My friends and I were in Glacier celebrating my birthday and ended up being obsessed with the Great Bear Cafe. We passed by every day on the way into the park from Whitefish and couldn't resist starting the day here. The food is fantastic and I had the best breakfast burrito of my life here. The staff is what really makes this place unforgettable! The two women easily got to know our big group and went out of their way to make us feel welcome every day. They modified my burrito so it was vegetarian and even added extra veggies. I also tried the breakfast sandwich one day and the croissant was to die for. On my actual birthday, they treated me to a huckleberry cheesecake that I'm still thinking about. This is one of the best breakfast establishments I've ever been too! Greta experience the staff first of all is super kind and explained everything they had in detail and answered every question we had. They let us customize the burgers and were just so nice. I'll rate the food Elk Burger with bacon jam 9/10. This was really good amazing bacon jam. Soup of the day chicken soup 8/10: Solid soup. Banana pudding 10/10: Perfect banana pudding nothing I would change. Macaroni salad 10/10: Sooooo good perfect macaroni salad Huckleberry slushie 9/10: perfect introduction to huckleberry and really amazing. Amazing food and so accommodating for our group of 7! I had the breakfast burrito (with bacon) twice because it is just that delicious. The breakfast sandwhich also looked really good. I saved half of the burrito to eat in the afternoon after hiking at Glacier Park and it was perfect and helped to keep me going for the rest of the day. All the desserts (brownie, cookie, huckleberry cheesecake, carrot cake) I've had from there so far has been so good and my favorite was the carrot cake. Shoutout to Allie and the ladies for being wonderfully accommodating and also making our friend's bday special. This is a small place with about ten tables and six picnic tables. The Huckleberry Elk burger was absolutely delicious and resulted in us coming back on the way home from the park (despite the very hefty $26 price) and the special jalapeño bacon with cheese was tasty. They don't have fries, but the Hawaiian style macaroni salad was perfect. The best I've had in a long while. Simply done, great flavor. Friendly service read more

I found this place on Yelp after white water rafting. The ladies serving us were amazing at helping choose our meal. I had the elk burger with a huckleberry compote on top. The elk burger was cooked to perfection (elks has very little fat and is easy to end up with a dry chunk of meat), the bacon was perfect with its maple flavor, the huckleberry berry compote topped off this amazing burger. Don't balk at the extra few dollars you will spend here as this experience is worth it! Simply put, this is the best burger I have ever had. Too bad it is 15 hours from where I live. She was very warm and friendly as was the other waitress who delivered our meals to our table outside. I got the huckleberry buffalo burger. My husband got the bacon jam elk burger (because you can switch out beef for bison or elk). My side was the broccoli salad, and my husband got a cup of chili. The broccoli salad was made with slivered almonds, cherries, red onion, and bacon. It was delicious. My husband's chili was chock full of a variety of beans and meats. It's probably one of the best chilies we've had. The burgers were so delicious. I was skeptical about (sweet) huckleberry jam on a burger but WOW was it delicious. If you find yourself outside Glacier National Park, include a lunch stop at Great Bear Cafe since they aren't open for dinner. The food and service are fantastic! read more

Nestled in the small town of Hungry Horse, just outside Glacier National Park, Great Bear Cafe is known for their elm and bison burgers served up in a casual environment. We stopped by here for a burger lunch. I ordered their build your own elk burger with sauteed onions and mushrooms and cheese with their broccoli salad as my side. The burger was juicy and flavorful and the broccoli salad was crisp and fresh. Everything tasted cozy and home made. The dining room is simple but comfortable. They have a few outdoor tables as well. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. We were visiting for 4 full days... we came here 4 times. Everything was phenomenal, but the real star of the show was the breakfast sandwiches. The biscuits are unmatched, bacon was thick and tasty, egg cooked to perfection. Not being dramatic, it's the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had!! Just what we needed after a good hike. It was filling, hot, fresh, and tasty. Service is a bit slow even though there wasn't a lot of customers. I believe it's only one cook. So it does take time. We almost missed it! When we drove up no one was there and the outside was not all that great. We looked across the street and saw a packed out cafe. So, we decided to go in. Wow is an understatement. Over the next 7 days we went back 3 times. Food was outstanding. Breakfast menu may seem small but the food is big! From home made burritos to homemade gravy. We were on our way to Washington from Michigan and the Great Bear Cafe was recommended by folks at the Moose Creek RV resort, where we stayed for a couple of days. Considering this is a very small establishment, the service was really great our server was extremely pleasant and engaging. Both my wife and I had the buffalo burger which was excellent.
