Kevin is a nice guy, but ultimately cared about getting paid for time rather than work, if that makes sense. In short, we paid him well (more than the rate we had been quoted over the phone), but he couldn't diagnose the problem with our HVAC unit and help us. We had to hire a second HVAC contractor to get the job done, which ended up being super simple. More detail, in case it's helpful to others: Kevin spent almost 3 hours trying to figure out why our Mitsubishi mini-split wasn't listening to our Nest thermostat and turning on. Kevin charged us $325 (the $150 diagnostic visit fee we had been quoted by Lily over the phone, plus an unexpected $150 for one hour of labor time, plus tax), saying he was "90% sure" we needed to replace the control board. Kevin expressed to us that "a licensed Mitsubishi technician" would need to troubleshoot our unit with Mitsubishi on the phone to definitively determine the problem. He said the call "would take hours." Turns out the issue was super simple and would've been caught through basic troubleshooting! We had another HVAC contractor come, and in 10 minutes he discovered the issue was a dirty drain pan.

Their price was fair. I will only call them from now on.

We hired ProTemp HVAC for work on our steam heat boiler. Nick was responsive, communicative,…read morereasonably priced, and went above and beyond. The problem with our system wound up being much more complex than we originally anticipated due to an improper and unsafe electrical installation by our home's previous owners. This was further complicated when we learned that the boiler company no longer produced the part needed to repair the wiring on our model. Not only did Nick move heaven and Earth to obtain the needed part, but he honored our original price, despite the significant extra time and work that was involved in the repair. He explained everything he was dong as he did it and made a point of prioritizing doing the job correctly rather than cutting corners. ProTemp gets our highest possible recommendation. We have a new HVAC technician for life.

I hired Perfect Temp HVAC to repair a refrigerant line on my newly installed 24K mini-split, which…read moreincluded brazing the line, evacuating, and recharging the system under a workmanship warranty. Shortly after, I noticed the unit's power draw seemed high even after reaching its setpoint. When I raised this, I was initially told wattage concerns were "outside the scope" of the repair -- despite the warranty explicitly covering the refrigerant charge, which directly affects power draw. Over several exchanges I received inconsistent explanations, including generic AI-generated info that contradicted itself between messages, and was offered a $250 charge to look into an issue tied to his own work. When I asked for a proper diagnostic, I was told it wasn't possible on this unit's design -- something I only learned the reasoning behind after calling the manufacturer directly myself, who explained the correct method in one call. That's information I'd expect a technician working on this equipment to already know or offer proactively. He did eventually agree to come check the weld under warranty at no charge, but never showed up for the visit, later stating only that he'd weighed in the correct refrigerant charge originally -- a claim I had no way to verify without the visit. To be fair, my own follow-up measurements (airflow temperature split, wattage range) ultimately fell within normal parameters, so the underlying repair may well be sound. But getting clear, proactive answers about a system he installed took repeated pushback and research on my own part, and a promised follow-up never happened. Two stars reflects a repair that likely held up technically, alongside a service experience that made getting there far harder than it should have been.

It was easy to find a time that worked. He also answered all our questions quickly and clearly. The technicians who came were very professional. They asked if they needed to take off their shoes, which I really appreciate. I offered them foot covers instead, as we are a shoes-off home. They were very kind, informative, and not only did the job, but cleaned the area around where they worked after they were done. They were on time, which is a huge in NYC and asked before moving their truck in our parking space instead of assuming, which again, is a huge thing in NYC. I am very pleased and the costs were very reasonable. I definitely would recommend this service and if I need future AC needs, I know who to call! Thank you!

He first spent about 30 minutes checking the unit, then gave me the price and left to buy the part. After that, he spent another 2.5 hours fixing his car before coming back. When he returned, he spent less than 30 minutes repairing the unit and then rushed to leave because he had another job. While he was here, he complained that the attic was too hot and even asked for help fixing his car. The AC worked right after he repaired it, but it stopped working again within 30 minutes. Since he had already left, I contacted him and asked him to come back to fix it again. He came back the next day but did not really do anything. He said the unit was making sound and running. He didn't even go up to the attic to double check again. so he claimed the outside unit needed to be cleaned. He then quoted me $400 per unit, for a total of $1,200 to clean three units, which I believe was extremely overpriced. I told him to clean only one unit first so we could see if the AC would work, but he refused and left immediately. On the same day, I had to call another company to schedule service. I paid another $200 for the repair, plus $290 to clean the outside unit, and the AC has worked without any issues since then. The other specialist told me that DC Air had installed the replacement part in the wrong area, which caused the unit to stop working again. I found this company on Yelp and saw that it had a Yelp Guarantee, but after this experience, I no longer trust these so-called reviews and guarantees. It is better to find someone through friends or people who have actually hired and recommended them before.
