This is my fourth semester at ACC.. and all 4, I have mainly attended the Cypress campus…read more This is a fairly small campus, easy to find at the corner of Lakeline and Cypress Creek Rd. Entrances from both roads make it easier to get to the campus, no matter which direction you're coming from. There are 2 buildings.. the main 1000 building (classrooms/testing center/small bookstore) and the 2000 building (classrooms, advising, learning lab, student services, assessment testing). The library is centrally located. Parking - Ahh.. some days it's ok, some days not so much. I usually have to park pretty far away, but compared to some of the bigger campuses, this one rocks! Don't forget that parking pass unless you want a ticket! Visitors have quite a few spots near the front. Very nice for those coming in to pick up something, or tour the campus/get enrolled for the first time. Campus is clean, well kept, and easy to get around. Labs are set up well. No cadaver lab for allied health students (Boo!). There is a commons area in the 1000 building and a small cafe. Food.. ahh.. overpriced but edible. There are vending machines everywhere but keep in mind that I can never get them to accept my ACC debit card, so cash is best. The commons area has tables and chairs, as well as big comfy seats and ottomans. It can get really noisy and sometimes there are kids (like 10-16 years old) hanging out in that area for some reason and making a heck of a racket. I've seen it quiet.. usually it isn't. The singing that goes on there is the most annoying. If I want to hear horrific singing, I'll go to a karaoke bar. This happens nearly every evening that I have a gap between classes. I do wish people would be more respectful and especially leave your kids at home.. not on campus. While it is a commons area.. many people do like to study there because you can talk with your friends and grab a bite to eat. The library isn't always good because sometimes it's just really full. I wonder why? Classrooms: Set up nicely for the most part. The smaller classrooms can feel cramped when the class is full, but it's still manageable. Everything else: Restrooms are centrally located and usually quite clean. There is an elevator that works well. Some of the drinking fountains have water bottle access. (Super nice!). Advising area is cramped, and sometimes the wait is really long. Waiting areas are cramped as well. Not much room back there.. especially when busy. The process to be seen by financial aid or an advisor, isn't always clear. 9/10 times I go to Round Rock for student services, even though it is further away. In general.. I love this campus. If I could just get away from the American Idol tryouts every Tues and Thursday night.. it'd be darn near perfect.

We also needed a chemistry tutor this year and Cheryl was equally wonderful! The best thing is that they come to my house...so no extra after school driving & I can keep working on my stuff without having to pack everything up and sit in my car waiting. I would definitely give them 10 stars if I could. We're planning on staying with this company for the duration of my daughter's high school career.

First, admissions forgot to inform me that they would charge an extra $3500 for out of district tuition, so that charge blindsided me a week into classes. After waiting a week to get a hold of a financial aid person, they told me they wouldn't help me and to try my advisor. They shoved me off so fast, and didn't even ask me what the problem was. SO RUDE. I couldn't get a hold of my student advisor the entire semester. When I finally received an email back from Ara Williams, it was AI generated, and didn't answer my actual concerns because he was "too busy" with other students who had "actual problems". You will spent most of you time trying to find the right person to email, because most of the staff will just shove you off to someone else or telling you to just be grateful for the breadcrumbs of information or help they offer. On top of that, they hire "professors" like Cassie Smith for Anthropology who are NOT qualified to teach the subject, but will also hire department chairs like Dr. Sanchez to protect these "professors" even when they lack the basic knowledge to teach. Both of these staff members accused me of cheating without any sort of proof, but tried to tell me I should be "grateful" they gave me a grade that I earned. This was after I had to email the professor every SINGLE week to open the appropriate information and assignments. Yes, I had to remind my professor to unlock the weekly assignments with an email that she didn't respond to for two days prior. She was probably busy trying to make her lecture videos that didn't post until halfway through the week. It's sad that all this time she spent "preparing" for her class she couldn't run a spell check before posting anything, including feedback on papers. Cassie Smith is unprofessional and should never teach again. Dr. Sanchez should never be allowed to interact with students again. Telling a student who did not cheat to "be grateful the professor was willing to change the grade" is INSANE and shows how selfish this college is. They will do WHATEVER it takes to protect their own, even if it means lying about a student's academic dishonesty. This ENTIRE college runs on manipulation, scams, and lies. DO NOT waste your money here because they do not care about you. I have hired a lawyer to pursue legal action because of this semester with Austin Community College.

Jessica the instructor is a great guide, flexible, informative and patient. This class isn't cheap but they supply ALL THE ART SUPPLIES and we've painted in acrylic, oils, and watercolors and drawn with charcoal and pencil. Paper, solvent, linseed oil. I was really nervous the first class, but the piece turned out better than I expected. I find the class calming, almost meditative.

I was thrilled when a group of moms in my neighborhood arranged for an instructor to come to us! We never got the chance to find out what the program was about, though . . . The first time our demonstration class was scheduled the instructor forgot. This could happen to the best of us, we figured. So although we were surprised that instead of being apologetic the owner said, "Well, it is a holiday weekend." when we spoke to her (I'm not sure how that makes a difference if you have a class scheduled), we decided to try again the next week. Once again we gathered, excited to see what it was all about. All of us arrived at a neighborhood home right at the scheduled time. All of us that is, except the instuctor. Four minutes after the class was supposed to BEGIN she left a message saying that her car was acting up. She lives in North Austin and was still about 10 minutes away from us and did not want to continue on the highway. Once again, this is something that could happen to anyone. What we didn't understand was why she was calling from so far away AFTER the class was supposed to start. If I were the instructor I would arrive early enough to make sure that I found the house and was the first one there to greet everyone and get started on time! Our group quickly reached a consensus - we won't be counting on Smart Hands Austin to be able to provide us with a demo class in our neighborhood . . . Too bad!!!

She was out of her comfort zone but the amazing SOR teachers help guide her and build her confidence, culminating in just the most impressive rock concert at the end of the season. They cultivate a kind and fun community there and I'm so impressed at what I've seen these kiddos and teens achieve.
