I really gave the Greenleaf Cafe a chance. In fact my family of five gave it 8 chances. But today was the final straw. If you are a regular you will be greeted with kindness and your order will be promptly served. Otherwise your experience will be full of frustrations. Of the 8 times we went, 6 times we were ignored and no server waited on us until I had to flag one down. The older lady and younger man who wear all black are always hustling. The older woman is picking up dishes everywhere at all times. The young man does a great job of finding seating for those waiting to be seated. However the hustle ends there. The sole male waiter of the restaurant walks back and forth from the kitchen to the tables with no urgency to get anyone any food served. The rest of the waitresses give a vibe that they rather be working behind the counter than to be serving tables. Today again, we were ignored. Each of the waitresses saw us but none of them wanted to accept responsibility for our table. When we finally did get our food, it was incomplete. Not once did someone come to us and ask if we were OK or needed a refill. I asked my wife jokingly if they would even notice us if we stood up and walked away without paying. Not even the bill came to our table, like it did for everyone else. You may be asking why we went back 8 times. Well as a Whittier native I wanted to enjoy this restaurant like many of the other reviewers have posted. Unfortunately for my family it's not mean to be. I've never posted to Yelp before. My brother talked real big about this place so I had to try it out and I didn't think it was amazing as he said. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing and need to try something else next time. On this visit I had two eggs with chile verde. I have to say the meat was a little dry and was really not impressed. My mom had their menudo and she really enjoyed it but kept competing it a menudo from a different location that she really enjoys. Maybe I should have tried that instead of the chile verde. My wife had a club sandwich that she enjoyed. Device was a little slow, if we needed something we had to flag someone dawn. They were either not fully staffed or just too busy for the staff they did have. I might give this place another try but who knows when. We visited this restaurant for the first time today. The food was decent. I had the huevos with chilaquiles. The eggs, beans and rice were good as well as the pork with salsa verde. The chilaquiles were not so good a bit on the hard side. As if the tortilla was either old or not well prepared. I also ordered a side of pancakes and those were lousy. They were a bit burnt so that killed my appetite for pancakes so we left most of them on the plate. Now here is my major problem with this establishment. If there is something I frown on its terrible service. The employees and the owner were celebrating a birthday out in front of all of us customers. That's okay I have no problem with that I think we were all willing to wait for them to sing happy birthday to this employee. I felt as if that was nice of them to do for that waitress. My issue arose when they decided to all take pictures with the B Day waitress. Leading this dumb ass move was the dumb ass owner with his camera. We waited for about 10 to 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge us but no one came because they were all taking pictures and slicing the pieces of cake amongst themselves. The only person on the floor near our table was a bus boy. So we actually got up and took napkins and utensils from other tables. We also asked for our check and that was also delayed. Any how, we don't mind employees celebrating we feel everyone deserves a quick break to enjoy a piece of cake and for someone to sing happy birthday to you if your into that but the owner must realize that we are customers that are paying not only for good food but for excellent service. This restaurant has 4 stars I wonder why? But then again most people put up with service like this on a daily basis and maybe that's why this owner is so complacent when it comes to caring about his customers. Whenever I experience bad service I don't really blame the employees I blame the management and the ownership of the establishment. Great cafe for breakfast. The service is the fastest i've ever experienced. I ordered two eggs (over medium), hash browns, sausage & bacon, and pancakes. (I think it is called a Mucho Gusto.) The order arrived in under five minutes. Everything was cooked perfectly and with coffee was under nine dollars. Excellent deal! Tip: I showed up about 7:10 a.m. and the place started filling up. I've been coming here for years , usually easy basic Mexican food place. I like it because they offer a tiny cup of menudo. This cold rainy morning a tiny cup of menudo seemed good. I'm kind of tired of bad service so I make it as easy as I can when I order. 1. Tiny cup of menudo 2. Chorizo and eggs 3. Extra corn tortillas 4 chips. Easy huh ? Nope - 1. Forgot Menudo 2. Forgot Chips 3. Forgot tortillas She finally came and checked at the end and asked if I still wanted tortillas. The service here has always been excellent. This place is good for an early breakfast, brunch, and a good ol' fashioned hangover. I've had the chilaquiles which hit the spot, pancakes which are decent, and menudo which always cures a hangover. It's a good little gem in Whittier. As I walked in I noticed how clean the place was and there is an A in the door from the health department. Service was very quick getting to me and helpful. I had the chili verde omelette and the hash browns. I was expecting it to be better flavor, and have some spices added to the meet. The meat was very plain and tasted like rubber. Fantastic from start to finish! My partner & I were looking for a breakfast place on Easter & found Greenleaf Cafe open, and we were delightfully surprised. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door, service was fast and friendly, the food was delicious, and the portion sizes were generous. We both had the Huevos Rancheros with Carne Asada and corn tortillas. The eggs were evenly cooked, the red sauce was flavorful, not too spicy or too bland, the beans and rice were savory and the tortillas were lightly toasted but still fluffy. Was here a year or so ago and I vaguely remembered that it took awhile to get our food but it was a good experience otherwise...well, not today. Pros: We went during the brunch hour (12ish) and had to wait a few minutes to be seated which is not bad. Our coffee was brought to us right away and hot which was great too! My husband ordered bacon and eggs (simple) and I ordered a chile relleno omelette. His bacon and eggs were fine and my relleno omelette was hot (temp.), delicious, and not spicy (it is not your typical stuffed chile relleno but shreds of green chili within the omelette with cheese). Cons: Service was lousy. We had to ask for coffee three times, creamer, napkins, tortillas, and ketchup because no one ever came over to ask even though we were seated at a table right in middle of the cafe and right in front of the counter. We waited over thirty minutes to receive our food. No apologies for the longer than normal wait. He finally came over to ask if all was okay right when he was bringing the bill!!! Was craving a salad, and as this was just a block away from the hotel I thought what the heck. Got the Cobb salad. Which came minus the blue cheese. I'm sorry...but if you don't have all the ingredients to make the meal ordered...you don't just deliver it and says...oops...we don't have cheese...you ask if I still want the meal. Staff was friendly (server had gorgeous green eyes- (has nothing to do with the food, but definitely helped the ambiance ) I ordered the huevos rancheros, it was tasty. The food is ok, most of it is nothing spectacular. But the service is pretty bad, I know it's a holiday but the place is not even close to being packed and the service was subpar. Ordering drinks and food went smoothly, but I asked for sugar for my tea and was never giving any. After seeing my waitress doing everything but get me sugar for 10 minutes I got up and grabbed some off a table that was unoccupied. After dropping off our food our waitress avoided our table like the plague. If you live in the city of Whittier I strongly recommend this place for breakfast. Later on I will be trying their lunch and dinner specials. Stopped in here a few days ago for breakfast sincr many friends rave about their food. Nice little cafe situated on Greenleaf directly across the street from Wells Fargo. A spot where many of the senior locals come. They do have tasty food, tastes homecooked. The portions are just right and the customer service is impeccable. Clean and cozy inside. Parking is either in front on street or behind the shopping center by Subway. I would suggest either this place or Mimos for breakfast.. read more

Nice large open seating area. Good beer, YES! Our server, a man, I forget his name, was great. Always at the ready. Mexican and American breakfast choices. All 71/2 of us were happy with Huevos Rancheros, Machaca con Huevos, Menudo and Chile Verde Omeleta. Did I mention they now have cold beer? Nice. Cons: Waiting area is small. I called to reserve for a larger group and when I arrived 5 mins early there were no tables. I waited outside with my group and luckily went in to check status because they were just about to sit some new arrivals before us. That was NOT good. They need to have a host paying attention if they're not going to have the table ready as promised. OH, and don't tell me you told me you maybe be busy. If you don't take reservations then say that. We have loved this place forever, even before its iteration as the Greenleaf Cafe, when owner Ramiro was a waiter and partners Bill and Gabby called it Deli Express. However, under Ramiro's ownership, with brother Louis manning the kitchen, it is the place in Whittier with the best breakfasts (the huevos rancheros is incredible), the tastiest chili verde ever, and stands as a true neighborhood hangout. Many of the original 'regulars' have passed away (the table of seniors from the local church up the street) and are now replaced with other longstanding devotees. It can get quite busy on weekend mornings, but that is a small price to pay for clean, perfectly prepared food which is consistently excellent and affordable. For convenience, we often order our breakfast to-go, and I marvel at how a hot breakfast with eggs over easy can endure a ride home and still be plump and runny, not vulcanized. Second time here. The first experience was great. But the second time was a little different. While standing waiting for my order to go, I was able to watch several waitresses and was a little disappointing. One waitress dropped something on the floor, picked it up, but didn't wash her hands. Another waitress was sweating from all over her forehead - wiped with her hands, but she didn't wash her hands. Another waitress picked several unsanitary items, put a piece of bread on the toaster, picked it up, and put butter with barehands. Eek. I'm not sure if anyone notices, these waitresses are busy, but at least take the time to be more sanitary when it comes to handling food with barehands. Ordered the delicious Menudo, but was given burnt hard tortillas :(- I live very close to the diner, but will not be going back.
