I absolutely hate to have to give Guillermo and his crew 3 stars but there was a just a couple big mishaps that we can't ignore. Here's a breakdown of the good and the bad.
Initial quote:
4 stars--
First off I was the most impressed from the response and communication I received initially from him. It was at the lower end of the quotes I got (not the lowest) but by based off the knowledge they offer, I just went with it since I was doing a Semi big project. Also, they were super flexible on our budget to the point where they did some scope of the work and were ok with us doing the remaining to save on $$. Super plus.
The time management :
3.0 stars--
What should have been about a week or two project took about a couple weeks longer. No big deal but the communication was a little lack luster. We never really knew when they were coming back unless we reached out first.
The crew:
4.5 stars--
The crew. I am always amazed and give high respect for the people who do manual physical labor on the hottest of days. It is truly hard work.
Quality:
3 stars overall---
2 stars on grass/ 4 stars for everything else.
We had a sidewalk ,some rough grading done, and benda board put in.
No issues there.. it was just a bonus that they did "other" work. We did have to redo some of the benda board since it wasn't placed deep enough but whatever.
The grass is another story. Initially it looked great. We got great tips to maintain it. Watered meticulously per their instructions 3x a day. Then noticed crab grass growing... ok? Kind of early for it. But we don't necessarily have the best surrounding turf so we gave benefit of a doubt the seeds flew in. (**Though we thought to ourselves that they never really prepped the dirt prior besides removing the original crabgrass and grading the ground).
Anyways, few weeks later we took the suggestion to fertilize it which killed half of it (which we took the blame for since we didn't know what we were doing).
Not a huge deal. Just a setback for us $$$ which we took responsibility for.
But...As we are pulling the sod to replant (off their project at this point), soo much crabgrass was growing below the sod (not in the top layer sod). We're now thinking this was because it was actually not treated properly to begin with. Now we will always have this issue unless we start from scratch. Sigh. It's just been frustrating after the fact knowing a little better prep work may have prevented this.
So! Alas, we have the final review. A lot of pros but just enough big cons that we will have to fix for the money we spent. read more
