I read that this place is a hit or miss. I probably got a miss the day I came. I ordered the chilaquiles, I'm Mexican and I love spicy food and chilaquiles should be a little spicy or with a kick but these were not as I expected them. They weren't bad but I wouldn't say I was too crazy about them. The sauce was ok, no spice to them. The beans were good didn't seem as they came out of a can and the rice served had burnt parts on it. My mother had the chile relleno plate and really liked hers. I wasn't very impressed. The bathrooms were unisex and they were really dirty without toilet paper. That really says a lot to me. I appreciate a good restroom. The waitress was very kind and helpful. She would get the 5 stars Seems as if she had a lot of tables to serve and may have needed a little more help. my bf and i wandered in here on a rainy cold day just to peruse the menu and see if it's what we wanted. instead, we were seated...so...we just decided to go with it. first of all, this place boasts that it's a mexican and american food restaurant... i ended up with the carne asada wet burrito and the bf ordered the $5.95 special of the day which was a carne asada quesadilla with a side of beans. we also ordered chips and salsa to start. the chips were fried at the moment we ordered them...fresh and HOT. the salsa was homemade (the BEST, hands down, i've ever had). there was spice to it, but it didn't burn my mouth off...which i like. ha ha both dishes included the asada meat (sooo yummy and not chewy) and tomotoes (which the bf happens to hate...don't know why, don't ask). mine also had beans and cheese and onion, his had cheese. this place was the ish. the service was ON (there were only two other tables...but still) and the food was outstanding!!! i'm definitely going back. i have a hankering for that salsa ALREADY! read more

TERRIBLE. Came in early on a Sunday morning and was left unattended or even greeted by a server for more than 10 minutes. Had to ask a bus boy for a glass of water and he acted like I was inconveniencing him. Ended up walking out a few minutes later because we still hadn't received any service. Never again. My mom and I went for breakfast today.. pretty excited because of the reviews.. we sat down. I order coffee for myself and ice tea for my mom.. Our drinks were brought to us. And they walked away.. we didn't have silverware.. we had to ask twice and finally got them. My mom ordered steak plate with mash potatoes and gravy and i had the menudo (not impressed). The gravy looked clumpy and not because of the mashed potatoes they were sitting on.. so my mom started eating around the gravy. She had asked for italian salad dressing for her small salad that was on the plate. It was brought to her..it didn't look like italian it was some brown stuff with oil sitting on the top. So i stirred it tasted it and within seconds the oil came back to the top and the brown stuff went back down. I flagged down a waitress and i said this isnt italian dressing. She said it is. (I know what italian dressing tastes like, i have it all the time) my mom asked them to bring her ranch instead.. so when she started eating her mashed potatoes we found a hair in it. We were done. We called the waitress asked for something else. No manager came to our table or anyone of management to say they were sorry for what had happened. So will never come back here again. read more

I had the Tuna Melt. Added avacado, and some Jalapenio Serrano you feel me. It was as Tasty as a Tuna Melt can be. The prices are cheap and it has a super cool vibe. You can just sit back and people watch. I also had the Apple pie. It was fresh and tasted like a REAL pie. Not something you would find at Albertsons. I thought I would give this place a try since it had pretty good reviews and a lot of people mentioned the menudo being very tasty. My daughter and I went and had a horrible experience. I didn't even want to pay for it - it was so bad. The service was slow and inattentive. When the menudo arrived I did not have any garnishes for it. The waitress didn't bring anything. I had to ask for everything where as at every other place that serves menudo, salsa, chile flakes, oregano, onions, cilantro and lemon are standard and usually arrive prior to the food. She asked me what kind of tortillas I would like yet she never brought them - I had to ask for them. My daughter ordered chilaquiles and they were not good at all! They tasted like they were fried in dirty oil. Everything on the plate tasted like old fryer oil. My menudo was not going to be good no matter what I did to it. She would not bring water even tho we asked a couple times. Literally all the tables nearby had refills and were given full attention. One table was even done eating and she kept refilling waters and coffee. She wouldn't even look in our direction. Finally I thought it was too ridiculous and tried to get her attention so I could just get my check and go but that never happened so I got up and went to her. 24 bucks for shitty food that I didn't eat and worse service! I run a very busy restaurant in a high profile area and this would never fly in my restaurant. This place is horrible and I would never ever go back. Usually the server checks on you a few minutes after the food is dropped but not this one! If I could give zero stars I would! Save your money. read more

Overall experience, I would never recommende this place. The waitresses are understaffed, cold food, wrong orders. I requested to speak to The Manager, who appeared to be mute. The Manager notified cashier not to charge for one order, no apologies, no were sorry & no eye contact. The "best" menudo in Los Angeles, by far. If you have a hangover from the night before, you need to stop by Greenleaf Café and have your fix of menudo, believe me, it works. I'm giving this two stars because of the service. Went in today for breakfast and sat at the counter up front. It took almost 15 minutes to order coffee and a water. Several waiters and waitresses passed us by and never asked if we had been helped. Finally we ordered. The food is mediocre but the coffee was pretty good. The owner seems to have his favorites who seem to be regulars. He filled up the people's coffee cups directly next to us and didn't even ask if we wanted a refill. First time here! Breakfast was delicious. Huevos a la Mexicans. French toast. Frijoles! Build your own omelette. Don't get me started on the potatoes! My Huevos had freshly diced jalapeños , tomatoes, and onions. Beans were like homemade. Not from a can! Wife loved her custom omelette. Great service. Always kept our coffee full. My husband & I went to Greeleaf Cafe in Hollywood before going to the Theater. It was rather busy when we arrived but we were able to order our food and find a seat at the counter while waiting to be served. We were facing the kitchen which had glass window so you could see everything being prepared. While waiting, I saw things in the kitchen that should never have taken place. The prep staff was using their bare hands to reach into salad, fries, and other food from containers and put it on the plates to be served. Not utensils or gloved hands, but bare hands. Any plates were being returned for cold food when the prep staff would remove cold items from the plates by bare hands and put them back into the containers with like items while they put the plate of cold food in the warming oven the be heated. About 30% of the food going out to the tables was being returned. I was thoroughly disgusted and went up to the cashier and received a refund. I will never go back there. read more
