Everything comes from a can, dumped in a pot and heated up for you just like Granny did back in the day, or its frozen and heated up for you to enjoy a fake homemade meal, same way with the chicken, frozen a flashed fried. The salad bar always has brown lettuce and unripe fruit on it, then to beat it all, they'll charge you at the register for just eating there, I would think twice about stopping here. Lemme see... the salad was horrible according to my Wife, the Green Beans were tasteless and so over-cooked that they mashed easily under my fork! (my Wife telling me to quit playing with my food). Fish was was overcooked and reminiscent of a hockey puck. The fried chicken was void of any flavor.. seriously? How do you screw up fried chicken? An unexpected surprise - and I don't mean the food. I mean the bout of gastrointestinal issues I suffered after eating here. When you drive into Cherokee, North Carolina, you notice that there are not a lot of places to eat. Sure, there's the usual fast food places such as Arby's, Burger King and Wendy's, but not a lot of 'local' or mom-and-pop diners. So along the road coming in, there is this place called 'Granny's Kitchen' (on the building) or 'Granny's Restaurant' (on the sign). When I first walked in, I was seated by a young lady who was maybe all of 14 years old. I figured this to be a family owned place, so no big surprise there. I was seated, by myself, at a table for eight. I noted that several solo individuals, as well as couples, were also seated at very large tables. This place is apparently ONLY a buffet. What's sad is that the dining room is quite large but the buffet is extraordinarily small. There is a very, very limited selection to choose from. This is NOT your granny's Golden Corral (or even a Ryan's). Half was dedicated to the salad bar and the other half had maybe a half dozen or a so 'hot' items. Compliments: 1) the tea was actually very good. 2) the salad bar was also very good, though I suspect that the potato salad is not homemade. 3)I will say the staff is friendly (though the guy carving the roast beef looked and sounded bored out of his mind). Complaints: 1) The first FOUR plates I picked up were dirty. They had food stuck to them still. Customers should not have to man-handle every dish just to find a clean plate. 2) The soup 'cauldron' had no lid. It was just sitting out, exposed with no cover. Never, ever eat soup from such a setup. 3) The fried chicken is so flavorless and dry. Deep fried cardboard would taste better. No seasoning. Just flour it seems. I had to pour salt on it just to taste anything. 4) The ham with pineapple had so much glaze in it, that it was almost a soup. There was literally more glaze than ham or pineapple. 5) I never thought creamed corn could be messed up. This place has apparently been trying to perfect messing it up. 6) The first set of silverware was dirty. Just like the plates. Fortunately, there were SEVEN other place settings for me to eventually pull a clean fork from. I won't even go there with the knife. 7) The price for this "meal" was outrageous. Approximately $13 (with tax). Golden Corral, which has about twenty times the items and tastes better (sometimes) is about 25-30% less. 8) Did I mention I got sick after eating there? I hadn't eaten anything in more than a day - having spent most of that time driving and having also neglected to bring anything to eat with me. So, I was rather surprised when I got sick less than an hour after eating there. Fortunately, it passed rather quickly (no pun intended). Do yourself a favor and don't ruin your trip. Visit one of the name-brand roadside food factories or another diner... say, in Asheville. read more

We stopped in Cherokee, NC for lunch and saw this place. We enjoy trying local places instead of chain restaurants. Granny's is a cute place for buffet across from Harrah's Casino. They only have buffet, so if you don't all want buffet, go somewhere else. The buffet had some good choices. Salad Bar with some extra macaroni salads. The hot part of the bar consisted of Turkey, dressing, carrots, beans, biscuits, etc. They also had Roast with Potatos and Carrots. Lots of seating and friendly staff. Our drinks were filled continually which was great. Easy to get into, however, getting out, we had to wait for traffic for a bit. Overall, it's a good place to get a hot meal, but almost typical of buffets near a casino. If we are down there again, we would consider going back. read more

If you like buffet, this is the place for you! Each day has a featured type meal. There is a good variety of items for salads. There is the usual green beans, creamed corn, corn bread or biscuits, cooked cabbage, and vegetables that go with the meat of the day. Be sure to leave a tip for the wait staff person who provides your beverages and refills. Locals eat here which is a good sign. Granny's Kitchen has been around a long time. Granny's is a country down home buffet. It had great pot roast that you can tell was home made and was delicious. The beef was melt in your mouth while the vegetable were cooked just right. The star of the show to me was definitely the fried chicken. Fried perfectly to a golden crisp. Juicy with a flavorful skin you can't ask for much more. I paired that with some hot sauce and was in heaven. For what Granny's carries they have great quality in their meal. The only thing keeping this rating from a 5/5 is I was hoping for more of a selection. You basically only have 3 meats to choose from and sides. Typical southern country cooking, buffet. If you like that, this is your spot! Salad bar, pudding, green beans, boiled potatoes, field peas, fried chicken, BBQ ribs, hand carved roast beef. Rolls and corn bread. Hit the spot after a day of driving and sightseeing, but not that great to warrant another visit during our stay. Server was attentive with drink refills. Do not come hungry or cold - you'll starve and freeze. Sorry but COVID is not an excuse to only have a couple of meats and veggies (and only one dessert choice) for what you pay... oh, and tea is not included. No mashed potatoes or rice and gravy, only cold round unseasoned small white potatoes and fake canned corn. Small portions when they serve you - and ...
