I've always loved training in martial arts because it's a great way to get in an excellent workout all while focusing on continuous self-improvement, but I never imagined how much I would enjoy the community-focused gym environment at Fighting Fit. The coaches and fellow students are some of the friendliest and most welcoming people you'll ever meet, and there's something for everyone. For those wanting to meet their fitness goals and live healthier lives, the Fitness Kickboxing and Boot Camp classes are a fantastic workout, and the gym has a really active private Facebook group and frequently holds team challenges and other fun activities to keep you engaged and feeling like a part of the community. Coach Forrest and Coach Sarah even offer nutrition coaching to fully round out their holistic approach to helping members meet their health and fitness goals. Those interested in advancing their martial arts skills should also feel right at home. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy the Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. I highly recommend checking them out no matter your previous experience -- the coaches and other students will work with you at your skill level, and you may even decide to start training for competition like some of our members. Learning from Coach Corey has been the highlight of my year, and I've genuinely loved going to class to learn and practice techniques with my fellow classmates (as well as to spar with the more advanced students). While I'm moving out of state and unfortunately can't pack up the gym and all its members in a box to take with me when I go, I will never forget my Fighting Fit family! I highly recommend this gym for anyone looking for a new one to call their own.

This not a hype program where one ends up in traction after 2 weeks. It is designed to start you on a path that is comparable to your commitment. I would suggest that everyone with a weight loss and workout dream, that has been shot down by life's twist and turns, get on Sifu Forrest's next call. There are not enough instructors in each class, so kids will be practicing the moves incorrectly and no one notices. But the biggest issue is that the main instructor talks to kids a lot about bad guys and bullies, at first saying that the kids shouldn't use what they've learned in class on others, but then a very confusing several minutes later it sounds like maybe they should do just that? I don't see any emphasis on the self control and discipline that makes martial arts so valuable. Parents yelling on the sideline for their child to "get him! Make him hurt!" are ignored, the kids spar with other kids at very different belt levels since the sparring classes are open to everyone from beginners to almost black belts (with the one at the higher belt level told not to hold back, which kids do naturally because they don't want to hurt each other), discipline issues during class are dealt with with barely a consequence, and the emphasis is only on attendance and leveling up, regardless of anything else.

But this lady continued to harass me, texting me from different number asking if I wanted to use the trial still or maybe for somebody else after I had already told her no, twice. ARE THESE PEOPLE TEACHING YOUR CHILDREN DISCIPLINE AND RESPECT? because... YIKES. the place I was looking into, https://www.southaustintkd.com/ was the only place I was interested in because of their mission to instill these important life lessons and skills to help develop your children into respectful, disciplined, confident young adults. so note to this business. you didn't get my business because when someone who represent your business can not demonstrate restraint, cant take no for an answer and keeps pushing to get a "yes" then I have every reason to believe bullying and harassing others is something this company, that you represent, must condone this kind of behavior. These poor kids need to go somewhere that isn't just a money grab and find a place like south Austin taekwondo on Brodie lane. Watch the video on their home page, because THAT man who owns the business is clearly in it for the right reasons. i would never send my child here based solely on my experience being called by them once, not picking up, and immediately noticing they were calling me again, back to back to reach me and continuing the harassment via text using several different numbers (assuming so I can't effectively block them) Please. do better. Be better. I want to post the pictures of the screenshots from my text messages. If someone can tell me how to do that I would love to share what I experienced so you all can make a better- informed decision when it comes to taking your business to these people. Zero stars.

If you've ever attempted something only to regret having not attempted it 10 years sooner, then you…read morecould relate to my feelings of learning Ving Tsun at the Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy. Every time I attend a class is like adding another frame in my own 'preparing to face the ultimate bad guy' montage for my personal kung fu movie. I've been studying there for almost 8 years, and have seen the changes in both my mind and my body. They don't come over night and it does take a lot of hard work and determination, but on those rare instances when a cup of coffee inadvertently slides off the table and onto your lighting fast hands, it fills you with surprise and pride in yourself, leaving you wanting more. Sifu and Simo Vyvial have been very good to me. They are kind, supportive, and patient, but by no means are they the easiest instructors. While VT strives to find your physical weaknesses, Sifu and Simo will find your mental ones. The system and the instructors will work tirelessly to heal and strengthen you for as long as you let them. There will be times when it gets really difficult...really difficult. But more often there are days when you can ask yourself "How did I just throw 10,000 punches?" I actually have no idea how I accomplished that...I just did it. The system they teach is transformative in a way because in addition to growing your strength and agility, it also hardens your resolve as well. And I think that's why I love this school so much.

In my lifetime, I have done many things. I've played soccer and lacrosse and run track events. I've…read morestudied different styles of martial arts, ranging from boxing to traditional jujutsu. I have never found anything as rewarding and powerful as the Ving Tsun Kung Fu taught at Moy Yat Kung Fu Academy. When I walked through the door two years ago, I was as close to broken physically and emotionally as I had ever been in my life. I had been through a big medical crisis, had my depression, anxiety and ADHD were through the roof. On top of it, I was drinking a lot and my cigarette smoking was at an all time high. From the minute that I walked in, I could tell that I was in a place that was very carefully kept and deliberately arranged. Everything about it was cultivated, from the placement of the resting benches to the wooden dummies standing by the doors. The instructor who was there for my introduction lesson was informed, kind and was able to push me beyond the what I thought myself capable of. Over the last two years since then, I've been training alongside some of the most wonderful people in Austin. The teacher at the school, whom we call "Sifu", which is Cantonese for "teacher", is very involved in the growth and development of every student, but has a teaching style that is more about inspiration and leading from behind than over-teaching. More often than not, we are helped to discover things on our own and figure them out, rather than simply going through rote drill after rote drill. Sifu does not have an assembly line: while every student of his is recognisably his student, everyone's Kung Fu is very different depending on their personalities, bodies, etc. To me, this is the sign of a master teacher. He has passed on Kung Fu while completely maximising the natural capabilities and advantages of each student. These days, I'm stronger than I ever have been in the past. I'm not on knee braces any more. I've quit drinking. I don't smoke any more. The calm that I've found from the training has helped me not need the medications I was taking for depression, anxiety and ADHD. I am in every way a much stronger person than I was when I first walked in. Kung Fu is generous to you. There are some things that give you exactly back what you put into it, a linear, 1:1 ratio of reward to effort. Kung Fu's reward structure is logarithmic. You will get far more of out of it than you put into it for the first several years, with it slowly tapering off as you get to the decade mark. I cannot enough stress what a wonderful place this is and how much what I've learned here has made my life better. Walk in. Take a lesson. You won't be disappointed.

She looks forward to every class, is growing more patient and disciplined. Grand Master Pak and his daughter Ah Young both teach. Master Pak has high level black belts in multiple arts, as well does Ah Young. They are both very humble, kind, and patient. There students respect and adore them for good reason. I could not disagree more with the anonymous poster who said that this school is a money making scheme, nor is it "a belt factory". I've seen children and people in my own class not advance when they could not pass a test. Also, Ah Young is over the children and Master Pak comes to help when he is needed for the sheer volume of students or chasm between belts in a given class. A note about the chairs. These are tough, Korean people, who care deeply for their art. They devote the majority of the space to students and a small space to an office and chairs. There is honestly no more room for chairs and I have no problem sitting on a floor or standing. I've seen children grow confident and strong here. I've seen friendships made, and a family environment in place before I arrived. The family of students in my class has welcomed me in, stepped in to help me learn, and invited me to dinner and parties. But above all the deep respect that the 8:00pm students have for their teacher is incredible. They all wait on the store front for him to leave. They wait, then bow and honor him as he washes goodbye. His students truly love him and I am proud to be a part of something so great and genuine.

Master Pak has been very patient with me, helping me get back into TKD after a difficult year recovering from lower back surgery.
