I love their new location in Pflugerville. It's not only convenient for those of us who live in N. Austin/Round Rock areas, but it's really spacious and lots of natural light. I joined after seeing a promotion advertising three free months. After getting more details, I…read morelearned the offer required paying for a full year up front, which was not how I initially understood the advertisement. After enrolling, paying the signup costs, and purchasing required gear, I attended classes for a short period (month or two). During that time, I experienced multiple illnesses due to what I can assume a dirty/uncleaned Matt setting and ultimately had an interaction with a coach/member that caused me to discontinue training entirely. The coach informed me that another member was uncomfortable with me. I repeatedly asked what specific behavior I had engaged in so I could understand the concern and avoid repeating it. I was never given an explanation. As a new student, being told I made someone uncomfortable while not being told what I had done left me feeling embarrassed, confused, and unwelcome... I was so excited to belong somewhere and finally get back into something I used to love doing, and it turned disastrous very quickly for me. The following day, another coach acknowledged that the conversation could have been handled differently, which confirmed for me that the situation was not addressed well. When I later requested cancellation, I felt that my concerns were entirely dismissed and the focus remained on blaming me, and contract enforcement and termination fees rather than addressing why I no longer felt comfortable attending. This was my personal experience. Others may have had a different one, but I would encourage prospective members to thoroughly understand the contract terms, cancellation policy, and financial commitments before signing.

My husband has been attending for almost 3 years now and our daughter became interested after watching some of his classes. Next month will be a year since our daughter started and Professor Andre, Coach Eric, Coach Brayden, and Coach Stormy have been a huge influence on her and we credit them with helping her gain incredible confidence. BJJ has helped her grow so much on and off the mat in just one year. Professor Andre and the staff have such a way with the kids. Teaching them valuable qualities such as respect, hard work, discipline and leadership all while learning valuable self defense skills and the kids have fun every class! For parents of girls give it a chance! Our "girly girl" looks forward to every class and loves to show off her new skills to us. She even came to us and said her goal is to compete this year. Which I never would have thought she'd want to do. We have attended classes at the other sister schools in the area as well and they all seem to have the same quality staff there too. So if you live closer to another school you can't go wrong with any of them. Professor Fabio has done a great job recruiting an impressive staff that we are happy to trust our kiddo with.

Having been taught never to lay a hand on someone, especially girls, let alone pushing and grabbing, along with tumbling is still a learning process, but mostly positive. Its most difficult because he doesnt know what the martial arts is about. I even dont. Its not anout a knock out or hurting. He learns a move a day and may be repetitive the following day. But its not like karate where you might learn a move, repeat that quick motion, and move on. It had to be learned and almost instinctual. There are steps to follow for the move to be purposeful. Its difficult for my kid amongst others to comprehend and learn and that I (and theirs) need to pay attention from the narrow seating area to recreate at home to get the most of the teaching. Overall a good experience. Waiting to experience the Texas heat in the small space with large attendance. Btw, if you want "Brazilian" Jiu Jitsu, you'll get the emersive accent and light language barrier if you can handle it. Quite authentic culturally in this small local business. They seem to be very people loving, relaxed, yet strict with their dojo behavior as expected. I would actually appreciate more obedience and respect training like original japanese jiu jitsu.

Many years ago when we joined rise I would have never guessed how he would take to the program. I have to give credit to the school, the instructors, and their core teachings! They know how to teach... serious and solid but also know when to have fun and keep it light. I've watched my son grow up a lot in these classes... I'm very proud of the young man he is becoming and again I have to say... thank you Rise!
