It was clean and the salad I made myself was good. That's about all the positives. When you walk in the hostess are not friendly. They just stared at each guest group and said the number of how many they thought was in your party. So smile, hello, or welcome. The food is good here but if you are looking for a relaxing place to eat this is not it...upon entering the restaurant they take your temp and spray your hands with sanitizer. Then you can only walk in the direction of the arrows, and you have to sanitize every time you go to the bar. Your not even touching anything. How does this place have so many good reviews?! It truly baffles me. The absolute worst meal of my trip cost me $18.00 for the dinner buffet, tea, tax, and tip. The vegetables tasted canned, the turkey and dressing were extremely dry, the salad bar had seen much better days, and the buffet dessert option was instant butterscotch pudding. Picture this- you've been in a damn car for 4 hours straight, winding down through cold, rainy, foggy, dreary mountains. Felt like we had spent all weekend in the car. The Yelp Gods pointed me toward a place called "Granny's Kitchen". The name and location did not inspire high hopes. Immediately upon walking in, however, I realized my dreams had come true. There's a huge buffet filled with comfort food. Beans, salad, soup, catfish, rolls, ham, okra, just to name a few items. There's even a guy on the end of the bar cutting succulent, juicy roast beef. I ate until I just couldn't eat anymore. It was $12 per person!!! Could you ask for anything better? The only negatives here were the Pepsi products and that they didn't have heat. It was just as cold inside as outside. Don't even care. The food, the staff were wonderful. I read the glowing reviews and, admittedly, there are some not-so-glowing reviews, but someone personally recommended Granny's and we decided to give it a try. The service was very good, the food was awful. One positive: the place is clean. We approached the buffet first for salads. The lettuce was fresh and there were some nice choices for add-ons: coleslaw, a pasta salad, some really good bread and butter pickles. The bacon bits are soy and fake, dressing choices are limited to Ranch, French, and Thousand Island. The coleslaw was ok but the pasta salad lacked seasoning. For the dinner selections we were offered ribs, fried chicken, beef, green beans, field peas, stewed apples, red potatoes, cornbread, and rolls. My first complaint is that all the food lacked seasoning. The fried chicken was dry, the ribs were mushy, the beef stringy. The green beans and peas were mushy and tasteless. The cornbread was not remotely close to actual cornbread. How can you mess up cornbread? The potatoes were over-cooked, but the stewed apples were ok. We went to Cherokee specifically for the casino since my wife had never been to one. Of course, we did the mandatory casino buffet one night. The food was substandard, to say the least. Fortunately, neither of us enjoyed gambling all that much so we spent the rest of the weekend exploring the area and meeting locals. Generally, I talk to people who live in an area to find the best spots to go and the best value for our money. While in a Family Dollar, I asked the cashiers where we should have Sunday dinner. After naming a couple of places, one of them exclaimed "How could I forget Granny's?" This led to a five minute rave session from cashiers and customers alike about Granny's. When we arrived, the after church rush hadn't begun, so we were seated quickly. The hostess was quite cordial, albeit a bit 80's. The first place I went was the bathroom. It was small, but clean. Always, a good sign. Now to the food. The buffet was small, but the food was fresh and well stocked. The salad bar was typical. Neither of us cared for the potato salad, but everything else was tasty. The hot food bar, had fried chicken, roast beef, fried and baked fish, mashed potatoes, fried corn, biscuits, cornbread, rice, turnips. Between the two of us, we sampled everything. Located five minutes from the Harruh's casino, Granny's Kitchen beats eating in the casino's expensive buffet. You'll find all of the breakfast staples here - bacon, scrambled eggs, grits, french toast sticks, etc. I was surprised and glad they also had a fresh fruit bar. We had to wait 10 minutes to pay because they were changing shifts. We needed to get on the road and there was no sense of urgency at all. Digestive issues aside, the minimal "buffet" was a pretty ok salad bar, flavorless fried chicken, over cooked green beans, burnt cream corn -(yes, you CAN screw that up) dry roast beef, over-glazed dried-out ham and under-roasted potatoes. I am rating the breakfast buffet only. My husband and I ate there this morning for the breakfast buffet. I think they did an amazing job with Covid restrictions. You have one hour to eat and they sanitize your hands before you go in. They also encourage you to sanitize your hands each time you go up to the buffet and someone else serves you. Also they check your temperature before you go in. So I thought that was really good. Now to the food.... it tasted fine while we were there but it is definitely not home-cooked. I think the eggs would've been the only thing that were actually home-cooked. The bacon, sausage, grits, french toast, biscuits and gravy all were obviously something that were frozen and they just reheated. I think the gravy might even be the same type of gravy they serve for dinner because it tasted really like mashed potatoes. Anyway things tasted OK while we were there but it was definitely something I could've just made for myself at home. We were looking for something homemade and this definitely wasn't it. Phoned ahead to check timings as menu has a dish or two more for dinner (from 4pm), but arrived early...fortunately the dinner menu was already on offer. Restaurant was quiet but food was good. Had enough choice to please my fussy daughters. Local people as well as tourists like ourselves ate here. Jessica's service was excellent. This place was super busy at lunch time, so we rolled in expecting a special treat. We walked in an saw an unspectacular buffet, but my parents were juiced so I went with it. Although all the food was colorless, brown fried chicken, super dried looking BBQ, and SB steak. The chicken and the steak were ok, and the potatoes were good. The salad was ok, I haven't had the imitation red bacon bits since the 90's. Everything was mediocre, and it was priced as such (lunch was 8.50). The thing is, I got very sick after eating here. It has been 5 days and I am still functioning, but really sick to my stomach. I have a stomach that is like a steal trap, and I have not had a stomach issue in years. I read the other reviews last night and forgot about them when dining here tonight. If you go here expecting a 3 course 5 star meal with the royal family, then you will be disappointed.
