Got introduced to this place by the Yelp Elite program recently, and was thinking of doing my next oil change with them in couple of months. But them suddenly one morning (just a few hours before kids' long awaited doctor's s appointment of course!) my Honda van won't start...it seemed like my battery was down. I called couple of mechanic shops but none of them could squeeze me in for same day check up. But when I called the State Automotive and explained them my situation, Dustin told me that they will do an inspection on my battery ASA I reach them and will change it if needed. Long story short...after going there I found out that the previous mechanic who changed the battery and gave me a "Napa" battery (found the info in the receipt), & then charged me for it and the service in 2017 actually DID NOT replace my original Honda battery from 2013 :/ When I asked, Dustin was super nice and took pictures of the old battery and wrote a description for me so I can show that to the old mechanic and texted me those later that day. I really appreciate the help and (quick) service they provided me that day, and thanks to them I was able to make to the doctor's appointment on time :) Thank you so much for all great service! I went in today for an oil change and road trip inspection. The price was really good! The guys I interacted with were friendly. And I really appreciated their honesty! They told me my car was great and didn't need any additional work. I feel extra good about going on a road trip now! AND they have free hot cocoa. Any place with a free treat means my kids aren't mad about coming with me and waiting! PS- their parking lot is pretty "intimidating" (employee's words) but they were cool with me abandoning my car where there was space and at the end they helped me get my car into position for an easy exit so don't be afraid to ask! Wow, this is a tough category. It's so hard to find a good mechanic because it's a fine balance of needed repairs to cautionary repairs. Most of the time it's never just X, it's, oh we found this additional issue. I can say that happened to me when I brought in my car for a leaky sensor. Got that lovely call saying the housing was also cracked. The joy. But Dustin did a pretty good job of describing what was necessary. I didn't get the "upsell" vibe at all. This was actually my second service there. The first I had an oil change with quality parts. Dustin gave me a brief history of the shop and explained how his people are paid so it's about doing the right thing for the customer and not about selling services. It's hard to find a garage like that anymore. I'd recommend this shop. read more

$590 labor only for an hour and a quarter to replace a CV axle on a 4Runner. (Other shops charge about $280 labor.) The service writer, the rudest I'd ever encountered in my 71 years, then tried to scam me into paying an additional $100 for alignment -- an obvious "up-sell" scam, as alignment has nothing to do with replacing a CV axle. I refused. I also refused the outrageous $590 charge, and he dropped it to $400+something. He wouldn't even write up an invoice for the job. I told him I wanted my original CV axle, and he went out to the trash and came back with some bogus part that was not mine. As I was leaving I saw the mechanic (who did a good job, BTW). I asked him how the replacement went. Easy and quick, he said. All this after going to and trusting State Auto for years. But while there I learned it had been sold. The people I trusted were gone. I reported all this to the new owner, and never heard back. read more

Hard to find someone you can trust especially when you have an older car. These guys know Toyotas like nobody else and most importantly they are honest. They took our 25+ year old 4Runner and did some maintenance. I fully expected them to come back with a long list of recommended repairs. Instead, they came back with an extenstive list of things to watch for in the future. For example they said alternators on these usually go out around this many miles so best to prepare for it. Your suspension probably has another 10-15k miles of life in it. Any just about everything they predicted over the next two years happened. It was like taking my old car to a fortune teller. Their work has been outstanding and prices very competitive. read more

This really is a full-service auto repair shop, and I've had some positive experiences with them so it's time to share. I share reluctantly, because I don't want it to get overrun and harder for me to get in, but in the spirit of Yelp and sending folks to great local businesses, I am compelled to tell you about this place. To catch you up to speed, I used to have a regular shop. After a long, gradual, and obvious downhill slide with the other guys, I had a friend tell me about State Automotive. The story he told (I haven't verified) is that it was an older fella's shop, and he's now turned it over to the kids to run. They're motivated to build the business, and are bringing in some good practices to try to earn loyal customers. Not sure if the narrative is accurate, by my experience fits that story, so I'm going with it. Since my car-speak is not so good---I know there's no such thing as blinker fluid, but am no pro under the hood---I'll leave all the specifics to a minimum here. Basically, I had a check engine light that was keeping my car from passing inspection. The old place jerked me around, I brought it here, and I got a quick, straightforward assessment. They told me what they thought was wrong, about how much it would be to fix it, what could also be a cause later, what that would cost if indeed we needed to pursue more solutions, and gave me a good price (MUCHO less than the old place) and a reasonable timeline. The old place had fixed a part, kind of halfway, and it led to the check engine problems. Dustin at State got on the phone with them, did the detective work about what they had really done, and presented me with options. He went above and beyond, IMO. True to their word, I didn't pay a dime more than they had quoted me, they fixed it exactly when they said they would, and I left happy. A few days later during those miles you have to put on after check engine codes are cleared and a new inspection has to take place, the check engine light came on again. I was able to bring it in, have them look at it, and they fixed a small error in the last repair. I wasn't charged a cent for that--they had it for a while and stood by their work and made it right. A few miles later, no more light, we're running smooth, we've passed inspection, and I'm all current on my registration. I hate car drama. But these guys make it pretty straight forward. Take it in, they'll level with you, tell you what it may cost, give you their best estimates and ideas, and in the end, they are much cheaper than other places. That's all I want, and I'm very glad to have found them. Here's hoping that with their continued success they can stick with the same level of attention and care to customers as they're currently giving. read more

I had an alignment done and the steering wheel was not straight. So the car still went to the right. Later on my transmission and generator went out so they said and I payed 8k to fix. Car sounds like something is stuck while I accelerate and there is a click noise when it's on park at times. Tried to contact them but they never replied. Ended up having to leave town for work so I just feel bamboozled. read more

So here's the update! Tried to give State automotive a chance to make things right! Calling Dustin or anyone from this place Is a joke now! I gave them three stars last time but with what I'm digging up on my Venza now I don't think they did anything for the week they had It! Other then what I said last review things being stolen and the Interior covered In grease and the Venzas looking like It was taken for a joy ride of what they claimed was never done Is out In the open! Brake lines loose bleeder's loose Interior busted up code's that Dustin claimed are the for the ABS/Track control are there!? So I've narrowed most down w/ air in the lines also a lot of loose brake lines which will have to be bleed like Dustin claimed again were done! I will fix this my self as I can't trust anyone anymore! read more

We picked this company at random trying to get a second opinion to an out of state car dealership's estimate to fix our truck a/c during an extended vacation. State Automotive FIXED our a/c problem for ONE TENTH of the dealership's quote. That told us State Auto's honest dealing. I didn't either until I stumbled upon these fine fellows. The shop is clean and so are the employees. I have always been greeted with a smile, treated with respect, and asked to pay less than even I thought fair :). I had a vehicle with a TON of problems, and I was on a budget. I took the car to two mechanics before finding state radiator, both of whom were family "friends" (so I assumed THEY would be honest and helpful), but it wasn't until I came here that I got the answers I needed at a cost that was beyond reasonable. I was immediately greeted and helped out when walking through the door. This may sound simple, but this is a big deal to me, because I have gone to places and waited 5+ minutes before being helped out and begin to wonder if anyone even cares to get my business. I went in for a safety and emissions test. You have to schedule an appointment, which I was very happy to do because a previous place I tried out did not schedule appointments, and I ended up leaving because the wait was about one hour. The test took about 30 minutes. These guys were so kind, answered my questions without rushing me, and it seemed like they genuinely cared to help people out. The one downside is the waiting area is old and not the nicest I've seen, but they make up for it with their kindness. If you need a safety and emissions test, I recommend this place for an easy in and out and pleasant experience. read more

They told me that my newer vehicle needed a new radiator for about $900 and new brakes for about $600. Told me that my car was going to break down when the temperature got hotter, trying to intimidate me into spending the money. I have a warranty from buying the car about a year ago, so I took it to the dealership. The radiator cap was leaking. Spent $40 and it was fixed. The dealership said that the brakes were fine. Been two months and haven't had any issues. I don't appreciate the scare tactics to get me to spend more money. I bought this new car because it was going to be too expensive to fix my old car based on State Automotive's recommendations. I wonder how many other repairs they did or recommended that were unneeded. ALWAYS get a second opinion. I've been going here for about 2 years. They always got me in quickly and never charged me a fee for it. They were always kind and I thought they were fair.
