It's been said that we live in interesting times and, thanks to a global pandemic, that couldn't be any more true. For our family, as we tried to navigate the challenges that came along with it, we needed to find a school that would work closely our two children, separated by just under two years, and help them learn (of course), grow (definitely), and become the person they were meant to be versus an "institutional follower." Our children are nearly as different as night and day. But, at Appamada, they found individual paths to advancing their education and developing their personalities that we couldn't find elsewhere. We had originally requested Academic Answers to help us construct a care team to mimic an inpatient…read moretreatment facility (our daughter's outpatient clinic recommended inpatient, but we didn't want to send her to one). Academic Answers LIED to us and told us that all three of the people they had spoken to on our daughter's current care team (psychologist, psychiatrist, bio-feedback practitioner) all agreed that she needed to be placed in a facility outside the home to improve her condition. When we called each care team member to verify this, they ALL emphasized that this was completely untrue, and they in fact thought the opposite: that sending her away would be more traumatizing given the nature of her condition. The team from Academic Answers recommended we send our daughter to a facility in Utah whom, upon research, had a nefarious and scandalous history involving abuse by the staff to the kids. Academic Answers advised that had been "decades ago and none of the staff was still there", however in our interview with the facility they had incidentally told us they had changed names several years ago but the staff was still the same.... When confronted with these facts and that the scandal was actually three years ago, the response from Academic Answers was "well that's almost a decade". In an initial interview with Academic Answers, we had asked about a certain facility (where Academic Answers had placed the child of the parent who referred us to their company) and they told us that place was horrendous, and they would NEVER recommend a child to be placed there. When asked for a refund, Academic Answers offered to return $5,000 of the $7,000 we had given them if we signed an NDA stating we wouldn't discuss our experience. If reading this saves even one family from these vultures, preying on families in a compromised situation who are desperate to help their children, it was worth it to decline that option.

There were hiccups on the road but the result turns out terrific. P has been early admitted by his dreamed school. We started to work with B2A in late June due to P's summer camp schedule, and the counselor initially working with us found another opportunity and would leave B2A in 3 weeks. Thankfully, after we informed Emily of the situation, she quickly assigned André to work with P. We couldn't be more grateful for this transition. André has helped P develop essay topics most relevant and resonant to his personal experience and kept encouraging him to be himself. P is strong academically but not much a leader type kid. His essay is touching but by far inspirational. P had disagreement with the head counselor after final-review, and after some back and forth email exchange and amendment, decided to submit without the head counselor's final endorsement by the end of October. Now we look back, it would be helpful if we had started to work with B2A weeks earlier in June. Hope our experience with B2A could benefit other incoming seniors.

The class size is not small and meets the standard maximum size. My son is currently attending WBLA and his class has the standard max size of 22 students (according to TEA). If you have a child with special requirements I would highly suggest looking elsewhere. I wanted my son to be tested for dyslexia and all I received was push back. A lot of things got ignored. I spoke with the local public school and had zero issues. For this reason I am pulling my son out of WBLA and into a Round Rock Public ISD school. We also had a lot of issues with bully's but the school handled the situation. They moved my son to a different classroom because there was a child in his current class with high auditory behavior issues. They felt it would be easier to move my child to a brand new classroom during the middle of school year cause my son would adjust better they said. Not even a month later they ended up expelling the child that was having problems. Go figure. Overall it is an ok school if your child doesn't require anything special such as gifted program, dyslexia, etc etc Update: I have since moved my child to Round Rock ISD and wow what a difference. I feel Athos standards were too harsh for young children. My son was coming home with massive amounts of homework in kindergarten. He was beginning to hate education. He dreaded going to school. They kept telling me my son was a tier 3 but refused to test him for dyslexia. Also, they were suppose to assign him a tutor but that wasn't consistent at the school so I had to hire my own private tutor. Now compare that to Round Rock ISD. My son loves going to school. Bully situations are properly handled. Within first month of school I am getting specialized testing. And my son WANTS to read. He loves school again and he isn't bombarded with homework. He wakes up excited. I hope my experience will help you along your educational path for your child. For us, going back to Public was better.
