My girlfriend and I visited Red's Indoor Range North expecting a safe and enjoyable experience. Instead, we left feeling embarrassed, singled out, and disrespected. We were the only Black customers in the establishment at the time. After completing our paperwork, an employee named Joe stopped us and said we could not shoot because two customers had complained about a "weed smell." Neither of us uses marijuana or drugs. When we questioned how he determined the smell came from us, Joe admitted that he personally did not smell marijuana on or around us. Another employee who appeared to be a manager also told me he did not smell marijuana on me. He said he smelled perfume and suggested that may have contributed to the assumption. Given the circumstances, we felt racially profiled and unfairly singled out. What made it worse was that after I explained I am a former military police officer and currently work in corrections, the attitude toward us noticeably changed and became much more accepting. We should not have to explain our military service or profession to receive basic respect. The manager ultimately determined there was no reason we couldn't shoot, so after all of the embarrassment and suspicion, we were allowed to proceed. My girlfriend was a first-time shooter, but the employee assisting us afterward seemed uninterested and provided minimal instruction. The RSO was the one bright spot--he was professional, helpful, and checked on us multiple times throughout the experience. We were also surprised by the final bill. The signage stated $20 per lane, yet we were charged $20 per shooter even though we used one lane. We were also charged a $10 rental fee per shooter despite only renting one firearm. The pricing should have been clearly explained beforehand. Most disappointing of all, Joe never apologized, and neither did any other employee. I understand that a range must prioritize safety, and I have no issue with legitimate safety policies. But there is a difference between enforcing safety and making customers feel accused and profiled based on an allegation that the employee himself could not verify. We came in expecting a good experience and left feeling humiliated, misjudged, and disrespected. Based on our experience, we will not be returning to this location. read more

I visited this range while in Austin from Rhode Island for my birthday. My partner and I were genuinely excited to come here, especially because this was going to be my first experience at a gun range. My partner had also received multiple recommendations for this establishment through her Navy friends and veteran circles, so we came in expecting a great experience. When we arrived, we were greeted by a group of men sitting near the entrance. There were about four people ahead of us, and I remember being nothing but excited while we waited for our turn. When we reached the front, we began filling out our paperwork. There were several other customers moving around the establishment, including two men directly behind us returning rifles. My partner and I were also the only people of color in the establishment at the time. After my partner finished the paperwork, an employee named Joe came to the front desk and told us that people had reported that we smelled like marijuana and, because of that, we would not be allowed to shoot that day. We were completely baffled. Neither of us smokes at all--marijuana or otherwise. My partner works in corrections and is a US veteran, and neither of us uses marijuana. We asked Joe whether he personally smelled marijuana on either of us, and he told us that he could not smell anything. Despite that, we were initially told we had to leave. My partner then spoke with another employee, a very kind and understanding gentleman with a long gray beard whose name I unfortunately do not remember. He explained that someone had smelled our perfume when we walked by and apparently assumed that we were using perfume to cover the smell of marijuana. That explanation was extremely upsetting. Being the only people of color there and having an assumption like that made about us, despite the employee confronting us acknowledging that he could not smell marijuana himself, left us feeling singled out and racially profiled. I have never personally experienced something like this before, and it was genuinely hurtful--especially on my birthday and during an experience I had been so excited about. After my partner escalated the situation and spoke with the other gentleman, he listened to us, handled the conversation respectfully, and ultimately told us that we were fine to shoot and that they had needed to be sure. I appreciated the way he treated us and that we were eventually allowed to finish the experience. Unfortunately, we never received an apology or further clarification from Joe after being permitted to continue despite him being a few feet away from us. We completed our time at the range, and I am glad I was still able to experience shooting at a range for the first time, but the way the situation began overshadowed what should have been a really exciting birthday memory. My partner has since shared what happened with the Navy friends and veteran groups who originally recommended this establishment to her. I sincerely wish our experience had been different. We came in excited, respectful, and ready to enjoy ourselves, but we left feeling deeply uncomfortable and singled out. I will not be returning to this establishment. read more

Chaotic. Obviously popular! 20$/hr each lane. Only active duty military discount. It's a good place to just practice your rounds. Indoor range for rifle shooting is a plus---they have 100m lane. We rented one lane for pistol and one lane for rifle. Not too friendly staff probably because it's crowded. The place gets the job done. We have a family member who's new and trying to learn, def not a comfy place to learn to shoot. read more

This place is great! I am a New Yorker who has zero experience with guns. Red's has an amazing teacher, Tony, a multi-deployed Marine, who helped me get confidence with my firearm and feel safe with picking up, firing, and storing my hand gun. He also helped me get my LTC license. I just brought friends to Red's and they love this range too! The folks that work there make you feel comfortable and are knowledgeable. Keep in mind that I only went for the shooting range and to rent a gun, NOT to buy anything for personal use. I went with friends and family to try this shooting range. All-in-all, this place might seem intimidating, but it's clear that everyone here is very into gun safety and gun education. We got a fulfilling introduction to pistols and rifles before shooting to ensure our safety. They had a good selection of what you want to choose with varying rental guns and sufficient ammo. The safety glasses and ear protection was also handled well and they ensured nobody used the same glasses (used ones go into a different bucket) and the noise protection doors were shut properly. There's also someone in the range to ensure questions are answered and safety is being followed. Everyone looked somewhat nonchalant but interacting with everyone just felt like a normal interaction with no judgment. They also did what they could to cooperate with us when some of us didn't speak perfect English. I even had a baby with me and they were really chill about it (as long as I was responsible with the baby)! I would definitely come back, but I would suggest doing a lot of prior research regardless. read more

The range is great! Well maintained, efficient Range Safety Officers, and a wide variety of firearms to try out. The process to sign in is easy too. My only complaint is that it is excessively hot in the range room. No drinks are allowed inside, so hydrate before you go in. On a hot summer day it's brutal. A couple of strong fans would help! I would give negatives if I could. Told them I was looking for a new duty fire arm for work and they sold me on a 19X. I said I needed a holster and they said yes of course they make them but they do not. Now I have wasted $900 and have to buy another gun. For a place that sales guns and works close with Police they should know what guns so not fit duty holsters like that. read more

Reds is my favorite indoor shooting range. It came in clutch during the pandemic when they were open and allowed groups to come in a shoot. They have about 16 lanes - 8 for handguns and 8 for long guns (shotguns, rifles, etc). We went as a group today and we're able to reserve both types of lanes and switch back and forth, unlike other indoor ranges that are more restrictive. The range officer and person at the check in counter were friendly and helpful. Reds isn't a fancy, elegant indoor shooting range. It's there to get the job done and take photos outside of the building. The employees are helpful if you're a first time shooter or someone who would like to purchase a firearm and other items. Pro Tips: - If you are firing shotguns, only slugs are allowed - you can only hit equipment up to 3 times before being asked to leave (I saw someone shooting a rifle who kept accidentally hitting the arm of the target holder) - Mondays are Ladies Days - Children under 18 shoot for free, and there is a discount for couples (male & female) read more

The staff were very helpful and courteous. I already have a pretty good idea how the process works, so I didn't need much help. They have lots of lanes and they keep their range very clean, with plenty of targets available. I got help from Tony Williams to get my LTC license. He was fantastic. Very efficient, and had his process down. He provided me with a fantastic packet detailing exactly what I needed to do in order to submit my paperwork. Definitely recommend! read more

This place is bad vibes. When I walked in the cashier would barely even look at me he just slid me the waiver slid me the rules and barely said a word. Mind you this is my first time I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. I came here thinking this is a place where you could come to learn...it's not. Even though it's their responsibility to keep their business safe and the people in their business safe they think it's your responsibility to tell them that you're not experienced. And then the guy that's actually the shooting room. He's the freaking worst. He was agitated from the moment I walked in and every little thing I would do he would nitpick and nitpick I was at a point where I was literally crying and HE WOULD NOT STOP YELLING. And I get it guns need to be facing downward, but if you are screaming at me from behind while I am shooting, I am instinctually going turn around to you because you're yelling at me for shooting the gun after youve yelled at me for every other thing. Begininers have bad reflexes DUH. They need to teach their staff how to have basic customer service and how to not panic because panicking has never ever made a situation more safe if your job is to maintain safety, it's probably important for you to maintain a decent temper. People are not doing you a favor by showing up to your gun range, there's about 50 gun ranges with an ear shot of this place. read more

In spite of earlier positive experiences with the general staff, today was a complete 180 degrees turnaround. The behavior of a staff member with a heavy south American accent completely ruined our relationship with Reds. Our previous plans to send 5 family-members through training there have been cancelled. Been coming here for awhile. Ive always respected the range and the people around me. Anytime I bring family members I make sure they have the proper safety practices and respect. There was an employee who was honestly just miserable to be around, constantly hovering over us and was very disrespectful and tried to imply I didn't know how to handle firearms, which was absolutely not true considering I'm a U.S. Army combat veteran. We held a door open for him since he was following us and he got mad and slammed the door, mind you it was in the man trap and we didn't open the second door until he slammed the door. Been going to Reds for years since they were down at Oak Hill. Lord knows the thousands of dollars I've spent there. In all those years, decades really, if I wasn't shooting, but shopping, I'd bring my dog. He isn't large, a beagle, and never aggressive as he stays by my side 24-7. I've never been refused entry with him. H‑E‑B, Central Market, and every gun store in Austin, to include McBrides and Blackjack Guns, Sportsman's Finest, and all the gun stores. He was with me when I went there last time and bought a hi-power clone $70 over retail. I drove to Red's from Bee Cave, and my son and I walked in like normal. No sign on the door but the guy inside said the dog had to go. So my business goes with it. There's simply too many places I can spend my money. See, he is more than a dog; he was gifted to me by a dear friend after my wife of 25 years died. He never left my side when my disabilities accumulated from 10 years as a paratrooper caused me to be a complete cripple for two years before the VA gave me some replacement parts and corrective surgeries. I'm a 100% disabled veteran still. So generally I take him everywhere I go. Red's personnel played with him last time so I'm puzzled at the change in policy. But change it has. I'm gun shy, pun intended, on giving the 5 star reviews...but this place was great. The folks here we're nice, knowledgeable, inviting. We're joking around minutes later as one of the guys was singing ace of base. Which is on the list of Geneva convention "not sutiable for torture, they couldn't have been that bad to deserve this." The range had a bunch of rules, and I get why. It's Austin with a bunch of granola Birkenstock with sock wearing hippies. Have to cya. Loved how clean and structured it is there. Huge selection of guns and ammo and accessories. If you need to shoot, buy a gun, ammo scopes, cans etc. This is your place. Went to Red's range today to check it out because I was referred by a friend. The check in process with simple and easy. The gentleman at the counter was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were in and shooting within 5 minutes of arriving. My first time every at a range was a little overwhelming but I feel that's to be expected. Don't mind the negative reviews too much. I've been going to Red's for almost two years. I never had an issue with the RSOs. Why not? Because I always handle my guns in a safe manner. Safety matters to everyone so I'm glad RSOs are keeping us all safe. This is the only indoor range in the area with 100 yard lanes. 2020 update: Had another great experience at this facility. The staff is awesome and exceeded my expectations. I had a question about my iron sights and they were very helpful. read more

I've been going to Reds since their Oak Hill location and every time I go in, I am more and more disappointed, not with the facilities or the pricing or the merchandise in the store. But the employees.. there's a serious attitude problem with some of the Gravy Seals that work behind the counter, a couple are helpful but most of the Meal Team Six act as if the customer is a complete moron. If you're looking to shop for firearms or shoot at the range they can help you out... it just won't be a pleasant experience with some employees. read more

Got called a jackass by an employee and yelled at because I accidentally shot the clip holding a target.

I've come a few times just for the range and have had zero issues with any staff. They get me in and out quickly; service is neither horrible nor exceptional, just good service. The target carriers are not electronic, so it may not be able to get the carriers to a precise distance, and the carriers are a little finicky sometimes, so that's why I'm giving the range four stars. I'd come back if I'm in the area. read more

I've been going to Red's for many years for all my firearms needs. Their indoor shooting range is great because it's air conditioned, well lit, & clean. It's staffed with helpful & courteous Range Officers who make safety a priority. Their firearms selection is stocked with a variety of pistols, rifles, & shotguns that is the best in the area with excellent prices. The salespeople are extremely knowledgeable on all their products with a no "hard sale pitch" approach. I recommend every Austin area firearms enthusiast to go to Red's to try them out before going elsewhere - you'll be glad you did! read more

Great range but be wary of the new shooters just walking around with rifles. Having a range officer stand behind a lady "clearing the weapon" and in reality just reloading a new round into the chamber from the mag still loaded doesn't make you feel to good. Especially when they don't stop them and just watch them do it. 100 yard parts cool but the staff won't look up from their phones for any questions. I'd still go back but if you're new to firearms just be prepared. read more

I recently checked out Red's to purchase a new handgun and I'm so glad that I did. The guys here are super helpful and courteous (Mark, I'm calling you out!;) and didn't make me feel stupid as a newer gun owner/user. I was able to try out various guns before settling on a buy. The range attendant was very friendly and helped me a lot. Overall this was a fantastic shopping experience. I can't wait to get back to shoot and to take my LTC class.
