I've been going to Steve's regularly now for oil changes and repairs. Jut really good service. I like how they send you a text with what they found and what needs immediate attention and on down the scale for urgency instead of a mechanic or rep coming out to talk to you to pressure you into making the repairs. I also like how they do not charge you for diagnostics. When other shops charge you $140-$160 to check out your car to see what the problem is, they charge zero! Good friendly guys up at the front desk, I've been working with Sheldon. This place always has a ton of cars in their lot as I'm sure a lot of people have caught on to their good service and bring it here. That's the kind of shop you want to have. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. This auto shop is the auto shop everyone warns you about...the reason everyone's apprehensive about having to take their car to a mechanic. They'll rip off with a smile on their face, like they're doing you and your car a big favor. TL;DR Steve's business revolves around attracting customers with inexpensive oil changes, then upselling products/services that not even your car's dealership recommends. Pay $30 more to have your oil changed literally anywhere else. About month ago, I wrote a review on Google (see last paragraph below) that said Steve's is good for an oil change, but to be warned that they'll try to upsell things you don't need. Fast forward to today, I arrived early for my scheduled oil change and the employee at the desk looked up my appointment, and then went to the office that's behind one-way glass like it's a police station. The one-way glass is a perfect metaphor to the shadiness of the shop. Trevor, presumably a manager, came out to speak to me and gave a schpiel about ensuring their customers safety and satisfaction is their top priority. I waited for him to finish. When he did, I asked what was happening, were they refusing to service my car? Yes, that's exactly what Trevor was doing except it wasn't outright refusal but extortion. He said they wouldn't change my car's oil unless I removed my review. Trevor went on another schpiel about how car dealerships don't recommended changing oil as often as Steve's does because Steve's cares more about properly maintaining the car for safety. You're reading this correctly (if you've made it this far), the mechanics at Steve's know your car better than the mechanics at your car's dealership, and Steve's recommends more products and services than even your car's dealership, and dealerships, as everyone knows, are notorious for upselling. Insane that Steve's attempts to outsell the kings of upselling. Best part was Trevor was addressing my review at the time, but my review made no mention of Steve's recommending an oil change too often (see the review below), which is telling because it means Steve's recommends more frequent oil changes than your car's manufacturer recommends. I'm insulted for two reasons. First, that Trevor thinks he can use the same snake-oil salesman talking points he would use on a grandmother. Second, for wasting my time. Original review: Recommend for an oil change but nothing else. Know that they attract customers with inexpensive oil changes in order to upsell just about everything. Multiple times they've recommended service my car didn't need. Most recent example was when I needed new brake pads, they insisted I needed new rotors as well because "you should always change them together" and "if you don't the brakes will squeak." I called a dealership to fact-check and they said that's not a thing, you're fine to replace just the pads without rotors. Sure enough, it's been months and brakes are just fine, no squeaks. read more

Excellent work at a fair price! Solved a problem that the dealership couldn't figure out...

I broke down on the freeway in my truck. I had it towed to my uncles and put new coil pack, starter, battery, crank shaft sensor, idler pulley and wire set. Still wouldn't start. So I towed it here to have them figure it out. Taden said the starter I put in was bad (was a remanufactured). So I went to tow it home and they had it blocked in. So I changed it in their parking lot with a new instead of remanufactured. The next day they called saying that starter was bad as well. I asked if it could be something in the flywheel killing the starters and Taden said no that they needed to put their starter in that was 450$. So I allowed them to put it in. They put it in than said they needed to pull my transmission to continue repairing it. I told them to pull their part and stop touching it. They obviously don't know what they are doing. I tried to give my advice of what I've already worked on and they just assumed my parts were defective. No testing or observing what I recommended the issue could be. Trevor the manager was unwilling to work with me and wanted me to pay 450$ for the part that didn't fix any issues and the labor that I've already done 3 times under their recommendation. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau and gave a 1 star review because I feel they truly earned it.. that's what all their reviews say anyways.. I wish I would have checked reviews first. The next day Trevor called back and changed his attitude.. all the sudden was willing to take the part out and give me my truck back.. said it would take the weekend but if I took my 1 star review down and cancel my complaint with the better business bureau they wouldn't charge me for the work that took them 30 minutes to do. So I did as they asked and came in Monday. They still didn't give me my truck because they didn't have confirmation that my complaint was removed which I had proof it was. I came back the next day and they drained my battery so it would be dead when I came to get it. Had my receipts for the parts I've put in it scattered on the dash like they were going through the parts I've put on it. Just jerked me around in every way possible. I'd never bring any vehicle here ever in my life again. Worst experience I've ever had at a mechanic shop.. I've never towed a vehicle to AND from a shop.. they wasted so much time focusing on things that weren't the issue. read more

According to the reviews here seems overall customers have had good experiences. I had a very poor interaction with the employees about two months ago. So bad that I chose to go elsewhere to have new breaks completed, as they told me I needed. I went to another shop and they told me I would not need new breaks for another year. While I am certain that that customer service I received was incredibly poor, I am uncertain if the diagnosis of new breaks was a mistake or intentional (to make more money). Given the quality of the interaction it is hard to not assume it was intentional. Anyways, I hope my experience was atypical. None the less, I will not be returning. read more

They are great! I used them for the first time in November last year. I called around to several places and got quotes for a broken window regulator and no one could do it soon and all quoted nearly double what Steve's Automotive quoted. They also finished it same day. I had a new issue over the weekend and took my car in. I took an Uber to work (which you shouldn't do because they offer rides!) and before I even got to work they had fixed it! I had to get my car towed to the nearest mechanic since I'm new in town after my radiator blew. After fixing the radiator they said I needed my head gaskets replaced. The quote for the job was 7,000$!!!! I decided to see what other shops would quote me on the same job. Ended up going to Brody's Car Care since they quote me 3,000$ for the same EXACT work with the same 1 year warranty. I'm sure Steve's does great work but it's wayyyyy over priced and would suggest shopping around other shops before you pay their outrageous prices. It was my first time using these guys. Awesome service!! They replied to me on Yelp in less than 1 hour when I requested a quote. They did a free diagnostic test to see why my car was leaking antifreeze. They had it fixed the same day!! The guys were friendly and honest. While they were under the hood they even checked other parts of my car to make things were in order. I appreciate them being so thorough!! They even sent me a text with a link to the inspection they did on my car, so I could view a virtual inspection of the work they were doing. That's what I'm talking about. Thanks again!! read more

$184 TO DIAGNOSE YOUR CAR!! DO NOT TRUST THEM. Do your research before you go here. Where to begin. I called a couple days ago to make an appt since i dont have much time to waste going to mechanics. My appt was set for friday at 8. So i showed up at 8 and they took my car right in. Then joe came out and said we have no idea what the problem is so we will have our shuttle driver take you home and give you a call in 3 hours when we find the problem. 4 1/2 hours later i call to check the status and joe tells me his mechanic was gone and just got back and will now take a look at it. WHAT!! Isnt the point of making an appt so that there is someone there to look at it? So with his mechanic back he said give him an hour. 2 hours later joe calls me back and tells me it needs $600 Moog sway bar links. And $300 of labor So what do i do? I go on Moogs website and find that i can buy the exact same parts directly from Moog for $210. What a freaking markup. Holy crap So i tell joe i will talk with my wife and see what she wants to do. Joe hands me the quotes for work that needs to be done and i start to walk out when the cashier says your total today is $184. What!!!! $184 dollars to hold my car all day and then tell me you think you found the problem and its going to be $900 when i can go to a trustworthy shop and get the exact same thing done for $300. Unbelievable!! Such a ripoff. DIAGNOSE YOUR CAR FOR $184!!!!!! Unbelievable!! If i wanted to wast $1084 i would have just gone to the Infiniti dealer. Thanks you money hungry jerks! read more

They have great customer service, and you don't leave feeling like they have spoken down to you. They have pretty reasonable prices, and can fix just about anything! Horrible experience. Steve will over charge, provide false information and take you for a ride if you aren't the least bit mechanically inclined. Google search your issue rather than bringing it to Steve. Completely unprofessional and inconsistent. I have nothing, but great things to say about these guys. I was smelling gasoline in my engine area and the smell started leaking into my cabin area. I called Steve's automotive and right away the person who picked up was very courteous and helpful. He told me to drop off my car and they will take a look at it. I dropped it off and a couple hours later they called and said it was ready, they said one of the gas line hoses was loose, so they just tightened it and I was on my way. Now you may think..."okay" what's so great about that. Well, I spent over $160 at 2 different dealerships that I shall not name, that basically "diagnosed" my car and took my money and said they couldn't find any issues. It was sooo refreshing to have a repair shop that is very transparent in texting me/emailing me the actual codes, updates on what they've found. I felt like I was treated very fairly and I will most definitely be using this shop in the future. Mike made sure that I understood the problem and took extra time and went the extra mile in printing out Recall information, so that I would be armed as I took my car back to the Infiniti Dealership. I have been here many times over the past few years for various reasons. Great team of people. Always seemed genuine to me. Front desk guys are polite - both over the phone and onsite. Price seems to be reasonable (I have always shopped around to compare quotes). I have experience with many different car repair shops.They keep the place pretty clean. My experience has been pretty decent all the time. No complaints so far. I probably will continue to visit them in future. It was very appealing and professional until I saw the invoice with not much improvement on the vehicle lol. I am still trying to comprehend why they charged $$$ and ended up having the same problem. Whereas, the next day I went to a different shop in downtown and this place quotes less than what I paid to Steve's with 90 days warranty. I had a bad tire wearing problem. I replaced the shocks and tires and took my truck in for an alignment (turns out was entirely due to worn out shock). The Mechanic I spoke with joked about why I felt like a needed an alignment then mentioned that they hardly changed anything then gave me the full bill. Oh well, I asked for an alignment so I can pay for an alignment. Then there is the "Recommendations". 1. Right tail light is out - I went straight to Auto Zone borrowed a tool and pulled the light assembly off. All the bulbs looked fine. I then checked them (running, brakes, reverse)and none of the bulbs were burned out. hmmm.... 2. Transmission fluid is dark - OK 3. Oil change past due sticker - I change my own oil and just left the sticker. Not sure if they actually checked the oil or they would have seen synthetic oil with less than 500 miles on it. Weird that they would check transmission fluid and not oil. 4. Drive Line Service - This one is probably mileage related. I say this because I just had a major drive line service and replaced all the U-joints along the entire drive line about 2 months ago. Not sure I needed another service. 5. Carbon Service - I'd guess this is also mileage related. A vehicle with 100,000 miles they would probably recommend this to all of them. My search to find a new mechanic continues. read more

I took my range rover in for a diagnosis. They told me I had some repairs that needed to be fixed. I followed up with the Range Rover dealer in SLC and was told nothing was wrong with my car! This repair place tried to scam nearly 2k worth of repairs from me when nothing needed to be fixed. Be careful, get second opinions!!! read more

My car started acting up very randomly right before I was to go on a trip (Murphy's Law). We called Steve's and they got me in right away and were able to completely fix my car in a few hours. They even gave my daughter and I a free shuttle ride home while they were working on my car and said they would pick us up again once it was done if we needed it. The driver was so kind, especially once we pulled into my driveway at my house and I realized that my house key was left on my car key ring that was back at the shop! His response was "it's no problem will go and get it". So we got not one but two rides home. Everyone at the shop was very professional and the most important thing is that my car is working great and I've have no problems with it since they fixed it! They even called me a few days later to make sure I was happy and that the car was still working properly. read more

I take all my cars here for their preferred maintenence program, it is an amazing deal. They do a great assessment and have caught lots of problems before the car broke down. They use bg products which make oil changes last longer and keep every part of the car in like new condition. Fantastic service, I brought my Honda Pilot in because it was flashing just about every check engine light possible. It was also not driving smoothly. Steve's ran a diagnostics and did some investigation. They found it was caused by dirt/leaves/ and buildup that made its way into the engine through the air filter. They cleaned it up and replaced some tail lights at a low cost. They only charged me for the labor. They had my ____ in a sling yet didn't take advantage of a desperate customer. Very pleased with the high quality of service and honesty from this business. Customer service has been very good as well. read more

I was recently visiting relatives in Utah when my water pump went out on my 09 toyota sienna. We had to leave in two days to return home. I have had a great decade + long relationship with steves. since the management has changed at thier holladay location i cannot trust them anymore. twice now they have come up with a laundry list of things that are in dire need of attention. once i get the vehicle home and inspect it myself i have found that they have lied to me in order to get more money on repairs that are not yet relevant . One example, they have twice told me that me brake pads and rotors are totally shot. After returning home and pulling the calipers i find that 1/4" of pad is left before the indicator strip. They have gone from trusted to squindlers. read more

Always get a second opinion because if you contest them they will talk and talk and try to wear you down until you are so frustrated that you never want to hear another excuse. read more
