I wanted to share my experience here for anyone, especially women or newer shooters who are…read moredeciding where to go. During pistol practice, a round became misaligned while loading my magazine. I immediately stopped, raised my hand, and alerted the RSO because I take firearm safety seriously. Instead of calmly explaining the situation, the RSO escalated immediately, told me my gun was "broken," said it was extremely dangerous, and instructed me to leave the firing line and go to a gun smith, without attempting to resolve it or providing any reassurance. You would think that I just armed a bomb. At the front desk, it was later confirmed that the firearm was not damaged and that the round had already fallen free, which made the earlier response feel excessive and confusing. What made this worse was the owner's public response to my Google review, which was dismissive, condescending and tried to gaslight the situation, instead of acknowledging how intimidating the situation was, the response reframed my experience as something I should be "pleased" about and implied incompetence on my part. He also tried to say the RSO was watching over 9 lanes with 18 people but there were only 2 other people there shooting in the entire range. Overall it was a really terrible experience and upon checking others reviews It seems the owner has a pattern of responding defensively. I would not recommend this range unless you are okay being talked down to and treated as incompetent. It did not feel women friendly and I will be making sure I take all my friends to any other local range. No one should be punished for trying to learn and asking for help.

I won't even think about going anywhere else for further work on my shooting skills. Even if you are not a new shooter, I HIGHLY recommend taking their course. Their approach to learning is not just how to operate your gun, proper two-hand grip, obtain sight, and pull the trigger. They give you the experience of what it feels like to shoot single handed, how it feels when a gun jams, how to safely clear a gun jam when possible, how it feels to shoot a target close up (like an assailant who is in your personal space), and many other perspectives you may not think of. Again, you can't go wrong with CAPS. You will not find another team like John and Julianna. As for being a woman shooter, you will not find anyone who will teach you how to handle your weapon like Julianna.

I couldn't find anything to fit into my hectic schedule, so I simply picked a class that fit into my schedule that weekend. I was really nervous when I showed up. I REALLY lucked out. Stephen was great. I was dreading an all day class of stuffy and boring material. I wasn't bored and was engaged the whole entire time. I learned a great deal and the class was excellent. Highly recommended. His teaching methods really got the material to stick in my head (which is hard for me usually). I also enjoyed side conversations about the subject matter during the breaks. He also really got me thinking about things i've never thought about before. I have a great deal of homework, planning, and further education I need to work on! I will be back to take other classes for sure! I am so glad that I took my CHL class with them and not another instructor.

While filling out the required paperwork for the LTC, I found out you could take classroom portion online! There were quite a few options available, so I looked for a local Austin (well, Leander) based business to support. I signed up for the LTC Austin online course to keep myself busy during the current Stay-at-Home order. The courses were thorough and easy to navigate. I really appreciated being able to do it on my own time, rather than sitting in a classroom for 5 hours like I had to do in Florida. It was a great refresher for a lot of basics and coming from another state, I found the coverage of Texas specific laws incredibly valuable, having seen many of the signs posted around town already. They have a partnership with Shady Oaks Gun Range in Cedar Park that I plan on scheduling my LTC Proficiency Demonstration with as soon as they are able to start booking them again.

They've been able to excel and had more 1-on-1 help. Class sizes are smaller than regular public school classes. They definitely care about the kids. They want all the kids to succeed and push them to their academic limits. They have helped my guys get to where they are now and have been absolutely wonderful. If you are looking for a more private school setting (ie: uniforms, smaller class sizes, more academic push) check out this school.. There has been changes but I can see they have a clear vision for where the school is going. It's been great getting to know everyone here, I volunteer at least one day a week and my husband's helping set up Watch DOGS we are certain that this is a great place for my children to learn and grow. The size of the school is wonderful, small one on one environment lends itself to close attention and real caring.
