously and have 25 yard handgun and 75 yard long gun ranges all indoors with air conditioning. They also have small outdoor archery area. Prices are fair and rental gun selection is small. read more

We moved to TX in November and came here a few times before the end of 2025. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Our experience was so good we got an annual membership for both pistol and rifle ranges in January 2026. We try to make it out at least once a week and every time has been great. Everyone on staff is great! No complaints here. Definitely recommend Shady Oaks. read more

I see a few negative remarks and reviews about the Range Master being strict. Why would anyone want to go to a range where the Range Master is not? If you are not one to follow the basic rules of operating your fire arm safely then I don't want to be shooting next to you. Safety first. I have always respected the Range Masters and listen to them and ask permission and questions if necessary. Never had any issues at Shady Oaks. Learn how to shoot safely and follow the basic rules. WORST SHOOTING RANGE EXPERIENCE EVER. if I could give 0 stars I would. this was the worst shooting range experience I have ever had, and it was not my first time Shooting. Mind you my friends and I are not regular shooters, so we were trying to find a place at a reasonable price and we came across this place (backfired enormously). One of us did not have shooting experience and that hasn't been an issue before. The guy in the front was instantly rude, said if we needed lessons it was an additional $80 but we should have signed up before (mind you we called to ask about info before coming in and this was not told to us), and he couldn't do it because he "didn't have time". the vibes were off. He also didn't let my friend write with his pen because he was very particular about his pen? All the pens looked the same. That was super weird. when we went inside, the person supervising instantly targeted us, maybe he realized we weren't regular shooters but he was EXTREMELY impatient and rude! our first guns kept getting jammed and we had to switch guns halfway through. one of the guns was so jammed I cut my finger and bled. That supervisor tried to fire it too and it didn't work, so it wasn't just me. We shot outside of the target some times, but the supervisor was so rude and impatient he told two of us to stop shooting, so there went our money. Mind you we were NOT the only ones there nor the ONLY ones shooting out of the target, but we got hit with $75 damage fee for hitting the roof (again not the only ones who did it ! but only ones charged). we didn't get an explanation for that fee more than you owe it, and when we asked why we were the only ones charged the guy said "I don't know, I just got here" and brushed it off. piece of advice: if you're not an experienced shooter DO NOT COME HERE, if you want an enjoyable shooting experience DO NOT COME HERE, those should be their slogan Actually. Rude people through and through. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here if there is a reply from the owner, which in other reviews I've seen it's condescending and dismissive, my point proven exactly. read more

The people running this place are the coolest I've encountered. Whether you're a newbie or a pro, they treat you well (even when you ask pretty basic questions). There are a lot of people new to this field maybe and are coming in with some preconceived ideas of how they'll be treated. There are places in town that will match those pessimistic notions. Shady Oaks will defy them. I've been treated very well there and they've made practice enjoyable instead of a contest. This is a great range for everyone but if you're new to shooting, I can't recommend them more. read more

Many things could improve - the equipment (check-in and check-out) Ns entry process is antiquated and could benefit from a more digital or real app-based management system. The friendliness and customer service also have room to improve, as the front office staff is not engaging and rude. Honestly, I would likely not visit this place again- I had been a patron and had gone several times, but the service has gotten so bad with no improvement, and fees have gone up, there are no real substantial reasons to return here. 1st time here. A smaller and somewhat 'older' building with 2 industrial buildings/ sheds in the back. Had to knock on the front door. Upon entering you are asked if you've been here before. They have you watch a gun safety video (with a presenter/ video I've watched before, at other locations) and then sign a waiver. There was a waiting time on this Sunday afternoon, so plenty of time to listen, look for new guns (not a whole lot) but plenty) and accessories. Once assigned to a lane, you get a time card to old-fashionably clock-in, and clock-out after you're done. Ear and eye protection, targets are available for a small amount. People who wear glasses are considered having eye protection. There are guns for rent if you're still trying and figuring out what you want to get. And there were 1-2 staff present for safety and clean up of all used ammo. Was happy to try out a Glock. Will definitely go back to check out the other building to shoot with rifles. And according to the helpful staff, there is an outdoor archery. Did noticed some bows and arrows, but not a lot. Will have to look more into it, as I did see 1 wall outside by the parking lot left from the building, where you can hang up targets . Pleasant, chill, a safe experience. read more

I've been attending SO for several years now, and have been shooting weekly since my retirement and subsequent rekindled interest in pistols. I'd competed in both USPSA and IDPA in several states in my younger years, and have visited facilities ranging from commercial building basements (Eugene, Oregon) to sites hosting national events (Las Vegas, NV). The SO RSOs go out of their way to be friendly and helpful, as well as technically proficient. The facility itself is thoughtfully laid out, with separate rifle and pistol buildings, and the prices for range time are competitive with other area ranges. Since the closure of Best of the West SO has been my go-to, but I sure do miss the ability to engage multiple targets at once. read more

The Shady Oaks response is non-sense. The website clearly states "kids shoot free" when sharing a lane, which we did. In the past, I was never charged for a kid sharing a lane. The attitude exhibited by the staff had nothing to do with being charged a fee for my kid. The staff are clearly overworked and show this when they open the door when you knock for entry--more than one staffer who had to open the door was clearly perturbed at having to get up. There were other patrons around the door that commented on the noticeable attitude. Shady Oak's response to my review clearly illustrates the condescending attitude of many of its staff, and the reason the place will never improve because of it. Recently discovered Shady Oaks while getting my LTC. First, the online course is great, has awesome detail, and is well done. The facility is safe, secure, clean,(not huge) well staffed by knowledgable and personable folks, and defended by a lovely Australian Sheperd who will let you do anything for extra belly rubs! ;-) The staff is great; I recommend Victoria for personalized lessons(she did my LTC certification), and she was just lovely. However, I have met other instructors there, and they all seem great and super competent. They also have weapons to rent(and buy) and try out, which is great for any new gun buyers who are evaluating, say, the Sig-P365 instead of the Glock 43x, for example. If you are looking for a reasonably priced, safe shooting experience with great professionals, I could not recommend them anymore! read more

Wonder Wife and I just moved from Colorado to Texas (it's good to be home!) and I need to find a good range. I stopped by SOGR today to check it out. I didn't take a lane and shoot; I was just curious as to what kind of experience I'd have looking around. Gregory walked me through their pricing and answered all of my questions. He was incredibly polite, helpful and friendly and came across as a genuinely good guy. The pricing is similar to what I paid in Colorado Springs, however the membership is paid annually up front which is going to be painful - it might be wise for them to consider doing a monthly option for 10% more (or whatever) to make the dues more palatable. However, unlimited range time, unlimited gun rentals and priority lane access is worth the price. I plan on grabbing a lane in the next week or so to see how the range is and what the RSO's are like. read more

Took my father-in-law visiting from Japan because he wanted the experience of shooting a gun (not possible in Japan). He doesn't speak English, and staff was accommodating about my accompanying to interpret for him. We booked two hours instead of the standard 1-hour because of the extra time it would take for all the instructions to be delivered twice. Our instructor, Cody King, was extremely patient, friendly, and effective as an instructor. He went over everything carefully, without going too fast, invited questions, tested for comprehension, etc. After the training we went to the range where my father-in-law got to shoot most of a full box of ammunition, which he greatly enjoyed. At checkout, staff was thoughtful to ask when my father-in-law was returning to Japan, noting that gunshot residue would be detectable on the hands for up to a week and they check for that at the airport. He said to hang onto the receipt as evidence that we'd been to a gun range. Reviews for another range had complaints about racism, which is one reason I chose Shady Oaks since that wasn't mentioned in its reviews. Indeed, staff was welcoming to us, one staff member actually spoke a little Japanese, and I noticed various African-American customers there, who are apparently comfortable at Shady Oaks. It was my families first time here and it lasted about 3 minutes. The staff particularly one guy was disrespectful from the start. He had asked me if two of my family members had shot before and I replied no, but they stated yes they have just not recently. He said "I specifically asked you and you told me no so which one is it" he asked this because they wanted them to start out with .22 which is agreeable but after this we decided to go somewhere else and he then said "if you're going to eagle range good luck getting in". It's insane the amount of disrespect that was uncalled for. I don't understand why any business would employ someone like that. I'm a former LEO and US Army combat veteran so even if I brought family members that haven't shot before I would ensure everyone was safe and respected the range. I was going to sign up 3 of them for the daily classes which they charge $80 an hour for so it's their loss. Don't waste your time, spend your money where it's appreciated. read more

If you're on the fence about visiting Shady Oaks, don't be.... I dropped by for the first time last week for some pistol range time, and it was great! Everyone was super nice, the check-in process was efficient, the required safety video for first timers was professionally done, and the pistol range was perfect. Have to say I also enjoyed visiting with the Range Master's, as well as one of the Shady Oaks members! Enjoyed seeing some of the unique firearms folks were shooting as well. Facilities were great - zero issues. Finally, echoing another review I read recently - I left one of my paper targets on the counter after checking out, and the gentleman at the counter brought it out to my truck....I mean, come on, that was super nice. Nothing "Shady" about this place. Completely professional crew from start to finish. Facilities are clean, modern and the rifle range is only about a year old. Acoustic design was done nicely and was certainly appreciated by my eardrums. ETR menu was easy to use and gave plenty of options. Our RSO, Emmanuel, was awesome and informative. This place is pretty decent and well priced . I'd probably give them 4 or 5 stars except a young RSO accused my girlfriend of shooting the rail for no reason at all. That annoyed the fuck out of me. Seemed misogynistic for the sake of it. Nothing rattled, nothing broke, and there was absolutely no reason to think ANYONE shot the rail at that moment. That place was fuckin full and dude seemingly singled out the one woman in the place to accuse her out of the blue. I'm trying real hard to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he saw or heard *something* (god knows what). And, to be honest, at an indoor range I actually would prefer the RSO to be more anal than at an outdoor range, but even this did seem a bit over the top. Except for that one dude this place is decent. I will be back and I understand that one employee of many does not, and should not, reflect on the place as a whole. Every one else was friendly and helpful, the indoor lanes seemed well cared for and ventilated, and the price was decent. As of this review it's $17.50 for one person on one lane for 45 minutes, $5 for each additional 15 minutes, and it's $15 per for 2 people on one lane. read more

We brought our family of six with 4 teenagers 19F, 17M, 17F, 14F to shoot yesterday and had an exceptional time! We showed up and it was a bit busy there was a bit of a wait, good sign! But they made that wait easy by giving us the paperwork to sign, gun rentals set up, etc. so that we were ready to hit the ground running when two lanes were open. Cool facility with lots of rental options and a great store. We almost left with a new gun. I'm not convinced my husband won't be driving back there today to buy it (lol!). Their staff was SUPER friendly, safe and took their time to ensure everything was right for us. I really love their gun rental policy where you can try any many as you want for $20 + cost of ammo. Other ranges I have been to charge by the firearm and we tend to rack up quite the bill. My son loved trying so many different firearms! Perfect experience.
