The spread, the skewers were just as good as the sushi. Thumbs up

I concur- everything from the product to the service to the bartending is top notch. It's an upgrade from your chain sushi joints like mikomi down the street so there is a premium, expect to average about $40 a person, but there are rolls here too if you wanna stay budget friendly. Had a wonderful time here, great place for a date night since the area is so walkable. 5 stars

Ok the food here is very fresh !! I've cane here before but I think it was named something else. Anyways, the sushi was so fresh and good! I ordered the salmon nigiri, miso soup, and shared the salmon truffle rolls that were beyonddd delicious! Good miso soup and fresh salmon nigiri that was very good!! Yummy !! The service was also very good!! It took awhile to come to our table, but once they did they were very attentive and good personalities!! The ambiance was perfect as well. Very modern and cute!! Located in downtown Monrovia so it's good vibes for sure!! I will definitely come Back here ! Very good menu! A lot to choose from. -Marshay D.

This is THE spot if you're looking for quality Japanese fish. During my omakase experience, every course was prepared with care. You can really tell the chefs prioritize freshness and technical precision. Sitting at the counter made it even better, where I watched each nigiri being made. What I was served: * Tai (Sea Bream) * Kinmedai (Golden Eye Snapper) * Saba (Mackerel) * Anago (Sea Eel) * Seared Otoro (Fatty Tuna) For additional entrees, we tried the Chilean sea bass tempura apple salad and the steamed ginger Chilean sea bass. Both were incredibly light, delicate, and fluffy! Highly recommend the Toro tartare! The texture paired with the crunchy seaweed is absolutely incredible. The wagyu tobanyaki was also impressive. It comes sizzling, and that aroma hits you immediately when they lift the lid. Every bite was rich and flavorful, and even the vegetables were perfect. To finish, we tried the premium soy sauce ice cream and croissant pudding. All desserts are made in-house, and we'll definitely be back to try more flavors. There's plenty of nearby parking, and we booked our reservation easily through Yelp.

This place is a hidden gem. Yes it's pricey, but you get what you pay for. Food, service, and ambiance are perfect. The scallop carpaccio was amazing. The skewers were amazing. The waitress recommended two sakes which were delicious. Absolute gem. The swishing was so fresh and perfect. Everything we tried (Everything on the menu) was phenomenal. I will definitely be back. I'd recommend having some kid options, and kid friendly drink options like lemonade or more juices besides apple juice. Menu is very dynamic and has many delicious options. There is a 18% charge on every bill which I did not mind paying because the quality and service was amazing.

    DineLA signature omakase
    Rosanna L.

Came to try their signature omakase from the DineLA menu. We made reservations for the bar and was seated immediately. Items included the following: 1. 4 item Appetizer - octopus & conch, monkfish liver, Kunomoto oyster (sweet but too much vinegar) tempura salad (loved it) &halibut 2. Premium sashimi: Scallop, chutoro with truffle shavings (one of my favorites), King mackerel (need more flavor) 3. Snow crab chuwanmushi - had an interesting rice wine flavor 4. Red snapper with lemon & salt... The rice was too warm. Overtook the fish flavor 5. Bluefin tuna 6. Seared Red snapper 7. Yellowtail 8. Seared sea perch 9. Hokkaido uni (so sweet) 10. Seared Otoro (melt in my mouth) 11. Grilled wagyu with truffle butter (I learned that I like truffle butter) 12. Croissant pudding with soy sauce ice cream.... Salty and lightly sweet Overall I enjoyed the meal. Pricing was good. Service was good. They filled our waters and took our empty plates. My finance got the sake pairing. We did have to wait a while for the sake. Inside was nice and clean. We went on a Friday night so the streets were closed for the weekly Farmers market. We parked at the nearby public parking.

Valentine's Modern Kaiseki Experience Food: 7/10 We chose the Valentine's Kaiseki instead of omakase, and honestly the first three courses were my favorite parts of the entire meal. The toro tartare nori tacos were creative and delicious -- I could easily eat a whole tray of just those. Same goes for toro nigiri. If they ever offered a toro-only tasting, I'm in. The scallops were cooked perfectly, tender and balanced. The firefly squid was also surprisingly great -- not chewy at all, which is usually my concern. I generally don't love oysters, but this Kumamoto oyster was actually very well prepared and enjoyable. Premium ingredients showed up throughout the meal -- uni, toro (multiple times), wagyu -- so the price point makes sense from an ingredient perspective. Where it dipped slightly for me: * The clear broth palate cleanser was my least favorite dish. * The wagyu with soba risotto had potential, but the risotto was served as a dense puck and the wagyu leaned slightly overcooked. * The simmered abalone was better than others I've tried, but it still carried that lingering ocean-forward taste that just might not be for me personally. The hojicha lava cake was devious in flavor -- rich, deep tea notes -- but there was no lava inside. Still tasty, just not what the name promised. Pacing: The wait time between dishes felt a little slow. The full experience took exactly 2 hours. Not necessarily bad for a Valentine's dinner, but noticeable. Service: 10/10 Service absolutely carried the experience. Our server had amazing energy, confidently explained each course, shared what the restaurant offers on different days, and gladly gave her input as dishes came out. Water was consistently refilled and plates were cleared quickly. The sushi chef even stopped by with a small rose bouquet, which was a really thoughtful Valentine's touch. Ambiance: Smart casual with full lovey-dovey Valentine's vibes. Intimate and date-night ready. Good to know: Steep Price, Small Portions, and There's a mandatory 18% service charge, which came out to almost $80 on our bill -- just something to factor in. Total bill came out to a bit over 500$. For that price I should be leaving stuffed.

Made reservations and came during DineLA. We were seated right away. Chose the signature omakase, service was attentive - frequently refilled our water. We parked in a nearby lot that offered 3 hours of free parking, which was very convenient. Casual atmosphere. 4 seasonal appetizers: Arugula tempura with vinegar dressing, refreshing with great crunch (personal favorite) Monkfish liver was smooth and rich, nicely balanced by crunchy seaweed Oyster Clam and octopus ceviche had a bright citrus note Sashimi: Scallop with cucumber was soft and refreshing Chutoro with pecorino cheese and radish was an interesting, savory combination Mackerel was smoky and deeply flavorful Snow crab chawanmushi tasted like the sea Premium Nigiri: Sea bream with shiso, salt, and wasabi Seared kinmedai with soy glaze Shima aji with yuzu kosho and ponzu Akami with soy and salt Seared akamutsu Uni from Hokkaido was creamy and fresh (personal favorite) Seared otoro The grilled wagyu with truffle butter was cooked perfectly, aromatic and savory. Miso soup with mushrooms rounded out the savory courses nicely. Dessert was a croissant pudding with soy sauce ice cream, a unique and satisfying finish.

Thank you, Chef! My dining experience at Fillet Sushi went extremely well. I was quite surprised we walked in on a Saturday night sans reservation and was seated right away. We drove by last night and it was packed. Staff & Chef was knowledgeable and attentive. Was satisfied with our Ootoro Sashimi but wished our Wagyu A5 Sashimi was not as well done. Presentation for all of our dishes was a 8/10 - very nicely done! Restaurant was small & cozy but nicely decorated. I LOVED their muscular Maneki-neko (Fortune Cat) - looked quite buff! Very impressive! Nice Sake Selection. The Shrimp Tempura was actually my favorite dish - 9/10. It was crispy and paired well with our Kubota sake. Prices are fair and their sashimi was fresh. One thing that came as a surprise to me was the automatic 18% service charge that was added to our bill for a party of 2. We normally tip 20-25% so it was confusing to whether that 18% was the tip, and very much of a hassle to try to calculate the difference to add up to what the actual tip should be. I've dined at many sushi restaurants and this was the first time an automatic service charge had been added for a small party. Overall, I really enjoyed dining at Fillet Sushi. Our bill for 2 came out to just below $500 but it was only because we ordered 2 x bottles of Sake + higher priced items. Their prices are actually pretty reasonable so Fillet Sushi is definitely a must for our. fellow Yelpies to try. You won't be disappointed.

~ Great quality fishes ~ I usually gravitate towards nigiris and sashimis at sushi restaurants UNTIL I tried their roll...it was amazing! I love their yellowtail and salmon! The service was fast. Lots of seating AND they have an omakase option!

Yup, this was indeed the best service I've had in a long time and probably the best night for me. I applaud this restaurant and appreciate the skills of their sushi chefs. Each bite was so flavorful and intentional. Their hospitality elevated the entire experience. The hostess and chefs were so kind, generous, and helpful. They assisted us in pairing drinks with the sushi and it was amazing, complimenting our meal so well. I loved dining at Fillet Sushi. Celebrating my anniversary will forever be remembered here. Thank you! I enjoyed sitting at the bar, experiencing the Omakase counter. Yes, I encourage you to trust the chef (:

We had a great experience at Fillet Sushi in Monrovia. The fish was extremely fresh and you can tell they really care about quality and presentation. Everything we ordered tasted clean and well balanced. The sushi was excellent but what really stood out to us were the skewers. They were perfectly cooked, very flavorful, and a great addition to the meal. The service was also very friendly and welcoming. On top of that they went above and beyond. I almost walked out and forgot my wallet and the staff stopped me on my way out to make sure I got it back. Really appreciated that level of honesty and attention. The atmosphere is modern but still relaxed which makes it a great spot for dinner in Old Town Monrovia. We will definitely be coming back and will be ordering those skewers again. Highly recommend if you are looking for quality sushi in the area.

Came here once for dinner with some girlfriends, almost forgot about it until they had a dine la event. Really good selection and quality of fish - 4 course appetizer w/ fried baby crab & scallop spring roll, ankimo, Oyster, & fried veggies with a white fish - so many textures and rocks flavors 5/5 - roe chawanmushi - 5/5 - 6 pc Nigiri - 5/5 - wagyu, chicken skewer, & fried okra 5/5 - 3 course dessert w/ croissant bread pudding, soy sauce ice cream, & green tea ice cream The absolute most delicious thing is definitely their soy sauce ice cream. Totally unexpected and absolutely divine. I would like to take a gallon's Worth next time, thanks. In the heart of Old Town Monrovia, plenty of street parking and lots all over the place. My only suggestion would be to not come Friday evenings since there is usually a street fair happening and parking becomes extremely scarce

Ordered: - 2x Fillet sushi DineLA mini omakase ($65/6pcs) - (4/5): - Appetizers: Kumamoto oysters with ponzu sauce turned out to be a good start to the course and was super refreshing considering that we were outside in the heat. The monkfish liver with seaweed salad was not too "organ-y" so one of the best monkfish livers we've had. - Chawanmushi with crab meat - my gf really liked this one. - Sea bream - like the salt flakes - Red Snapper? Not sure what the server said it was. - Mackerel - Chutoro with truffle - our favorite piece! - King mackerel - Ikura - tasty but nothing to write home about compared to the nigiri - Added seared snow trout - Wagyu hand roll - very heavy and filling but my gf found it a bit too chewy and well done - Tamago - Soy sauce ice cream - we loved this one! It almost tasted like a take on vanilla ice cream. Both familiar and new! Overall (4/5): We came here on a Friday evening about a month ago. It was unfortunately a bit hot inside and the staff didn't seem to be fully trained as they left the menus at our table after taking our order and seemed confused about certain things. Ambiance was quiet at first but then quickly got pretty noisy. However, the omakase contained all good quality fish that differed from the usual at other locations and we loved checking out the Friday farmer's market right outside afterwards. Overall a pretty decent experience that we were both glad to have.

I've had this place bookmarked a while so it was the perfect time to try it. It was not so busy for a Tuesday night. There is plenty of seating, bar seating and the place looked super clean. I wasn't sure what the special dishes were so I ordered the Premium Blue Fin Tuna and Negitoro Bowl, Premium Chirashi Dinner and an order of halibut and salmon. Our favorites was the Blue Fin Tuna and Negitoro Bowl. The tuna paired with the rice as soooo good. I was in absolute heaven. I love tuna and negitoro and this dish did not disappoint! The Chirashi dinner was decent. It had a little of everything which was nice. The fish were not too thick which was nice and the rice was flavorful. The dinners both came with a salad and miso soup which were both pretty good starters. The halbut and salmon nigiri pieces were also really good. :) Overall, the vibes inside were nice and the service was great. Parking is easy since there is a big lot out front and this place is tucked away in a plaza. I will definitely be back :) ALSO, I thought the prices were quite decent for the quality of the food!!

Apparently my Yelp backlog is now longer than the waitlist at some restaurants…read more This dinner happened last week. Better late than never. This visit was a first for both of us. My daughter actually found Mikomi on Yelp and suggested we give it a try. She definitely picked a good one. We started with the Sushi Combo 2 ($50), which included ten pieces of premium sushi: * Hotate (Scallop) * Halibut * Madai * Uni * Blue Crab * Bluefin Tuna * Salmon Belly * Yellowtail Belly * Albacore * Amberjack Every piece looked beautiful on the plate, and the fish tasted incredibly fresh. The variety made it fun because each bite offered something a little different, from rich and buttery to light and delicate. One thing that immediately stood out was the presentation. The plating was exceptional, and every dish looked like it belonged in a food magazine. They were almost too pretty to eat... almost. My daughter insisted we order two Salmon Carpaccios ($23 each) because it's her absolute favorite. I can't really argue with that decision. The lightly seared salmon practically melts in your mouth, and the ponzu-based seasoning adds just enough brightness without overpowering the fish. We polished off both plates in no time. My personal favorite was the Amberjack Carpaccio ($25). If I had to pick one dish from the entire meal, this would be it. The amberjack was buttery, delicate, and refreshing, with a light citrusy dressing and fresh microgreens that complemented the fish instead of masking it. We also ordered the Seared Mackerel Battera ($20). I'm usually a fan of mackerel, and this didn't disappoint. The lightly seared top added a subtle smoky aroma, while the shiso leaf, bonito flakes, and chopped ginger balanced the richness beautifully. To finish dinner, my daughter picked out a macaron ($5) because apparently dessert is mandatory after sushi. And yes... I also ordered my usual cup of hot green tea. If you've been following my reviews, you've probably noticed by now that I order hot tea almost everywhere. It's become part of the ritual. Mikomi has a clean, modern Japanese aesthetic without feeling overly formal. The warm lighting, wood finishes, and comfortable seating create a relaxing atmosphere that's perfect for slowing down and enjoying a meal. Even though the restaurant was busy, it never felt loud or chaotic. Quality sushi certainly isn't inexpensive, but when the ingredients are this fresh and consistently prepared, it's money well spent. Price Breakdown Sushi Combo 2 - $50.00 Salmon Carpaccio ×2 - $23.00 each Amberjack Carpaccio - $25.00 Seared Mackerel Battera - $20.00 Macaron - $5.00 Hot Green Tea Total (including tax & 20% tip): Approximately $200 If you're looking for beautifully presented sushi made with fresh, high-quality fish in a relaxed atmosphere, Mikomi is definitely worth a visit. And to my daughter... thanks for finding this one. I think you've earned the right to pick our next sushi adventure too.

But honestly, the service was the best part: they noticed we had kids with us and anticipated everything we'd need, like kid-friendly utensils, without us even having to ask. When I got to the lot, it took me a few minutes to locate the restaurant because the name sign was super low-key. The restaurant is pretty small but feels cozy. My colleague already ordered before I got there so I just ate whatever they put on the table! The only one I didn't like as much was the beef? It was too salty for my taste. The sashimi platter was the best! The corn tempura was new to me and it was so good! I think my kids would love it. The grilled whole seabass was amazing. I need to find time to take my family there kind of good!

Restaurant is located in a small strip mall, with a fair amount of parking. There isn't a flashy restaurant sign in front of the building, and once you step in, it truly feels like you are in a small, homey Izikaya in Japan. The restaurant only has a few booths, a few tables and bar seating inside, so reservations are highly recommended on a busy Saturday night. My boyfriend and I got lucky that they were able to accommodate us within 10 minutes, because there was seating available at the bar. There is a physical Drink menu (sake, beer, etc.) and the food menu can be viewed by scanning a QR code with your phone. The waitress made suggestions about which dishes she personally liked & we ordered whatever she suggested, along with some of the things we thought looked good. *7/10 Toro w/ seaweed *8/10 Moriwase (chef's selection of sashimi) 2 each of 5 different sashimi. There was one cut I did not particularly care for. *7/10 chicken wings *10/10 Beef tongue-- Tender, but firm. Delicious, a must try! *10/10 Ankimo-- creamy and paired well with the ponzu and fresh seaweed *10/10 Fried Seabass-- they served the entire fish, which is rare. *10/10 Sous-vide Duck breast-- must try! *10/10 Nikomi stew--simple, but delicious! *10/10 Matcha Oolong Panna Cotta-- subtly sweet with a smooth texture. It was so good, that we ordered two! The only reason that I only gave it a four out of five stars is because the service was slow. All of our dishes, came out in time, but no drink refills were given and the server never came back to collect our check for payment. So we had to walk it up to them ourselves. For a small space, with three servers, it shouldn't be hard to attend to all the customers. The menu can be pricey, but food is delicious! Along with exceptional service, eating here is worth it.

We love that they do weekend lunch special, and we specifically come for that. The sushi lunch combo always includes generous, thick slices of fresh fish and a good variety. This last time, we even got a huge scallop nigiri in our combos! We also ordered a roll and an order of takoyaki to share this time around, and both hit the spot. Interior is classy, clean, and comfortable. Service can be a little slow depending on how busy it is (on a Saturday during lunch, our 3 sushi combos arrived like 15 minutes after my grandma's chicken udon), but that speaks to the made-to-order quality, so I'm not too bummed. Overall, as a sushi fanatic who doesn't like to break the bank each time we go out, this is my go-to and we'll be back every time we're in town.
