I wanted to take the time to thank you for a really great experience last Saturday while attending your Texas Conceled Handgun Class! I pride myself in doing my homework before making significant decisions in life. Since I already hold a CHL from another state, I wanted to make sure that I received the correct professional instruction regarding safety, legalities, and real world scenarios so I can the first step to responsibly and effectively carry a concealed handgun. Well, I will have to say that a few hours of internet searching paid big dividends! My search lead me to your website and after reviewing your stellar credentials and real world background I was ready to sign up. Who wouldn't want to learn from someone who ACTUALLY spent their life training and living exactly what they were teaching? What helped seal the deal was you (and your wife) promptly responding to ALL my questions about your course. To sum it up I made a GREAT decision to take your class and I would recommend it to anyone who does not accept anything less than "top notch" instruction. This was not another dry pencil and paper eleven hour course where I left thinking about how bad the coffee and food was! This was an "experience" where the combination of classroom materials, actual demonstrations of real world scenarios, and limited personal range instruction (while qualifying) left me wanting more! I honestly believe that the principals you taught/demonstrated can mean the difference between a member of my family or myself safely making it through a dangerous confrontation. By your opening my eyes to so many new concepts I will never look at the responsibility of carrying a firearm the same way again. If you are looking for an excellent CHL class, you can't go wrong here. Highest recommendation. Course is taught by Steve Smith -- 17 year British Army (including SAS) veteran, plus all manner of other combat and teaching experience. Suffice it to say that unlike many (indeed, probably most) of the CHL instructors out there, he has years of real world experience (including teaching military and law enforcement officers), and is not just a weekend wannabe who has been through the DPS CHL instructor's course. He's the real deal, and there's no reason not to learn from the best. Steve and his people (similarly credentialed ex-military) also offer tactical pistol courses (as well as tactical carbine, shotgun, and other weapon courses that are more geared to professionals). While a tactical pistol course is not required for your CHL (the weapon proficiency test for the CHL is a joke), if you are going to carry you really should think about taking one -- you better be able to hit what you aim at under stress. (Feb 2012 update:) I've now taken Asgard's Tactical Pistol I course as well, and it also gets the highest review. Proper techniques of drawing from the holster, shooting on the move, shooting from cover, weapon stoppage drills, engaging multiple assailants, etc., are all covered, and you practice them -- a lot! This is the kind of training and experience that you simply cannot get from going to your standard pistol range and punching paper. Tactical Pistol 3 Hello All, This is my of Tactical Pistol 3. Day one was a review of Tac 1 and 2. 19 drills to keep ingraining the basics of weapon manipulation. this constant training is to make your handling of your weapon reaction based instead of having to think about it. Day 2, this day, in simple terms, is scenario based training. We utilized prop walls and 3-D targets. We blindly walk into a situation and you must use your training to deduce that is going, make a decision on what to do, then put that decision into action. I got to tell you, this is a whole new level of training. The actions and consequences create a greater effect physically and psychologically. Your stress level is greatly elevated and your heart rate is up. The consequences of screwing up, for me at least, created a greater psychological effect in these scenarios. After each scenario, bad or good outcome, I did a mental AAR (after action review) to assess what happened in an attempt to learn from from it. Of all the classes I have taken, this day affected me more than any other. I mean that it affected me in a way that I had not experienced. Most importantly the affect was a good thing. It was a good thing b/c I believe this is where the mental training go to a huge new level. I will probably spend weeks going over and over my screw ups. As always Steve's training was relative, precise, reality based, integrated, and high quality. He has developed another quality training class to help us better prepare for a bad situation. A co-worker let me know about a groupon for a CHL class from Asgard. My groupon expired on 12/5 but they honored it for the 12/6 class. My wife and I attended the class together at about the same cost as a single student would pay. We were both thoroughly impressed by Steve Smith's technical, and more important, practical knowledge of the material, and he gave several demonstrations that emphasized the material. He also had a sense of humor that I found amusing, even though I was the focus of one of the jokes! My wife and I were so impressed we plan on taking the Tactical/Defense Pistol class to make sure we were better prepared. I have never taken a course like this so I have no basis of comparison to judge prior to taking the course (aside from my military experience), but i do now, and I would expect no less than the professional and highly informative style of course like we took on the 6th. I took my CHL class from Steve Smith who was my instructor with Asgard National Training Group on Sept.8, 2012. It was the best class I have ever taken. Steve was the best teacher I have ever had. He was great!! I could ask questjons anytime during the class and Steve would pick up where he had left off. In fact he encouraged all the class to participate to get more out of the class. I took the CHL class from Stephen Smith with the Asgard training group. This guy was fanastic. Not only did he help with a greater understanding of the laws, but also the psychological aspects involved. He really helped instill the discipline required to make these types of decisions and gave real world scenarios. I found him entertaining and extremely proficient at his craft. On the range he also helped with technique. In addition to civilians, he also trains law enforcement and military personnel. He truly understands all aspects of owning, using, maintainig, and handling firearms. I've been wanting to take a CHL class ofr a while and was a bit nervous. I saw this class was taught by very qualified instructors. People who make a living or have made a living understanding and teaching self protection. Steve Smith and his wife were great. Steve is funny and makes the 10 hour class easy to understand no matter what level your at with handguns. I took my CHL class from Mr. Steve Smith in March of 2012. Steve is an excellent instructor and teacher. He knows the laws of Texas regarding Concealed Carry. He is ex military with a very DEEP knowledge base and understanding, not only of weapons, but what goes into the decision to carry and use a weapon. I've since utilized his teachings on deescalation of emotional negative situations. I have since taken Asgard's Tactical Pistol 1 class and intend on taking other classes they have offered. Steve's teaching is first rate. Asgard's pricing is fair and competitive. I'd send my family and children to this man. I trust him and his teaching. The course was outstanding. It covered everything needed to pass the required test in an interesting and even entertaining manner. The instructor, Steve Smith, is a true professional who illustrated many of the concepts covered with his real world experiences, which made taking the course a pleasure not the chore I expected it would be. I thought the CHL class offerred by Asgard National Training Group was a great value for the money. Besides the classroom training and the assistance at the range which has been well reviewed by others, many perks came with the course. For the money, which was cheaper than others I saw on line, you also got both breakfast and lunch, range fees, the two ID photos required as part of your application for the license, coffee, personal help on the range, a year's membership to the shooting range, and I even got to take the extra bagels home. I did not yet have my weapon, but I was able to rent one and get the necessary bullets for the shooting test at the range. It was a complete package. read more

Took their CHL course, which the state requires 10 hours of instruction and range proficiency testing. I actually enjoyed the class and appreciate Steve's years of military training, including his amusing stories. His years of hands on experience is a huge advantage over an ordinary CHL instructor with no experience looking down the barrel at another human being. I just completed the Tactical Pistol I training this weekend. If you carry a pistol, you can benefit from Steve's experience. I served six years in the Army National Guard, just long enough to know that military training can be not fun if done wrong.
