Our first time here yesterday evening. We were very happy with this establishment. The ambience of lighting and decor was wonderful. The food quality was excellent as was their service. Let's start first by saying I am Greek, and as such, we can be the worst critics for a Greek restaurant. My wife and I visited Greektown today for a late lunch/early dinner for the first time. On the way in we met Dimitri and Chef Greg, and during the course of the meal we also met both their mother and father. Beautiful people, and so welcoming! The service throughout the meal was perfect. The dining room is beautifully furnished with real tablecloths, booths, and pictures of Greece throughout. We ordered the Saganaki, Calamari, Gyro plate, and the Pastitsio. The Saganaki was hot and delicious, and was consumed in record time, along with the bread. Then came the perfectly cooked calamari in a reduced lemon sauce that was incredible! (I mean incredible!) The gyro dish meat was cooked perfectly with some delicious tsaziki sauce, and more than my wife could finish. Then came the pastitsio, (with salad and soup) which had very real and authentic Greek thick macaronia (the right way!) with a delicious meat sauce and a thick béchamel sauce to top the dish off. Could not have been more authentic in terms of what I grew up with. If you're looking for authentic, absolutely delicious, homemade Greek cuisine, run, don't walk, to Greektown! It's been a few years but we finally made it back. Oh how I missed it here. Greeted by George ( the owner) and told to grab a seat at the bar. It was going to be 20-25 mins. Sure. Ordered a bottle of wine. Recommend by George. Greek of course. !! We were seated at a nice booth. Ordered Calamari which was delicious. Then my husband ordered the special if souvlaki ( 4 skewers chicken and pork ) I ordered the Moussaka . Wonderful. Another bottle of wine recommendation again by George. First time at Greektown, have driven past this longtime restaurant for many years. Had an early weekday dinner with friend who recommended it. The restaurant hours were 4 to 10.. Even though it is undergoing a major outdoor remodel, they were open. Ordered one of the specials that included two chicken and two pork char broiled screwers with rice and vegetables. Friend had the gyro plate. Both orders came with a lemon soup and salad. We shared a baklava and cheesecake dish with dollops of white chocolate. Loved the lemon chicken soup. Both entries were very good. Portions were generous and service was good. The desert was a special treat, sugar high lasted for a while. Overall, an enjoyable dining experience. read more

Holy moly, we accidentally stumbled upon one of the best restaurants in Phoenix. This is definitely going to be one of those places we take out-of-town guests when they come to visit, and I'm already thinking through some group events we could host at Greektown in the upcoming months. This is not one of those order-at-the-counter gyros places, although the outside of the building might look like that. Once you open the door, you notice the artfully done interior, with Grecian vases and a full bar near the entrance. We took a seat at the bar and sampled some homemade sangria and lemonade while waiting for our table. This is an amazing family-run joint, with one son in the kitchen, one son serving our table, and the father intentionally breaking dishes and playing host. The food was SPECTACULAR. There's an extensive menu as well as "secret menus" every night. We started with the recommended calamari, which came in a delicious lemon sauce, and devoured the provided fresh pita and homemade bread. The lemon chicken soup was an amazing starter, and then we started in on the salad and our individual entrees. I had a split plate with the Mousaka and the Pastitsio, which tasted just like my greek uncle made when I was a kid. I also stole some of "Dimitri's special" for the day - our waiter has a rotating menu of whatever he and his brother feel like making, and this was a fresh pasta made up with greek chicken and pork. There's also an extensive Greek wine selection - can't wait to come back when I'm not pregnant to partake. 100/10 recommend. Going on my "best of Phoenix" list. read more

Amazing place. It's dark and has cool murals on the walls, the bar is centrally located as sort of the social hub. The whole family seems to work there and treats you like one of them. We have lived in the valley for about seven years and discovered Greektown restaurant last night. Truly a friendly and lively spot, with delicious food & great service. They don't take reservations, so you may need to wait a little while, but they have a bar, and you can sit and have a drink. I tried moussaka for the first time in my life and it was out of this world good. It's a casserole dish that is made with potatoes layers of eggplant and meat sauce. Topped with a baked béchamel sauce. The restaurant has been an operation for 50 years and his family owned and family ran. I'm one of these people who always reads the one star reviews even if a restaurant overall reviews are good as it is in the case of . A lot of people commented about the owner's personality. He does have a very big personality, but just relax and remember you're a guest in his house and enjoy his recommendations and boisterous mannerisms and you'll be fine... Only giving it a two stars due to ambiance and history the family brings, otherwise it would be a one star. As a Greek from Hellada, I would much rather eat at a valley Mediterranean establishment. The owner is Greek and will break a plate if it is your first visit. FYI- We.Dont.Do.That! Sometimes at weddings, it plays into the stereotype Americans have of Greeks. Ambiance is great it reminds you of a Cycladic taverna with white walls and Greek memorabilia everywhere. It is first come first serve to get a table. If it is busy you will eat at the very small bar right next to the kitchen. When I think of Authentic Greek food none of what was served comes to mind. Who drenches fried calamari with a sauce? In Greece it is either fresh or lightly fried in EVOO and lemon, no sauce. The pasta served with sauce similar to calamari lacked flavor. Out of the four of us two people ordered two different pasta dishes and they looked the same. The horiatiki (Greek salad) is NEVER served with lettuce. EVER. We had ouzo, tsiporo, wine and no amount of alcohol could make the food taste good. We ordered a little bit of everything and had so much food left over no one wanted to take it home. Then came the bill... Overpriced to say the least. Save your money and time by skipping this place and go to Alexander's Greek Kitchen in Fountain Hills instead. Entire family is from Greece, had a successful Greek restaurant in IE before moving to Fountain Hills, smaller more authentic menu and you get a beautiful view of the lake/fountain. It's worth the drive for good authentic Greek food. And they will even do a flaming saganaki for those who like that sort of thing. Definitely try the lamb, octopus or Branzino! read more

Oh my goodness!?!!! First the hilariously superb service by George and then the amazing food!!!! I will definitely be making Greektown my go-to whenever I visit Phoenix. I got the Pasteetso -- a dish I have loved for many years. It was delicious with the perfect balance of bechemel, meat, and noodles. But the side veggies!!!!!!! I could have easily only had those. They were perfectly prepared with herbs, spices, and tenderness. Pita plus two other yummy breads were served along with a full size Greek salad, tziziki sauce, and lemon rice soup. This meal was well worth the $30 and could easily be shared by two. Oh yes and when I realized the short time I had to catch my flight, George expedited the cooking of my dinner, bagged it up, and sent me on my way with a laugh and invitation to return the next time I am in Phoenix. My wife and I wanted Greek food for our date night. I was looking and looking to find something authentic with a real family atmosphere and we found it.... Greek town! This place is without a doubt the best restaurant we have eaten at in the 12 years we've been together. To start off with when we walk in the door we are greeted by the owner and bartender, he made my wife some Sangria that she absolutely loved ( she's not a Sangria fan) and that set the mood. Everyone there treated us like family and we noticed that everyone that comes in is treated like family as well. To say the food was Amazing is an understatement! Not your ordinary restaurant, they have the food on the menu and then they have the food they can put together for you just based on your tastes. Which is exactly what Demetrius did for us. Wow, food is excellent. Service is superb as well! Dimitri was our server and was very personable and very accommodating. My partner asked which of the 3 shrimp dishes he recommended and Dimitri said he could have a mix of 2 of the 3. What a great way to try different foods. Do not be fooled by the outside. Love this place, staff is friendly and food is great. Reminds me of how places used to be. Owner and sons are interact with everyone. The place is so friendly you have the hole restaurant singing happy birthday for a guest they don't know. This behavior is contagious and you can tell. Every time I come here I meet new people. I come for the food and service and end up leaving with new friends. I recommend this place. I come for Togo orders and they wouldn't treat you any different. Soup is amazing. Don't be fooled by the former pizza hut building and location next to an autozone, this place is absolutely top notch. We were treated like family from the moment we walked in the door. Had a couple wonderful glasses of various greek wines, suggested by George, while waiting to be seated. For dinner we had their famous calamari, saganaki, and the village salad with chicken. I ate village salad nearly everyday when vacationing in Greece a few years back and the salad at Greektown rivals any of them. Absolutely delicious. I was excited to try this place based on the reviews. I travel for business and look for different restaurants to try. the food was ok, gyro meet had a garlic sauce that was weird. Seems traditional so maybe just not my taste but I did like are 3 things. 1. I came in and order to go and the nice gentleman said it will be a while and offered me a drink, gave me half a glass of sangria to try. It was ok, I assumed it would be in the house since the glass was half (bad assumption). 2. It took over 30 minutes for my salad to be ready. 3 I was charged $10 for the sangria and I agreed to pay but since it was over the allowance for my work dinner (with the drink) I paid with 2 credit cards and left the tip on my personal card (20% of the total bill). They forged additional tip on my work card and that is not right. Ambiance was very family oriented, you can tell is mostly regulars, dark place and nice service. I will not visit nor recommend this business due to the experience of being over charged and persuaded to spend more while I wait. read more

A friend and I started with enjoying a friendly get together at this restaurant, but were entirely insulted by the staff and owner, and after having only two glasses of wine, we were told to leave, but only if an Uber would be called. My friend had to take us out of the restaurant in order to leave, and that was only after the owner was insistent about who was driving... it was utterly ridiculous!! The entire experience was completely disrespectful, was entirely invasive into our get together, and he had no right to invade our personal space during our dinner. No one was inebriated and no one was being disrespectful. I will NEVER go to this establishment again, and I don't recommend anyone go there, EVER!! read more

I found this restaurant on a whim one day on Yelp years ago and my friend and I went to check it out and the food and the people were quite amazing. I would go back to Greektown every so often when the craving for a good meal hit me and what I mean by that was when I lived in Detroit, Michigan on every Friday all of girls who worked in offices nearby would venture over to one of many Greek restaurants and indulge in great food and Ouzo. Well, I then moved to the desert some 40yrs ago and knew that one day I would find this restaurant called Greektown. After many trips to this place on 7th Street I realized I was going down memory lane in my head. I had turned 70 this year and I wanted to share my birthday with friends & family here at the Greektown restaurant. I called George and asked if I could bring 11 people to his restaurant to help celebrate my birthday and he said yes. George welcomed us with open arms and a genuine care, setting the tone for a unforgettable evening. While we waited for our tables George made us feel right at home offering warm hospitality that stood out immediately and a tasty sangria I might add. After dinner I asked each of my guest the same question how was your meal? And each one smiled and said you did it again another fine meal with amazing food & impeccable service. George prepares everything from his YiaYia's recipes and is very proud to tell you that these recipes are the best, (They are) The Moussaka and Pastitsio are amazing and the vegetables are prepared with lemon and cooked to perfection. The Dolmades and Spanakopita are made fresh every day and are too die for- with freshly made Avgolemono soup. Don't be fooled by the humbleness of the building. Amazing food awaits! I was so impressed with Greektown and couldn't believe I hadn't been before. The service was fantastic. We over ordered (of course). We started with their fried cheese in phyllo... this was so good... like amazing. I had the lamb chops, which is a huge portion and tasty. They come with a great salad, soup, veggies, potatoes, bread (omg so much food). The husband had a tasty (and affordable) chicken pita. We had a fabulous dinner here with another couple who goes often. They have raved about it and rightfully so, the vibe and food made for a great date night out! It's family-owned and run and it shows. They have so much passion and enthusiasm for their restaurant. We started with the Saganaki and Calamari (both YUM) - for meals we got 1/2 and 1/2 plates which is a way of trying 2 similar dishes (almost like a sampler dish but for entrees). The ladies both got 1/2 Shrimp George and 1/2 Shrimp Grigori and the guys both got 1/2 Capama and 1/2 Pastitsio.
