1-Star Review - AAA APPROVED BUTCHERS! They Botched a SIMPLE Brake Job on My 2016 Lexus RC 200t and Almost Killed My Entire Family. I am writing this with my hands still shaking in pure rage and terror. This so-called "AAA Approved" mechanic shop took my 2016 Lexus RC 200t in for a SIMPLE brake job -- just new pads and rotors, nothing exotic -- and handed it back to me in a condition that should have ended my life, my girlfriend's life, and our two little kids' lives this weekend. If you value your family, RUN. This place should be shut down immediately. I dropped the car off Tuesday morning for routine maintenance before our family road trip. They called Friday afternoon, said "brakes are perfect, better than new," charged me $2,500 for brakes and tires and gave me the keys with big smiles. "All set for the weekend!" they bragged. We loaded the kids Friday night and hit the road. Saturday morning on the interstate at 75 mph, the brake pedal went straight to the floor -- ZERO stopping power. The car just kept flying. My girlfriend screamed, the kids were crying in the back, semis were blasting their horns as I swerved like a maniac trying not to get us all killed. We almost became statistics. I barely managed to downshift and coast onto the shoulder while praying we'd survive. They charged full price for a "simple brake job," gave my family a rolling death trap, and sent us out for the entire weekend like everything was fine. If we'd hit traffic, a mountain road, or needed to stop hard even once... my kids would be orphans right now. This wasn't incompetence, this was reckless, dangerous negligence on the most basic service imaginable. I am demanding every penny back, full reimbursement for the emergency repairs, and I will be reporting them to AAA (they need to revoke this butcher shop's approval immediately), the BBB, Lexus corporate, the state attorney general, and anyone else who will listen.DO NOT take your car here. I've driven by this place hundreds if not thousands of times. What a mistake that was. They are incredible and after the first visit, I felt like I was their most important customer. Super honest, very clear on repairs and I'm mad at myself for not going in years ago. Josh is the great and I'll be calling on him for every car repair or pre-purchase inspection for the next decade. Amazingly, They got my AC done on the same day and even let me use a rental car. They have free ice-cold water, coffee, and snacks Some cool cars in the showroom. Easy to locate and close to a lot of places nearby. If you need to go to work, they have a shuttle service to take you Drop your car off and then get a ride to your next spot. In the end, before paying, they review the bill with you and give you a print-off. Highly recommend I will be back again, and I highly suggest you go here for all your car maintenance needs. read more

Took my Prius to get my battery checked since I was having issues. I do love how they check your whole car and give you little summary of what is wrong with pictures. I appreciate their honesty but wish they'd give you more options. So far we have no complaints. In the end I wish I would have taken it to Toyota first. Their diagnostic charge is a little high compared to other places but they are thorough. I believe i payed 135 that is with AAA discount. I ended up taking my Toyota Prius to Toyota and got little more help. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! These guys are crooks and liars! I brought my Lexus in with a CAT code P0420 and Evap small leak and sensor codes. They started out with saying that it was a bad gas cap and wanted to charge me $157 for their diagnostic and $34 for a gas cap. Then Andrew called me and said that didn't fix the issue and that they did another smoke test and that they needed to replace the Fuel Vapor Pressure Control Valve which is very simple to fix and wanted to charge $357 at a mark up of 150% for the part alone. Then the next day Andrew called me back again and said that the part didn't fit the bolt pattern on my vehicle??? So now they have to replace a different part -the EVAP Pressure Pump and charged me $890. Then After driving my car a few times all of the warning and check engine light came back on so I brought my car to a different mechanic and they did a diagnostic and the code P0420 CAT was still there and that code is 100% accurate that the Catalytic Converter was bad and needed to be replaced and that was a major repair. I told them that McNeils charged me $890 and that I did not have an invoice and that I did ask for one and they said that they would email me the invoice which I never received. I called MCNEILS and spoke to Andrew and I asked why he didn't tell me that I was going to have to replace my cat converter and he said that they will only warrant the part that they replaced and that if it was something other than that it was on me not them. I told him bottom line I paid them to accurately diagnose and fix my car! My husband and I went to McNeils and talked to Jake to try and get our hard earned money back and he said that he would give $430 back if we don't leave a negative review. I refused because it's only right that I warn other people so they don't have to go through this. Jake had the audacity to ask me that if they had told us up front that the Catalytic Converter also had to be replaced for $1800 would I have been happy and I said yes because my car would have been fixed and we wouldn't have to deal with all of the stress and anguish that they have caused us by not being honest and upfront when they knew damn well that they never fixed the major problem and that the warning lights would come back on and that the CAT Code P0420 was not cleared because it was not fixed. What is worse is that when we were looking under the hood of the car trying to figure out why the bad solenoid was never replaced our 5 year old baby dog snuck in the hot car and died within minutes in this heat as we were preoccupied with the trouble that they have caused. My family is devastated and we will never get our baby Rocko back which is priceless. read more

Terrible customer service- will not take ANY of my vehicles to McNeil's. Had a scheduled appointment, they moved it from Friday to Monday. I called Monday to confirm and ask if it was possible to drop off early or even possibly get the vehicle in earlier? Tyler, on the phone, stated "we could get it in tomorrow". Wait- tomorrow certainly isn't earlier" (common sense), so it sounds like I will stick with my already modified Noon scheduled appointment. Well- "if you're not going to reschedule (that would be the second time I need to arrange for time off work), then I can't guarantee we will have the car done today". O.K., so this is my daily driver, I have already rescheduled once; you can take my car in today, but not have it done today? We are talking about a simple 4 tire install here... no mechanics, no "found something else"... just 4 tires! Wow. I don't think they can even get scheduling (or understand what scheduling really is) right... or customer kindness... so how do I think they are going to do with my car? NOT GOOD. Rude on the phone, over-talking the customer, had to be "right", terrible customer service. Check the reviews- there are a LOT of negative ones regarding service, and apparently mine is yet another on top. They are not changing- this is a pattern! My business went, and will remain elsewhere. This was going to be my first attempt with McNeils, and it couldn't even happen- I have 5 other vehicles. These guys are awesome. They are not only kind but trust worthy. I originally went to Steve's Automotive at 9245 S 700 E for an oil change. They claimed that I needed a variety of extensive work done in addition to the oil change, including new brakes. I experienced very poor customer service at Steve's and chose to go elsewhere for new brakes. Mcneil's found that I did not need new breaks for at least another year!!! I am currently a full time student, and I appreciate their honesty. I had a few other things completed (new battery, etc.) that I know did need to be done and am happy with the work. This place gets er dun. Anything you need they'll help you with. I came in there with an air conditioning problem and I also got a full service, emissions, and registration done. All for a very reasonable price. They were very personal and thorough in helping me with my problem. They fixed some things they believed were the issue and said if I run into any more issues, bring it back and they'll investigate deeper. Very chill and helpful. They also are very honest, transparent, and won't try to up-sell. They send you a txt with a link that gives full detail and pictures of how your car looked with other metrics as well. Saves them a lot of time and enables the customer to see exactly what they looked at. Very cool. Great waiting area too with places near by if you really want some food. They tried to tell me that my oil was really dirty and needed an expensive system flush based on an old oil change sticker, in reality I had just had my oil changed. They don't seem honest. Cautionary Tale. McNeil's does towing for AAA. My Ford F-150 broke down. Called AAA and they sent McNeil. Wanted my truck towed to the Ford dealer, but the McNeil driver convinced us to haul our truck to their repair shop in Sandy. Long story short, McNeil estimated a cost that eventually was over $2,000 more than what the Ford Dealer charges. Had our truck towed from McNeil's to the Ford Dealer. Repair completed. Paid $2,000+ less and my truck now works great. Not happy about the extra time it took to have my truck re-towed and about getting such a high estimate from them. Just thought I'd pass along this story to help others avoid a similar situation. read more

Requested service through AAA due to dead of battery. The lady come here brings a small jumper starter which is not able to jump start the my Van. And she didn't even bring a Allen wrench so we can't open the cover to change battery either. The service is not complete. The staff start question my attitude first while I am questioning them why they didn't bring basic tools like Allen wrench. Then she just left me and didn't change battery. McNeils is my preferred auto repair shop. I feel like I can really trust them, and that's saying a lot, especially for someone like me who knows NOTHING about cars. I've had multiple repairs performed through them, and I also see them for oil changes. Before coming here I used to drop off my car and come back when I had to get an oil change, and it was a big pain to be without a car for a couple hours, or sometimes a whole day. Here, I just drop by (I've never needed an appointment), and wait, and it's usually done in about a half hour, maybe 45 minutes if they are busy (and they will always tell me if there is a longer wait than usual). They have a small waiting area with a TV and free wifi. I think they might have coffee and/or tea and water, but don't hold me to that because I can't quite remember. If you sign up for their email blasts sometimes you'll get a little discount, so that's nice. I feel like their prices are comparable to anywhere else. Maybe a teeny bit more than some places, but for the convenience and quality I feel like I'm receiving it's worth it. The employees are always very nice, and happy to explain suggestions or repairs to me, without being condescending. read more

This is for the Sandy location. We had the WORST experience. They kept my husband's car for TWO WEEKS. Charged us $1200. We drove it home and within 5 minutes the entire car was smoking. We called them and they were unapologetic and said they could look at it tomorrow and plan on charging us another egregious diagnostic fee. I plan on reporting this place. Bought a vehicle in for a pre-purchase inspection (post purchase). They were less expensive than some of the other shops that quoted me and they were very thorough. They squeezed me in to their busy schedule, which I really appreciate. Erica was upfront, explained everything the inspection covered, and let me know I had thankfully gotten a winner! While driving through Sandy a few weeks ago, I stopped by this auto shop to get an oil change before I continue my cross-country trip. When I walked in, I was not greeted. As other customers walked in, they were enthusiasticly greeted. I remember thinking that was strange. When I finally made it to the service counter, the person working the service counter made me feel unwelcome and was really rude to me as I asked for an oil change. I chose not to get my car serviced here because of how I was treated and went to another business where my patronage was wanted and appreciated. Now I know why I was treated the way I was treated.
