Poke bowl with salmon, tuna, scallops, spicy mayo and garlic ponzu
Gary S.

It's been a while since I've had poke. Decided to give this spot a try. They had all the fixings and sauces for you to choose from. All the seafood was super fresh. Sauces were amazing. They even had spam musubi. Staff was very friendly and fast putting together the poke bowls. Will definitely come back

Said bug, on chopstick.

I wish this wasn't my first time trying Grindz, but it was and I am deeply disappointed. I opened my medium size bowl and immediately noticed a bug jumping around the center of my bowl.

Loved this place, been coming here since opening 4 years ago under a different name. Now I'm not quite sure. Today was especially bad. Horrible customer service, all new people that didn't know what they were doing. Portion sizes also shrunk significantly. Rewards system is a scam also. Several times when I was close to a freebie my points disappear. Happened this time also when I knew I was close to a large one it said I have no points available. When I asked for two scoop of albacore, the container barely had any and the guy had scraped it up claiming it was two scoops when you can tell it can only fit as one scoop. Furthermore, asked if they had any avocado left, they didn't even check they just said no. Lastly the pineapple dole whip float. The guy hesitated when we asked if we can have one, and this is what comes out of it. A float is supposed to be in a cup, we got served this in a bowl. Went in again and asked if this was right since we can't even drink out of it. The guy remakes it in another bowl! And just hands us the pineapple juice to do it ourselves with no lid or utensils.

Large Poke Bowl

This poke bowl SATISFIED my cravings! I ordered a white/brown rice bowl with salmon, tuna, and scallops mixed with their house and unagi sauce. Although the scoops of protein and toppings felt plentiful and delicious, I felt like the server was being very frugal with their rice, especially for a large bowl. I ended up finishing the rice with lots of toppings left but I can't complain about leftovers :) This Poke spot is nestled in the Vons shopping center in Monrovia (Grindz offers $4 coupons for purchases at least $16 on Vons receipts). After using the coupon, my total came out to $14ish which is a reasonable for 5 scoops of protein.

We just moved to Monrovia not too long ago. Compared to all the poke places we have had over the course of a couple year. This place definitely smacks. Service: - they were patient with us. It takes us some time to decide what protein, what add on, and sauces we want. - they had new employees and they were all generally nice and awesome. Good job to their management team on their staff. Fish choices: - They didn't have a lot of fish options, but they do deliver on the quality of their salmon and tuna. Overall, we have came back multiple times over the course of 2 weeks as we are trying to have a healthier lifestyle. Great fish! Great Poke! Recommend all residences in Monrovia fo try this place out.

Medium Bowl - 3 Scoops
Ashlyn R.

This is my go-to spot for poke in Monrovia! The fish is always fresh and staff are super generous with the toppings/sauces. I highly recommend ordering a medium bowl- it's pretty filling. The house sauce, crunchy garlic sauce, and eel sauces are my favorite for bowls! The prices are a bit high here, but definitely worth it if you're craving a quick and fresh poke place!

HUGE Large Bowl - 5 Scoops FOR LESS THAN $20

Large bowl (5 scoops) was less than $20!!! It is huge ok and I eat a lot! The dude that works Friday afternoon asked me a lot of questions to make sure I got the bowl of my dreams! 10 out of 10 recommend

First time trying Grindz and it did not disappoint! I got the medium bowl (3 scoops of protein) and it was huge--easily two full meals for me. I loved that they didn't charge extra for all the toppings I asked for. Everything tasted fresh and well-balanced. Tons of texture too from the crispy toppings, such as seaweed salad, cucumbers, edamame, and pickled ginger. Workers were also super friendly even though I felt like I asked for everything haha. If you're in the area and craving poke, this place is a solid pick.

We got a chance to speak with the staff and we're told Grindz has been open for 7 years now. It's in the same plaza as the Vons, Mooyah and TK Cafe. I was craving poke and stumbled across this poke location. When you walk inside, the interior is very simple and clean. We were immediately greeted by staff who asked if this was our first time. He gave us a quick intro on what was available and how to order. You pick your choice & amount/type of protein. The cost varies and for extra protein, it's $2 more. There's a good variety of toppings and sauces. Everything tasted fresh and the crunchy onion gave it a nice texture. They were very good sized portions and I left in a food coma. Food ordered: one bowl with ahi tuna, albacore and shrimp + another bowl with albacore, salmon and tako. Our toppings varied, but the seaweed is always good with poke or rice. The fish tasted fresh and not too chewy. Drink: green tea with lychee (it's the Hawaiian Sun brand)

Food is always fresh and tasty! This place never disappoints and the portions in my opinion are huge compared to other franchises in the neighborhood. My kids love it and they have dole whip! If you can't make it to Disneyland, come here for your dole whip fix

Jasmin A.

This place has amazing poke! The portions are great and everything tasted so fresh. The three protein I picked: spicy tuna, salmon, and shrimp. I love that you can also add the crab meat!

Medium bowl is a good size

Came here for lunch after a hike. The food was decently priced and the size was pretty big too! We got the dole whip float which was dole whip plus pineapple juice! It was so good! I would come back just for that! Also the staff were very nice!

Small Poke This poke was 14 bucks, no fish at all
Geomar R.

Tasted good tho, very small and not worth 14 bucks more rice than anything. Nice clean place but they should add more fish and portions of other sides should be more

Not sure if this place specializes in Hawaiian food since the owner/worker was Indonesian, but this was bomb. Tender meat and heavily seasoned. Went well with the rice. While I was staring at the menu deciding whether I wanted to get anything, several people came and went with their orders and everyone told me to get the fried chicken. So, I went inside and got the fried chicken with macaroni salad. A few mintues later, I added a katsu musubi to the order. This is not fast-food. The wait is real. About 12 minutes. I then had probably about 10 minutes of driving before I sat down to eat. The fried chicken is delicious and has a great crispy/crunchy skin. There is a faint sweetness that coats the chicken. The meat was not super plump like some national-chain places (I think those places brine-injected the chicken). Depending on your preference, this might feel too dry to you. Their dipping sauce for the chicken is very tasty. If they just sold that in bottles, I'd come just to buy that for use at home! Speaking of preferences, the macaroni salad is also well made, but it's simple and might be disappointing if you're expecting some kind of flavor kick. I liked it very much, because it is in the style of the basic macaroni salad -- someone described it as going home to Hawaii for them -- and I think that's what it is. Portions were enough to split into two meals. So I had half of my chicken and the mac salad. I had planned to also only eat half of the musubi. But it was delicious and had a nice crunch which I'm sure would not have held up being kept in the fridge. I really enjoyed the musubi on its own, but also enjoyed taking turns with bites with that sauce added on. I stored the rest of the chicken and mac salad in the fridge and then had them for dinner 6 hours later. Despite being in the fridge, the chicken still had a bit of a crunchy bite to it - it wasn't a mushy soggy mess. Very friendly service. This is not a sit-down place you go to for a dining experience - just a solid place to get food to go that will be delicious. Now that I've had the fried chicken that everyone seems to recommend, I'm looking forward to trying the rest of their menu.

Not sure about street parking. There's not a lot of lightning at night except for the business signages that do give off lighting. Upon entry, I was greeted and seated right away. Came here during late lunch so they weren't super busy. Not a big restaurant with a capacity of about 40 people. One all gender restroom available for customer use only. Lunch special menu was available. Other menu had main items, appetizers, and drinks. Prices were fairly reasonable. They are known for their famous pork katsu. I am not a big katsu fan so I didn't get it. Mochi Udon looked interesting so I got it with the Chicken Karaage (free offer from food passport... stamp #10) plus water. While I was waiting for my order, I was fascinated by all the different designed ducks displayed on the window sills and front counter. I am curious about their duck story. Inquirer wants to know. Mochi Udon bowl came out piping hot and steamy. A small plate of cabbage came with it. The bowl's nice presentation made it pleasantly appetizing. Broth was savory and slightly sweet in a good soothing way. Udon noodles tasted homemade... very bouncy and slippery. YUM! Two mochis were soft and chewy. Fish cakes were fresh and delicious. One chicken piece was moist and tender. Wished there was one or two more chicken pieces though... one was just a teaser! Chicken Karaage was the best looking and tasting plate I have ever had. I was impressed with its presentation and the mochi-like batter taste. Chicken was very moist. I enjoyed it very much. SO GOOD! Highly recommend. Thanks Ducks! Staff was friendly and nice. We ordered the Chicken Curry and Chicken Katsu Curry. I'd definitely like to mention the Kaarage was amazing! They were huge pieces and moist not overly fried how some places might make them. A few TikToks of people trying the plates here popped up on my feed, and I decided to visit since I've never had poke ever. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small, and the line took up most of the space. There's also a small corner for customers to purchase snacks, drinks, and other items. A few tables and chairs are squashed on one side of the restaurant, but it seems most people just get their food to go. 【Food】 I ordered: * Large poke bowl ($24.00) The menu states you get your choice of poke, but I learned from Yelp reviews that you can actually mix and match two different flavors. Additionally, the bowl comes with rice and one side. I wished the menu had indicators for the most popular flavors since I've never had poke before. I ended up going with the standard shoyu and spicy 'ahi along with 'uala (Hawaiian sweet potato) mash. At the bottom of the bowl was a bed of white rice, sprinkled with furikake. The diced tuna had a firm, bouncy texture. The shoyu was savory, and I definitely felt the heat from the marinade in the spicy poke, which made my nose run a little. The bowl had the perfect ratio of rice to fish. The 'uala mash had a beautiful lilac color, and I thought the slightly sweet flavor tasted like caramel. 【Service】 When I visited, the line was so long that it spilled a little outside. There were 15-20 people in front of me, and it took ~20 minutes to get through the line. Staff was friendly. Once I ordered, it took less than 10 minutes for me to get my food. 【Parking】 The restaurant is located in a plaza with other restaurants and businesses. There's a decent amount of parking, and when I went, I saw a few open spots. 【Tips】 Because there's not much room inside the restaurant, I ate at the nearby Fairview Avenue Park, which had free parking and a few picnic tables with shade.
