I have bad eyesight. I mean really bad eyesight. I also have astigmatisms in both eyes, to varying degrees. Diffrerent optometrists (I have moved a lot) have been suggesting different solutions to me for years, to the point where I have no idea what's best for me and just hope whatever the current doc recommend corrects enough for me to be able to function. Anyway, I moved to Orange County this year and had my first experience with the Grant Optometric Group this past month. I saw Dr. Kevin Grant, and I have to say it was the most thorough examination I have ever had. He went way beyond the call of duty to try out different configurations of prescription and correction for my astigmatisms. He went through combination after combination trying to optimize my vision, and was patient with me when I wasn't entirely sure what was giving a better result. At the conclusion, I was able to read the 20/20 vision line for the first time in as long as I can remember. He gave me a trial pair of contact lenses I left wearing, and that evening I was amazed at how clear my night vision was, something I always struggle with. I have also ordered glasses with them. The office staff was very helpful in assisting me with choosing a frame that flattered my face, and I appreciated the input and honesty. I am confident that I will finally have a pair of glasses I am willing to wear, and contacts that will actually allow me to see the way I am supposed to. read more

As a medical doctor myself, I can tell you that theses optometrists are considered experts in there field. They are extremely knowledgeable and take great pride on being up to date on eye health care. Dr Steven Grant has severed as President of the California State Board of Optometry and has received numerous awards and honors. His son, Dr Kevin Grant, has completed a residency in ocular disease and primary care and has given multiple presentations and is an adjunct faculty at two different Colleges of Optometry. Although I have never been seen by Dr Alderson, I am told she fits right in having received multiple awards and has further training. These doctors are also very knowledgeable regarding contacts and glasses. They have a great selection of the newest glasses and have very good prices. I made an appointment online to see Dr. Alderson. The whole process was easy and the office staff friendly. I waited a bit longer than my scheduled appointment time but once I saw the Dr. I understood why there may be a wait. She took her time with me and fully explained everything and I never felt like she wanted me in and out like so many other places do. The tests they perform are equal to what you would get with an opthomoligist and I felt like Dr. Alderson really knew what she was talking about! I recently began seeing blurry and decided to visit Grant Optometric Group because they had great reviews on yelp. They did not disappoint. The optometrist was very intelligent and also very kind. It was my first eye exam and I was a bit nervous. One of their staff members, Rory, even spent 45 minutes just helping me pick out the best frames for my glasses. He brought up many considerations I wouldn't have even though about - very patient and friendly the entire time. When my glasses arrived, they even stayed a bit late just to make sure I could pick up my glasses after closing time. Dr. Kevin Grant is amazing! I came in for a routine eye exam expecting nothing more than a doctor going through the motions. But Dr. Grant was different. He took the time to thoroughly explain everything to me, answer all of my questions, and even anticipated future issues that I should be aware of as potentially coming up in the next few years in terms of my eye health. I was unsure if I wanted to try contacts, but he put me at ease and worked with me patiently to explain everything I needed to know for making that decision. This is a family practice (the other doctor is Dr. Steven Grant, Dr. Kevin Grant's father). The office definitely felt very family oriented in the way that I saw Dr. Grant interacting with his staff. I felt very taken care of by everyone I came in contact with, and my experience made me feel like I was part of the family. I left informed and very VERY happy with my experience. I went to Grant Optometric on the recommendation of a friend. I waited a couple weeks for an appointment, which I think is very reasonable for any non-emergency medical appointment. I saw Dr. Kevin Grant, and he was very personable while maintaining a professional atmosphere and quickly running through the examination (but not rushing!). He was candid as to what he thought was worthwhile looking into but always provided me with all the options. I ended up getting a slightly stronger prescription in one eye and waited a few weeks to see how the new glasses (Dr. Grant picked out the frames as a good option, and my girlfriend agreed. best optometry office i've ever been to (and i've been to many across the awesome state of CA including in OC). was a patient of dr kevin grant for a few years and received quality care/treatment from both him and the entire office of assistants. even had one appointment with dr alderson and she was also very friendly and thorough like dr grant. many incidents stick out in my mind that make this place special, but my top three would be: 1) never a super long wait 2) newly purchased glasses were badly bent within a week and they were willing to get me a new pair at no cost even though it would have cost them (ended up not taking them up on their generous offer) 3) the nosepads for my glasses are extremely unique and can't be found on the internet. they shipped special nosepads for my eyeglasses no questions no payments to my current address in michigan the same day that i called. am sad that in all likelihood i will never live in OC again, but highly recommend this place. read more

I did not want to get LASIK or even the new SBK because of the dry eye issues, night vision problems and other complications. I also knew I did not want to wear contact lenses during the day as I did not want to bother with ill fitting lenses or contamination getting in my eyes when I work outside. My friend told me about something called CRT where you only wear lenses at night and have perfect vision all day. So I researched CRT and it seemed like a really great option for me. I looked at all the optometrists that do CRT in Southern California. I found a number of them but they had mixed reviews or no feedback at all. I was looking for a place with positive reviews and lots of CRT experience. I finally found Grant Optometric Group. Their online reviews were positive and they seemed to have lots of CRT patients. I made an appointment with Dr. Cheryl Alderson. She addressed all my concerns and questions very thoroughly and had the experience of having done lots of CRT fittings for patients. I knew I made the right choice when I found out she uses CRT lenses herself! Dr. Alderson and her support staff are very professional, well experienced with CRT, and always take the time to address all my concerns and questions. I've been on CRT for a few months now and love it. I simply wear the lenses at night and have perfect vision all day. Free of glasses, free of contacts, no concern about surgical complications. Another perk is that wearing CRT may help prevent the need for me to wear reading glasses when I get older. read more

I had a sudden issue with my right eye and called Grant on Monday morning to get in. They got me right in (without an appointment), and I saw Dr. Kevin Grant, the son of Dr. Steven Grant, my regular Opthalmologist. Kevin was very thorough in examining my eye and thought he saw a some tears in my retina, so did a number of further tests to determine what it was. He finally told me he wasn't comfortable making a diagnosis, so called a Retinologist, Dr. Desmond McGuire, in Santa Ana, to get me right in. I drove over to Dr. McGuire's office who confirmed Kevin's suspicion in 15 seconds and was able to treat the tears with a laser which he performed right there in his office. He said several times, "Great call by Dr. Grant". Kevin also called my office and sent me an email to let me know Dr. McGuire had followed up with him. had I not been treated immediately, I could have ended up with a detached retina which would have required surgery. Thank you, Kevin for your excellent diagnosis and follow up!!! read more

I have been a patient of the Grant Optometric Group for probably the last 10 years. I initially went there for glasses and eventually switched to contact lenses a few years later. I have seen Dr. Steven Grant, and on my most recent visit was seen by his son Dr. Kevin Grant. Both doctors were extremely helpful and very thorough in their examinations. They answered any questions that I had and made sure that I was very comfortable with the contact lenses that I chose. There staff was also very friendly and helpful, and I wasn't stuck in the waiting room all day waiting to see the doctor. On my last visit, Dr. Kevin Grant performed a very thorough eye examination and was very good at explaining what each test was for, and what he was seeing. Thankfully my vision hadn't changed and there were no problems, but it's always nice to have a doctor that lets you know exactly whats going on and speaks in medical language that you can understand. I would definitely recommend the Grant Optometric Group to anyone that was looking for a great place to get contacts or glasses, or just a check up. My father came here to get his safety eye wear done because it was one of the locations listed on the website. I should have sent him elsewhere, because when he returned he said he was disappointed at the poor service that was given to him by one of the staff members. Not only did she initially only present him with one frame (the ugliest one there), she said that it was the only one that was covered under the plan. (Are u kidding me? must be laziness) My Dad was baffled because when he looked online with me, there were other options that were available. Only after, when he said that he was going to go elsewhere did the girl bring out more options for him to choose from. Upon hearing this, I am regretful that I sent him to this place to get his eye wear done. I should have done more research to find a place that would have treated him better despite his language barrier and to a place where he doesn't feel taken advantage of. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how the glasses will turn out. Can't really comment upon the doctors because he came in with a prescription in hand, so there was no need to see one. Staff needs to do better. When I call the office to, they seem like they want to get u off the phone as soon as possible. read more
