I came on Sat. night to look at the menu. I was greeted by a very welcoming hostess. She informed me on the lunch, dinner and brunch items. She also encouraged me to look around. I found the use of space was done extremely well. My guest and were blown away by Sun. Brunch! In spite of being short handed on servers, waitress Maggie took care of use with precision. Service was great, she was very very busy but did a great job. Not so much for the food. What's with those overcooked grease soaked fries. You would think that they would use fresh burger instead of 2 over cooked dry burgers for a sandwich. Great local feel. Had the prime rib special and house soup. Overlapping arrival of both large plates was odd. Prime was good although presentation and texture had an essence of "good leftover" warmed up. Had to "work" the prime with steak knife. Okay the food was okay get the shrimp skewers get the the drinks the draft selection is great is not that diverse the everybody looked at me like I had three heads. I had to get the bartender's attention and where to place my order if she said she didn't see me but I know she did I clearly stuck out enjoyed all of the brews if I would have got in earlier I would have sat had more when I'm traveling through Dover this is definitely going to be a stop of mine for a drink read more

I tried this place again the following Sunday (last week) and still the same story but worse. My friend ordered a coffee, didn't receive it until she walked and found the waitress. When she finally got her coffee, the glass looked like coffee was poured all on the outside and there was a long hair hanging out of it. This place has potential but they need to replace the staff. They are disgusting... and it took forever to get out of there again. read more

My husband and I went here yesterday for dinner. If you live in the Dover area and have not yet dined here you are missing a gem. The food is superb...presentation makes you feel that you are dining in a well established five star venue. Update: We ate here for the first time tonight. 5 stars for the restaurant ambiance! The restaurant is in a former private residence and seeing the tables set up in different rooms was neat. The hostess (maybe owner?) was super friendly and stopped by to check on us a couple times through our meal. Our server was friendly and helpful with our questions. We ordered two orders of the 6 oz filet $22 (one with zucchini and baked potato, one with wild rice and zucchini) and two orders of the 10 oz NY strip $20 (one with quinoa and zucchini, one with wild rice and baked potato). On the steaks, they were seasoned very well and for the price, reasonably sized. The zucchini was very good, not mushy at all. The quinoa and wild rice were also very good. For big eaters, portions will seem on the smaller side, but we didn't mind it because we were able to order an appetizer to share (house dry rub wings, $7 for 10 special) and still finish our meals. The wine by the glass selection was good as well and priced reasonably. All in all, we had a great experience and I look forward to visiting again! read more

One of our go to places to take guests & always a reliable place to get dinner. The atmosphere is quite beautiful and the food is consistently very good. Unlike other places in town where you have to be careful what you order, as the food is inconsistent, everything I or my guests have tried has been first rate. I have particularly loved the eggplant stacks, the salmon and the potato croquettes. I also love that their vegetable of the day is never just steamed but always an interesting preparation. read more

Our dining out group had dinner last night. The service was great, the foo was outstanding. The presentation was terrific and the flavors were outstanding. I had the special, a 10 oz strip steak. It was so tender, you really didn't need a knife. The only disappointing thing was that dessert was limited to lava cake. I gave one star because I can't give 1/2 or zero. Was this restaurant created to meet Gordon Ramsay? The Gray Fox is a Kitchen Nightmares episode in the making. I seriously thought Gordon might pop out of the kitchen at any moment. I'm so glad I didn't get food poisoning. Chose for my sons birthday, we should have drove to Rehoboth. Utterly disappointing.. Terrible terrible hamburgers? How can you make a hamburger terrible? My college age son could not stomach the hamburger I was served. The Gray Fox will make you wish you had gone to McDonalds. First, they did not have Wellington, quinoa, tiramisu, one of the ales, baklava, and only had one potato by the time we arrived for our reservation. Our waiter forgot our soup and messed up two of our orders, to which he replied, "I can't control the fact that I was busy and forgot your soup". Only "vegetable" was tatertots, which were worse than those from Sonic. And I am being nit-picky but two of the words were mispelled on the menu. Oh, and the owner called us a liar when we mentioned that alot of the foods were not available, but not before she sat and chatted with her daughter at the table across from us for about 5-10 minutes. read more

We had a wonderful dinner tonight at this fun and friendly restaurant. We had a party of four and were seated promptly. Our waitress was pleasant. She lacked a bit of knowledge on drinks as my husband wanted a manhatten made with Canadian Club. She had no idea what CC was or if they had it but she promptly went to check. The owner came back with her and discussed the options they had with my husband and he received his drink shortly after that. Three of our party ordered burgers and were very pleased with their food. I ordered the Rahm pork Schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce and it was absolutely delicious. Had everyone at my table try it and they all agreed it was excellent. Extremely large portion so go hungry if you order that. We will definitely go back and will recommend friends go, as well! read more

I would just like to give a hearty shout-out to the Grey Fox Grille & Public House for helping brighten an otherwise very difficult day. I had extended family in town for my mother's funeral, and we needed a place to gather after the ceremonies, to refresh, eat, drink, visit, and share love and memories. I wanted to share the history and uniqueness of my hometown with my out of town relatives, and began searching (just a few days ago) for a place that truly represented the charm of Dover. The first two downtown-area restaurants I called said they couldn't accommodate a group of 16 on a Saturday night, so I decided to give Dover's newest restaurant a try, and was relieved to find that, not only could they accommodate us, they seemed happy to have us. We were thrilled to find, when we arrived, that we had been given a small room to ourselves, perfect for just such an occasion. The place was historic, beautifully decorated, and it charmed the whole family. When we asked about the history of the building and the business, they were happy to share their wealth of knowledge with us, further charming the out-of-towners. The food was wonderful, the service was attentive and friendly, and the chef/owner Diana, her sister, and the sous chef came out multiple times to chat, help, check in, and ensure that we were all happy and well taken care of. The chef even spent time talking to my littlest cousin, 4-year-old Catherine, to be sure she understood her likes and dislikes before serving her exactly what she wanted--a plain plate of pasta with several little cups of toppings on the side, in case she wanted to add something. Our server, Rachel, had the patience of a saint. All in all, it was one of the most pleasant dining experiences any of us have had in a long time, making me glad, in the end, that we were turned down by our first two choices. OK, here it is. Showed up on time with reservations for a brunch, was seated in about 5 minutes. It took 20 minutes for the staff to serve a cup of coffee and a few iced teas, Ok, I get it, it's busy. 20 minutes later, the staff took our order, very uncomplicated choices. Was very perplexed when the wait for the food took well over an hour. At that time, we were advised it was "being prepared." Total wait time for a very simple order was about one hour and fifteen minutes. I lay the blame squarely with the management and owner and not the staff. The staff was polite but very exasperated and literally running in circles trying to maintain service for a lot of customers, they were clearly overwhelmed. I left a very generous tip(about 30%) for our poor waitress but will squarely tell the owners that we will definitely not be coming back. If they are trying to engender a customer base, they need to really examine the customer experience and make some major adjustments. Btw, food was good but not worth the two-hour-plus experience that really should have only been about an hour or maybe a little over. read more

My wife and I's go to restaurant in Dover. Great original cocktails and menu. In probably 10 trips, we've never had a bad meal or drink. Service can be a little spotty sometimes in regards to time, but servers are always very nice and professional. The owner checks in on you usually as well. I totally recommend the Beef Wellington it was impeccably done to perfection and it melted in my mouth. I rarely find restaurants even attempting it anymore. This is the third time I went to this restaurant with my husband. We had the Tuesday burger and beer special for $10 each. They were very good hamburgers. We also had two sides each. Mine was a baked potato and couscous. He had a baked potato and glazed carrots. Our service was very good.
