Rueben during our December 2024 visit.

The food here is always fantastic, but the service on most visits has been underwhelming. We had great server once or twice, but in our other experiences we've found it to be on the slow side. The cafe is large. The lobby area has a bakery case and a hostess stand. You'll want to get reservations on the weekend if you're wanting to eat before the breakfast buffet ends. I tried the buffet the first time a couple years ago. It's good. Especially since you can also order their delicious rye bread that is made fresh!!! The last few visits we didn't make it down before noon, so JD has been getting his Reuben sandwich that he loves. And I stick with all day breakfast and get the omelet and rye toast. The sore spot has been slow service. This last visit the place was practically empty, and we were sat by the windows. It was over 5-10 minutes before we even were greeted. The guy was great and nice, but all of the servers seem to disappear to the back and forget about us on the floor. Last year the server took my ID and card and didn't return it. She was back on the floor, but didn't have my cards. We finally flagged her down, she couldn't find my cards! She gave my ID and card to someone else to run, then it gets placed back into a box or shelf or something. Mine wasn't put back to the right server, so it was over 30 minutes for them to finally find my ID.... It was so nerve wracking!! You cannot be in a casino without your ID. This trip when JD paid they just asked to see his ID at the table and didn't take it with them. Thank goodness. Until recently this was the only sit down restaurant in the casino for breakfast. There is a coffee spot in the food court that has some breakfast items. Now Guy's restaurant is serving brunch on Saturday and Sunday's. But the rye toast is enough reason to keep coming back to Selu. It's really that delicious!!!

Absolutely phenomenal…read more No wonder they were rated one of the top restaurants in the southeast, and that's not just for breakfast places. This place does everything right! If anyone reading this wants to open a restaurant, I would highly recommend studying this place. Let's get to the good stuff. I was told I would have a 30-minute wait, and that's just for one--I always travel solo on a poker trip. Well ... almost any trip. Anyway, I explored the grounds and I found a large lawn, a creek, a bridge over that creek, a fake mill (I think it was fake), and three little birds (they were not at my doorstep). After this pleasant exploration that brought great peace and even the idea of moving to Maggie Valley to be closer to poker (and a pancake house), I was called in. The super friendly lady that checked me in told me it would be worth the wait. She was not wrong. So, check this out. Two big pancakes, perfectly cooked dry scrambled eggs as I ordered them, and the best bacon I have ever tasted was a total of around $15 before tax. That's a pretty good deal, especially for one of the best breakfast experiences of your life. My waitress was also superb. I won't mention a name because now that I stopped writing books and this is my writing outlet, some have jumped over and each Google review is getting 10k-100k views (not talking about photos, actual reviews). And then people speculate. I'm going to avoid all that drama. I might have made one mistake with my meal, but it depends how you view it. I went with the super healthy syrup. It's not called Super Healthy Syrup, but that's how I viewed it. I'm a gym rat and I don't eat heavy at all but I sure don't like boring. The pancakes themselves were excellent but I chose the wrong syrup. Now I know to go with the chemically-enhanced version. It's the rebel in me. Gotta do it. Last thing: atmosphere is amazing. Everything is spotless and perfectly spaced. Just so you know, you pay at the front. Extremely Highly Recommended! To have Joey's Pancake House and Frankie's Italian Trattoria right down the street from each other is something.

I got the coconut refresher, not too sweet and still had caffeine. They have topo Chico, my favorite sparkling water, so they got bonus points for that. They have a pastry window(?) that had a decadent looking, huge, slice of blueberry coffee cake and a cheesecake I would have tried if I was in the mood for sweets. I saw a couple enjoying it and letting the staff know the coffee was delicious. The tables are spacious, there were only around 6 people when I went and the atmosphere made it easy to ignore the other people and write this. But other "strangers" began conversations so it is still inviting. The music is acoustical versions of modern songs. I saw a staff cleaning the counters around the place while I ate so they definitely keep it clean. The gentleman who took my order was friendly and not overbearing. Overall perfect place to sit and read on my break from a gloomy day. Only note would be that I wanted my food for here and they made it to go.

Poor service, poor food quality. Not impressed at all…read more Ambience is nice, very spacious, newly built, restaurant. Friendly staff. Not very attentive at all. Say for 15 minutes before the manager had to obtain a server for our table. After the food was delivered, the server did not provide adequate service. I requested a water refill, which took an additional 15 minutes, because she continually forgot. Food quality wasn't the greatest. They served chicken, which consisted of 2 thighs and 2 drumsticks. Along with friend catfish filets, that had been way over salted. Both were very soggy. I ate half the thigh and quit. Veggies? Only vegetables were Lima beans, everything else considered vegetables, was a casserole. A table full of starches. Over rated and over priced. Sadly disappointed. If you want good southern food, go further south to Thomasville, GA. Go to O'Neals. You can fool some folks, but not someone that knows southern cooking. We won't return.

The new Temu version sucks. So incredibly devastated and disappointed!! You should probably change…read morethe name along with all the other changes because this is NOT the Dillard House. As a local, I have gone to the Dillard House my whole life and it has always been one of my most treasured spots but sadly it will never be the same again. I visited for the first time since bought out by some Atlanta conglomerate called Legacy Ventures and boy did they just take the character and soul completely out of this place to make a buck. All of my childhood memories and the charm of the south, replaced with some generic millennial grey design bullshit and shitty recipes. Was the old place fancy and swanky? Absolutely not, but here in the country we like our charm like grandma's tried and true biscuit recipe: Not pretty but dang does it taste good. Thank God they kept the family style menu, but boy was the food NOTHING to write home about. I can't say that anything tasted as good as it used to. It was all cold and overcooked and certainly not prepared by someone from the south that knows what they're doing. The cured salty country ham that made your mouth water...bland and uncured. Missing some of the best staples the menu offered. Completely ripped out the country store and gift shop. I didn't want to believe the other locals when they told me what had happened, but now that I've experienced it, I'm not sure I can continue to support this place. They have replaced the kids from Rabun Gap that always worked there with people who are clearly not familiar with the place nor how to show Southern hospitality. I always admired the fact that they gave jobs to kids to learn how to serve the community and make a little money. Every kid should have that experience for character growth. I thought for sure I'd be able to bring my children here one day to experience the same nostalgia that is seared into my mind and heart, but sadly that will never happen now. Can we PLEASE stop selling out our cherished local spots to people who clearly don't know anything about the area or care to honor it? Let's keep the country the country and you city folk can do whatever you want there. It's also very clear that nothing is being done to improve these conditions with the onslaught of negative reviews from lifelong customers online. You may fool new customers that don't know what they're missing, but the lack of traffic on a Sunday proves the point that you aren't making changes to "honor the past experience and care about the feedback." Word of mouth travels fast.
