As my last review indicated, I gave this place one more try and had their meats............now it is down to 1 star (because I can't give zero)! Friend and I sat down and were told, "We don't have pull pork nachos or the brisket sandwich today." So we assumed that left us with only ribs and chicken to try. Well when placing our order we were told they do have pulled pork and brisket as meats!? We're still wondering why they had the meats for those dishes, but weren't serving them. ..............I guess the bread and chip delivery didn't arrive????? Anyway, we got a three meat platter to share, I had a wedge salad, and friend ordered deep fried mushrooms. Wedge salad was good, mushrooms were great (pretty hard to mess up deep fried food)................and now for the meats (and I reluctantly call them meat). The ribs were some of the worst I've ever had, very little meat and the jerky-style meat that was on the bone was nearly impossible to pull off with my teeth. The brisket was cut way too thick, looked like a slice of pot roast, and tasted like dirt. The only part that was edible was the thin strip by the fat cap, because that had a little hint of flavor. I can honestly say the chicken was the WORST I've ever had at a restaurant. It was so dry that I nearly dunked it in my water in an attempt to re-hydrate it. As kids, my friend and I were both raised to clean our plates, no matter how bad the food was (usually through fear of getting beat by our parents). Well neither of us wanted to finish the chicken and last two ribs. We would have rather eaten the bark off the rafters, and it would have probably had more moisture and flavor than the meats! I have had some pretty bad attempts at BBQ on my travels around the nation, but this place is BY FAR the worst. My friend commented that if someone told him to make the worst chicken possible, he couldn't make it as bad as what we had here! We are frequent diners at Griffs, and I have to say that they NEVER disappoint!!!! From the pasta dishes to the sandwiches to the salads, the food is always spot on and delicious! And there are enough choices on the menu never to get bored. The drinks never disappoint either! These drinks aren't your normal restaurant watered down drinks!!! The dessert menu is limited, but once you try the cobbler or bread pudding, you'll never want anything else!!!! The staff is very nice and friendly, and actually try to get to know you! We had the bottle caps appetizer. Slices of pickle jalapenos peppers with beer battered that was way too salty! Grilled shrimp salad... Poor choice of dressing . It was OK. Rib eye steak at $29 was nothing at all with aweful choice of sides. Sorry ass warm French fries and half ear of corn. A sad day for something that was expected to be delicious but NOt! The waitress gave me the bill without asking me if I care to have any deserts that they offer that's so called homemade!! Overall reception from the restaurant is NAH!!!! Absolutely delicious food, enticing environment and courteous staff.. i've eaten there a minimum of four times I am not from the area but I make sure to bypass and stop there for lunch.. my favorite is the BLT sandwich & the pulled pork sandwich, you cannot go wrong with any of the side dishes... they also make an outstanding Bloody Mary! Stay away from the pulled pork sandwich. My daughter got the pulled people sandwich this week and got really sick for a full day and a half. I think it was food poisoning. The last time I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, I got bad diarrhea. I thought it was just a coincidence but now that my daughter got sick, I think it is the food. Won't be back. read more

Service was mediocre, dirty environment and over cooked food. We were visiting with friends and decided to dine at Griffs because my husband was craving ribs. Which they claimed was their specialty. Their highchairs are too low compared to their tables, my daughter is 16 months and if she went forward she would have hit her head on the edge of the table which had these bolts protruding out (not very kid friendly at all). The food was all over cooked, their ribs were so tough and dry that my husband couldn't even finish them. And their mac and cheese was tasteless. Our BIGGEST problem with the restaurant was the FLIES!!! We had 10-20 flies at our table alone!! It completely grossed us out and really spoiled our whole experience. The only reason we gave 2 stars instead of 1 was because the Longhorn burger our friend got was good and their potato salad was really good as well. It doesn't make up for the flies though. Sorry. My reply to Michelle who commented below: The dirty environment WAS the flies. And there is plenty of things that can be done to prevent them. Fly paper, air curtains at all the doors, heck you could even get a big bug zapper. SOMETHING would have been better then nothing. Flies carry so many diseases and to have 10-20 of them landing on our food, drinks and ourselves was disgusting!! And I'm sorry, I've been to many restaurants and have sat in booths while my daughter was in one of their high chairs and the table was never that high. And to have bolts protruding out is just ridiculous. And we did request a booster since it was too dangerous for her to be in the high chair, and that resulted with my husband or I having to put our arm around her the whole time to insure she didn't fall out. And I'm sorry, but our server saw we were struggling, and we even told her the reason we needed the booster. If a table would have been better, SHE should have offered it. And I'm glad your ribs were great, but my husband LOVES ribs. And it's a joke in our house that he'll never leave a rib uneaten. Seated by a friendly waitress/hostess, good start. She got 3 menu's and tossed them at us hitting the silverware. Not good, why not hand your customer the menu. There were several flies buzzing around the table as there were on my previous two visits; again, not good. We asked to be reseated and they put us at a table under a blower so the flies would not land on us, solved the problem for us but not the people who took our old table. A waiter was assigned to our table. He went MIA after every encounter. He took a long time to take drink/appetizer orders. Didn't bring the drinks. Appetizer was slow out of the kitchen. We had the pulled pork nachos which were actually very good. I ordered a two item combo (chicken and brisket) and my son and his girlfriend sandwiches. My combo was almost cold, warm at best. The brisket was old and dry. My impression was that it was made and stored, got dried out and was resurrected with au jus sauce. It was definitely not hot out of the smoker. We ordered a seasonal cobbler for desert. It took 35 minutes to arrive. A table of 4 and a table of 6 came in well after we did and made it out before us. Summary: Flies, slow service, warmed up/resurrected food, good appetizer, main course nothing special. They need Chef Robert Irvine to do a makeover on quality and service. read more

Stumbled upon the soft opening of Griff's yesterday. Wow! What a great find. The food was fantastic, and the staff knowledgeable and professional. I came straight from the lake in my flip-flops and felt at ease in the casual environment. I can't wait to go back again. Pulled pork nachos - super yummy! Great sweet BBQ sauce and good ratio of chips-cheese-pulled pork! Corn Chowder - nice thick soup base, just wish the temperature was a bit hotter - it was slightly room temp. Brisket Sandwich - as told by Hubby was really saucy and the slices of brisket was thicker than he'd like which made it harder to bit through. But he said he'd order it again. In one word: AMAZING! We were up in Copper, visiting family, and decided to skip on making dinner and go into town. So glad we made that decision! Upon entering, we were welcomed by most of the staff. Our party of 7 was seated immediately and the owner came and greeted us personally. After a round of awesome appetizers, our dinners arrived. The pulled pork sandwich was incredible! Melt in your mouth perfection! The ribs were just as amazing and tender! My first job was in a BBQ restuarant and they always reigned very high on my interest list. Well, they have officially been moved down to #2, cause Griff's has moved in and taken the #1 spot! Went here today, we live in Copper and eat out on occasion. Very disappointed. Not sure if the recent lack of help or their distributors have changed but the Mac n cheese was box made and the meat was cool. Defiantly has changed for the worse. Won't be back again. Griff's has had opening/growing pains, as mentioned in other reviews, but there has been noticeable improvement thru both the service and food and I believe this will continue. While ordering to plates-on-table time is still too slow it is much better. The prime rib dinner or sandwich remains a menu highlight as is the pulled pork. Having had the baby back ribs now for months (and recently trying the Newport-Naples Rib Co version in Newport Beach) I'll place them amongst California's best. French fries also quite good and the place is kid friendly. For winos corkage is a measly $6, and they have stemless glasses. The $6 applies to magnums too so drink up! read more

First time here..food was ok, basic BBQ fare, nothing that special. Signs everywhere saying they DO NOT comply with state guidelines to prevent COVID-19, no distancing between tables, no masks on servers. They do give you salt and pepper in small plastic ramekins instead of on the table but you have to ask for it. Service was really not great, our server was trying hard but she was scrambling to pull herself out of the weeds the entire time and was literally throwing straws on our table in the rush, no refills, that sort of thing. The food was fine, but the menus don't have descriptions on them so the poor server had to explain what everything was and she obviously didn't have time to do that but otherwise we didn't know what we were getting. We stopped in this strange town in search of a delicious BBQ bacon burger after a long backpacking trip. We wanted brewery quality food and beer. While the prices were a little over the top, the food was well worth the splurge. The special was a beef/bacon patty with slow smoked BBQ pork, jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, onion rings and bacon with a side of garlic fries. We love this place! We actually went up to Copper to visit some friends and they took us here to their "new local favorite.". The Mac n cheese is super yummy. The ribs were cooked to perfection. Fantastic. The full order of nachos with pull pork was huge in size. A lot of pork, bbq, sour cream, salsa, and chips; enough to feed me, my wife, and daughter. A great meal for our family. The taste of it was the best nachos we had ever. The price at first was scary for the nachos but the size portion solved that problem. Very big and very good nachos. We also received the onion rings with ranch and they were the best I have ever had. If this a prelude to their steaks, I cannot wait for try them. Until next time. We will be back. read more

When we first walked in, we were impressed by the atmosphere of the restaurant; it is decorated in a rustic western look. We were then told to pick a seat and when, finally, a waitress comes over she complains about how busy it is. (There were only 4 partially full tables... really??) The menus were very dirty and all had a weird sauce on them. I decided to order iced tea (NO LEMON AND WITH SUGAR!!!) and the "almost vegan" sandwich with a brioche bun. When my tea came over I was shocked to see a lemon in it and no sugar (really, were my directions that hard to follow)? When I again asked for sugar, it was another 8 minutes before I got it. My sandwich tasted really bland, and the brioche bun was not at all sweet, but sour and bitter. The vegetables in the sandwich were cut WAY TOO LARGE. Service? Alright. But took WAY TOO LONG to get our food. read more

We stumbled upon this place completely by accident. Made a last minute decision to take this route back to Reno because we are always looking for new adventures. I was very worried when we turned on this highway that there would be nowhere to eat and I would become hangry. The first thing i noticed was the door on this place is gigantic. It was very busy on a Saturday night in July so we sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and served us well. I got the pulled pork and my husband got ribs. The pulled pork was tender and moist almost a little soggy but good. The onion rings were huge and crispy. My husband's ribs were smoky, meaty and tender. The only anomaly I can point out is the wimpy serving of garlic bread. He chose garlic bread with his dinner, which turned out to be one very small round slice of garlic bread. The bartender said that was the normal serving. It was lame. The interior of the restaurant is outfitted with reclaimed wood from mines in the area. It's all quite cozy and welcoming. They also have an outdoor seating area that appears dog friendly. It's worthy of pulling off the highway for a quick bite. read more

What a weird town. It reminded me of Great America where there are hidden speakers playing "Celebrate" by Cool n The Gang on repeat where ever you go..... I would mostly recommend this place so you can say you went to Copperopolis, which is a surreal little town in a barren, empty purchase of the California plains. As to the food, it's fine, but it's what I think of as white man's BBQ - which means what? It has no soul; it has no magic touch. This is not to say white people can't make the greatest BBQ (they can and do) - just that they often settle for something a lot like this. More specifically: The pulled pork sandwich ($12), their #1 seller, served on a dutch crunch roll with BBQ sauce, coleslaw, and a side of their "Copper Gold Hogwash". The brisket sandwich ($12) served on a dutch crunch roll with BBQ sauce, onions, peppers, and also a dipping sauce of what I cannot confirm to be "Copper Gold Hogwash". The french fries were too salty and tasted like cafeteria fries. The onion rings, which I heard some young turk call 'the bomb,' were not the bomb, but good enough to be better than average. The dipping sauces? The date liked hers with the pulled pork sandwich. With my brisket, it tasted like an ordinary au jus from any braised beef sandwich. The overriding complaints would be the lack of smoke in the meats, the scarce and boring BBQ sauce, and too much bread-to-meat. As noted, the food is good - just fine. It's just not slap-your-mama good - which is a turn of phrase, people (I'd never slap your mama, much less my own). When I head back to Gold country and feel like good, simple, consistent food - and I want to wash it all down with a couple of cold beers - I'll go back. The service is brisk and friendly and it's the type of place where the young waitresses put smiley faces on your bill. I like that touch, always have - and so do you. I was pleasantly surprised! I was with a couple of friends and we were trying to find a place to eat and we stumbled upon this place. The decor was nice and the food was really good! I had the BLT which the menu says it will be the best BLT you will ever have... and it was true! (For me anyway) The service was great, however there was one waitress who was being mean to another waitress.. you could hear her yelling at her in the kitchen. (Maybe they thought we couldn't hear?) Constructive criticism maybe.. but I feel like customers shouldn't have to hear that. It was really awkward. read more

The pork ribs are boiled before sticking them in the oven to "finish them off" before serving. (A time saver process for restaurants & a work around to comply with air quality emissions laws.) Not what I would call the best or a genuine barbecue. The ranch beans are very good. Not a genuine chili either. If you know beans about chili, you would know chili has no beans in it. More correctly, this is a chili with beans. The "chili" is interesting to good. I should have had the chili without the cheese melted over the top, but the menu didn't mention that is the way it comes unless you know enough about it before you order. If I go back, I will try something other than the pork rib dinner. read more

Horrible Horrible Horrible!!! Never have I walked out of a restaurant. Waited an hour and half for our food, never got it. Many People that came after us received their food but Ours never came. Waitress just walked by us saying she will check on it. We tried paying for our beers, that should have been on the house by that time, and that took 15 minutes. The people at the next table that came in after us and had finished their food, felt so bad that they where going to by our beers. Beautifully located in the relatively new Town Square of Copperopolis. A rustic, warm, inviting spot. Impressive front door, too! The food is pretty good, especially the brisket. Ribs were adequate, could be bigger. Tasty BBQ sauce on the table. Don't forget the onion rings! Portions were healthy. Prices, reasonable. Plenty of choices on the dinner menu, as well. Could use 2-3 more beers on tap, though. North Coast Brewery's Red Seal Ale goes so well with any BBQ, Griff's or otherwise. I like having the choice between either a 16 or 22 ounce brew. Service was enthusiastic and friendly, but quite slow. They appeared to be seriously understaffed on a very busy Saturday night. We arrived at roughly 5:00 P.M. to a quiet restaurant and departed around 6:45 P.M. to all seats filled and a line at the door; great to see such support at a largely deserted town square. Tip: Sit at a table, not a booth. The booths are too narrow and a bit uncomfortable, especially after a 3-meat platter. Will go back to Griff's. Cheers... read more
