My wife and I have a new-build that required additional landscaping of our backyard. We eventually decided to go with California Outdoor Living after reading all their positive reviews on yelp. In addition their quote was very competitive if not the best when looking at other contractors. We already had a design in mind for JC which made the process very quick. Although there was some misunderstanding with the design and drains throughout the process, JC was always responsive with his texts and quick to make adjustments. The moment we got our design approved by our HOA, the construction happened VERY FAST. We emailed California Outdoor living on a Wednesday evening of our approval. The very next day (Thursday), JC arrived to go over the outline. I do appreciate how fast things were done, but it was almost to a fault at times. They were ready to go by the next day but my wife and I didn't feel like we had discussed the plan and execution thoroughly enough. On Friday the construction workers were already digging out our backyard. They spoke only Spanish so communication was very difficult to ensure if our plan was executed appropriately. By Saturday all of the pavers were laid out. Construction was incredibly fast but because of that some details were lost in translation. We discussed with JC that we wanted an 11x14 ft paver island. However the final dimensions was 12.5 x 12.5 feet. We also wanted all the walls of our backyard to be lined with turf. However the paver border ran too close to one of the walls, that putting turf did not make sense. They only left 1 inch between the wall and the paver (see attached image). We appreciate how fast the work was done. The overall work was great BUT not exactly what we wanted. We felt rushed with the whole construction process. However everything was done in less than a week which was incredible! In addition, once the turf was laid out JC noted that window reflections from both our neighbors and our own windows would cause damage to the turf. He informed us this can happen sometimes. Going back to rushing things and not being thorough, we wished JC took the time to look at our backyard and factor in this possibility. If we had known the reflections could damage this area we would have changed our turf design. At the end of the day they are just executing our design, but it's these minor things that left us feeling like our backyard could have been better. However we are still very thrilled with the overall speed and communication done throughout the process! Would still recommend this company. But these small critiques are definitely something to keep in mind for future clients.

The drainage tube was installed with the slope going the wrong direction, and the walls were not properly covered before the concrete was poured, leaving concrete splatter all over the side walls. The concrete also cracked less than three days after it was poured. It was poured on Monday morning, and on Wednesday the artificial turf guy was using a large plate compactor right next to the two-day-old concrete. I believe the vibration from that equipment contributed to the cracking. When I spoke with JC about the issue, he told me that concrete will crack sooner or later and that is why they do not warranty cracks. Concrete was poured directly on top of the soil, no gravel was brought first. While I understand that concrete can crack over time, I did not expect it to crack before I had even made my final payment. Despite my disappointment, I paid the remaining balance. After that, I never received any follow-up confirmation that the payment was received , or even a simple thank you.

This wasn't a big project, just repaving our cracked driveway but he, his son and crew did a great job and was so fast! They were prompt, very polite and cleaned up after themselves after each day. They explained what they were going to do that day and the next and how long I needed to keep clear before driving on it again. We didn't have to wait an entire day or more for a response. His responsiveness and punctuality was only a few reasons why we chose to go with him. Amosa priced the job fairly and was easy to deal with. Communication throughout the process was clear. The foreman on the job, Joe, was very friendly and easy to speak to. Joe let me know if his crew had any questions and confirmed if there was anything that needed to be clarified before proceeding. Furthermore, Amosa would text me periodic updates and let me know beforehand what the schedule was. We had a hiccup after the plumbers had capped off the outside gas line which shut off the water heater. I contacted Amosa to let him know that our hot water was not working and he was able to get the plumber to come to our house on a Sunday to fix the issue. This type of responsiveness and sense of urgency was appreciated (especially for a family with kids). The work was completed on time and the concrete is a welcome upgrade to the old uneven walkway that we had before. Amosa and Joe's team rerouted some electrical conduit, capped gas lines that were no longer being used and poured new concrete. I recommend AM Masonry & Concrete.

They were also able to make quick adjustments when our neighbor had some concerns with the hedges we wanted to plant. The scope of the work included adding a concrete pad, extending our concrete patio, planting privacy hedges with drainage and auto watering system, installing artificial grass with paver walkways, and adding pebbles along the exterior wall of our house. Since we have a soft watering system, we also had them install a separate line from the main. Overall, Caliscapes OC was professional, friendly, and accommodating. We even had one of the hedge plants not doing well. We reached out to Caliscapes OC to advise us on how to revive it, and they said they would replace it. For the 2nd visit in March 2026, unfortunately the company did not meet the same standard. We communicated via the same number, so they were aware of that we were interested in the same work as before last year (weed removing, trimming of tree shrub) This time, a different employee (H.H.), performed the work. He trimmed the trees and shrubs a bit more quickly than Francisco did, which was not an issue in itself. However, he didn't remove the overgrown roots, but rather just trimmed them, which caused the plants to grow back much faster than before. He also didn't apply any weed killer. After we paid via Zelle, we noticed that our 24-hr security sign had been snapped in half and left on the same spot it was planted. No shrubs were around that area. The employee didn't mention to us at all, but when we asked him what happened, he initially said he didn't know. Only after we saw pictures showing that the sign was intact, he apologized. Additionally, another blue security sign next to our AT&T fiber box was missing. The sign had been in place for months and was clearly visible from the driveway since the shrubs didn't fully cover it. The worker claimed he never saw it. We understand accidents can happen, but the lack of communication and transparency is unfortunate. We are likely moving on to another company.

Steve and his crew are regular people that treat others with kindness and respect not because they have to, but because that's who they are. They fixed a leaky pipe in my backyard without having to pull up my pavers and then they fixed a pipe in my front planter that solved low pressure on my drip lines. No fuss, no extra charges or unnecessary parts and labor. Steve's team obviously have deep knowledge and experience but what makes them so great is that they communicate clearly and are enjoyable to work with. Highly recommend them.

The house we recently moved into had improper drainage and poorly done landscaping. Fern just finished a renovation of the entire property around our house, plus some exterior work. The scope of the project: - Tree removal - Concrete/masonry demolition and regrading - Replace rotted siding with stucco - Paint eaves and fascia boards - Foundation patching and waterproofing - Drainage system - Pour new concrete - Retaining wall - Decomposed granite with drought tolerant plants I have enough experience renovating houses to know that for a project of this magnitude it is unrealistic to expect everything to go perfectly smoothly, especially when factoring some of the custom elements we wanted (won't bore you guys with too many details). When collecting bids I was looking for someone who would be reliable, flexible, communicative, and most importantly someone I could trust to be around the house with the wife and baby on days that I had to work. Fern and I did 3 rounds of discussion and planning over the course of nearly a month before I hired him to start the project. Given our interactions I had high confidence in both his ability and his character. I felt that I could trust him not only to put in the necessary work to complete the project in a timely manner but also to communicate with me on issues as they come up. His bid also came in on the low end among the 8-10 contractors I had talked to, which made the decision even easier. We got started mid-February and things went essentially as expected. Fern and his crew were at the house M-F 7a-4p, often starting earlier and leaving late. There were of course a hundred question marks that popped up as the project developed, and I am grateful to Fern for consistently reaching out to me so we could make a decision together and be on the same page. There were a few times where I asked Fern to redo sections of their work that my initial requests were not clear on, and Fern graciously accepted my apologies and put in the time and energy to adjust to my late clarifications. Fern was also sure to communicate on days when our driveway might be blocked by delivery of landscaping materials, and his team went above and beyond in keeping a section of the driveway clear so we could continue to park in the garage. They also did an excellent job of cleaning up after each day. The crew was a pleasure to have around the property and it was the least we could do to provide lunch on days when we were home. Notably they did not ask to use our bathroom once during the entire 7-8 weeks. Of course nobody is perfect and as expected there were some issues that came up, but Fern was always humble and respectful and I am confident that he did his best to resolve them. I have no regrets in hiring Fern and will definitely be giving him a call the next time we are looking for landscaping services. Thank you Fern and a very special thank you to Humberto for putting in the hard labor required to protect our property from further water damage. I would like to recommend Fernando for your hardscape needs. I have a pool service business in Orange County and Fernando has done an excellent job on several projects. One of my customers had broken coping all around the pool, the BBQ area and driveway. Fernando found matching stone and tile that was much better then the original. My customer is very happy with the outcome. In addition, Fernando repaired my planter that was broken by the roots of two large palms. They will only waste yours and try to rip you off in the process. The guy who came out to my house tried to make the installation seem super complicated, like it was some massive technical job. In reality, the Rain Bird controller only costs about $230 to buy, and the installation takes maybe 20 minutes to do yourself! Yet I received an outrageously inflated estimate of $1,390 total, with $1,195 allocated just for that controller installation. On top of that, they slipped in a $195 charge for an irrigation audit that they originally quoted me $150 for in person. When I sent a reasonable email simply asking for an itemized breakdown of the materials and labor, as well as questioning the surprise price markup on the audit, I got zero answer. Complete ghosting. Zero customer service, zero transparency, and absolute radio silence when called out on their shady pricing. Save yourself the headache, money, and time. Look elsewhere or do it yourself. These people are price gouging scammers.

They were also able to make quick adjustments when our neighbor had some concerns with the hedges we wanted to plant. The scope of the work included adding a concrete pad, extending our concrete patio, planting privacy hedges with drainage and auto watering system, installing artificial grass with paver walkways, and adding pebbles along the exterior wall of our house. Since we have a soft watering system, we also had them install a separate line from the main. Overall, Caliscapes OC was professional, friendly, and accommodating. We even had one of the hedge plants not doing well. We reached out to Caliscapes OC to advise us on how to revive it, and they said they would replace it. We had a good experience and would recommend!

I get compliments literally every day on my yard (turf, brand new concrete, and my expanded driveway). One thing I really respected and appreciated was that the Williams give you a price and they stick to it. They don't "surprise" you with any charges and they stay true to their word. Their crew is exceptional. My mom (who's elderly) stopped by my house during construction and one of their guys helped her to the porch and made sure she didn't fall.
