More often than not they are telling me my air cabin filter is totally fine, and will be good for a while before needing replacement. Because they are honest, when they DO tell me I need something, I believe them, and usually purchase the part or service. They have gained my trust. Because of their transparency in upselling, I come here for so much more than just oil changes now. I get my tags renewed and my inspections done here, I get new windshield wipers, headlight restorations, and any timely or overdue maintenance, which they kindly print out a list of manufacturer recommendations, and highlight the ones I'm overdue for. The truck has been well maintained and has received full-synthetic oil changes approximately every 5,000 miles. The upselling started when an employee brought out two separate oil-system/engine-cleaning additives. I was told that my engine had mild sludge buildup, with the supposed evidence being some oil residue on the underside of the oil-fill cap. I found that recommendation questionable on a well-maintained modern engine with only 30,000 miles. More importantly, Ford specifically states in the owner's manual that supplemental engine-oil additives are unnecessary and may lead to engine damage that is not covered by warranty. I declined both products. The technician then returned with my cabin air filter, which I had replaced at my previous oil change, and my K&N engine air filter. He told me both were dirty and recommended replacing them. The K&N recommendation was particularly concerning because it is a washable and reusable air filter. I initially thought he might have misspoken, so I specifically asked whether he was recommending that I replace the K&N filter. He said yes. I told him I would clean and service it myself when necessary and declined both replacements. The final issue came after I paid and returned to my truck. The service sticker they placed in the windshield listed my next service at only 3,000 additional miles, despite having just performed a full-synthetic oil change. Ford equips this truck with an Intelligent Oil Life Monitor that determines oil-change intervals based on actual operating conditions. Even the conservative 5,000-mile interval I have voluntarily been following is substantially longer than the 3,000-mile interval on their sticker. Following their recommendation instead would result in approximately 67% more oil changes over the same mileage, wasting both time and money. Any one of these things by itself might be reasonable . Taken together they left me with the impression that this location's service process is driven more by maximizing sales than by the actual maintenance requirements of the vehicle.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!…read more I had taken my previous vehicles to the location in Utah county, and was happy with the service so after moving to SLC when my truck needed work I went to the Salt Lake location. I parked my manual transmission truck in their parking lot, and with an old E-brake, left the car in gear to prevent it from rolling. Upon walking outside a tech followed me out and got in the truck to check mileage. She started the car without checking it was in gear, and floored it directly into the wall of their shop. Instead of stopping, she kept her foot on the gas to the point that she did a burn out with the rear tires. This caused damage to the front bumper of my truck. The manager of the shop called me after the incident to discuss resolution. He offered to either pay for a new bumper, or discount the service by the cost of a bumper. The requested service came out to $3200 before the damage to the bumper. No offer of discounted labor beyond the cost of the bumper. They called a few days later saying they had identified a faulty wheel bearing and quoted over $1,100 to replace. When I told them I'd like to get another quote from a competitor, then the manager offered to do discounted labor on the wheel bearing alone. (Mind you they already were working on an upper control arm on the same side). When again I requested to wait and get another quote he then offered free labor on the wheel bearing alone. Ready to put it to bed I agreed. When I went to retrieve my truck today it was covered in a dried on tacky substance that was not there on drop off. When I asked what it was one of the techs let me know that they had noticed a few weeks ago they had a leaky water heater, and they had decided to leave the truck parked directly under it for days on end. Not a new issue, but a known issue and that I was the lucky customer who got their vehicle parked directly below. Unfortunately this was brought to my attention after I just forked over $4,000. In my experience here's what you can expect from Steve's Automotive Specialists on 2300 E. They will let front desk workers with no understanding of vehicles drive and operate your car in a radically unsafe manner, even post massive mistake they will look to up-charge you at every opportunity, and to top it all off they will treat your property like garbage. This shop charges top tier prices, and gives a horrific customer experience. What a joke! How a shop like this stays open conducting their business this way is shocking. I'd pay double to go to someone else next time.
