I found Fern through his five star reviews on Google and Yelp. The reviews were all spot on. Fern and his team were here for 10 days and beautifully transformed my entire yard. My yard was overgrown and a mess. The sod from 2000 was done and full of weeds. The planting areas were in terrible shape. Fern and I talked and together we put together an idea of a combination of sod and DG. I mentioned to him that I always ask for more than discussed and to make sure he added the additional expense. They showed up on time every day at 6:30am and worked nonstop until dusk. They removed two big truck loads of dirt, old sod, weeds, roots and old plants by loading the truck using wheelbarrows. They put in new drip irrigation, new sprinkler lines and valves and repaired my outdoor electrical outlets. They built three paver borders and used cement to make a paver border fence I built by stacking blocks permanent. He cleaned out a raised planter not in the quote, fixed the drip lines and mulched and used my old fountain to build a bird feeder space in the planter. The quote was very fair and the addition price for the added work was very fair also. I will definitely be using him again for my next project. He also installed new ceramic tiles with my address on the front of the house and cleaned out part of my gutters and fixed the leaks to keep them from dripping on the DG. It was a pleasure working with Fern. He was very responsive and gave me quotes for exactly the type of retaining wall I wanted. Some other people that I reached out to gave me ridiculous quotes or would give me other options that were way out of my budget. Once I proceeded with Fern, his team came out as scheduled and worked diligently. The entrance to my backyard is very narrow, making the use of any wheelbarrows or dollies not an option. Fern and his team carried heavy retaining wall blocks one by one into the backyard as well as gravel by the bucket without any complaints. They removed the dying plants on the hillside above the pool and replaced them with new boxwood, drip lines and rocks to cover the weed barrier. Fern and his team did a great job landscaping our side hill and the planters in the front. His recommendations on plants and ground cover were on point based on the soil, amount sun and drought tolerance. We also had him put in new drip systems and tune the lawn sprinklers. The last time I had sod installed was the year prior to the drought. Been kicking myself ever since. Frustrated with lawn maintenance to keep it green and inordinate amount of water, I had been considering drought tolerant landscaping for long time. When the guy across the street moved in this year, he hired Fern for a landscaping makeover. I was able to watch Fern and his assistant methodically complete the job, hardly ever stopping for a break. Fern always kept his word, arrived daily at 7am for two weeks. We had issues with our sprinkler leaking even when the water wasn't on. Each time we had it "fixed" it soon began leaking again. Fortunately, our neighbor had Fern doing her landscaping (which looks great by the way!) and he agreed to come have a look at our system when he finished that job. We've hired Fern for two projects now, and are very happy with the results. The first project was to install a new irrigation drip system and DG in an area of our backyard. He also planted some plants we purchased around the permitter, and made sure that they were placed next to drips. They demolished a crumbling railroad tie retaining wall and build a block wall 80 ft total and also repaired and replaced the stairs up the back hillside with the same matching blocks. It's beautiful and very sturdy and solid. I saw how Fern spent a lot of time prepping since the solid base secures the wall. I thought he did a very thorough job and the results show. Love it! He also cleaned up an area full of rocks and old vines and installed DG, decomposed granite, and it's now clean and level.
