I took the Beginners Firearms Class this past weekend and if you are new to guns the Beginners Class is well worth it. You learn gun safety and how guns work which is great for newbies. Both Lee and Raul are an excellent teachers and very knowledgeable from their respective military and law enforcement experience. The classes are informative and have lots of good detail as well as easy to understand. They brings their respective insights into the classroom and the class time went by very fast. Time on the range was good and both were present to make sure things went smoothly and make suggestions on how we were shooting. They both patiently answered questions in class and on the range. The only negative was the class was rather large (about 16 folks), but by splitting up the rooms when it went time for some hands on learning, it seemed to work just fine. Had to qualify for our LEOSA Annuals. This went smoothly, well organized, and in a safe manner. We were attached to a CHL class as they transitioned to the range for their shoot. 1630 hrs and still very hot outside. As uncomfortable as it was, there was no rushing or push to get us through. There was a hiccup with Roy's new scheduling system causing the wrong info to come to my email as far as appointment location for the CHL class I booked with him for my myself and my wife. Basically, we ended up waiting at the right time and day but at the wrong location. Needless to say we couldn't complete the course that very day... and I went back home frustrated. Long story short, Roy contacted me repeatedly over email and phone apologizing for the mix-up saying that he as a business had dropped the ball and he insists that we go back to take the course (he didn't do anything to "drop the ball" - his new autoresponder system did, but he felt personally responsible and that he must fix it). Initially I just wanted to have my money refunded and forget about it but his sincere desire to make things right made me agree to go back again. My wife and I went there, Roy remained as courteous as in our communication prior. Moreover, he was that way with everybody else who was taking the same course. We had a good experience and I'm glad that I decided to go back. Two things that I appreciated a lot were: 1) there was a guest speaker (it was a sales pitch but for the right product for which I didn't know about and was glad that I learned), and 2) the information I received in an email after the course made it so easy to apply for the CHL with the DPS. It was a bonus that at the shooting range he was most accommodating as well and spent the necessary time to teach my wife (who barely weighs 100 lbs) how to load and operate a 40 cal. handgun. Very knowledgeable instructor. Didn't know what to expect at first and I erroneously enrolled in this class thinking I needed it to buy a gun and keep it in the house. But, I was glad I took this class. I learned a lot and was able to shoot three different hang guns for free! I also don't own any guns and was undecided as to what gun to get and because I was able to use three different hand gun, I was able to feel and shoot from them and helped me decide which one I wanted. Raul is a great instructor. I truly appreciated that he spent extra time with me since it was my first time handling a gun, and my husband and I could tell that he really cared about gun safety. He even invited my husband and I back after the class for a free 30 minute tutorial on handling guns. We also liked the fact that he used to be on the police force since he could give us tips on what to do if we were stopped by the police. His wife was super helpful and informative, too! I don't know too much about all the politics involved in carrying a gun, but if you need a class to get your concealed handgun license, this one is informative and straightforward. read more

This was a great class! Raul our instructor was the good at explaining everything, making TX code make sense and answering any questions we had. The class wasn't boring at all. He made it all very interesting with good examples and person insight. The area we went at the range was secluded form others so it was easy to be able to follow Raul's instructions and commands. His guns were in great working order and clean. Most importantly, my friend who came with me is very nervous bout guns. Raul was very wiling to work with her so she can get use to this ever changing world and the guns she may see on the streets. He really seemed to help put some of her nerves at rest. You will notice that there is a comment added to my review basically calling me stupid and blaming me for their poor business practices. Best of luck if you choose to do business here, as I said before, their reviews are fantastic. Unfortunately, my experience with them - specifically this Raul, was worse than awful I am not new to gun ownership as he implies, nor am I a big jerk face or an idiot or dangerous as he implies. Maybe he's projecting a little bit.... I am seriously disappointed in this place. I read the reviews and was ready to sign up for classes and start building a relationship with a range in the north Austin area. I was looking for a specific gun and finally found it online through this shop. I read the reviews here on yelp & on google and proceeded to order since they look legit. I made that order and then in the morning tried calling just to let them know it was coming and see if they needed anything from me, etc. The phone rang, and rang, and rang and no one- not even a machine- picked up. So I tried a couple more times and decided to just stop by their store on my lunch break since it falls inside the open hours they have posted. There is a closed sign on the door. I thought, ok, they teach classes too...maybe they're short staffed today? Ok. Try again to call. And again. And stopped by later that day, still closed, nothing changed. Posted a review on another platform saying basically just that I had ordered an item online but either the place has terrible customer service or they're closed. Idk. I was frustrated for sure, and confused. Well, once that post went up, suddenly they DO have employees so this guy calls me, they got my order, but sent it back to the distributor in retaliation for my review. I have not received a refund- yet-it was just today that he told me he didn't like my review of his barely open shop so he returned my order- it can take a bank a little bit to process a refund, so I'm not saying he stole anything. Just haven't seen a refund or even any evidence that the package was truly returned. I will admit that in my frustration I hung up on this guy before I let my mouth run when he told me he didn't like my review so he sent my item back. Childish response to a childish man, I apologize. I was frustrated before- but now I am angry. This place is just awful. It looks like they teach good classes by the reviews- but I wouldn't trade with them again. I got my wife a gift card to safty measures for the beginners safty course. I went with her. The class was so informative and packed full of info. Before going to the class I was very afraid to handle not to mention firing the weapon. My wife and I really enjoyed the class. After classroom time we travel to the outdoor gun range. This was a great method to learn about handling a fire arm safely and well. The classes we took made passing the exam non stressful and successful. Class was informative and laid back. For those concerned about the support of open carry, so what? That's a personal opinion. He supports concealed carry. Open carry isn't a black/white topic. It can scare people, make it harder for police to do their jobs, and make you a target. I'd probably prefer to have open carry, but it's a stupid reason not to take the CHL class here. read more

Took my TX LTC class here. I have an OK permit and had taken the class in OK 10 years ago, but once I moved to TX and changed my drivers license, my OK CCW was no longer valid. Raoul, the instructor did a good job with the classroom portion. The one certainty of self defense laws and concealed carry laws is that some are very black and white, and some are very gray. Raoul did a good job of highlighting both ends of that spectrum. There was also a brief presentation (10 minutes) by Texas Law Shield, which is a pre-paid legal service for gun owners. Normally I would be put off by this sort of thing. However, it was informative, and given the serious nature of the subject matter, I consider it a public service to make people aware of the potential legal challenges of protecting your fortune and freedom in the unlikely event you have to protect your life with a gun. Raoul also did the range portion and it was organized, safe and efficiently done. My only recommendation concerns the break between the class and the range. The class runs from 9 to 1, and the range portion starts at 2:15. With Saturday traffic, it's about 45 minutes to an hour drive from the class site to the range. It leaves about 15 minutes to eat something on the way. A bit more time, or a plan for two groups -2:15 for those in a hurry and a 2:45 for those who want to eat would be be nice. read more

My son and I took an intro to handgun class in August 2017. Today, (1/6/18) we took the LTC class. Raul is very knowledgeable about the laws and guns. Both classes are informative and you get hands on training. Raul is respectful to everyone, regardless of your knowledge of guns. Safety is stressed and practiced in the classroom and range.
