I've been a customer of GT since long before they moved to their new location (about 15 years). I will not use them again. I went online and saw their price for the Kel-Tec KS7 shotgun. There was no asterisk by the price. I called to verify that price and availability. After a long wait was told they had one in stock. I asked the female to verify that it truly was available because I was having the recipient of my gift, drive the 45 minutes to pay and pick up their item. She checked and came back to tell me they had also received another shipment and so they had at least one available. My son drove in and was told that the price was actually about $70 more than what I was told. Supposedly, that price was only for Law Enforcement - but again, not mentioned on their website (not even an asterisk) - OR on the phone when asked. He decided to pay the higher price listed in shop. But when he went to the counter, he was told that the item itself was only available to law enforcement. Then why have the higher price to the public even listed? When I spoke with the store manager - after about a 30 minute hold - I was told there was nothing he could do as the were bound by contract to only sell this item to LE. But, he wanted to let me know that he "was sorry." When someone is told they can drive 45 minutes in to pick up a gift because the store said it was there ... "Sorry" doesn't matter. Going forward, I can no longer trust this supplier. By the way, while holding for that 30 minutes, I heard numerous times about how they are sorry for the long wait, but that when a person answers, I'll "get superior customer service." --- This is "superior customer service" to GT Distributors? read more

I went in ready to buy 2 guns with my ltc, and even though they had some in stock, I was told they weren't available for "consumers". And I'd have to wait to order it. If there is any piece of equipment that you need, this is a place to come. sometimes their stock is limited but they will order it for you if they don't have what you need. The staff there is very knowledgeable and will be able to answer any questions you have, they might even have a better suggestion for what you need. It is my opinion that Tim Brown the owner and Vice President of GT distributors in Austin TX is the rudest most unpatriotic, Anti-American business owner I have ever met... I have never been treated so bad by a company owner or for that matter anyone... Especially AFTER spending $800 in his store, this is how he treated me. "His valued customer"... Let me just start off by saying I have purchased from GT distributors in Austin TX for years as well as many other FFL dealers in Austin, I am a member the firearms community, hold a CHL, a US Army veteran, and I support law enforcment and I make many yearly contributions to law enforcment agencies... So After waiting for 45 days my firearm finally came in! So I pulled a ticket and waited for about 35 minutes and the same friendly fellow that took my initial order was there and we began the normal process of check out. Everything went fine and I completed my sale in the sum of $811.00... After my purchase at the back gun counter I decided I needed another large flashlight and while I was looking at lights a manager came over... KEEP THIS IN MIND. There is NO current MASK MANDATE IN TEXAS, IT ENDED ABOUT 30-45 DAYS AGO... and there is MEDICAL EXEMPTIONS IN PLACE WHEN THERE WAS A MASK MANDATE... I was approached by this manager with a hostile demeanor and he rudly spoke to me with a mask in his hand and told me I had to put this mask on... Before I could even get the words out of my mouth to tell this manager that I was an ASTHMATIC WITH COPD and I can't wear a mask he told me I HAD TO LEAVE THE STORE... I have never been treated with such immediate disrespect by a company, especially after I spend my hard earned money at this business. I was honestly taken back by his attitude and loud "what some might call yelling" voice basically telling me to put a mask on or get out.... so I said to HIM send me his manager immediately. He sad he WAS the head manager and no one was ahead of him except the owner. OK... I said, get him.... I like their weapon selection, and there always seems to be a new gun to check out. Their holster selection is nice as well. Went in there store today to buy a Glock 23 4th gen with cash ! Sounds simple right? Well my wife wanted a handgun for the house and just to go target shooting. We own a Glock 17 so why not get a big brother for the family. Right away a salesman with glasses cant recall his name ask what we wanted to see. I told him the Glock 23 4th. He then ignored me and started questioning my wife if she has shot a gun before? I told him we have a 17 and he just kinda blew me off focusing on embarrassing her on gun knowledge. He showed her how to clear the chamber and drop clip off and were to put your fingers.. He then asked why a 40 cal? Is it really his business? Stick with a 9mm you ll get more shots off he says? Now this is getting annoying.. He goes on to say that she should go shoot a .40 cal at a gun range in Lockart TX. I told him we are from Round Rock and what about REDS? He shrugged and said no they are terrible. He must have a side deal with the range owner in Lockhart as he handed her there business card. How can a range be terrible? He said go get some BBQ and fire a .40 cal in Lockhart and then decide.. Wow! Were was the sale? Is he God? So I'm updating my review and rating based on my latest visit, which was definitely more positive. I worked with Justin this time, who was courteous, professional and overall pleasant to work with. He seemed to handle my transaction efficiently and as though he cared about my future business. I'm increasing my rating based on my interaction with him and the fact that the transfer process itself was pretty quick and painless, thanks to their online station that eliminated the need for me to fill out any forms in writing. Bottom-line, the place isn't bad. The product line is definitely geared toward the tactical enthusiast and law enforcement professional, so if that's your gig this is probably the place for you. Again, general sporting and hunting folks will probably not seek this as their "go-to" store and newbies may be a little too intimidated here. Will I go back? Possibly, but probably for only a firearm transfer or if I need something I know they have that nobody else carries locally. The first visit really didn't set well with me, and in spite of a more pleasant experience this last time it exposes the fact that the store is overall inconsistent in it's customer service. I was researching AR-15's, and phoned a friend, who happens to be in local law enforcement, for his opinion, and he told me about GT Distributors. Since then, I have bought some things here, including a Bushmaster M-4, (got a great deal on it, even better than shown on their website). The trip from my home in west Austin to this place is just under 20 miles, each way. I went today, realizing the red dot sight that I wanted was $50 cheaper, with free shipping, at Amazon.. However, I would rather do business locally, and made the trip up, to look at several things.. First, about price.. there are amazing deals on rifles/handguns/shotguns at GT, when they run their sales. But, if the items aren't on sale, you will pay way, way more than what the item is worth. The items I looked at today, including the $50 price difference on the red dot sight I've already mentioned, were all way overpriced, as compared to online. I guess, if you just have to have it right now, this is okay.. For me, trying to put together a decent AR on a budget, it's not that great.. However, that being said, I will always pay extra (to a point) for great customer service. I know that there are guys at GT who are very helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, etc, because I've dealt with them.. Today, I was looking at items behind the handgun/rifle case, and the young guy there 1) walked back and forth, visited, etc while I was standing there, obviously wanting help, and 2) when he did wait on me, made me feel like I was completely wasting his life by having to help me. I am serious, maybe he hates his job, maybe I wasn't in uniform, maybe he was having a bad day, but it was obvious that he just didn't want to answer questions, or help me in any way. I wanted to say something to management, and probably should have.. I would hope that they would have wanted to know about it, if I had a bad customer service experience there, although some places don't. So, I came right home, and purchased that red dot sight online, and saved $50. I also purchased several other upgrades for my AR online, business that GT will not get from me again. My review won't make a bit of difference to a lot of people.. A lot of LE people in there, and there's really nowhere else for them to shop, maybe. For me, I get AR ammo much much cheaper at Gander Mountain, (where Federal Amer Eagle .223 rounds are on sale for $39.99 per 100)! Again, maybe this guy was having a bad day.. But, when I take my money into a business, they need to drop the attitude, and at least act as if they appreciate my business, and that did not happen here today. Will I ever shop here again? This is an outdoors store. They have everything from guns to mace to flash lights. Speaking of flashlights, I purchased a rechargeable Strion Streamlight, LED HP for $120, This will be the only flashlight you will ever buy. It is sleak at 7" in length with a 38000 candela and 250 lumens weighing in at 7oz! It is both AC and DC. No, not the band, and, no not bisexual. It will mount in your house or vehicle! This thing lights up my entire backyard, literally turns night into day! It has 3 variable lighting modes and a strobe mode. This store is very popular with the police officers as they sell a lot of cop gear and uniforms. When I was in there looking at the flashlights a cop was all to eager to tell me how he liked his, and, how easy it was to whip out of his belt etc. I think he thought I was a cop. Sure, a couple of the guys behind the gun counter need to tone back the arrogance a bit, but you'll find that anywhere you shop for pretty things that go bang. Pricing is king. If you are LE or MIL and buying firearms anywhere else I think you a fool. Staff has always been straight forward and professional, but don't expect Olive Garden hospitality. I've bought firearms from them for about 10 years now (used and new) and not a single issue with product or transaction. My only caveat is that I'm a stone-cold buyer. I do my research and don't waste the time of sales personnel at the counter. When I walk into the shop I know what I want and I'm ready to buy - a seller's dream. Do that almost anywhere and you'll likely have a good experience. All that said, GT is oriented on the LE and MIL markets, so if you are looking for fowl guns, curios, or pointlessly tricked out pistols this is not the place for you. read more

"Toys R Us on Steroids," was the first descriptive thing that was said to me as I entered this immaculate store filled with grenades, ammo, and guns, oh my! The testosterone in the air was fierce. I was the only girl in the store at the time, but, I am not complaining (was like pure heaven!) The staff is intelligent, I saw many off-duty officers there buying whatever necessary, and I went along with the husband so that he could look for guns and accessories. The prices are excellent. GT is open to the public. I have never seen a store that sells these items look so pulled together. You have to see this place to appreciate the layout that is truly like nothing I have ever witnessed! In addition to maritime equipment, they also have a nice clearance aisle, with everything clearly marked. They sell Maxpedition Gear, and at great prices (some even lower than online through Mil Spec Monkey) and even similar brands that are just as good. Awesome story here: Working from home and noticed on Facebook that GT Distributing posted that they had lowers and a couple of Colt LE6920CMP-B which are the Magpul version of the LE6920 but they were the Cali compliant bullet button models. I posted that I was on the phone and I wanted one. Once I got on the phone and connected, I asked the lady if this could be converted and she said she didn't know. I didn't feel like taking a chance so I posted on the FB post that I would have bought it if I could have switched from bullet button to regular mag release. GT Dist, posted that it could be reversed and that they were holding a gun for me and to call back as soon as possible. I did and bought the gun, bought the new mag release parts and got my gun exactly how I wanted it. Oh yeah I paid only $1097 plus tax. Damn good company if you ask me. read more

I have now been to this store 4 times. Each time better than the last. The prices are fair, they typically have what I am looking for in stock, and they seem to genuinely want to help you out. Each time I go, I am greeted at the door, if I seem to be wandering around I am asked what I need help with, and one of the guys behind the counter stopped to explain ammo differences and limits so I knew which to buy for the range. I am new to the guns and ammo scene and have been truly enjoying myself and these guys have been very helpful in all aspects. I went in looking for a bachelorette party gift and left thinking I found my zombie apocalypse headquarters. Ha, all those suckers at WalMart and Sports Authority. No longer will I have to play favorites choosing which of my small dogs gets to be a hand grenade. Parking is ample (though as you can imagine filled with law enforcement cars), the store is spacious and laid out by simple sections. The back wall of guns finally let me get a real look at all the guns I've been using in video games. The staff was friendly and asked me if I wanted to look at anything. They have layway! A great store, always clean, they keep store hours, and the staff is polite and helpful. A clean gun store with no tin foil hat talk. The FFL transfers are very reasonable and the store always has someone in receiving to sign for the package. Good prices on clothing, holsters, duty equipment, and ammo. It's November 2012 and they are very busy please be patient. Please don't show up at 1:55 on a Saturday and expect to tire kick. Ordered a shotgun from Grab-a-Gun to be shipped to GT Distributors. As usual, I experienced a delay in the background check. At other shops it generally takes 15-30 minutes for the delay to clear. GT told me that they would call when I was approved to proceed. If I didn't hear from them I can pick up in a week. I called 3 days later but was told had not cleared, I could pick up after a week. After a week I showed up and they produced a receipt showing I was approved 10 minutes before I showed up. Funny, ATF has 3 days, not a week. Must have been a store policy. GT has a great selection of public safety equipment, reasonable prices, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. I've been a customer for about 3 years, and having shopped at other public safety product stores (and working for one many eons ago) in several states, GT is tops. They also have great sales quite regularly, usually for a given manufacturer's products (think 5.11 or Glock), and these guys know how to use social media (Twitter and Facebook specifically) to their customers' (and their own) betterment. I've made both departmental and personal purchases there and have never had the slightest problem, difficulty or unpleasantness. Consistently a very positive experience. Top score. Update 6/30/2010 Update to my update... I received a phone call yesterday from GT's Account Manager, Susan, who'd read my below update here on Yelp! She had looked into my situation, found the problem to be with an employee who needed a bit more training (issue was 5.11 was holding off on fulfilling a large order from GT until 75% or more of the ordered products were available; proper handling would have been for the employee(s) with whom I had spoken to request 5.11 to go ahead and ship my portion of the pending GT order, which I what I kinda thought all along....), and apologized profusely. She also offered to send me a small (eye of the beholder, but a reasonable amount) gift card as compensation for my less than stellar experience. Surprisingly, the card arrived today, the day after we spoke (especially surprising given the mail service here in Round Rock...) A good move, good customer service, good monitoring of social media, good research to match me up with my Yelp! identity; in other words, a nice recovery. GT is back on my "A" list for their handling of this. We all make mistakes; what distinguishes a good company from a mediocre (or worse) one is what they do when a mistake has been identified, and GT handled this right. Update 6/7/2010 Well, I have to write an update. As I normally do, I visited GT for their 5.11 sale on May 14th. I've been buying and wearing 5.11 gear since the days when their stuff was made for rock climbers. Great products and value, and the "5.11 Days" sales at GT can't be beat for price and 5.11 giveaways. As I usually do, I bought quite a bit of stuff. I had to remind the guy checking me out that part of the promotion was free packable windbreakers with purchase of pants (or boots, I don't remember which, I bought both.) The two different pairs of boots I wanted weren't in stock, and apparently are no longer normally carried in inventory, though they're available for order (even though they're shown on GT's web site, suggesting that they're stocked.) I was told they'd be happy to order them, and the discount would apply if I paid for them at time of order. I did so, and was told they'd be available for in store pickup in about a week. Well, they're not here yet, nearly a month later. I've been calling once a week to check order status. Before today, my last call was on May 28. I spoke to a couple different GT staffers who were very polite and helpful (excluding getting results...) I was assured that the boots would ship on May 29; 5.11 was actually having their staff work on that Saturday of a three day weekend to get caught up on shipments, and that the boots would be at GT for pickup by the end of the first week of June; and I'd get a phone call from them when they were in. Well, Friday came and no phone call. I called this morning, the young lady called 5.11 to check status, contrary to what I'd been told they didn't ship until 6/1 and are alleged to be arriving in the store later today. I'll find a new source for buying 5.11 boots at least. I've ordered directly from 5.11 in the past and never waited more than 5 days for a delivery of in-stock items (and GT confirmed that 5.11 had these boots in-stock back on May 14th when I ordered them; that's not an excuse.) I realize this was a small order, but I'm very disappointed with the time lag and the lack of followup. Basically, I've loaned GT several hundred bucks for a month or so.
