I used to visit this spot many years ago, but it had been a long time since the last time. Recently, someone mentioned the words "cinnamon buns," and my senses immediately heightened. I instantly remembered the ones from Grounds for Coffee! I could practically smell the cinnamon and sugar in my mind--I knew I had to have one! I stopped by for dessert around 7 pm and asked for the cinnamon buns to be warmed up. It was perfectly ooey-gooey, and the amount of icing was spot on. The overall flavor was well-balanced (not too sweet, in my opinion). I paired it with a black drip coffee, and alternating between the sweet treat and the bitter coffee was just what I needed. We sat at a nice side table and played some fun word games while we ate. It's a cozy place to spend time and enjoy a sweet treat. I would highly recommend this local favorite if you're like me and are always down for a warm, gooey cinnamon bun! read more

I'm not sure what happened or maybe it was a one off experience... Grounds has been my favorite cinnamon bun place in greater Van as their buns are so cinnamon-y. I tried ordering through their app to use points but the app was so hard to use as it kept going back and forth the same page. I got the cashier to help and she kept apologizing that it's so confusing and complicates. Even she had challenges with the app. I got my usual bun with no icing. When I sank my teeth into it, i was like huh? So i ate another bite and had to examine my bun afterwards. The bun only had some dark brown cinnamon spots at the top. There are some really good vegan treats - I especially was a fan of the vegan cheese bun, which struck me as a unique (and brave) offering for a non-specialized vegan bakery. Totally scratched an itch I didn't know I had to eat something with gooey melty "cheese" without actually involving any cheese, and the bread bun itself was amazing. Tried the seasonal pumpkin cinnamon roll today! I must say this is a favourite. Although you can taste the pumpkin a bit, it's not screaming pumpkin. Nonetheless, It's perfectly autumnal. I prefer this to their regular cinnamon rolls, which I find to be too sweet sometimes. I also recommend the pumpkin spice latte. I'm not a big fan of coffee but I really enjoyed Grounds'. It's a cosy little coffee shop. There's not a lot of seats inside so you expect to not find a table for yourself most of the time (although I've been lucky to have been able to sit down every time I've tried to). It can be a little loud when the door's open because it's right behind a very busy bus stop. The staff is very nice and they give chocolate out to new customers. Returned on a cold rainy Friday morning. I could smell the cinnamon buns a block away. The cinnamon bun was warm and gooey and tasted so good....exactly as one would expect the best cinnamon bun in the city to taste. A nice little spot, I really liked the open view into the back area where you could see the kitchen. Got a PSL and a cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll was delicious- perfect amount of cream cheese to bread ratio and the cinnamon glaze inside was really nice. Drink wasn't notable, tasted fine but a little miffed over a $2 up charge for a seasonal drink but that's Vancouver (like $7 for a medium). Overall a bit expensive and little to no chance of sitting due to tiny inside (granted this is a holiday so unsure of how it is on a regular day). Also no straws, be warned. I will be honest that my main reason for visiting was my brother in law told me they have amazing cinnamon buns so my usual coffee review focus does not apply. This unsuspecting location on Alma I've passed many times and did not notice, some of the windows are covered in posters/signs so it's easy to miss. There is no parking in front but on 10th there seems to be plenty. When I drove by I could see a line up, was a little concerned it would be a long wait, it wasn't. When you enter you can see it really is a bakery, open kitchen format with 2-3 bakers present. Very cool to see the cinnamon buns under construction, periodically a fresh batch coming out. These babies are HUGE, and yes they are really good. I like icing and there was a lot but also for those that don't, you can order without. For orders of 1pc they have cute little boxes, nice touch. The cost is commensurate with the size offered. When I took my order they were still warm, amazing. In addition to cinnamon buns they have a substantial variety of muffins and other baked goods, some gluten-free. All offerings were big, fresh and really good-looking. I did not order coffee but could see that also moved at a good rate. There is some indoor seating, the decor is older and homey.
