As a poke lover, I had to try Grindz, and it honestly exceeded expectations. The portions were surprisingly generous. It leans a bit on the pricier side, but you can taste the quality -- everything was fresh and flavorful, from the tuna to the octopus, scallops, and spicy crab. Every protein tasted clean and well-prepared. I generally don't enjoy scallops due to the strong fishy taste but the scallops here were buttery soft and flavorful! They also offer a wide variety of sauces, and each one added something different and delicious to the bowl. It's been a while since I've had poke. Decided to give this spot a try. They had all the fixings and sauces for you to choose from. All the seafood was super fresh. Sauces were amazing. Went here for the first time last weekend and I had a GREAT experience! First of all, the gentleman who helped us took the time to explain each of the sauces and let us do a taste test to see which one(s) we liked the best. I've never had service like that at a Poke place, it was awesome! Secondly, the poke was delicious! I ordered a medium bowl (which was the perfect size) with the spicy garlic sauce. Loved this place, been coming here since opening 4 years ago under a different name. Now I'm not quite sure. Today was especially bad. Horrible customer service, all new people that didn't know what they were doing. Portion sizes also shrunk significantly. Rewards system is a scam also. Several times when I was close to a freebie my points disappear. Happened this time also when I knew I was close to a large one it said I have no points available. When I asked for two scoop of albacore, the container barely had any and the guy had scraped it up claiming it was two scoops when you can tell it can only fit as one scoop. Furthermore, asked if they had any avocado left, they didn't even check they just said no. Lastly the pineapple dole whip float. The guy hesitated when we asked if we can have one, and this is what comes out of it. A float is supposed to be in a cup, we got served this in a bowl. Went in again and asked if this was right since we can't even drink out of it. The guy remakes it in another bowl! And just hands us the pineapple juice to do it ourselves with no lid or utensils. read more

This poke bowl SATISFIED my cravings! I ordered a white/brown rice bowl with salmon, tuna, and scallops mixed with their house and unagi sauce. Although the scoops of protein and toppings felt plentiful and delicious, I felt like the server was being very frugal with their rice, especially for a large bowl. I ended up finishing the rice with lots of toppings left but I can't complain about leftovers :) This Poke spot is nestled in the Vons shopping center in Monrovia (Grindz offers $4 coupons for purchases at least $16 on Vons receipts). After using the coupon, my total came out to $14ish which is a reasonable for 5 scoops of protein. read more

One of my regular spots for a healthy poke fix. They have a wide variety of bases (salad vs cucumbers, standard white or brown rice, and even rice noodles). Their poke is always fresh and flavorful with great sides and sauces (my favorite being their House sauce with Eel sauce mixed). Guacamole is included and prices competitive. Can order online too and have it ready for your arrival. They also have the full Hawaii theme going with local music, Dole pineapple whip, Hawaiian potato chips and juice and even spam musubi. Def worth a stop. Solid spot and can't go wrong. read more

We just moved to Monrovia not too long ago. Compared to all the poke places we have had over the course of a couple year. This place definitely smacks. Service: - they were patient with us. It takes us some time to decide what protein, what add on, and sauces we want. - they had new employees and they were all generally nice and awesome. Good job to their management team on their staff. Fish choices: - They didn't have a lot of fish options, but they do deliver on the quality of their salmon and tuna. Overall, we have came back multiple times over the course of 2 weeks as we are trying to have a healthier lifestyle. Great fish! Great Poke! We randomly stumbled upon this poke restaurant and it quickly became one of our favorites! The fish was incredibly fresh. The ahi and salmon was very high quality. First time trying Grindz and it did not disappoint! I got the medium bowl (3 scoops of protein) and it was huge--easily two full meals for me. I loved that they didn't charge extra for all the toppings I asked for. Everything tasted fresh and well-balanced. Tons of texture too from the crispy toppings, such as seaweed salad, cucumbers, edamame, and pickled ginger. Workers were also super friendly even though I felt like I asked for everything haha. We got a chance to speak with the staff and we're told Grindz has been open for 7 years now. It's in the same plaza as the Vons, Mooyah and TK Cafe. I was craving poke and stumbled across this poke location. When you walk inside, the interior is very simple and clean. We were immediately greeted by staff who asked if this was our first time. He gave us a quick intro on what was available and how to order. You pick your choice & amount/type of protein. The cost varies and for extra protein, it's $2 more. There's a good variety of toppings and sauces. Everything tasted fresh and the crunchy onion gave it a nice texture. They were very good sized portions and I left in a food coma. Food ordered: one bowl with ahi tuna, albacore and shrimp + another bowl with albacore, salmon and tako. Our toppings varied, but the seaweed is always good with poke or rice. Came in here and the portions were so bad, either bring prices down or give me some salmon.. Michael acted as if every bit of protein he added or seasoning was coming out of his paycheck. There was two workers there when we came in and it was my first time trying poke but not my sisters so I wasn't sure what to expect. But the workers were rude, and acted like us being there was an inconvenience - there was one girl and one guy we came in around 4pm on June 15th on a Monday, maybe it's just the workers on shift but it was a bad experience overall. They acted as if the portions of salmon / protein they gave us came out of their own personal paycheck and gave us masago (small fish eggs) with a 1/8 teaspoon and would only give us one scoop of it, the only thing they gave us plenty of was the rice, which is all you can taste when you take a bite of the bowl . I was in the neighborhood and decided I was in the mood for sushi and found this lovely poke spot. It's a cute little shop that can seat about 18 people. I arrived around 12:45 pm expecting a busy lunch crowd but with my luck I was the only customer at the moment. I ordered a large bowl with lots of different toppings, sauces and protein. The flavors came together nicely and the protein tasted fresh. I would highly recommend trying this place if you're in the area you will not be disappointed. Service is amazing too. Owner is a really kind man. Stopped by on a Sunday evening. Not busy, no one at counter when I walked in. Must have been prepping things in the back. Ordered large 5 protein 1/2 greens, 1/2 white rice poke bowl. There were a lot of toppings to choose from (i.e., cilantro, jalapeños, spicy crab, avocado, corn, carrots, seaweed salad, etc). Avocado is included in the bowl! For protein I chose salmon, tuna, spicy tuna, albacore, and scallops. For sauce, I chose firecracker. Loved the sauce! You can choose the toppings to be mixed in or just placed on top. I chose mine to be mixed in so everything was sauced up. Tasted so good! Finishing toppings they had flamin hot cheetos crumbs! Overall, my poke bowl was delicious. Cost $17.58 after tax. read more

Tried out oke poke for the first time cause we were craving some poke and it was tasty! Food: -got salmon and tuna as my fish with rice as the base. It was pretty full of all the toppings which was yuuuummmy! I think next time I'll ask for extra ginger and wasabi on the side- just a personal preference. The fish was pretty good, but the salmon didn't taste as fresh (it could be a fluke or maybe just the drive home too, we to-go-ed the food) but it wasn't anything alarming so we ate it all up! Service: -again, we to-go-ed but still prompt and efficient service! Price: -we did have a coupon that helped a bit, heh! WHAT IS POKE? Poke is a classic Hawaiian dish comprised of sliced, raw fish into cubes and various mix-ins. Poke is the Hawaiian verb for 'section' or to 'slice or cut.' It is a staple dish. Our 'Grindz’ version of Poke shares similar characteristics, but with more of a variety. Our poke bowls are customizable, fresh & a must try!

History

Established in 2017.

Our timeline started in 2017 as Oke Poke. We chose Monrovia as we love the local community. We mainly hire students local to the area, being able to give back to the next generation. We are family ran business with multiple locations. Notably, we had a concession stand inside Angels Stadium in Anaheim. 2023, our niece decided she wanted to franchise the business and expand in Northern California. That is when we decide to rebrand as Grindz. We wish them luck up north while we continue what we do down south. -mahalo

I then had probably about 10 minutes of driving before I sat down to eat. The fried chicken is delicious and has a great crispy/crunchy skin. There is a faint sweetness that coats the chicken. The meat was not super plump like some national-chain places (I think those places brine-injected the chicken). Depending on your preference, this might feel too dry to you. Their dipping sauce for the chicken is very tasty. If they just sold that in bottles, I'd come just to buy that for use at home! Speaking of preferences, the macaroni salad is also well made, but it's simple and might be disappointing if you're expecting some kind of flavor kick. I liked it very much, because it is in the style of the basic macaroni salad -- someone described it as going home to Hawaii for them -- and I think that's what it is. Portions were enough to split into two meals. So I had half of my chicken and the mac salad. I had planned to also only eat half of the musubi. But it was delicious and had a nice crunch which I'm sure would not have held up being kept in the fridge. I really enjoyed the musubi on its own, but also enjoyed taking turns with bites with that sauce added on. I stored the rest of the chicken and mac salad in the fridge and then had them for dinner 6 hours later. Despite being in the fridge, the chicken still had a bit of a crunchy bite to it - it wasn't a mushy soggy mess. Very friendly service. This is not a sit-down place you go to for a dining experience - just a solid place to get food to go that will be delicious. I went here over a week and it was TERRIBLE! I used to go here all the time with my family post covid, and I went here recently and it was truly disgusting. This place went down so quickly. The food quality is 0/10 I went and everything was missing, I ordered a bowl and it was not even eatable. I got food poisoning a few hours later. THE FISH IS OLD AND TASTE BAD! how can you have a poke restaurant with BAD FISH! I am never the one to write reviews on yelp but I couldn't help it because it was that bad. The rice was hard, smushy, and burnt all at the same time, the fish was discolored and tasted fishy, half the add ons were missing, and the avocado was mushy and brown. How can you serve food like this. I will never go back here again, I feel bad for this family business because I love to support but there is no way ill ever eat here unless they upgrade the quality of the food. Also the employees are rude and have no customer service. I was helped by this young girl she looked new and she had no idea what she was doing, she was messy and didn't even know how to explain sauces when I asked questions, didn't say hi to me just said rudely "what do you want" felt not welcomed at all and had to go ask another employee for help because she didn't know how to explain. I don't know if I should blame the managers for not training their employees on what they should be doing, because a few years ago I could say this place was good and had great service. They just had their soft opening over the weekend and I must say the place looks clean and amazing. Staff was nice and friendly . I had a poke burrito with their firecracker specialty sauce and it was awesome and it was huge for less than $10. They have more than 15 sauces to choose from. They offer samples which was great so it was easy for me to choose which sauce I wanted. I also had a Hawaiian shaved ice for dessert and my daughter loved it. The condense milk adds a very nice sweetness flavor to it. They carry all the Hawaiian drinks you can think of but I'm more of a soda person so I stuck with a coke. My husband and I ordered from Oke Poke's specialty bowls. Keep in mind, their pre-made specialty marinades are only for Salmon and Tuna. However, the girl who was prepping our bowls told us we could choose fish from outside and she could have the specialty sauce on them as well. Great Service Great Food! read more
