After tolerating several different fencing companies and the variety of job estimates, we were pleasantly surprised when we met Josh Tucker of AJM Construction. A Company that his father founded over 40 years ago, providing a variety of construction services. Josh made an appointment within a few days and was extremely professional and knowledgeable in providing an estimate via email the same day. The terms of partial payments were in accordance with State Contractors law and regulations. I mention this because we had two estimates that wanted 50% or more up front which is a huge flag and also illegal. Having a shared rear yard fence replacement done means coordinating with your neighbors. Josh was easily agreeable in meeting with our neighbors at their convenience and providing separate billing invoices for the shared costs. After scheduling almost 3 1/2 weeks later we had an installation date. Suddenly I was hospitalized and this meant my wife was very busy. I felt confident, as did she, having Josh and his crew go ahead with the work without any immediate supervision from us. For the 3 1/2 days the crew worked incredibly well in making sure everything was handled. This was a great relief to both my wife and I. Another plus was Josh and his crew handling everything. With Josh on site each day, they removed the old wooden fence, trimmed tree branches that were obstructing the new fence line, and chipped out the older post concrete. The post holes were widened, new pressure treated posts set, followed by new concrete poured to above grade to prevent wood rot. With the string line up, new redwood fencing was assembled after being primed. Once up, the fence was painted with two additional coats of two different paints. White for my neighbors to match his side fences and an off white matching our stucco retaining wall below the fence line planter. Great care was taken by the crew to cover all plant life and trees from paint and damage. We would highly recommend Josh and his family business for any of your Construction needs. The crew of Josh, Trinidad, and Alberto were extremely clean, professional, kind and thorough in their work on our fence and surrounding property. read more

Called them Friday and they were able to come out Monday and fix my patio. Great service and great communication. They also fixed it in a way that would prevent the damage from happening again. Father and Son business. Highly recommended. read more

I highly recommend AJM. They have built fences and gates for us and have always done a great job. Rapid response to calls and great follow up service. I've referred neighbors to AJM for fences and they have been happy with their work as well. read more

Josh, the project manager, was awesome. I reached out to redo my fence as it was damaged from the January storm. He came out to do the measurement and gave me a quote within 24 hours. The pricing was very fair. His crew came out on time the day it was scheduled and finished earlier than quoted. I'm very pleased with their work quality and service. Strongly recommend! read more

AJM construction rebuilt our slumpstone wall as well as built a plexiglass fence for our backyard. Josh was the project manager who was timely, communicative, and professional. The cost was competitive. I would definitely use again. Thanks! read more

I can't say enough good things about the team at AJM. They replaced my fence, repaired and painted an backyard interior wall, and painted my front pillars--all with a level of professionalism that's hard to find these days. Josh leads by example, never hesitating to jump in and work alongside his crew. We appreciated his dedication so much that we asked him to quote us for a pergola replacement. You won't go wrong hiring Josh and his team--they truly deliver quality work. read more

Project went well. Finished a very long fence and made other repairs in 5 days. Fence looks great now.

Well, I wish a could give a good review, but unfortunately after very prompt conversations via text with Josh Tucker and confirming an appointment for today between 9-10am, they seemed to have forgotten to show up, follow-up or put this appointment on their schedule. This is exactly why people should contact multiple contractors when quoting projects. I'm sure they do a great job, but punctuality and communication is vital in sourcing a consistent contractor, and one who you'd be happy to refer to neighbors and family. read more

I can highly recommend Mike and AJM with all confidence. They were the company me and my neighbors chose to replace our old rotted wooden fences that 3 homes shared. Not only did they do an incredible job with that but made it painless for us to split the cost between 3. I thought I wrote a review for that job but realizing I did not as I'm now coming back to write a review on a second job I asked Mike to do. Replaced my Dad's broken down fence. Great pricing but more importantly, they did an incredible job of high quality where others could have cut corners and again they were so easy and great to deal with. They added extra hardware for a second latch for security without me even asking. They inlaid 4 x 4s into the brick to promote strength and longevity. Absolute top notch craftsmanship! read more

Adam, Cory and Mario did such an amazing job. I am very picky and this is the crown jewel of my backyard, so my expectations were high. They blew them away. I had several last minute changes and they listened and executed. It was really a fun experience as they are all nice and good people. Showed up on time, left the area super clean everyday and the quality of the work is next level. Their expertise was impressive and were able to make more storage room than I had planned. From the first email they were very responsive, even after the project was over they checked in multiple times to make sure I was happy. I recently had a new fence built by AJM on my property in Huntington Beach. I must say I was very impressed with their Workers: Hard Work, Professionalism, Craftsmanship, Solution Solving, Promptness, Courtesy and Cleanliness. Mike gave a very reasonable bid and exhibited a honest desire to produce an excellent product without trying to increase his profits with change orders as many others do. This review may impress you more, knowing that I have been a licensed Architect involved with construction for over half a century, so I'm not impressed easily.....Thanks Mike & your Crew! Quick to respond, and pricing was fair. Was able to build a new fence and have it installed within a few days.

So in love with our new gate! A few companies were trying to talk us into getting vinyl, saying wood was hard to get with a wait time of a month and more expensive. Mike not only made it happen within days, but saved us tons of money and gave us a beautiful red wood gate that we've been dreaming of forever! We felt good about using a family business during this crazy time and his workers were fantastic. Highly recommended. read more

OUTSTANDING SERVICE!! I had sent messages to 8 different contractors from Yelp. They others were all over charging me and telling me that in order to fix my metal gate it would be a minimum of $180 to $250 and some told me they would need to bring out two people because the gate was heavy. Seriously? I am ableto move the gate around by myself. I ended up going with Michael Tucker because he was honest and very professional and stuck to the price that he quoted me. I sent all the other contractors the same pictures so they know what was happening with my metal gate. It was falling out of the retaining wall. Michael came out and help me fix the gate and now it is stronger than ever. I would highly recommend him for any work and he is highly experienced from home remodeling to construction work to landscaping. Thank you so much and I appreciate the professionalism, honesty and great service. read more

Mike and his team, Sammy and Leon, did an excellent job replacing my old gate with a new custom-built one. He was able to schedule the job one day after I agreed to it, so the turnaround was much faster than I anticipated. I wanted a specific arch-top design which I saw on the AJM website. The price was fair, and Sammy and Leon cleaned up every last bit of construction debris. Very happy with their work! read more

I own an old house (1956)....the equally old deck was dated and the fence surrounding it was falling apart, the whole thing was a mess but Mike Tucker and his very professional team have transformed the 'big mess' into a very cool area. It was a lot of work but they raised the deck making it level with the house. The trek flooring is up to date and beautiful, the double sided redwood fence makes a statement and the portico with the adjustable sail cloth provides shade when necessary or left open for maximum light. Everything is absolutely beautiful and I couldn't be happier. My neighbors are pleased to have something nice to look at other than the 'big mess'. Can't thank they enough! read more

There isn't a rating low enough for AJM construction. I contracted with Mike last year starting May 6th 2019 for a kitchen remodel. I should have gone onto Yelp originally, as I see it says "Fences, Gates, Masonry/Concrete. That should have been the red flag for me as it does not say Kitchen remodels. Mike had his Subcontractor Andy do most of the work. Day 1, demolition day.....pulling out cabinets, dragging out appliances and nothing was put on my wooden floor to protect them. I had to call Mike to tell him they needed to cover the floor. Andy couldn't put together a tinker toy if his life depended on it. Poor guy....it was just a job to him...did not take any pride in his work and Mike didn't care. As long as Mike got his money he didn't care. Mike never came to check on the job and only showed up 6 weeks after the demo day as my interior designer had a "come to Jesus" meeting with Mike as she had a punch list of things that need to be fixed. Andy and his assistants were slobs. They left trash in the front patio with their dirty empty styrofoam food containers and empty beverage cups. Disgusting. Tile and backsplash installation was installed incorrectly even after the interior decorator came over and had drawings for the tile guy but he still didn't get it even after having the drawings. But, that was a $1,000 mistake that I had to pay for. Appliance installation done by Andy. Range had no gas- all weekend I am trying to trouble shoot the problem...yup Andy forgot to turn on the gas valve. What sort of contractor leaves a job without checking to see if the appliance is hooked up?....Answer Andy. Dishwasher hooked by Andy.....I noticed water mark on back of new shiplap wall behind dishwasher. Called Mike and he said "I'll send Andy". I said no way. Mike came over and pulled out dishwasher. Dry as a bone. However, there was a water leak that was inside my new cabinet- I mean full of water....Andy did not tighten a connection properly. My under cabinet lighting per contract with Mike was never completed. Wiring was done by Andy, and when I finally had an electrician come to finish....This contractor could not believe Andy's work- he was perplexed and said - boy- He did not do you any favors. It was completely done incorrectly and poorly according to the Electrician. I could go on and on. If you're getting something simple like a fence or gate (simple projects) you're probably safer. But if your thinking about a major remodel that includes electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, etc- don't use AJM. There are lots of contractors that take pride in their work and the employees or subcontractors they use. This job was way over AJM's ability. Buyer beware. Don't be stuck with a Pandemic contractor. You will be sorry. Economic loss, and you're literally sick with the quality of work. read more

Mike and his crew do excellent work. I plan to use the for all of my construction and landscaping needs.

Mike has worked for us in the past and were very satisfied with the work. Mike's team was here timely, and completed the work as promised and on schedule. The last project (fencing around an 11,000 sft property) has stood the test of time over +10 years. This time we had Mike add some gates and replace a section (50 ft) that water from sprinklers damaged. A few drama's along the way with this last project, but Mike immediately made things right. In the end we were completely satisfied and would recommend them for a project similar to ours. read more

These guys did a great job on the fence and gate they just installed at my home in Long Beach. Outstanding professionalism, on-time, on-budget, skilled carpentry on the tricky pergola, which looks incredible. Jay is a delight to work with - great project managing, very available, easy to communicate with, and responsive to design changes that became necessary. The end result is fantastic, and all my neighbors are now coming by to ask who did the work - seriously! I am happy to tell them it was AJM and send them your way. Thanks guys for a job well done. For reference- we did a PVC fence along the property line, with two wooden gates opening out onto the driveway, and a pergola over the top. Jay's guys wired up the gate posts for the lights I'd picked out, and installed the locks I had bought to match my house locks. Great job on all of the above. read more

You mean I can only give 5 stars? What a company, what a crew, what an owner!! From the design phase to the finished product, we couldn't be happier. Mike Tucker is like an old friend, so easy going and accessible that you feel as though you are his only customer. He doesn't say, "I'll get back with you about that!", he takes care of it immediately and his communication is unlike anything I've seen in this industry. During the project, there were a few things that needed to be taken care of that were not in the original plans which for MOST companies out there would have caused major delays and added cost, but Mike took care of these things to keep the project on schedule without nickel & diming us. He is fair, honest and straight forward about what's going to happen and Mike MAKES it happen! Mike surrounds himself with highly skilled professionals who take pride in their work, he has a cache of talent who are the best at what they do. Whether it's electrical, forming and layout, stonework, sprinkler systems, demo or the most seasoned concrete finishers, Mike's got the right guy and he manages them perfectly. The problem is when some contractors know you are volnurable and tired, and need help, they take advantage. I had variety of small jobs to get done around the house. Per our agreement he assured me it all will be done and gave me an estimate. I was fine with it. Every day, he would tell me the job is finished, I would go and see it isn't done. He would redo the job and something was always wrong with it. I had a good experience with Mike when he did our outdoor wall, but indoor small jobs, I could have done better. I had a couple of gates redone to match the fencing that I had done previously, and everything that I wrote about AJM back then continues to apply. Manuel and Luis even worked through intermittent rain to ensure that the job was done on time, which I greatly appreciated. On top of that, my neighbors later commented on how good the gates look, with what I sensed as a slight pang of jealousy--isn't that what we all ultimately want out of our homes? (; read more

He did not follow the plans for the whole wall. The plans for the concrete block retaining wall called for vertical steel every 16", a double rebar bond beam across the top of the wall, and fill the entire wall with concrete prior to putting the caps on the top of the wall. Two thirds of the wall was built this way, but the rest was missing the concrete fill, the top bond beam, and half the vertical steel. The remaining steel was just loose in the wall since there was no filler. The 1/3 of the wall began to fail about 8 years after construction. At first it was subtle. Recently it got worse, so I investigated and found the extent of the errors. read more

Whatever you do, do not use this company! I just got done with a 3 month nightmare that should've only been a 4 week project. I have never written a negative review, but feel it is necessary so others don't get burned. I would not say this without just cause, so I'll share with you everything we went through: -Block wall along back property line: the only part of project that went well -Gas line from meter to new fire pit: the trench collapsed once the landscapers placed the sod and landscaping requiring the landscapers to compact trench and replace sod. - Firepit: beautiful stone work, but built it 1' larger diameter (7'total diameter) than requested. This equated to an extra $1700 in cost for fireglass, larger burner, and filler. Gas line running into fire pit rusted prior to burner and fireglass being installed. Precast cap never fit correctly and they ended up cutting it up into 1' segments which takes away from the point of having precast cap-not smooth and round and ton of joints. While cutting the precast cap on the new flagstone pad, they ruined the finish on the flagstone (now stained with white concrete dust). - Concrete on side of driveway: did not grade as I asked creating a 8" step up from neighbors walkway, concrete splatter on side of house, did not create joints every 6' as code says. A simple tasks and the carelessness of the crew created a mess for me. - Flagstone pad: grout was cracking and stone loose one week after installation on a handful of pieces, did not advise on how to protect and maintain after installation, once they replaced loose stone they used different colored grout and looks hideous, after I sealed it the crew cut the precast cap on this stone and ruined the finish. Have powerwashed and sealed again and still ruined. They have no intention of fixing this problem even though it was there carelessness that created it. This was the end result of a multitude of variables: crew carelessness, bad work ethics of crew, not a high regard for customer satisfaction. The crew never fully cleaned up each day. Left their saws out and material laying wherever. They left concrete forms on for 2 weeks until I ended up pulling them off, left pile of dirt in driveway for a week after they were offsite, all excess material was left in middle of project with no intent on cleaning up which was in way of landscaper (who ended up picking up after them), never fully cleaned stonework after complete. Just a lack customer satisfaction displayed. The crew never showed initiative to try and complete project. It was critical they completed their portion so the landscaper could come in on a scheduled date. This date was delayed 10 days and I nearly lost the contract with the landscaper because he was scheduled to go on other projects. Even with the 10 day delay, AJM did not complete all of their tasks. There was no urgency displayed to stay somewhat on schedule. The crew would work 6 hours days and sometimes not show up at all with the claim they had to go "get material" nearly everyday. I told them if they worked full days we'd be on schedule. Truly pathetic work ethic and management. I asked the bosses to have them come on a Sat or Sunday and they could not make it happen, and even could not commit to have them coming on weekdays. I will admit, the managers were going through medical issues during this time so I was sympathetic to that. But looking back, the crew could've been more committed. Customer satisfaction was the worst part. Not once did they ask "are you satisfied". It was "it is what it is, this is what you asked for". I asked Mike to beautify the flagstone again after the crew ruined it, and this was totally neglected. I asked Mike to pay for the replacement of the rusted gas pipe, and he stated "it's was only exterior rust, not big deal" so this was $400 out of my pocket. I asked them to clean the concrete splatter off the side of house and no response. I asked him to pay the landscaper for fixing their collapsed trench and he blamed everyone else. And then the simple things like picking up after yourselves, this even took prying to make happen. Sorry Mike, this is the result of your effort of trying to neglect my simple requests. Total opposite of the other 3 contractors I dealt with on this project. read more
