Really good BBQ. My wife loved the brisket! Ribs and chicken were better han many other places n the area. The sides were also really good, which stands out compared to most places. When in for drinks and as we ordered the last round my bottle of bud light was pulled our of the refrigerator with some string of slime hanging off the bottom of the bottle. We were told that it was something they put in the refrigerator to keep the beer from freezing which makes no sense. Totally disgusting. Glad we did not have anything to eat. Who knows what goes on in the kitchen if this is going on in the bar. My boyfirend and I recently discovered this place and the verdict? Its fantastic! The barbecued meats and salads we had were beautifully delicious. I love how close to home this barbeque joint is. The people who work there are very friendly. It ends there. We waited over an hour for food. I got the pulled pork which according to their menu was what they were known for. The minimal amount of meat it came with was fine but it was placed on top of a refrigerated bread roll, still cold and dry. I found a long blonde hair in my food which at first I assumed it was mine, then my husband found one in his too and well that wasn't mine. Our first round of beverages were fine, the second set tasted like chlorine and we told the servers they apologized and said the cleaning solution was still in the cups?? This was a pretty cool spot. I got the pulled pork(pretty good for CA) with sides of mac, slaw and cornbread. The mac was good, slaw was good, cornbread was ok. Yup its all pretty good! We tried 3 of their BBQ selections: The brisket was very flavorful, although maybe a bit tough and over cooked (or under I'm not sure how that works with brisket), but again still tasty. The pulled pork was wonderful- very moist great smokey flavor... and the beef ribs... first of all they HAVE beef ribs!! Second, they are GOOD!! Tender, perfectly sauced, and just the right amount of fatty goodness. The mac and cheese was just ok, the cornbread was a bit too dry for me, and the fried pickles are amazing (how can you miss with those?). But if it weren't for the beef ribs I would have probably given them 3 stars. The ribs and pork are fantastic. As a former Kansas Citian, this place could hold its own right in the heart of bbq country. The service and decor are great, and the surrounding "Town Square" is very quaint. The best side is either the Onion rings or the chili, and you can get both with a full entree. Griff's does some good BBQ, especally the ribs. I've had them a couple times, and both times they were good. Also worth a try is the macaroni and cheese. In fact, I would be perfectly happy having a large serving of just the mac 'n' cheese...but the ribs are really worth your time. Another dish that stands out in my mind is the BBQ nacho appetizer. It comes with pulled pork and is definitely worth the calories. What also stands out as a real star is the bread pudding. It's a fantastic dessert and some of the best I've had. The service has been good the times I have been there, and I haven't seen anything that suggests cleanliness is as issue...and I'm sort of a clean freak. No complaints. I've stopped for lunch here several times while in the area. I really like their BBQ pulled pork sandwich. The service has been very slow every time I've come, and not particularly friendly. Getting them to bring you the bill can be challenging. This last time we waited 1 hour from when we walked in the door until we were served. Hard to control the kids in a restaurant for that long. The portion sizes are good, except this last time the pulled pork was pretty light on the sandwich, other times they piled it on. seems to be hit and miss here. The hogwash sauce is out of this world and so is the coleslaw. The smoke flavoring of the meat was very good. The ribs were a little light on meat. Parents moved to the area a few years ago and this has been my go to place for great food, a good IPA and friendly staff. Personal favorite is the BBQ smoked chicken sandwich. The hearty bacon and guacamole make it extra delicious. Griff's also has a great bar with tons of tvs to watch games and the best bartenders in town. The wife had the pulled pork sandwich; I had the 1/2 chicken with a side salad and ranch beans. Wife didn't care for the char mixed in with the pork. Said that the sauce was fairly generic. She got onion rings with her order; we both agreed they were tasty. My chicken was tender and juicy enough, but the BBQ sauce, again, was generic. Side salad was good; spring greens, if that's OK with you. Ranch beans were a bit on the crunchy side, but had a good, tangy sauce. Had garlic toast (or bread - it was more heated than toasted). Again, somewhat generic. I wanted to give the place 3 stars, but yelp characterizes that as "A-OK". Our assessment was more "meh". Our server was pleasant and on it, so kudos there. Donna M. mentioned no bottle of sauce available in her review, but as I looked around there were squeeze bottles of BBQ sauce on every table. Problem is, same generic stuff. Griff's is located in Copperopolis Square, a small village established within the last 10 years or so in the foothills, still trying to establish a footing and identity. Copperopolis sure needs a place like Griff's. I really like the decor, amenities and plenty of facilities. The place was very clean each time we were there. The waitresses all seem to be happy, but new to the job. We were really happy that they serve breakfast. Copper needs a good breakfast joint. The first time we had breakfast the waiter got it right when he told the cook burn the bacon, but the last two times the waitresses got it totally wrong and the bacon came half cooked. Today, I was surprised when a party of four and then a party of three were turned away for breakfast at 10:15, because the kitchen was changing over for lunch. Buisiness must be good but I hope the breakfast crowd doesn't quit coming around cause the morning staff can't get it right. Dinner has always been terrific. The ribs are wonderful! I was plesently surprised that when the ribs came to the table they weren't smothered in sauce. My friend said that the brisket was good. Both times we've been there for dinner they've ran out of the brisket. Don't know why they have to ring a bell and yell ya ho when they run out of brisket. I have been here before but This time was a completely different experience. We go out to eat for the experience and typically because we don't want to cook. We were traveling back to the Bay and wanted to stop And relax and get something to eat before we hit traffic. This was the worst service we have ever had. Not only did we sit for the upside of 15 min before getting our drinks but after we ordered-we never saw our server again until the bill. Then we even sat for quite some time before she ever showed up. She Made us feel like we were bothering her.. never made eye contact never refilled drinks and even when we were checking with her bout leaving said thanks and vanished.
