Visited Grounds for Coffee after reading that they had the best cinnamon buns in town. Definitely was not disappointed. The buns had just the right amount of sweetness and just the right amount of cinnamon. I had been hoping that the icing was going to be a cream cheese icing, but it wasn't. It is still really good. Since the cinnamon bun itself isn't too sweet having that sweet icing is really nice. The coffees were great. Rich and flavour, the macchiato was the best at complimenting the bun as it didn't combat all that sweetness. I'll be back, and probably leave with a half dozen of buns. read more

I've completed an entire degree at UBC, graduated, and the waited two years until I finally came here, and all I can do is ask why? All those years!! I have been told repeatedly of how amazing the cinnamon buns are, and how UBC Food Services sources them from here. Unsurprisingly, coming here and having one myself was so much better. There's a light crispness on the outside, and there is a generous serving of their cinnamon glaze. The sour cream was also a nice touch which complemented the textures and sweetness nicely. Their coffee is also solid. I had an Americano, and it is an acidic, but fragrant roast. The interior decor is really cute, and the seating is tight, but cosy. read more

I stepped off the 99 bus at Alma Street and basically followed my nose the short distance to this shop. The smell of cinnamon and baking pastry creates an intoxicating cloud that will weaken even the strongest of will. I ordered a box of 4 cinnamon buns to take as a host gift. I was hoping to reserve one for myself, and give the rest to my friends. Note that if you order a set number to go, you'll have to pay extra if you want them divided up among multiple boxes. They also give you a separate cup of their cream cheese frosting, so that you can spread it on later without creating such a mess (or, let's be real, eat it directly out of the cup, a la Goldie Hawn in Death Becomes Her). They've got the swirl to dough ratio down, and that frosting is uber creamy and indulgent. They open early--7am--so that you can easily pick some up for a morning meeting. Saw some very positive Yelp reviews about their cinnamon buns, went to check them out. It was around 5PM on a weekend, the place was fairly quiet. Service was decent. We don't typically use cash if not needed so the whole "no cash" thing didn't bother us. We grabbed a cinnamon bun (with icing, of course) and a small coffee. They ran out of small mugs so gave us a big one, which was a nice accidental upgrade. Didn't take us too long to devour the bun - it was soft and gooey, and not overly sweet. The icing was really good! One thing that would've made it a lot better if it was fresh/ warm - I guess we didn't come at a good time because the bun was room temp. It wasn't mind-blowing, and I hesitate to say it's "the best," but it was pretty good. Did not regret visiting, and if I come by the area again, I'd probably come visit :) read more

I spent $12 on an iced chai latte and a breakfast wrap, the drink was basically milk with some cinnamon in it and after waiting a while for my wrap I politely asked the woman making the drinks if it was still cooking or if I was in the wrong spot to pick it up and she responded with "it takes 5 minutes to cook. My boyfriend and I have been on the hunt for trying the best of the best cinnamon rolls. We came here today (Saturday) around 8am specifically for the cinnamon roll and there was already a small line. These cinnamon rolls come out fresh and taste better than any other cinnamon roll I've tried to date. They are soft, gooey, crispy/chewy on the edges and the frosting puts the perfect glaze/ sweetness in your mouth To add to the tasty treats, you can tell this place is serious about health safety as each employee had a hair net and a sign stating that employees had to wear them beyond a certain point in the coffee shop. I've never seen that in a coffee shop. The atmosphere is family oriented as we saw many families, just a little small so get there early. Good news! They deliver cinnamon rolls too!! read more

I think yelp should have a different scale for bakeries, or maybe some sort of ratio comparing 5-star rating to caloric content, cause lets be honest, even on a bad day, its no contest when rating ooey-goey balls of sugary buttery goodness. Was told I had to visit this place when I was in Vancouver and they were right! The cinnamon buns are amazing, I normally don't eat cinnamon buns because I find them too sweet and a bit too heavy for me. But their buns were great, so soft and buttery, you can even watch them make some in the back behind the register! The icing is also great! It's like a cream cheese icing instead of the regular all sugar icing. Overall these were amazing, a friend and I went in and said we were going to share one and ended up each having our own and then buying some to go! T have had their cinnamon bun a few times now and it really is delicious. They are soft, buttery bread buns that are not too dense although a little but sweet when topped with the frosting but not so heavy that you feel sick afterwards. Their cinnamon buns are good, especially if you like the extra gooey kind, but they only cover up some of Grounds for Coffees other flaws. Despite their name (Perhaps it's should be called Buns 'R Us?), their coffee is average and a bit over priced, even for Vancouver. The shop makes it clear that they really are focused on their take out business. The counter is located front and center making it awkward to get to the seating area with your order. Further examples of their take-out bias include: the keyed bathrooms, uncomfortable seating, self-serve coffee, and reliance on plastic cutlery. If you're in the mood to pick up an extra gooey cinnamon bun to go, check it out. But if you want to enjoy a coffee and conversation with a friend, Vancouver offers plenty of other coffee shops that are far more inviting. read more

So there was a chalk board sign outside that said "world's best cinnamon buns" and they weren't freaking joking! My husband and I were set to fly out to Vancouver early in the morning and our first flight was cancelled. We ended up waiting on a second flight that was delayed and started chatting with a bunch of Canadians and when one of them found out we were going to Vancouver, he told us we must go here for the best cinnamon buns you've ever had. At first, upon arrival, I was disappointed when I learned that they did not make any buns with raisins or nuts. We got six and ordered two of each kind they had- plain, iced, and iced with maple syrup poured on top. All were excellent, but I can't stop thinking about the maple syrup drenched bun! My buddy and I went here on a late Thursday afternoon after we checked out UBC campus. Dropped in here for a quick cinammon bun snack ($3.75) and coffee (for him, not me as I don't drink coffee). He said the coffee was pretty good. Hot and came in a pretty massive mug. Anyways, the cinnamon bun was delicious. Lots of icing that was spread pretty evenly over the bun. This is my go to place when I'm meeting someone from UBC because it is so convenient on the 99b line, which stops literally at the door. I think probably because it's so convenient and delicious, it does get a little too busy with students and it can be really loud and hard to find a seat. Walk in to smell a light, wholesome scent of cinnamon and sugar that is the perfect indication of this spot's specialty: cinnamon buns. Order one and it will be cut from the pan, slathered with icing and delivered up fresh in an easy motion. No icing is an option, but if you're avoiding sugar one of these gooey cinnamon rolls is nowhere near your eating plan. Definitely get yourself a knife and fork -- or risk being a sticky mess in 15 minutes. One bun is plenty to share for two people. This spot does close quite early (5 or 6pm-ish) so it's not the best spot for coffee shop loungers like me. I have to say, people are right! Grounds For Coffee has the best cinnamon buns in Vancouver. Their cinnamon bun dough is pillowy and soft. Even when it is two days old, I just preheated my oven to 300 degrees and then turned off the oven to warm my bun, the texture goes back to the original soft texture. I was extremely surprised at how there is a sugary and almost crispy glaze at the bottom of the bun. The filling is ooey and gooey and keeps the bun from stiffening. With or without the frosting, the cinnamon bun stands well on its own. Also the size of the cinnamon bun makes me very happy and full too. Definitely going to come back and try their buns when new seasonal toppings are available. read more

(My actual rating of this place is a 3.5/5) Came here with my bf after our trip to the Apple Festival in UBC Botanical Garden on an early Sunday afternoon. It was quite busy that day because most of them were students doing their homework or studying so it was quite difficult to find seats but at the end, we quickly found some. My bf had a mocha with soy milk while I had a regular drip coffee. His mocha wasn't bad but I prefer it have more coffee in it because it was quite sweet for me. We also shared a regular cinnamon bun that we asked to get heated up which was such a good idea because the cinnamon sugar on top melted between the layers which made it extra gooey. It was absolutely amazing. The interior part of the bun was tender while some of the outer parts were crispy which was quite delightful. Overall, I would say this is one of the best places to have cinnamon buns because they are fresh and bigger than most places. There were only two issues that I had about this place which one of them was that refills for regular drip coffee was $1 which I thought was quite steep and it didn't make sense to me that it was self serve too. Wouldn't the self serve coffees being unlimited? The other issue that I had were that the seating arrangements were way too close together so it was very easy to over hear the conversations of the people next to you. read more

For the drip coffee, you basically have your choice of either Strong, or Medium, in a self serve carafe. The cinnamon bun comes out nice and warm, and when you cut it open, all of the ooey gooey brown sugar cinnamon syrup comes melting out. The icing on top is probably what makes it so amazing though. I had spent the entire day pouring my heart, soul and malice into work and to put the icing on the proverbial cinnamon bun, I was off to UBC for a three hour night class. Needless to say, my spirits were dampened if not slightly moist from the Vancouver summer rain, and in the moment I was not my usual sunshine-cheery self. I stood on the corner of Alma and 10th- exactly 1 and 2/8ths of a concrete slab away from Grounds' front door. I warn you that if you stand at this exact location, you don't stand a chance, buddy. Before you know it, one of your feet is already through their door- you just haven't physically done it yet. Their windows were open, their baristas were smiling and the odor that wafted straight-up my nose and into my brain just screamed, "I can't TAKE It anymore!" I ordered a baked good topped with white goodness. It was large, it was warm and it was mine for only $3.50. I snuck my first bite during class as it was blatantly staring at me in the face; long sessions of masticating and waiting for the goodness to melt followed by soft echos of, "mmm" wasn't the greatest co-activity with note-taking, but I made it work. I managed to save a piece of the taste cyclone for later on in the evening. As I peeled away the layers, each strip evoked a heightened cocktail of cinnamon and sweetness compared to the last. Pick me up for the entirety of our acquaintance, then knock me down once I've finished your last morsel. Albeit, pun intended, you did save the best of you for last, my little vortex of happiness. Cinnamon rolls are baked Oooey gooey goodness! I do wish it was a bit hotter but it felt so sinfully good biting into that baby. Found them on Instagram and I'm so happy I did!
