The Range Safety Officer met me at my car and actually helped me carry my gear to the range. He went over the range rules quickly, helped set up my target and made sure I didn't have any questions. He didn't hover, but he did check in a few times to make sure I was doing OK. No egos anywhere with the staff. Everyone was polite and helpful. Will definitely go back. read more

What an absolute breath of fresh air this range was! It is an honest, exceptional range that has all you will ever need. Great, simple check in experience at a very appropriate cost too. I'll leave the best for last. The range officer! Wish I could remember his name. A down to earth, friendly and respectful guy that really upped the whole experience. Great chatting with him too, a wealth of knowledge. I am so sick to death of some other local ranges that see fit to employ range officers that can only be described as moronic mouth breathers. Never in my 36 years of life have I ever felt this comfortable at a shooting range. This is my first outdoor range and I definitely prefer it. The instructor, Hawk, was so welcoming and encouraging and I felt so incredibly safe. He makes you feel like family! The whole staff outside was so nice and really gave us the Texas welcome. We will definitely be back again. Next time, I'll be back with my guns. 10/10 would recommend. The owner, Tony, even came out to help us learn where we needed to adjust to shoot more effectively. Can't beat the price and the 1 on 1 help from Tony and his Boonie hat. The range could use some more shade in the TX heat, or maybe even some garage wall mount fans to cool folks off in the summer. I'm sure some 2A folks would volunteer to make it happen. Five stars from beginning to end. I brought my three daughters here for private instruction for four. We were greeted happily and promptly, given eye and ear protection and Tony (our instructor) walked us to the training range. We passed two separate well made, well RSO staffed ranges from what I understand one was rifle and one pistol. Can't wait to come back and try them! Back to our experience, perfect start to finish. I bought two hours of instruction for 4. $50/pp/per hour. Tony, Marine, has been an instructor for 35 years! We had a mix of skill levels, from me who shoots often to my 14 yo who has never touched a gun in her life. And he handled all of us with skill and professionalism so it never felt like anyone was behind or anyone was ahead. He first took us through establishing our dominant eyes, teaching sighting, gun handling and safety. Then we had four rounds of "drills"/shooting. Where we would shoot and then he would review with each of us what we are doing great and what needs improvement. My daughter who had never shot a gun started by hitting the top of the target and by the end of the day with his special instruction (he realized she was a visual learner so he drew pictures on her targe of how to line her sights) she was shooting all center target. YES, better than ME who has been shooting for years! WOW! He was fun, gracious, expert, and really made my daughters feel so comfortable and most important, CONFIDENT! Here are some of my daughter's comments about the day on our drive home "Even though I have been to the range six times, this was the best time I have ever had shooting" "I love the outdoor range, it felt so safe" "I have always been sort of nervous around guns. Not anymore, he made me feel so safe" "It was nice to learn all his tips and tricks, things you would never think of that help you get better. I had been doing some things all wrong. Showed up for the first time this past weekend to learn how to shoot. I was so nervous when I got there but by the time we were leaving I was laughing and smiling. Everyone from the owners to the other people shooting at the range were so kind, gave amazing advice, and helped so much. Terrific outdoor range on 183 next to Andice. The pistol range is great. You and the other shooters on the range just cooperate on the distance for the firing line for a session of shooting. The RSOs are very good and keep a close watch for safety- #1 priority, but don't breathe down your neck unless you're just not keeping your shit together. The rifle range is a bit more restrictive. You have to shoot sitting down only, and the longest section is 100 yards so you can get a red-dot or scope zeroed. LTC classes are held once a month, and Tony the owner has a lot of experience, and training and is very good read more

Been here 1 time last year, and I do plan to go back when I get time. For $20, I got to shoot as long as I wanted to. The range safeties were not breathing down our neck the whole time. I'm grateful for that, as I've been an RSO for quite some time in the military as well. The shooters cooperate with each other and as a collective, we go "cold" so we can go down range to check targets. I do recommend this place, and I will be back! read more

I have had several weeks of private lessons and have taken the LTC course here. I seriously cannot recommend Lonestar Range and Academy enough! Tony is amazing. The staff in charge today was extremely poor at communicating. I called ahead to ask about the weather conditions to see if the shooting range would be open before I made a 45 minute commute. After a sarcastic comment, that did not answer my question about the weather and being closed, he confirmed that they would be open at 3:30. When I arrived, the gate was closed and locked. I called the gentleman who worked there. He asked if I was the one at the gate, and then told me they were closed because it looked like it was going to rain. It was not raining at the time. To reduce future miscommunications, if somebody calls ahead to check weather the and their procedures for rain, please consider answering respectfully and clearly so they don't waste their time. read more

This is a terrific place to shoot. I was a nervous beginner, took lessons from Tony who is wonderful and helped me get over my fear. We visited for the first time and spent over two hours here. My fiancée had never fired a 9mm and is preparing to test for her LTC. We arrived early and Tony, the owner, worked with us one on one from the start. He spend a long time with us to make sure that she was confident and gave her a ton of great advice to consistently improve accuracy. I was visiting family for the holidays and looking forward to going to this outdoor fun range the day after Christmas. It was busy, as expected. Some of the gun range instructors had attitude. I almost felt like one of them was sexist. I had just gotten done shooting my handgun and proceed to turn the safety on and some guy (later found out was one of the instructors) is shouting at me to release the magazine but I couldn't hear what he was saying because it was super windy outside. Once I finally understood what was he saying, I proceeded to release the mag and then he starts shouting don't point that at me, don't point that at me. I was not doing it intentionally. It made me so upset that I didn't want to shoot anymore. Meanwhile, two of my family members continued to shoot their handguns and one of my family members told me that not long after that, the same instructor was showing someone how to shoot and pointed the gun in the direction of my family members and one of my family members told the other that was the instructor that had just yelled at me. At least my mag was empty. The gun he had probably had ammo in it. Y'all (Lonestar employees) need to work a little more on your people skills. People that go to gun ranges are either there to have fun (safely), learn about gun safety or just get some practice in. read more

They require you to wear close toed shoes. No flip flops. And that's really not a problem if that's your policy. But when it's your policy and don't tell anyone that's when i have a problem. The owners wife let me into the place and saw I had flip flops, then proceeded to take my money and it wasn't until I had all my gear unpacked that the RO came over and told me I had to leave. The wife was nice enough to call the owner (her husband) in to see if I could shoot since I didn't know the unwritten rule, then he starts yelling at her in front of me! My family and I enjoyed a little after shooting as part of our Thanksgiving fun. The folks here were great. Welcoming and helpful. It was a bit off the beaten path and muddy due to the rain but we didn't allow that to quelch the fun. We loved the fact that we could shoot just about everything that we brought with us. And that once we paid to get in we have access to any of the open range lanes that were available. Patrons were polite. My family and I visit the range pretty frequently. It's clean and well maintained. The staff is very attentive and friendly. They are very knowledgeable, will help sight in, and will work with you if you aren't familiar with your weapon. They have a handgun and rifle range, and a shogun bay. Stopped in today just to ask if the owner would let me set up my steels targets on his range. I was headed down to another, larger range another 30 minute drive... I am SO GLAD that I turned around and went to ask. Tony, the new owner, was there and greeted me as I came in the front door to the office. A very good natured and knowledgable man. He said there was no problem with the steel and then took me out to a range he said I could use. It was a bit muddy after the storm last night, but he said I could back my truck up to the beginning of the range. Then, after a bit of chat, he left me to set up. Yes, as he said he might do, he came back out when I began shooting. He seemed interested in the way I had assembled my steel targets (and was probably checking on my skill level). We talked a bit about more improvements coming for the range. I'll rate it 5 Star when the improvements are made. I'll be back. Every Saturday that I can.
