A couple of weeks ago I needed windshield wiper blades replaced. I had forgotten the parts store by the same name (Pep Boys) where I used to buy wiper blades next door had closed, so I bought the blades at another store, where no one could get them installed. Due to a bad shoulder I have difficulty doing this task on my own. I went back to Pep Boys and since they had the same brand of blades on the side of the repair shop, they were willing to install them even though they weren't the actual parts store from years ago nor the place where I bought the new ones. Disappointing customer service at Sandy, UT store. I had a 9a appointment to have rear brake pads replaced and brake fluid flushed. I was told it would take 60-90 minutes when I made the appointment. My car sat in the lot for 2-hours before they began my job and then it took an additional 3-hrs to perform the service. I made an online appointment to get my oil changed at 10:30. When I arrived on time I was told that I was scheduled at 11:00 (not 10:30). I was told that it should be done by 1pm. 2.5 hours seems like a really long time to wait for an oil change and tire rotation, but I did it anyways. I checked the progress of my car thru a text message link and it said Coen was working on it. I waited 2.5 hours in the waiting room (which doesn't have enough seating). At 1pm I went to check on the status of my car to be told that they hadn't even started working on it yet. That is extremely unprofessional. If a costumer has an appointment, they shouldn't be waiting 2.5 + hours to get the service started. I haven't been to pep boys in years due to the long wait I had two years ago. I see the service hasn't changed at all. Very disappointing. If you're looking to get your tires changed and an alignment don't go here. Friend called in for an appointment, had one made and then get a call back within 10 minutes to reschedule. Get there for the appointment the next day (after they confirmed the appointment that morning) and are told they want to reschedule again because they have walks in being worked on. Drove over an hour to get to them at this point. They say it'll be a few hours but they'll get it done. I come back three hours later to see the truck on the lift and the old tires still on. They say it'll be another hour (they're closed by now already) so we have them take it down and leave. Guy says he's been trying to work on it while we've been watching him just sit and talk to his buddies in the garage and not touch a single car. Have fun wasting a whole day if you decide to have them work on your car. What's the point of an appointment if walk ins have priority anyways? read more

We were relocating from the Bay Area to Colorado, and it should have been a sign that it would be a rough trip when the morning we were set to leave Silicon Valley, my car wouldn't start. AAA came and jumped the battery, cut to, my car had to be jumped 2 more times that trip across state lines. Even though the battery was new (replaced in November 2022), AAA refused to replace per a new update to their warranty policy. Had a challenging undertaking to find an open mechanic on a Sunday in Salt Lake City, and initially went to the previous shop this Pep Boys had relocated from earlier that week. Followed the sign on the door to this location, and they were accommodating, even with many appointments to fill. They were able to replace my car battery and change the oil within 2 1/2 hours, and we were well on our way to our new home. Called ahead around 12:30pm today to set an appointment for 4pm, that went fine. I brought my truck in at 4pm for a diagnosis, assuming it could use a tune up. They took my keys at 4pm and I sat at their location for two hours, my truck did not budge an inch from the parking spot I parked it in. They never pulled it in, never even touched it. I left and came back another hour later (5min before they close) truck was still sitting there..I'm a paying customer, why set an appointment for me if the location is to overwhelmed with what they're currently working on? Or short staffed? I would not go to this location, just a huge waste of time. No communication was made that they were behind schedule or anything.PLEASE find somewhere else!! read more

My experience at this location was far below par. It started over the phone. I simply was making sure their website was correct that they had the tires that I wanted. They did not, so they called their west valley location to see if they could pick them up. I was on hold for 30 min. They told me that they would go pick them up for me and that I can come in and get paperwork done in the mean time. When I showed up two guys were laughing about how they did something wrong in someone's vehicle and gave it back to them. Red flag. Supposedly, according to their website, pep boys does a price match guarantee. When I told them I had a price match he said pep boys does not price match. I then showed him their online guarantee and he said no. Another red flag. I did need tires pretty instantly so I was deciding whether to stay or go. I sat in there for 45min before he told me they don't have the tires in store and still need to pick them up. And that their online price does not reflect in store pricing. It seems like the counter guys need some assistance and training, If they want to keep those lights on. read more

Changed out my winter tires for summer tires here. They not only took a bizarrely long time, but they ripped the TPMS out of my winter tires and PAINTED their position (RR rear right, FR front right, etc.) on the outside faces of the tires in bright silver paint (???) so now in the winter, after I put them back on, I'm driving around with RR, FR, FL, RL flashing at everyone I'm passing. All the while, my tire pressure light is on on my dash because my TPMS is gone. Pretty moronic. Go elsewhere. read more

I had an appointment for 10am to get my tires changed. I showed up on time and sat for 2 and half hours looked out and my truck was still out there. I walked up to the manager and asked what time they were planning on getting started on my truck and I was informed that it would be at least 40 mins for my truck to be pulled back so I asked for my keys and went and got lunch and came back in about 45 mins. I showed back up gave em my keys and they informed me about an hour which I was cool with. They got my truck in within 15 minutes of me getting back so everything seemed right. 3:30pm rolled around and hadn't heard anything so I went up to the front asking for an update. They rolled me that because my tires were big it was taking longer but they hoped to ba done in 45 mins. I say okay and continue waiting. 5pm rolls around and I'm starting to get irritated. So I walk around back to physically see the status of my truck. The truck is on the lift with 3 of the four original tires off and nobody working on it. Meanwhile I see a kid smoking and sitting on his phone. I walk by and see his name is "Dom" who is supposed to be working on my truck. When I notice I ask when the truck will be done. He shrugs and says "idk the wheels are getting balanced" and I ask "who's supposed to be balancing them?" And he said "idk we've got guys in there that can balance them" so I said "You're Dom right?" He says "yes" so I say "you're the guy that's assigned to my truck, you're supposed to be working on it" so he says "idk man I'm trying to taking my F**** lunch" so I said "all I'm saying is it doesn't take 5 hours to switch out some tires" he then threw a little tantrum and walked in the garage kicking things and throwing things. It was crazy. I then thought crap I don't want this guy working on my truck so I went to the front and informed them that I pissed off their guy and they told me he's been doing this all day and that "he is on his way out". So at this point I'm done and let them know all I care is that my truck is done right and that you make sure he does a good job. They inform me that he will and I leave and tell them to leave the key in the gas flap and I'll pick it up after hours. Well I show up after hours and one of my tires is completely flat. I had a portable pump so I pumped it up and the didn't seal one of the inner valves properly so I put my keys back in the Dropbox with a note about the situation. I call first thing in the morning when they open and they go "oh yeah we'll take a look first thing" I hear back from them at 12 that my truck is ready. I walk in grab my keys and tell myself I'll never be back. Get in my truck and all four tires aren't to PSI. So instead of going back in I drove to the gas station across the street to pump them up the rest of the way. Driving the truck home after pumping it up realize I have something leaking now which is great. Who knows if it was from these guys or something else but I would not recommend these guys. Mostly had to deal with Steve, another manager with some safety prescription glasses, and Dom. Steve and the other manager weren't terrible but weren't good either. read more

You know, this is a spot that I always forget is there, until I actually need something and pull up the Yelp app and it reminds me that there are car parts at this location. It seems that in the last decade, there has been a rise of small car part shops and this larger Pep Boys seems almost unmanageable, and certainly not convenient. Will they be able to survive? Lately, I've been looking around and it seems that Pep Boys has stepped up their online game. If you're looking for tires, for example, their website is actually pretty easy to use, and you can enter in your vehicle info and find customized search results. They seem to sell at a decent price, and some of the deals are downright amazing with over 50% savings, depending on what specials they have going on at the time. I'm not a car guy, so I may be missing the point entirely of a big ol' auto parts store like this, and I've not used them for service, so I admit this point of view is limited in its expertise. But it's my experience that when you're looking for simple parts that the average auto-owner wants to replace or fix on their own, there are any number of places with solutions and this has become a second or third choice for me, partially on location, and partially based on the success (or not) I've had in having answers to my questions and ease of finding the right part. Maybe heading online will be more helpful--I'm hopeful and early signs point to yes. read more

I would stay away from this location at all costs!! I wish we had talked to locals first. The SM is extremely shady and his staff (specifically Miguel) is horribly rude to customers. They will lie and cheat their way through and completely disregard customers. After making reports to their corporate office, I have received the denied claim back and see the severity of their false statements and gross lies even though I have recorded proof of my statements and facts. I set up an appointment for my girlfriend to have her AC fixed at 10:30am. She was there for 2 and a half hours before she looked out into the parking lot and saw that they haven't even started. Apparently they somehow grabbed the wrong car and was diagnosing that for the past 2 hours. Not to mention they instantly should've started asking questions when the AC worked considering that's the first step in an AC diagnosis, so who knows what they were doing. They then took her car in around 1:20 and kept telling her that their ETA was 30 minutes. She was there until close and had to cancel plans for her family and for the rest of the day. then she finally gets home and I realize that they never even rotated her tires, the 1 out of 2 tasks we paid over a grand for. Unless you like wasting your day in a waiting room while a group of incompetent workers work on your car, I would not recommend this place. read more

Well, I dropped my car off on Thursday, originally quoted around $900. Saying it would be done that night to be picked up that morning following. They proceeded to drop the ball on getting it done which was fine the first time. The next call I get was a quote for extra services and even a pitch on needing new tires. I got them replaced less then 6 months ago but they are "unsafe for the road" and "should be replaced immediately". The quote I got next was around $2,300. I wanted to take my car and service somewhere else for a better price. But nope they still have my car now 3 days later and 10 day wait for service saying I can't take my own car. Worst service ever. Firstly, every time I'm call I'm put on hold for no less than 15 mins. Secondly I brought my car in because my Ac wasn't working on 4 but was working just fine from 1-3. The manager was very rude and unwilling to offer any helpful solutions. First off, calling their main number it states they are open until 8pm. But lo and behold when I get there at 6 pm they were locking the doors. Also, the hours listed on the door stated they were open until 8 with no mention of new hours due to COVID or remodeling. Then when I asked the manager what my options were he started getting combative with me and told me I had to leave then and had to have proof of purchase even though the manufacture date was right on the battery. Then when I went back the next day they couldn't locate the purchase history in their system (which I hadn't had to provide the last 2 times the battery died on me) and basically I was out of luck with them and had to call the manufacturer. Stopped by this Pep Boys for an oil change because my last experience here was so great. The mechanics at Pep Boys were so helpful in inspecting my car at no additional cost and found that I was due for brake fluid replacement. I loved how thorough they were in explaining the importance of the items that needed replacement and how honest they were in giving me realistic timeframes in which I needed to replace them. I find that a lot of mechanics will find something wrong with your car and tell you all of the repairs need to be completed immediately, preferably today but here, you can tell they care more about your experience than making a point to ring up a huge bill. I don't know too much about cars so it was comforting for the rep to have taken the time to explain the significance of each repair so that I can make a final decision with confidence. In the couple times I've been here, I've also noticed they always seem to have a promotion going on that helps reduce the bill. For the month of April, they are running a 20% off promotion to help people in this hard time to get routine maintenance done. read more

I've just had my front brake pads and rotors changed here after shopping around at 2 other places. Pros: 1. Very friendly management and customer service. They seemed genuine and I really enjoyed my experience there. 2. They do price matching---so even if their quote is high you can obtain a quote and they will match it, plus -5% off of that quote. Cons: 1. would like to see on the receipt the label of the brand of brake pads and rotors they used or have the label of the parts used attached to the receipt--it's unclear on the receipt the brand they used. 2. brought the quote in to get a quote for ceramics pads but they forgot that and were going to match the price for semi-metallic (a lower level) instead. If you bring in a quote for a specific item, make sure to remind them of what it is when they call you to okay the procedure. Other shops have different labeling systems on quotes so it might be easy for Pep Boys to overlook some details. 3. Price matching is with a rebate so you have to fill out one...not straightforward. Tip: 1. Shop around for the best price and bring the quote for price matching and 5% off. Make sure they quote you on the correct part! read more

2 years ago I had my back brakes replaced. They said I needed pads and rotors. Over $900 and they were done. Last year I did the front brakes. Same thing with new pads and rotors. Now I need new pads and rotors on the back again. This time I went to Jiffy Lube and they are charging me $200 for pads and rotors. I think Pep Boys is overcharging!!!!! Another issue is my brakes from Pep Boys have been really noisy since day 1. They squeak and make some awful noises. The brakes from Jiffy Lube are super quiet. read more

It took longer than I expected to get my vehicle fixed. My repair was a grueling heater core replacement. You have to remove the front seats and the entire dash. Unfortunately the shop lost their phone lines one day, and had an unfortunate accident on another. All things out of their control. I was patient with them and they were extremely good to me. Some times things happen. They had to roll with the punches and deal with a LOT of customers while working long hours. I appreciated being treated with respect and also the very detailed updates. Initially, they were convenient and friendly being close to my house. The first time I figured they'd fix a leak I brought it in for, they were also putting the engine back together correctly. They mentioned replacing some hoses and things like that. So I took it home, and there was still a leak. I took it back, mentioned that power steering hoses had been mentioned to me by another mechanic (not just me guessing). I got an estimate on the most expensive of those hoses at about $300. He instead replaced an $800 power steering box, which I was fine with assuming it would fix the leak. I took it home, and again, I find this leak. So I took it back a third time. I had a very specific conversation with them about it being the third time, and at the end of the day, when I bring it in for a leak, I expect them to fix the leak. I also let them know it would be going on a longer trip and then it would be shipped. So it needed to be ready to be shipped meaning FIX ALL LEAKS. Their mechanic decided he didn't want to do the work. So he claimed he felt bad about getting in there and basically doing the work because of how much it would cost. He spent a full day doing this when I told them several times to just do the work and fix the leak. Apparently, he didn't feel all that bad when I mentioned a $300 hose and he replaced an $800 box instead. When they finally got to fixing it, he had to replace the hoses I originally mentioned that apparently he didn't feel like fixing before. There was a lot of back and forth, it took longer than planned, and I was very specific again that it was being shipped. So it needed to be leak free. I also again specified the longer drive. So any serious problems should be addressed. They had previously mentioned finding certain things they didn't fix. So it was clear they were already in there before and could've done the work while they were already in the area. I go to Vegas to find that not only did it still have a leak, but it was leaking motor oil. In other words, it could've broken down during the 5 hour trip there because after the third time of returning and going back and forth to the point that they had to write it off, he apparently didn't feel bad enough about the cost or wasting my time to do the job the right way when they weren't even charging me. If they have a mechanic who doesn't want to do his job, they need to find another mechanic. Paying them to do the labor more than once in the first place because he didn't feel like mentioning a serious oil leak or fixing it like I'd asked is bad enough. Pretending his concern is about how much I'm spending and then still not doing the work when it's specifically because of his refusal to just get to work that they have to write off the costs is worse. If you're prioritizing leaks, any leak that would require you to replace the entire engine if it gets too low should obviously be fixed first. If he did this to me, I can guarantee he's doing this to other customers. Nobody wants to pay or spend the time waiting because they had to bring their car back again to get into the same areas to do jobs he didn't bother to do or mention. If he can't do his job, it's time to find someone else to replace him. read more

I had an appointment scheduled to get an alignment, I dropped my car off at the time of the appointment, two hours later received a phone call to tell me that they could not do my alignment because they did not have the equipment necessary, when I got there I waited another 30 minutes for them to get my car off the alignment rack (yes, they had an alignment rack and said that they didn't have the equipment necessary to give my car an alignment). Fast forward two months later, I bought a set of four tires on Facebook marketplace and I installed two of them on the back previously at a different shop that didn't have a balance machine , So the only service I was requesting from pep boys was mounting the front ones and balancing all four. The manager continued to explain to me that my car was all wheel drive, therefore it needed all four tires to be the exact same. I drove my car to pep boys with miss matched tires to get the front one's swapped out to the correct pair to complete the set. The manager was not even listening to me at all, he just kept repeating the fact that he was unable to do it because my car was all wheel drive.
