This spot was worth driving out of Cherokee (where we were staying) for dinner. The staff and our server were very kind and quick. The restaurant is very cute and rustic, giving a nice classy feel. We got the French onion soup and fried mushrooms. The soup was a solid classic and the mushrooms were crispy on the outside and juicy and soft on the inside. I don't think that the boots sauce was the right combo with the mushrooms, only because even a small amount of the sauce overpowered all of the flavor. We split the country fried steak with a loaded baked potato and the creamed spinach. All three things were absolutely excellent and tasted home cooked. We got an Apple baked crisp with ice cream on it for dessert. It was baked to order, but was a little too overpowering with the cinnamon. This is an unapologetic steakhouse in the best way possible. Ambience is old school steakhouse in an old charming house(?). Service was amazing- thanks to our sever Lacey. We both had a couple of Southern Old Fashioned's that were great but I gotta tell ya' that ribeye steak is out of this world. Simply prepared to let the quality of the meat shine through. Massive cut/ took at least half of it home with me along with half of the baked fully loaded backed potato. Not cheap, but the value of the meal is absolutely there. What a pleasant surprise on our journey home from a soccer tournament. Stopped by for dinner and we were all thoroughly impressed with our meals! It's a really cute place in a nice quaint area. I got pecan crusted trout- delicious! Hubby got French onion soup- the real deal! Daughter got the shrimp and grits- legit! And grandson the boots burger- it was huge! Read somewhere that Boots is "The best steakhouse in NC" and I would be hard pressed to disagree. Let's start with the staff. So friendly and attentive! The host made her way around to chat with each table which made us, first time here, feel right at home. I can't speak to the indoor seating as we had our pups with us so we sat outside. Comfortable, clean, and spacious. My steak was absolutely perfect! Cooked to temp, good amount of S&P. The standout for me here was the potato skins. Sliced like steak fries and heaps of toppings. We arrived at the restaurant a half hour before our reservation at 7:30 PM. I was grilled over and over by the hostess on whether or not I had actually placed a reservation. And what was my code. I kindly told her we had a reservation for 730 and that we were early. The hostess said yeah but what's your code word? We told her what our code word was and then she proceeded to make me prove that she called me or that someone called me. It was the hostess that called me. I spoken to her on the phone before on previous reservations, and I recognized her voice. She asked me to pull up the phone call to prove that I did receive a call. I've never had this happen anywhere in any restaurant. I showed her where she had called me the previous Tuesday to make the reservation. She dismissed me and said that she would get back to us. We sat on a church pew outside of the restaurant for about an hour. She came over to us and asked us to sit at a table outside. This was fine with me because I had suggested the table when we got there which was empty, but not cleaned. When we were seated, the table was not washed off and she sat us there anyway. She told us that it would be about 15 minutes and that she would bring us some bread. It was 8 PM by this time and she forgot to bring the bread. After about 10 minutes, she came back and brought bread. She said that ordering was going to be about a half an hour. I looked at my husband and I was ready to leave. She is very rude. About 10 minutes later, the waiter came out and asked us what we would like to drink. He was very kind and apologized for our wait. We put in an appetizer and our dinner order at the same time. The appetizer came out about 20 minutes later which was green fried tomatoes. They were soaking in grease and were cold. We waited and waited for our dinner to come. I looked at my husband and I said it's been an hour since our reservation. He just rolled his eyes and said we might as well wait we've been here this long. Well, the rain started, and we were on the end of the Porch. My feet were getting wet. I'm now getting the back of my hair soaked, so I got up and went inside and found our waiter. I asked to be moved inside. I watched this rude hostess move everyone inside that was out underneath umbrellas. She never came to our table. She never even considered that we were getting wet. Instead, she kept taking more people into the restaurant and ignoring the fact that we had been there now for more than an hour waiting on our food. The waiter came and got us and put us inside at a table in the corner. We waited for another half hour on our food. I noticed that the table next to us was a family of four and their table had only gotten bread as well. I asked them how long they had been waiting "an hour and 20 minutes we are here." and she rolled her eyes. Everybody still had no food on their tables. I think another 15 or 20 minutes went by and finally, they brought out the other tables food one plate at a time. One person was eating and three other people were sitting there watching them eat. Then another plate came a few minutes later and so on. I felt so bad for them. The table on the other side of them had not gotten their food. About 15 to 20 minutes later our food came out. My husband ordered a well done filet mignon with a baked potato and a salad. I ordered a medium rare filet mignon and a baked potato with mixed vegetables. My husband's steak was red on the inside close to medium rare as you could get it. Mine came out raw. My plate was running with blood. The baked potato had way too much cheese and the vegetables were so mushy. You couldn't pick them up with a fork. I took two bites of my steak and was unable to eat it. It tasted like liver. It smelled really bad. This comes from old meat. The liver taste is a bad sign that the meat was old. I could not eat anymore of my food. I asked them to box it up and the longer I thought about it I didn't wanna take it home because I was feeling sick at that point. We left all the food on the table paid our bill tipped our waiter $20 and left the food on the table. About five minutes into my ride home which was a 25 minute ride I started vomiting! I was excited to have a nice dinner, but the browbeating and trying to prove I had a reservation ruined the evening. This establishment has many bad reviews regarding this hostess and her attitude towards their guests. Our bill was over $100. I got home and I called the restaurant and the hostess answered the phone. I recognized her voice. Her name is Claudette. She told me that if they got any more calls regarding their meat tonight that she would know that there was bad meat being served. No apology no reconciliation just thank you for calling. I was going to ask her could I please have a call from the owner or the manager of the establishment and she hung up on me! That was the ultimate slap in the face. read more

Went to Boots for our anniversary and it was a FABULOUS experience from start to finish! Our waiter Mason was friendly and on top of our service! The fried mushroom appetizer came out fresh and the dipping sauce was amazing! I had the Oscar Filet and it was cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the ribeye and he said his was delicious and cooked perfectly as well! We also ordered the red velvet cheesecake and while waiting for it to come out we had a moment to speak with one of the owners Colleen- She was an absolute peach, what a darling and just as nice as she could be! Loved this restaurant! We went for a Friday night dinner with a dog. We didn't have a reservation. We were seated at a nice outdoor table. The wait staff which included te host were attentive and kind. The food was delicious, the filet was cooked med rare perfectly, served nice and hot and the pesto pasta side was good also (could have used some lemon for tang). The salad was amazing as well-- no iceberg but mixed spring greens with cukes and grape tomatoes that were fresh. Even te bread and butter was delicious. I honestly was expected to be underwhelmed but it is more like a hidden gem. I understand it is under new mgmt. The inside of the restaurant is uniquely designed and interesting. I will drive 30 minutes to eat hee again vs go to the steak house on my main street (which is also not a chain). We didn't get dessert or look over the dessert menu. What an amazing couple of meals I had here! This is my grandparents favorite restaurant in the area and so we visited twice during our stay. To start, we got the fried Brussels sprouts that were deliciously seasoned. The collard dip was unique, warm and tasty. For dinner, I had the chicken Marsala special which came with green beans and a goat cheese risotto. Wowza!!!!! The second night, I had the filet mignon with a Caesar salad and baked potato. Went there on a Friday evening, was an awesome evening with perfect weather (they have indoor and outdoor seating). It's a cool location among other restaurants, bars, craft stores and what not. The service was impeccable, we had a lively and outgoing server who we really enjoyed. My partner got the special which was steak with a mushroom sauce, mashed potatoes, brocoli with herbs and garlic and olive oil. I got the ribeye with asparagus. Both dishes were excellent, as were our side caesar salads (homemade dressing). My only 'complaint' would be the amount of asparagus was very little, let alone for a premium side that costs more to order. The steaks were excellently seasoned. We will absolutely come back! I've never seen a restaurant make itself so hard to like. Boots has the best steaks in the area, decent atmosphere, and generally friendly service. So imagine my surprise, after spending $130 on dinner for two (not including tip), to get nickel-dimed $.50 each for two Styrofoam containers to take our desserts to go. This, at a restaurant with $45 steaks. On a previous visit, we ate dinner and I ordered an after-dinner drink. As my wife and I often do, we had brought books and were reading for perhaps 5 minutes while I finished coffee and my drink, when the hostess informed us in no uncertain terms that reading was forbidden and that they needed our table. I might understand if had we dallied for hours, but at that point, we had been at the restaurant for and finished dinner in 45 minutes. Come on, guys. Management refused to resolve the entree Decor of restaurant was from the late 60's or early 70's. Menu lacked any originality. We went during parents weekend at WCU and they were slammed. The service took longer than we would have liked, but we will be back when it's not so busy. My wife got the filet mignon and it was fork tender! The trout was good, but wished that it would have a better crust, it was a bit soggy and I suspect that was driven by how busy they were.
